Everything we got was delicious! We tried 2 orders of the appetizer clam cakes - cooked perfectly and seasoned and salted perfectly also. She got the clam chowder was thick and fresh. For the kids - the boy got the kids meal burger and it was TREMENDOUS. It would have filled me up and I am not a small guy. The girl got the chicken tenders and they were more like cutlets. There were four huge cutlets each the size you would see as a main chicken course at a restaurant. She had one that night and the other 3 we were able to use the next day, EACH for chicken sandwiches. Us - we both got the gyro sandwich. Risky at a place like this, huh? One of the absolute best gyros I have ever had. Each of our meals came with sides of french fries and to say each was a generous portion would be a HUGE understatement. Between the four of us, collectively, we must have had approx two of those frozen bags of french fries that you get in the grocery store. The kids got juice, my wife a beer, and I got a soda. The WHOLE meal (2 appetizers, 2 kids meals, 2 adult entrees/sandwiches, 3 drinks, and 1 beer) came to $35.
This place is awesome. OH, and they are SUPER friendly there. -

After seeing the reviews, I have to say, I was pleasantly suprised that there was the possibility of a good restaurant being in this very desolate area of CT. Don't get me wrong, Plainfield is very beautiful. Long, windy roads, it has it's appeal. I just wouldn't picture it being a place where you'd find a culinary gem.
And I was right, it's not. I'm not sure what the other reviewers found so great in Gus's, except maybe that it's the only game in town (quite literally) so it SEEMS really good.
My waitress was very pleasant. The feel is one of a typical sports bar. It was fairly empty on a Thursday night when I was there, just a couple regulars watching the UCONN game.
Got a burger, it was very obviously of the frozen patty variety. Fries were pretty bad, same thing, straight out of the freezer and into the deep frier. Side Caesar salad was okay.
I'll be trying something else if I'm ever in Plainfield again. -

Ordinary restaurant with ordinary food. I kept my order ordinary: Grilled cheese and fries and beer.
A family at a nearby table ordered pizza and it came out on a silver platform. It looked crazy good.
The waitress asked a customer how his dish was and he said, "Hot!" I had to laugh to myself when she asked, "You want me to blow on it?!"
Service was excellent. I doubt I'll return, but if I do I'll try that pizza. -

Get something off the specials menu, they change daily. My personal favorites go as follows: Meat loaf dinner, Chicken Parm dinner, Baked Scrod, and Gus's super special pizza. For lunch I may get a Tuna Club (best tuna in CT) or a reuben sandwich. Great food, can't beat the price, a hometown staple!!

One word: YUM! In my Plainfield years I don't think I ever had a bad meal here. Doesn't matter if it's pizza, a sub or their amazing chicken parm.....you can not go wrong at Gus's period.

I had the Lasagna and a few Fish Dog Head 60 minute beers. McKenzie was great as a server. But the food. The food was top notch. I've never had a lasagna of that tremendous proportion nor that great. That plate was as big as my head, and I've got a pretty big dome.. I will def come back if I am ever up here again.
