    Ehhhh...

I'm reviewing this based on a "night-life" perspective.  I've never come here during the day, which it seems like it'd be great because there's probably horse racing and the shops are all open, etc etc.  With that said, in terms of a night life: ehhhhhhhhhhh....

There are some pubs and restaurants that are good but there isn't that much to offer.  I'd probably give it another star if I thought the casino was any better but it's not that great at all... just a few slot machines and that's all it looked like to me.  I wish there were clubs and  more restaurants.  I felt like everything closed so early or was dead.  Hopefully, it is still in development because it could potentially be awesome.

My ex's family is a longgg line of jockey's and he loves horse racing so taking me here and introducing me to his world was a must. I love the track and I loved watching the races and betting on the horses! The horse I originally picked would have actually gotten me $60 if I didnt change my mind and wasn't so attracted to the pink the horse was wearing lol. Not only the track is nice, but there are shops, restaurants, and even clubs here. I came here for Christams with some girlfriends last year and they had a huge Christmas tree filled with lights and had a light show with music! It was very cute :) Gulfstream is a must! :)

So you roll shopping, dining, gambling, live horse racing, and nightclubbing all into one beautiful elegant establishment, I'm in!!

I went in the afternoon for April Derby Day, Sunday.  A beautiful April Sunday afternoon with nary a cloud in the blue sky.  Park anywhere you can since derby racing is a big event.  There are shuttles, valet, and VIP parking.

All of the buildings and streets are brand spanking new.  Perfectly manicured lawns, fresh paved streets, not a single bit of trash anywhere.  But, the place was packed!  There were people from all walks of life.  You'll see the persistent gamblers, the young ones running around looking at the horses, the older ones just enjoying the day.  Then there are the ladies with the big hats.  Yup!  They are here.  Fantastic.  Guys, you ever wonder where people wear those navy blue jackets with the gold buttons and white pants, well... now you know.

On this day, they were serving beers, champagne, mimosas, shrimp cocktails and even fresh shucked oysters and clams.  Classy.  There was even a free tasting table with some type of raspberry mojito that was too sweet and too red for me to walk around with.  Alas, they did have a scotch whiskey sampler... more my style.  Note:  Bud and bud lights were $5.00, but I skipped those and walked 30 seconds over to Yardhouse for a $5.00 pint of Kona Firerock (no to-go cups, so I grabbed one from one of the outside vendors).

So you walk out to the horsetrack.  Absolutely beautiful!  People walking around scribbling notes and making bets.  VIP's have stadium seating above.  A buffet restaurant is at the very top overlooking the entire track.  I walk around and there is a section where the horses actually walk from the stables onto the track.  Talk about getting up close!  One jockey was pleasant enough to offer some horse candy to several little girls so that they could feed the horse (this was after the race of course!).  These creatures are absolutely gorgeous.  Basically the top athletes (the horses) in a professional sport.

The actual races are fast and are about 30 minutes apart.  The action gets pretty intense when the horses are 1/8 mile to the finish line.  Nothing like watching a well dressed woman jumping up out of her chair to yell and cheer for her horse!  There is definitely excitement in the air.

So there are also 2 separate small casinos (relative to say, Hard Rock).  I played a few games, made enough money to cover my drinks for the day, and headed home.  This is definitely a must do at least once!

I love watching horse races!!! I like to bet little bits and usually walking away with something.

I've been here several times, i was in one of the corporate boxes to watch the races which was brilliant and the rooms were modern in decor.

Another time I came here with my family to the Ten Palms restaurant. It was on a Saturday for an all you can eat seafood buffet. Yep... crab!

And i bet on a few horses and spread my bets around, made the money to pay for dinner and a few extra bucks.

The buffet wasn't super huge, but it was quality.

The casino's are okay. No roulette, but that's a Florida law thing! Without roulette, casinos are boring, but my mom likes the nickel slots.

But the place is HUGE, and now they've finished the Village, its pretty grand. Definitely worth a visit if you've never been!

    Man I love this place.

