My boyfriend and I used to go here quite often when I lived in Santa Clara. I haven't tried their pizza yet, but I had the pasta every single visit. My favorite is the spicy firecracker shrimp, which is just perfect for my taste. They also gave us cookies which I thought was really nice of them. They're super nice and friendly. The cashiers were always patient because I always took forever choosing what I want from the menu.
The only thing that was bad was their change of opening time. I think they open at 4pm now. I tried to go in at noon for lunch and found out they were still closed, I was so bummed. Pros: awesome tasting food
Cons: only open for dinner and now cash-only.
Gugu's is one of my favorite italian places in Santa Clara. The food is just outstanding and the staff very friendly. I would give them 4.5 stars (before would've given then 3,5) but can't give them 5-stars since they're only open for dinner now and are cash-only... makes me worried a bit.
I strongly recommend any of their pastas; their sauces are robust and very flavorful. If you visit Santa Clara between 4 n 9pm make it a point to check them out for a pizza or pasta fix.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Why are you close for lunch??? we used to come here for lunch on Saturdays. it was great. Now they are open for dinner only but every day.
we ordered the chicken pesto pizza this week as a take out. we called at 6:15 and they said it will take 20 minutes at least. bummer! it actually took longer, they had an issue with the credit cards machine...
but the pizza was very good, the perfect dough, very thin, not too much sauce and really a great balance of add-ons.
It's also a nice place to sit down, nothing fancy but good
we also tried their spagetti meatballs. it's 12 bucks for 2 meatballs and pasta, you get garlic bread (you can skip) and a nice side salad (not just lettuce and carrots)
they have a yelp special deal 10 for 20 which makes it a really affordable dinner -

Bought a coupon deal from Yelp and tried this place for the first time.
I forgot everything that I ordered but the food was good and love the spicy pizza (even though it was way too spicy).
This place is a bit far from where I live but I will definitely be back for more spicy pizza. -

This place was okayy .. I've definitely had better. The husband and I ordered one large half Hawaiian habanero and the other half was the combination since our daughter loves olives we had to get the combo. We also ordered the spinach and cheese ravioli .. It was cold, didn't have enough sauce and it just seemed like freezer food.. I wasn't to happy with that plate especially with it being $13.99! what a waste . I give them one star for the pizza being alright, the 2nd star for the customer service the employees were nice, they also let my daughter pick out 2 toys from a treasure chest which was pretty cool considering it was a pizza joint and not some dental office. The other star was they had the warriors game on ! :) I probably won't go out of my way to come back here , but it was an a-ok experience

Bought a Yelp Deal. Had to use to it before 2012 hits, cuz I'll be back on a strict diet and training schedule for precontest training for my next bikini competition.
We did a 1/2 and 1/2 of a large pizza. 1/2 Supreme and 1/2 Jerk Chicken.
I had a few slices of both. And both were BOMB DIGGITY delicious! The chicken had the perfect amount of spice on it and the pineapple complimented the chicken, dough and sauce very well. :)
The customer service here is awesome too! Not only did I use a Yelp deal here, but I also "checked-in" on Yelp and got a free house-made ravioli. Annnnnnd...I mentioned that other Yelpers were giving high praises to their pine nut cookies so the chickadee behind the counter gave me 2 cookies to try. OH-EM-GEE, these looked super crunchy and hard to chew but they weren't! They had the softest, chewy center to em. I seriously left that place with some soaked panties. Yes, I get just as excited for food as I do for d***!
I'd love to come back here and grab another large pizza and a GAZILLION cookies to-go por favor! :D -

