I learned about this place through my roommate, who had to take his Honda Pilot in for a CEL (Check Engine Light).

I took my 2003 Acura RSX-S with 116,000 miles in for a check up, and Jerry the mechanic gave me an honest service, telling me that I needed to replace a broken motor mount, front passenger strut tower, but not replace my brake pads because they were still new.

The price is very fair, and Jerry does not push you to purchase any more services than you need.

I've been going to this shop for 1 year (ever since I got my car) and I'm very happy with the service. I tell all my friends with civics and other Honda vehicles to go to this place rather than Pacific Honda and I would not tell anyone otherwise.

By the way, for those of you doubting the legitimacy of this shop, Jerry the mechanic is very knowledgeable on Acura and Honda vehicles, so much that Acura NSX owners from around the country come to this shop to service their cars.

I've taken two seperate cars here in the past two years and have had OUTSTANDING service on both of them.

Took my Honda civic here after trying to get the breaks fixed 3 times at a Firestone Auto place. They told me that firestone hadn't used the right parts and fixed them for me for a fair price. My breaks work like brand new since then!

I recently took my Acura MDX there because I thought there might be something wrong with it. They looked at my car for a few hours and not only told me nothing was wrong, they suggested I get a new air filter at my 60,000 mile check up with NO PRESSURE to get it done immediately. The best part...they charged me $0.

I will not take my car anywhere else from here on out!!!

BTW I'm also a younger female who knows nothing about cars. Love not being taken advantage of :)

I have a Toyota 4runner and was in need of a new starter so I called more than 10 places around San Diego. When I called Greenlight they won me over with the best quote and best treatment they were super nice and professional. When I arrived there were no surprises, just great service, a great price and a job well done. I should know because my Grandfather was a mechanic. I highly recommend and will definitely be back.

I yelped "BRAKE SERVICES" around my neighborhood and Greenlight Auto Care and other shops came up.  I called around and decided to take my 93 MR2 in for a brake job.  They provided fast service with diagnosis and pricing.  I need to replace 4 pads and 2 rotors.  Jerry the owner (nice guy) gave me a good quote so I let them work on my car.  I picked it up the next day and the brakes is working great!  Great service and decent prices! Looking for an honest mechanic is a pain in the A$$!  SO here's a good one for you.

I just called Greenlight Auto Care. I'm the proud owner of an '85 Supra. A few days ago after an issue with a bad alternator, my car wouldn't start. I swapped out the alternator for a new one, and nothing... Since then it's been hell to diagnose this problem. I tore most of the ignition system to crap and after replacing several other parts I still had nothing. I finally narrowed it down to one possible thing... Perhaps my ECU was bad... I removed it and without a doubt it had some damage to it, but could this little bit of damage cause my engine not to start? Everywhere I looked online had mixed opinions about whether or not an ECU could cause an engine to not start. When I asked Jerry if an ECU could cause an engine to not start he quickly replied absolutely. His certainty alone has given me a tremendous amount of confidence in the knowledge he has. In case you all were wondering... asking that simple question means a lot to me because I am the owner of an '85 SUPRA. The thing is IMPOSSIBLE to find parts for and I didn't want to buy something as expensive as an ECU to find out it had no part in the problem whatsoever. So thanks to Jerry's knowledge and the fact that I've troubleshot everything short of this, I am very confident when I slap in the new ECU my car will fire up just fine. Just my phone call with this shop has sold me on their service and I will always take my Supra to Greenlight for anything I can't do myself. Thanks again Jerry! You really helped me out with that simple little answer.

So...I'm sitting here while Jerry is working on my car and I'm having an epiphany. Before greenlight...i used to carshop hop like a mofo. My dad used to fix things on my car...but then he had a stroke and can no longer help. After my dad's stroke, I car shop hopped EVERYWHERE...I would scamper to all sorts of shop trying to find my car repair niche in San Diego. I would go to random shops, get ripped off and they never saw me again. I have been coming to greenlight  for over a year. Let me tell you, that's gotta be a great testimony coming from me. Before I would always have anxiety attacks just thinking about getting my car looked at. At this point  I will never think of going anywhere else. Ladies, if you're hesitant to go to a car repair shop because you're fearful of being charged a bucu amount of money and getting hustled for unnecessary repair services...give greenlight a chance...they won't disappoint. Real talk from someone who HATES getting her car serviced-they make it pain free and they don't BS with you. You won't regret it. If you look at my other reviews, you could see I'm picky and I can be a bastard when reviewing places. I've got mucho respect for Jerry and his crew. Ahh yes, and a shoutout to my buddy Frank...he's awesome!!!

Last week I went into Greenlight Auto to have my car looked at. Each time my car idled at a stop light, it overheated, but cooled down as soon as I started to move. Jerry came out and let me know what could be wrong. He gave me two possibilities: it was either  the thermostat (the cheaper fix) or the water pump (the expensive fix).

