So Im in Bradenton visiting the grandparents and we always make it a point to visit the 'Beach Cafe'.

It is a quaint little restaurant with apparent big plans to expand.

The outside porch is nice...if you dont mind the wretched humidity or the small of cancer smoke from the patrons cigarettes. We initially sat down outside but soon moved inside as Im a wimp and cant breathe in either situation.

For a beach cafe, the prices for some things are a little high in my opinion so you are definitely are paying for the atmosphere.

As far as the food, Ive have the open face roast beef sammy a few times which is fat girl loveliness.

Last night the grandmother and I shared a Caesar salad that we requested to be topped with blackened shrimp. As far as the quality, the dressing was quite good. I prefer flaked or even shredded Parmesan over the cheap kind that comes in green can but it wasnt too bad. As far as the shrimp, it was nice and tender but when it came out, it was most certainly not blackened. I let the official food deliverer know that we ordered blackened shrimp and this was not blackened and she said she could have them throw it back on the grill and 'get it blacker'... Huh? I said no thanks because clearly she wasnt exactly 'in the know' of what 'blackened' really is. Aside from that, one salad was more than plenty for the pair of us to share.

My grandfather got their cheeseburger which is always good. It looks a little like it is pre-made but it good nonetheless. Their fries are also quit tasty and I am quite the fatty fry connoisseur.

Overall, our meal was not bad. And I will of course go again.

The Gulf Drive is what it is, and that is a place I will go everytime I'm in town. It's a tradition for my family to get up early and go down to the GDC. Breakfasts are amazing, and there are lots of options. Makes sure to check out the chalkboard for specials. We almost always see dolphins swimming from our seats on the patio, and that's pretty much all I care about.

We have patronized this place for off and on; 20+years.
Our last experience in February of this year, has convinced me never to return!
We had quite possibly the worst waiter in history.
We had a clash wit George the owner of the joint. He tried to scam us into double swioing my credit card. After an argument; he pushed 1 button and produced the bill.
Needless to say; there was no tip!
Cleanliness is an issue.
This is a darn shame. I have to say that a comment I saw that the Fish & Chips outside the British Isles is darn accurate.
Watch yourself if this joint is on your list.

IT'S CALLED "GULF DRIVE CAFE"... AND THAT'S WHAT IT IS....
FABULOUS BEACH FRONT LOCATION. GOOD FOOD.
A COFFEE SHOP THAT SERVES B-L-D.
I've had lots of very good breakfasts here... and good lunches too.
I've NOT tried it for dinner.
ADDITIONAL PARKING LOT ACROSS THE STREET.

I'll qualify my review by saying that I went to this place only once instead of the multiple times that I like to go before I write a review.

I've had better meals at fast food restaurants.  This is basically a short order kitchen on the beach.  People must come for the view, because the food kind of sucked.  I had a crabcake sandwich that was just marginally edible.  It should have been called a cake sandwich with crab flavoring.  Hey, that's clever, eh?

I was a little suspicious about the cleanliness as there was about two inches of dirty water in the bathroom.  The staff didn't really seem to care.

Nice location and view, entirely forgettable food.