The cornucopian amount of pizza restaurants in the bay area is immense. It seems like every corner there is a pizza place to eat at. So how does GuGu's stand out above the rest? Well the unique flavors and intriguing decor makes this place a unique restaurants thats above the rest.
Pros
Service: The staff is friendly and will answer every question you ask them about their service.
Atmosphere: Although the place is small it makes up for it in the main theme of grabbing your attention. The walls are decorated with unique pictures and the side of the windows are filled with books and games to read and play. The tables have interesting mini food arcade type games that you can play on. The decor is what truly makes this place stand out above the other restaurants in the Bay Area.
Food: Large varieties of pizza and Italian food to come with. The food quality here is excellent and you can really taste the flavor of the food. Oh use the "Zing" seasoning on the table if you want that little heat in your pizza. Its similar to pepper flakes but it provides that extra seasoning to give you that wow factor.
No Crowd: The place seems to see most of its business in to go orders so its great to dine out. No crowds and quiet areas to dine out.
Cons
Location: This place is easy to find but parking can be a pain as well as the location isn't as popular because it isn't around a large commercial area.
Overall GuGu's unique decor and great food puts it above the rest of other Pizza restaurants. An interesting place to have a date in because of the atmosphere of the restaurant. Come try out this great underrated restaurants if you love Pizza and unique restaurants. Take advantage of the yelp deal. I LOVE their Hawaiian Habanero Pizza!! I am never disappointed. I haven't tried much of their other menu options, but this is by far the BEST pizza. Even some of my friends who aren't pizza lovers are wow'ed by it!

My husband and I shared the Penne Pasta House Special and a Hawaiian Habanero Pizza. The food was really, really good. Nice and spicy but not killer. The service was excellent. My only complaints were that the only beer they had was Budweiser (even though they had a sign that listed a number of different beers) and the pasta came about 5 minutes before the pizza. I would definately go back though.

I love non chain little known pizza places like this. I've been driving past this place for work about everyday and after eating here, I've felt so ashamed! Lol. Anyways everytime I come here the people are so friendly and down to earth, whether I take it to go or dine in it's always good to know that you'll get great customer service from start to finish.
I love the Habanero Hawaiian pizza here it's so tasty with just the right amount of heat for me. I definitely try to order other pizzas whenever I come I just can't get past that Habanero, lol. The buffalo wings I can skip on next time cause they were pretty small the time I had them here but it didn't take away from the overall goodness this place has to offer.
Not feeling for pizza? Then try the Penne Arrabiata, it's so good. They have pickled jalapenos in there so it's not just a boring red sauce pasta. It's got some pizzazz and I also enjoyed the fact that the pasta isn't overcooked, it still has a bit of bite. The garlic bread that comes with it is small, but still tasty! Free refills when you dine in, except on beer obviously. They have books on the window sill that you can read while you wait for your pizza and a tv that plays sports, so it's good spot whether you stay or leave with your pizza.

The pizza combinations are great. We tried the Spicy Hawaiian. Some of my friends don't like it as spicy so we asked for the habaneros on the side-no problem! -

The Good: We really like the atmosphere, the decoration and games, a huge variety of hot sauce, and super friendly customer service with a bright smile. We got free sample of beef ravioli which was decent. We also got half habanero hawaiian and half the #2 special pizza recommended by our cashier which was really good. And the garlic bread is baked to perfection here.
The Bad: The price is a little high but I guess you gotta pay for the fresh taste. The home special pasta we order wasn't to our taste as it was really sour and the buffalo wings were very very small.
Overall: We would definitely come back here because of the great service and the great food. -

So, they're not kidding when they say that the Hawaiian pizza is spicy. But what hit us even more was the Penne arrabiata! We loved the food! Place is small (understatement), but the service and food makes up for it. We saw many people use take-out. They dont have a kids menu but the kids shared a cheese tortellini. Pastas come with salad and garlic bread. We loved the flavor of the food and will be back!

The hippie dressed girl was somewhere in the past and not in the present. Service was pretty bad considering she made no conversation, didn't give us plates and acted as if she was better then us and we are nice to everybody everywhere we go. On top of that pizza was okay, definately had better. Not sure why pizza was rated so high, if taste was why u get pizza then you get a 2, if service was important you get a 1. So disappointed, because I was craving pizza. crust and dough was soft and chewy. two thumbs down

Habanero Hawaiian is my jam! Actually not too spicy but the red pepper powder that comes with the pizza is absurdly spicy, so be careful laying that stuff on.
Got a salad too but that was kind of garbage - just standard iceberg with exactly what it says is in it, house italian tasted like it was all oil.

Great little pizza place that's conveniently down the street from me.
Pizzas are good and pastas are even better. All the pastas are served with a salad. Can substitute the house salad for a Greek salad!
Cashiers are always very friendly and helpful.

