I went with my family yesterday for a belated birthday celebration. Overall ambiance was pretty good. It seemed clean with attentive staff. I orderd a staple - veal picatta while my wife and father ordered the sea bass. The veal and bass were more like a stew than they were what we expected. The veal picatta flavor was fine, but it was drowning in sauce, I had to search for the veal when it arrived. For deserts, I had a cheese cake while my wife had a frozen key lime pie. The cheese cake was adequate and the key lime pie tasted more like a piece of frozen cheese cake sprinkled w/lime. We may come back to try the steak, but I can't recommend their pasta "stews".
I'd give it a zero if I could. Pretty close to the worst Italian food I've ever had. Go to Olive Garden, they at least attempt to create Italian food.
I ordered veal parmesan. The waiter asked if I wanted my vegetables on top...?!?!?!?. First, they'd kill you for that in Brooklyn. Second, who puts veggies on top of veal parmesan?? My veal, I will say, was tender but they put that on the bottom, the spaghetti on top of that, some sauce and cheese and then, I think, they baked it all together. Never had veal parmesan served to me that way. My 1st generation Italian mother-in-law was appalled when I told her. It was overcooked and dry, overall.
My husband ordered a special with a garlic butter suace. The sauce was so oily, it was a a mini Exxon Valdez.
Breadsticks were a prepackaged grissini that were slightly stale.
I had read in another review that if you weren't a regular, don't expect good service. Ummm yeah I'll go with that. In a restaurant with lots of open tables, we got a table for two right in front of the kitchen door. The waiter seemed resentful of our presence. I expect that at the Ritz Carlton or the Parker House in Boston. How does a restaurant expect to add more regulars if they can't tolerate newcomers.
Olive Garden, Carrabbas, or Macaroni Grill are better than this joint and those are chain Italian restaurants. Nuff said.
I absolutely LOVE this restaurant! I have only been a couple of times and ordered filet mignon and it was wonderful! I don't have an Italian background though, so I wouldn't know if it were prepared true to form. All I know was it was pleasing and so was my experience.
mediocre Italian, but there again Memphis is a mediocre food city too, no surprises...don't like the location either, kinda dangerous
