I'm a fan because they have the quintessential Tex-Mex atmosphere:

Random domestic and Mexican beer neon signs? Check!
Flags on a rope? Check!
Unrelated clowns dangling from balloons? Check!
Super friendly staff? Check!

Inexpensive, multi-plate dishes? Check!
Extensive menu? Check!
Taco, chalupa, enchilada, and tamale, and queso, AND guac all on my one two-dish plate for 10.99? Check, check and check!!!

No hassle acceptance of 2 for 1 coupon? Check!

UT game on big screen? Cheeeeecccckkkk!

Flavor? Eh

Late morning Saturday were in the mood for migas so we headed to Tapatio on S. Bell but they were jam packed. We decided to try Guadalajara restaurant since we had never been.

First downfall, they open at 11, so they don't serve Migas, or any breakfast menu for that matter.

The place was empty so they sat us right away and brought out chips & salsa. Right off we were not at all impressed with the salsa.  Clearly the base was canned tomatoes.  There was a salsa bar but no one mentioned it, and I'm nosey so I got up and served a couple of small samples so I could try them all, hoping for even a minor improvement from what they had served us.  None of the three were any better. Disappointed.

I ordered the combo # 4 - two crispy beef tacos and queso.  Taco meat wasn't what I'd call bland, but it was just lightly seasoned with, I'm guessing, salt & pepper and not much else. I'm not complaining here, just not impressed either. The queso was really good though.

He ordered the spinach enchiladas which I tasted and they were really good. I mean really good. The beans and rice were meh.

I have mixed emotions. I'd go back for the enchiladas and the queso for sure, but I'd bring in my own salsa (picture me sneaking in some dona sauce from Taco Deli or some pico from Chuy's).  I would eat the crispy tacos again, but I've had way better at other places (I like the greasy ones at Tio dan's in RR).

This past Sunday was not the first time dining in this restaurant, but it will be my last.  The first time was back in 2007 when cricket season was in full swing.  They had tons of crickets inside the restaurant that probably even made their way into their kitchen.  Made me wonder about the food.  Neither my wife, nor I thought the food was good.

With that first experience, I don't know why I decided to give them another try.  Well, OK, I know why, it's those damn coupons in my entertainment book.  They were begging to be used and I am cheap, so I obliged.  From the moment I stepped in with the kiddos, I knew I had made a mistake.  The place had a good amount of folks for a Sunday lunch hour despite the fact that the place smelled like rotting sourness.

We received our basket of chips which were cold and had that chewy, not fresh taste to them.  They must have been sitting out for a few hours soaking in the sour humidity in the air.  I asked that they
replace them with fresh warm chips.  The next basket was slightly warmer, but were still from the same batch of chewy chips.

I ordered the Super Burrito which was $7.99, I think.  It was supposed to come with beans, fajita meat, rice,  and all the fixins.  It arrived at my table, not looking so "super".  Sad in fact, cut in half and deflated, slightly larger than a $0.79 burrito from Taco Bell.  I took my first bite and everything in it was cold.  The veggies I expected, but not the meat, beans and rice too.  I was upset that a restaurant would allow cold food to be served.  I called the waiter over and asked if he could heat it up because it was cold.  OK, waiter this is your cue to actually have a new burrito made and made well.  Instead he nuked it and all of the cold veggies now were radioactive.  I was upset and I vented to the manager, who was willing to make a new one, but I declined.

Restaurants should be proud of the food they make and serve.  This one has no pride.

My family & I have enjoyed Guadalajara since it opened several years ago. The food is always delicious. The staff is always friendly, though once in a while understaffed for a dinner rush. The best aspect of all is that the family that owns this place is always actively there, serving tables, seating guests and taking care of their customers.

They've some more competition since they opened, but they are still one of the best Tex-Mex restaurants in the Cedar Park area.

Favorites: #4 combo (2 Beef Tacos & Queso), Shrimp Diavolo, Summer Plate and of course: chips & salsa!

I generally don't like Tex-Mex food, but Guadalajara's food was tasty.  The menu has a lot of variety, low prices, great deals on weekday specials, and lunch specials.  I'm used to low restaurant prices from living in Houston for so many years and Guadalajara did not disappoint me.  Most Tex-Mex restaurants in Austin are incredibly overpriced, but this place was actually fair.  For example, a lot of the lunch specials (with decent servings of food) are around $5.60.

They're even the only Tex-Mex place in Austin I know of that has a buffet--on Sundays.  They used to have it every day, but there was not enough demand.  The waiters were really friendly and attentive.

The location is in the corner of a V in the Starbucks shopping center at the Lakeline Blvd and Cypress Creek Rd intersection.

Pretty good food. I had the stuffed poblano chiles, and they were tasty, but the batter was a little too greasy. My wife's shrimp enchiladas were really good. Chips and salsa were good, not great, and the kids meals (mac n cheese of course) were nothing special. Service was great, however, and the prices were pretty good too. I'm still searching for some really awesome Mexican food nearby, but unfortunately Guadalajara wasn't it.

I went to eat here with my wife and a friend recently and I was not very impressed.  There was one item I really liked  - the queso flameado con chorizo - but everything else was just mediocre.  I had the "Guadalajara" meal which basically includes a little of everything - a cheese enchilada, a tamal, a taco, a chalupa, some queso, gauc salad, and rice and beans.  I can't really say I found anything in it to really have any flavor; it was for the most part tasteless.  The Michilada I had was way overpowered with salty tomato juice (most likely for bloody mary's) and was missing lime altogether.  My wife had a mango margarita, however, and it was pretty good.

What also ranks them low is the poor service.  The waiter was very friendly but rarely around and we never received a single drink refill.  If they were busy it would have been more acceptable.  There were at most 4 tables seated and it looked as though there were more waiters than tables to be waited on.

Despite the fact that I really liked the appetizer - the food and service here can't possibly achieve the 3 starred "A-OK" because I won't be returning here.

This is the best local Cedar Park Mexican restaurant.  Kind of an authentic ambiance.  Their appetizer sampler platter is to-die for!  They have a couple different kinds of queso - try the one with real cheese (not the liquid stuff)...it is awesome.  Just try it and you'll see how great it is.