Back in July, I went here on a date. The place is very cute. I had no idea you could actually dine in the small establishment. All around the restaurant, are images and facts. I love places that involve trivia and offer their own special unique twist through decor. I ordered some sort of pasta, I do not recall, but it was amazing. I had some of my dates pizza and I was completely over the moon. Their cannoli are also very delicious.

This is a small and cute pizza place! It looks like a very family friendly place. My bf and I ordered the Ravioli, Pesto Chicken pizza, and took a Combination pizza to go. Overall the food was good and the price was very decent.
Service was slightly funky, the wrong items kept coming out to our table. One of the waitresses dropped off a Calzone at our table by mistake, followed by the wrong pasta. But regardless, everyone was friendly and the Calzone looked really good!

Came here due to the highly reviewed ratings on Yelp. Honestly the place seems average. We ordered a caesar salad with dressing on the side and a pesto chicken pizza.
Caesar salad: too much croutons, too much cheese, sauce was watery so the salad was eh...
We ordered chicken pesto. The crust is well done. I wasn't a fan of the chicken it seemed very dry. I ended up taking it off. The pine nuts were to die for though very nutty and delicious. Pizza overall was a little bit saltier than what I would have liked.

I've had pizza and pasta here a few times and definitely enjoy it. I haven't had any of their unique pizzas-I'm a classic pizza person myself. I will say, the sauce and crust are great. The taste is really fresh and I definitely enjoy this place. One word of caution is if you have delivery don't expect any super fast pizza. The pasta is good too (though the pasta isn't homemade). I would definitely pick this place over Super Fast Delivery any day. All and all, a solid place with a little higher price than your average pizza place.

We bought the yelp deal for $10 for $20 worth of food to try the place out without spending too much money. We went in and decided on a large cheese pizza - they had a bunch of different options but we couldn't make up our minds so we just stuck with something simple. We sat down and waited for it to come out - which didn't take long at all. The decor is cute and they have a bunch of books for their customers to read.
The pizza came out and it looked yummy. We had to wait for it to cool down which was harder than it seems. The pizza was DELICIOUS! The best crust ever! It wasn't too thin or thick and I loved the texture. It was chewy and sooo good. My BF and I can NEVER agree on a pizza place so I'm glad that we now found GuGu's and that we both love it.

I rarely buy a 'Buy $10 get $20' type of deal on Yelp or Groupon, but the reviews had me sold. Got the deal went later that evening with my family. Walked in and thought it would be a little bigger, but don't let the size fool ya!
When we arrived we walked in and there was only 2 women eating there pizza and wings and my family. There are books all around the restaurant to enjoy reading while waiting for your pizza. Random games for the children and I THINK a Pac-Man arcade game.
Looked at the menu and saw they had a decent amount to choose from. From pasta to wings and of course pizza. We ordered a dinner and cesar salad, I forgot the name of it, but the pasta filled with cheese with alfredo sauce, and a large pepperoni pizza. The salads took just a few minutes longer than I expected, but nothing to gripe about. Then 10 minutes or so later came our pizza and a minute or two after that my pasta came out. All were delicious! Better than your average pizza which made it more enjoyable and the pasta although about the same price as what you would pay at any other Italian restaurant was tasty. Freshly made, just the right amount of creamy and almost the perfect serving (wish I would have gotten a little more)
As I said before, overall the food was pretty delish and the portions were about what I expected. Friendly staff and a change from Jake's and the Giovanni's by my house is what I needed. I drive by this place weekly and finally came in. Its a cute little place. We got our pizza to go. For the price we paid I thought the pizza was pretty mediocre. Which upset me since I saw such good reviews and its so close to my place. I'd say its overpriced Little Caesars. The pizza wasnt fresh and there was nothing special about the pie. I doubt I'll ever come back.

