Haverhill, MA
This is the best breakfast place in the greater Haverhill area, in my opinion. You know of one better? Love to hear about it.
This place has a really cool old menu board when you first walk in, with things like fries for five cents or some such antiquated thing. And they have old copies of Life magazine for you to peruse at the table! Love it.
The waitstaff was nice and the food came out fast. And it was damn good too. Good solid homefries. And where else can you get spam and eggs?
Never had lunch here, and I know they also do do dinner once a week, which I would like to check out but have not. Worth a trip, for sure. -

Rolling through Groveland before a snow storm, I made a lunch stop at the Groveland Diner, which has been open for only a month in the former Sheehan's Restaurant. This breakfast/lunch restaurant serves up traditional American fare with daily specials offered including egg dishes, sandwiches, burgers, and comfort dishes such as spaghetti & meatballs, franks & beans, liver & onions, and macaroni & cheese. The coffee brewed here is New England Coffee and the corned beef hash is homemade! Breakfast is served all day. The prices here are reasonable, items under $10. The place has the atmosphere and charm of a local diner with vintage decor on the walls including an old classic menu board near the front door, table seating, and lunch counter seating with an open grill area.
Okay, for starters, I had a cup of Clam Chowder ($2.99 served on Fridays), which had minced clams & onions in a hot milky broth, which was just alright. For lunch, the Bacon Cheeseburger ($6.49) was served hot off the grill with crinkle cut fries and pickle spear. The bacon strips were nice & greasy (thumbs up!) and the burger patty was very firm. The fries were fried golden brown to perfection with a crispy outside texture. I also tried out a small sample of homemade potato chips, which were very good, similar to the chips served at Firefly's BBQ. For dessert, I had the Grapenut Custard ($1.99) warmed up and topped with whipped cream. I added some Vermont Maid Syrup to the custard for a great ending.
Since I was sitting up at the lunch counter, I got attentive service from two waitresses and the owner Mike asking if I was all set and needed anything. The staff was getting ready to close up due to the inclement weather, so I settled up and so I could make it home before the roads got really messy. I will have to return for breakfast. For now, an overall 3.35 STARS for the lunch.Listed in: Diners

The interior is neat, sparse and clean in white and red, with war era posters and memorabilia sprinkled throughout. There are tables and the classic diner stools and counter, which is where I landed.
Coffee was . . .good!
I say that with surprise, as the last couple diner experiences I've had resulted in caffeinated but vaguely unpleasant cups o' Joe that tasted just like the innards of the giant coffee percolator thingy smelled at my parent's church kitchen when I was growing up. You know: stale, metallic, burned coffee-ish mixed with dust and a whiff of industrial cleaner.
But the coffee here tasted. . .like coffee, and that's it. So I'm good with that.
Anyhoooo. . .quick, friendly service - I had hash and eggs. Good hash, very tasty with nice crispy bits. Eggs were good too, cooked perfectly just how I asked, over easy.
My coffee was topped off lots of times, I had some nice friendly small talk with cooks and waitresses, and . . . .the piéce de resistance. . .they gave me (and I'm assuming, everyone else :D) a tootsie roll with my check. * 5 year old me* YAY tootsie roooool!! nomnomnomnom
I'll be back if I'm ever up that way and needing breakfast again.

The Groveland Diner is your classic small town diner, complete with old men sitting at the bar stools until closing, hints of the fifties, and a red-and-white decor theme.
My husband & I wanted to eat here just to say we had since we drive by it every week, and were pleasantly surprised to find that it would actually be a place we could stop on our way in & out of Haverhill. Their homemade hash is quite good; their pancakes fluffy; the coffee OK...nothing so spectacular that it would get on "Diners, Drive Ins, and DIVEs", but still a pretty solid choice for the area.
Our table was clean, the food was fast and our waitress was friendly--you really can't ask for more in a diner. They were out of a few things when we ordered, but we were there only about an hour before they closed. They also apparently HAD a sign that said "CASH ONLY", but it blew away...since we didn't know that, we had to run to the little Subway/mini-mart a few doors down to the ATM, which sort of rankled at the time. Those downfalls notwithstanding, it's worth a stop in to savor the local character for a bit. -

I'd go back....what I had was pretty good, just not exactly accurate.
I had hash pepper onion omelet with h/w and dry wheat side of beans and coffee. Coffee was good and kept getting refills. My omelet was tasty but there was cheese in it and i didnt order cheese. There also wasnt a lot of hash...more peppers on a lot of onions that were soggy. Still good though...
Bride had the big bfast with eggs pancakes bacon h/f and side of toast.
My h/f's tasted good but were a little on the not warm side.
Service was good except she forgot my beans at first and the cheese in omelet. very friendly.
will go back. -

I go there almost every weekend with my daughter. I always feel welcomed and part of an extended family. They even know what we are going to order.