I loved it about 5 years ago when they had the concerts on the "lawn" out front. Where I saw Pat Benatar, Cheap Trick, Chicago, etc. .....all for $5 admission and free for kids. Back then it was just a plain ole racetrack with a big lawn in front, I guess I would have never taken the kids only that they had the concerts.

Well, now they have had a huge overhaul, a big facelift and a HUGE injection of money...and now Gulfstream is reborn, from a mere racetrack to a destination for the whole family. Today I had a chance to walk through the casino and man that place was PACKED!!!!

Today, myself and my kids and hubby and a good friend SySy had a BLAST. Arrived about 2p.m. Myself and the kids walked around the new stores and restaurant areas and the guys went to the paddock to view the geegee's before the 2:30 race to check the form. The guys went off to do their horsey thing, we went off to check out some pizza and sodas for the kids and then I see it...the sneakly little sign on the snack bar counter...$1.00 beers.....yay beer!!. I was thirsty......$3 for a soda or $2 for two beers....guess which I chose!!

Picked us a spot on the lounge chairs at the south Tiki bar for the afternoon. Just a couple of lengths from the finish line, close to the restrooms, lots of space for the kids to run around without bothering the real players. Set up camp for the afternoon. The eldest son sprawled himself one one of the circular lounge beds and slept a while sunning himself. The youngest guy ran around with other kids, diggin in the sand and having pillow fights in a quiet corner.

Ah, we'll only stay for a few races we said. But the day flew in...we were joined by a couple of yelpers and the beers flew in and down and the fun was going, the horses were running well but not in our favor but who cared!! The sun was shining, the beers were cheap, the people watching was stellar and today was a day when it was reinforced for us the reason we live in South Florida.

Its a great way to spend a sunny afternoon away from the beaches, stores and clubs......yet, Gulfstream has all of that now :)

Last weekend  hubby and I came here because we wanted to eat at Ten Palms. It was around two o'clock in the afternoon, and they were not open yet. So we strolled into the casino, only gambled for about an hour. Yes, you loose it quickly. Never being a big gambler, worked in the casino's in Reno, NV and saw how much money people would loose. Not me, I would rather spend it on eating!!! lol

Really like what they are doing buidling a strip center for shops and restaurants. Very nice, looking forward to see what goes in.
The casino is filled with a much older clientele and tight machines.
I was hoping to catch a show with the horses by the fountain with the dancing water but did not get lucky.
If you have never seen it, it is great. The horses are excellent performers.

I have never bet on horses, but it looks like it could be fun. They really need to get some more dining soon. We left because there was no place to eat.

I do not consider myself a big time gambler and that is probably a good thing since my extreme competitive nature would lead me to bankruptcy! I do though enjoy an occasional day at the races and Gulfstream is the best place in town ever since Hialeah closed down.  If you haven't tried it out, I highly recommend.
Go there with a modest budget to gamble, pick horses however you think will work for you and you never know... you might actually walk out a winner!!  It is also a great place to people watch as you will see someone from every category known to man.  Overall, a great place to spend a day

The casino is not as elegant as the Hardrock and the not as large as the Miccosukee but it's located right in the middle of the city only minutes from Aventura Mall. Like any other Casino in South Florida, they bring buses of South Florida retirees and they line up to cash in their free coupons.

There are currently two large restaurants that overlook the Gulfstream Park Track where you can eat and wager on thoroughbred racing. There is Christine Lees and Ten Palms. There is living racing January to April, check their website for exact dates and times.

In February 2009, The Village at Gulfstream Park has plans to open a 466,000 square foot  center that is adjacent to the race track and casino. There are retail shops, restaurants and entertainment facilities.

I went there on a Sunday evening during the non-racing season and it felt much more like a retirement community then the youthful Hardrock Casino area. We dined at Christine Lees and the piano player was playing to that audience...but I did like the food at Christine Lees and the view of the racetrack is unmatched.

There is free self-parking and valet parking for $5.

Thoroughbred Horse Racing.  Casinos, Poker, Bars
Yummy Spots to grab a bite and the Delicious Christine Lees.
Look at their website for Evening Concerts, and live music/other fun events.
They are also constructing another shopping area and condos.
Great place for a group outing or date.