I've been to GuGu's twice now (although it should be more) and been quite pleased with my experience both times.
First of all, they have excellent pizza. They don't skimp on the sauce like a lot of places (especially chains) do. Their toppings are fresh, the crust is chewy. If you like it spicy, you gotta try the Hot Hawaiian with habanero chili peppers. It's not death, but it's pretty peppy.
On the last visit I tried the lasagna, which had a nice balance of cheese and pasta, with ample amounts of tomato sauce to dip the crispy garlic bread it came with, into. A lot of lasagnas taste like they've just been popped out of a freezer package, but this was fresh and offered a nice mix of mozzarella, parmasan and ricotta.
Other than the pizza and pasta, they make these sneaky little pine nut cookies that they give each customer one free one of. If pine nut cookies don't sound all that exciting, let me just say that they are chewy, moist and way more addicting than you might think.
For fun, they usually have a TV playing either old b/w silent films with Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton, or this crazy Rube Goldberg machine video.
The staff is always cheerful and helpful. I wish the place was a little bigger, but that's really not much of a complaint, is it?
GuGu's is the kind of place that you sense gives a rip about it's customers. They deserve your patronage not just because they're not a faceless pizza chain, but because the quality is high and the staff is professional and courteous. I love GuGu's, this restaurant is adorable! The pizza is great as well as the pastas! GuGu's has this awesome Toy Chest for kids to dig through after they eat dinner as a token to take home. I thought this was a great idea! I highly recommend eating at this restaurant you won't be disappointed!

Oh my God! The pizza here is AMAZING. I had the pepper and sausage pizza, seriously delicious! They have this pizza pepper stuff you can drop on your pizza to make it 10x better. The employees here are super nice, and they even have Yoo Hoo as one of the drinks available on the menu. Who does that????

The food here is decent. Kind of pricey for the size of Pizza/salad you get, but it's good pizza. Nothing too spectacular or anything that makes them stand out. The staff are nice and friendly, but their turnover time for bringing out food was unbearable. My friend and I went here for a lunch break that only lasts an hour. It took 10 minutes to drive there from work, and another 30 minutes for them to bring out the food, so we only had 20 minutes left to eat and not really enjoy our food.

The meat ravioli was so good - great marinara sauce. I tried my son's pizza - and I loved the crust - nice flavor overall and he certainly loved it. Friends had meatball sandwich and lasagna and everyone enjoyed their dishes.
Atmosphere - very casual and relaxed - great for kids or adults and something for everyone. From looking at the outside of the building you would never expect that such great food awaits you inside.

My friends and I came to this place based on the reviews on yelp, and also because they offer the 10 for 20 coupon. The total came out to be around 15 bucks. That's pretty darn cheap for a large pizza! We got a Large Pesto Pizza, which was decent, and split it between 4 people and was filling. There were 3 guys and 1 girl.
We also knew ahead of time, that if you 'check-in' at this place, they'll give you a free ravioli sampler. At the risk of looking like a bunch of cheap Asians, (with a half off coupon already used) we decided to take advantage of this offer. We honestly didn't expect much, because, you know, it's a free sampler. We thought that we would just get a couple raviolis thrown on a plate and "here you go, now get out...". But to our surprise, when we presented the proof of check-in, the owner and the cashier not only obliged, but also did so joyfully. Their service was amazing. The owner even asked us if we wanted the party platter... But we were already stuffed from the pizza so we just stuck with the one we were supposed to get, which came with 4. Upon getting it, not only was it delicious, it was beautifully presented.
All we expected was some good, cheap pizza, but we ended up getting free ravioli and great customer service. I'm telling everyone about this place now! Thanks GuGu! -

I have always been sketchy about this place. I've lived in Santa Clara my whole life, this place used to be Papa Johns, then it changed to Baba Johns and something after then GuGu's Pizza.
It was sad to see it change so many times over the years. My boyfriend and I saw a groupon for this place so we decided why not lets try it, it has stayed GuGu's for over a year now.
We came in on a weeknight and used our groupon for a dine in. The cashier was very friendly and gave us suggestions since it was our first time. We got combination pizza, cesar salad and linginue piccata. They were both delicious! The pizza was crisp and super hot when it arrived at our table. My boyfriend was in love with the garlic toast that came with my pasta. The salad was great too, they grated fresh cheese on my salad.
As we paid for our bill we were offered free pine nut cookies which were yummy!

Very polite hostess and waitresses. Place could be bigger. Great selection of pizza and pasta. There were a good collection of interesting books to read while you wait for your order. I would come back here again and try other food on the menu.

