10 reviews for Groveland Hotel
My kids where out of town so my neighbor and I planned a trip to Yosemite for our wives and us - highly recommended by the way. When we made the reservations my neighbor mentioned that the hotel had a restaurant. I hesitated yet we confirmed our dinner reservations for our first night as well. Well, let me say that this was one of the most charming B&B / hotel style establishments I have visited.
The hotel has a great deal of classic charm. Small bathrooms with the sink in the rooms (a historic hotel in a nearby town requires you to walk to an outbuilding) and moderate sized bedrooms. The hotel is well maintained and clean. The staff is professional and courteous. Our room included a full breakfast the next morning that was far greater than that of any hotel I have stayed at. Omelets made to order, tasty pastries, and fruit. The other thing that I noticed was that they had a lot of healthy and vegetarian offerings without being over the top.
Dig the hotel, dig the staff, dig the restaurant. Way to stand up for small town America Groveland Hotel.
Our Band the Blues Box Bayou Band http://www.thebluesbox... played at the Grovleand Hotel on July 10th 2009. We were treated to dinner prior to the evenings entertainment.
Each of our 5 band members raved about our dinner, fresh, you could taste the fresh incredients, the flavor was outstanding.
The service was attentive.
Each of will return as non-musicians. This is a destination for dinner that is a "Must"

The staff at the hotel was extremely pleasant. The owner goes out of her way to check with the guests to make sure that they are enjoying their stay. Great breakfast included with the price of the room. The hotel welcomes dogs, you can eat breakfast and dinner on the patio with your dogs. The room was a little small, but everything else more than makes up for it. It was wonderful to spend the day at Hetch Hetchy and being able to relax on the porch later with a glass of wine. We will definitely be going back!
For the price we paid for the largest suite, this was incredibly awful. They charge for each additional person. There were only 2 twin beds in one room with teddy bears for an added bonus. In the other room was literally a dilapidated sofa couch and that was it. They say 4 people can easily stay in that suite. NOT THE CASE. One had to sleep on a broken aerobed that deflated in the middle of the night. The other slept on the sofa bed which sunk down to the floor in the middle. There is NO JACUZZI as advertised. It is just a shower/tub found in any Holiday Inn. The coffee maker is nothing to brag about even though the hotel does. The breakfast actually was the only good thing, if you are willing to wait for the coffee that keeps running out. They are low on staff. As for the restaurant, we did try the dinner and again considering the prices charged, the food was not good. The scallop dish was incredibly salty.
This is a very comfortable and homey inn conveniently close to Yosemite. We took their most inexpensive room, "Just Juanita", and were very satisfied. A substantial breakfast is included in the price of the room, and you can dine on the back patio and enjoy the garden and the trees. The only flaw I noticed is that the walls are a little thin.
Had dinner here while camped at Yosemite Pines. The food was absolutely great, nothing like what you might expect in a tiny country town.
We showed up at the very end of dinner service and they were happy to serve us. Would absolutely recommend!
My wife and I spent a few days at the Groveland Hotel last week. We got the Julia Bullette suite, which gets plus points for the spa tub, the fireplace, and the big king-sized bed with lots of pillows, quilts. Even bonus points for the crazy leopard print robes and fur on the bed, which was strange for this country B&B but fun. Big bathroom. Heat worked well. Free wireless Internet. Proprietors were nice. Had dinner there one night and we enjoyed it. Overall decor is country in a large historical Victorian. They have a thing for teddy bears I don't get but we just put them in the armoire and they didn't give us any trouble. Although our room was next to the Lyle Room, which is allegedly haunted, we had no ghost sightings during our trip.
On the negative, the breakfast buffet is terrible -- if you stay there even though it comes with the room I would advise you to skip it and eat elsewhere. Also, our room was not ready until after 4 pm even though we had put up a sign requesting service at 7 am that morning. Overall the service was kind of spotty. Prices are good for what you get, not great, but not rob-you-blind like at the Awanhee in Yosemite Valley. And if you are going to stay in Groveland, it seemed clear that this is the nicest place to stay.
They have a deal where you get $40 gas credit plus a $20 credit for a 7-day Yosemite car pass, a vase of roses, a bottle of champagne and a 2-for-1 dinner entree voucher if you stay for three nights.
About Groveland: Groveland is somewhat further from Yosemite (and especially from Yosemite Valley) than some might like -- the valley is fully an hour away by car. But the drive is very nice, and we really didn't mind it. Groveland itself is quaint but suffers a bit from having Hightway 120 as its "Main Street" -- a little too much traffic to maintain the town's otherwise sleepy and quaint appearance. In the off season (now) many of the businesses are closed. But we still had a great time. If you go, you need to check out the Iron Door Saloon, which is next door to the Groveland Hotel. It stakes a claim to fame as the oldest continuously running bar in California, back to 1851 I think. Beware the taxidermy, but enjoy local flavor and an authentic western saloon.

Stopped here for dinner. Food is excellent, and reasonably priced. The poor waitress was run off her feet. This is the best place in town to eat, and the Iron Door is the best place to drink.
We just stayed at the Groveland Inn for the second time in 12 months. It's a lovely change from your run-of-the mill hotel, quaintly decorated even down to the teddy bears on your bed. Leopard-print robes hanging in the dresser are a nice touch!
The restaurant is spectacular, with gourmet dishes that would rival city restaurants that have a long waiting list. We were there for Saturday night and booked our table a day ahead, which I would recommend.
The website advertises that the Inn will pack a picnic lunch for you to take to Yosemite (a necessity, as the few meagre places in the park that serve food are very overcrowded and under-whelming). Unfortunately the website doesn't tell you that you need to book the picnic hamper 2 - 3 days in advance.
Breakfast is included in the room rates, and is also very good. They have a buffet selection of cereals, fruit and pastries and also cook a hot breakfast to order.
The Inn is dog friendly, so you can take your pooches along.
The only downside is that it's about an hour's drive into Yosemite valley - a bit long if you're using it as a base for a couple of days visit to the park.
We booked in advance for New Years Eve dinner. They had three seatings; food was terrific. Extensive wine list. Can't wait to return in warm weather to enjoy dining on the patios.
