I seriously will eat anything that is free. You can find me roaming the aisles of Whole Foods or Central Market any weekend eating every free sample they offer. So when we rolled into Gruene this weekend and I was asked where I wanted to go first. I pointed the the sign for Gruene Haus that read "daily samples" below it.

"Daily samples" does not quite describe what is going on in here. This store is pretty tiny, but easily had a hundred things to sample. Salsas, mustards, relish, chocolate peanut butter, blackberry jam, pumpkin butter . . . . The list went on and on, and from the looks of it, it is all handmade. Not locally, though.

I left with just one jar of Pumpkin Butter (to die for, by the way) but I still have dreams of the room full of samples!