One of my friends had been telling me about how good Gugu's Pizza is. When the Groupon came out I immediately picked one up. I'm over 30 minutes away so it's hard to make it out that way for a quick bite.
Finally decided to check it out and Called in Togo order at 11am when the opened. Gentleman who answered the phone was very friendly and enthusiastic. Repeated my order to verify. Gave est of 25-30 min. Arrived 20 min later and pizza was just coming out of the oven.
Juan the cashier handled my transaction and helped me to my car with the pies since I had the kids with me. I like how cheese and peppers were already placed in the pizza boxes. Juan was great! Very friendly and professional and even helped me take the pies to the car (had two kids with me)
The pizzas were delicious! Very generous on the toppings. There was an abundance of red, green, and yellow peppers on the combo! Yum! The meat lovers was tasty with lots of fresh ingredients. You could tell they put a lot of effort and care into their food.

I pass this restaurant every time I go to work, but I thought this was just another regular local pizza joint. After seeing the review on Yelp, I tried it out for dinner.
There were 3 of us. We had personal pan pizza (with unlimited toppings), lasagna, fettucini carbonara, and linguini with chicken, capers & lemon. We also asked about the ravioli sample and got cheese, spinach, and meat ravioli one for each. There were A LOT of food for us.
The taste wasn't extraordinary, but NOT BAD at all! I particularly like the creamy fettucini. It was creamy and filled with tons of bacon & prosciutto! The portion was big and don't forget they also give free salad with pasta. For the pizza, it was OK. If hey put (more) red sauce on it, it'll be better.
The restaurant itself is tiny. Luckily it wasn't crowded that night. However, I LOVE that they put big screen TV with wood fire video and jazz music playing. So cute!
Value wise, it wasn't the best bang for the buck. I mean, their pasta dinner meal is $11.99. While at Maggiano's, you'll get 2 classic pasta meals for $12.99. Maggiano's sure have better atmosphere (and free flow bread).
Anyway, it was a good experience; probably will be back again one day. -

Okay. This place has recently become my go to spot for family date nights, gatherings of friends, and study sessions. I try to take my wife and 10 month old daughter here each Monday. If my wife is working, it's just me and my girl. On Thursday nights, I meet with a bunch of guys there to hang out and study. Each night, we order food. Here's why this place is rapidly becoming my number one hang out spot:
1. The Food
The pizza is phenomenal. The dough is fresh and tasty, with a flavor I can't describe but to say that it's delicious. Their toppings are all amazing. Sizes and pricing is reasonable, and my friends and I have gotten to the point where we each just order our own personal 6" pizza for only $4.99! Unlimited toppings. Come on. You can't beat that deal ANYWHERE! Or the taste. Check it out.
2. Staff
The staff here is friendly. They remember who you are. They interact with you. It's great!
3. The Ambiance
It's a small business, but it feels like it could be your home. Table are comfortably close to one another. They have a small library of books that line their windows. It's just a comfortable place.
4. The Distance
If you live in Santa Clara, you won't be far from this place. I either walk or bike from my house. It's a nice walk to a nice establishment in a nice neighborhood.
Overall, this is as good as it gets. Come and hang out with us sometime! I feel like I'm inviting you over to my house. Do it! Eat the pizza, the pasta, the food! The canoli's are bomb. Say hi! Anything. Check this place out.

I just picked up my food 45 minutes ago, and wanted to write this while I still have this awesome taste in my mouth.
We had a Groupon, so I ordered several pastas to get a good sampling of their food. I have been drriving by GuGu's for years, and thanks to Groupon, I finally tried it.
Firstly, several people mentioned their customer service was lacking. Not sure what they experienced, but my telephone order and when I picked it up was a pleasant and friendly experience.
Now, let's get to the food. They give you a huge salad with veggies on top! Really...with each entree. It is quite tastey. Had carrots, tomatoes, fennel, and red onions. And also, wasn't the cheapo iceburg lettuce. Nice.
The pastas...
Firecracker Shrimp - wow. Super good. Little Spicey. = 5 stars
Pasta Ala Carbonara - also very good. = 4 stars
Spinach Raviloi - this reminded me of something my mom made when i was little. They are huge raviolis, light and fluffy. = 4 stars