To save me money, Jerry suggested fixing the thermostat, and he gave me an estimated time it will take (1.5-2 hours). Jerry was spot on with the fix and with the time. Total cost 140.75. Since then my car has not overheated. More than anything I now have peace of mind, and that is priceless.

I must add, what I appreciated dearly was how approachable each person was at the shop. They spoke to me in language I could understand (without technical jargon), like they were speaking to a friend. Nor did I feel pressured (not even subtly) to make a "life or death" decision. This is a feeling I get at other shops. Importantly Greenlight Auto was interested in educating me on the situation at hand, so I could make an informed decision, in the most objective way possible.

    At-last I found a good place!

They are humble, didn't try to up-sell anything, they are pretty straight about what needs to be done

    * Whats wrong in the car(if it really has one).
    * Whats good in the car.
    * What&when needs to be changed/serviced.

Took my Honda for inspection because 3days ago when I took my car to fxxxxxxxe for oil change & inspection they gave me a quote for $6xx . The quote is for transmission fluid flush, break fluid flush and Cooling system service.

But when GreenLight inspected they said the fluid levels are fine and my car is in a good shape, it just need a transmission service and I know that I drove 40K miles since my last transmission serviced(in owners manual it mentioned that every 30k miles you need a transmission service). Jerry said according to Honda standards my rear brake pads needs to replaced and it is expected to hear wheel squeaking noise in 3 months time so I can drive for a month or two to replace it.

I did my transmission service and did change engine air filter, I am damn happy about the service and the bill.

I strongly recommend GreenLight Auto Care.

I usually work on my own car but living in a Condo has made it tough to sneak around (my own garage mind you) in the middle of the night to do an oil change.

This time around my car needed moderate work (it had just been stolen/recovered) and since the wiring was damaged, it would be pretty tough to fix in the middle of the night with the garage door closed.

So I called a few shops to get some quotes and decided on Greenlight based on the yelp reviews (thank you my fellow yelpers).  I couldn't be any happier.  My experience working with Jerry and the rest of the crew there was great.  True car guys.  Made me want to just hang out there and bs about cars all day.  Everything from what I was quoted, when my car would be ready and the quality of work put into my "work" car was definitely up there.  I'll continue to go to Jerry for my auto care needs...unless I feel like "breaking" the rules at home!!!

Wanted to find an alternate to Tipton Honda because they're a bunch of pinheads.  Searching on Yelp, I found Greenlight Auto and saw that they had pretty good reviews.

They're a pretty small shop and the location is in an odd place, easy to miss.  It's probably more geared for rice-rockets so it was odd bringing my CRV there.  Brought it in for a 60K tune-up.  They basically do everything the Honda dealership does.  Said it would take a couple of hours.  Even offered a ride home, which I declined but it was nice to know it was available.  They were basically done in 1.5 hours.  Pretty efficient.  They didn't try to upsell anything like the dealership always does.  They said that the brake pads were getting low but nothing major, and definitely have it addressed in the next service.

Talking to the guy there, it seems that they get most of their business from Yelp so they are getting good word-of-mouth.  Props to the small businesses that don't try to milk you.

I've had Jerry and the Greenlight Family service my Honda for the last 135k miles. They have done ALL of the work, from oil changes to major repairs.
My car has never let me down, and I think that is due to the service that it's received over the years.
Their prices are fair, and their communication is excellent. I'm quick to recommend them to any friend with a Honda.

For those of us who know little about cars besides how to drive them (and even that is sometimes questionable), going to the mechanic is an experience that many people will admit to avoiding like the plague. After pushy sales experiences at any of the easily recognizable chain stores and dealership mechanics out there, I can't really blame anyone for letting their brand new Civic turn into a clunker after waiting 20,000 miles to get the oil replaced.

Who really needs a radiator, brake, and transmission fluid exchange EVERY TIME the car goes in for an oil change? And what, exactly... WHAT is a "tune-up"?

Given the typical hostile mechanic environment, I was becoming increasingly accepting of the idea that honest and professional mechanics do not exist.  That was until Mr. Yelp introduced me to the guys at Greenlight.

I took my '05 Civic in to these guys to get the oil replaced - a very simple and quick routine. All went well until one of the mechanics pulled me to the back and said, "Your front engine mount is broken. Did you know that?" In my mind I thought the same pattern was being repeated - up-sale the oil change and get more money out of the stupid boy.  They kindly offered to show me what happened and, sure enough, the engine mount was completely broken and needed to be replaced ASAP. To my surprise, the cost of replacing the mount was actually lower than the estimate. Finally, a mechanic who doesn't take advantage of a high estimate and charges only for the amount of work done!

How long I'd been driving with a broken mount was anyone's guess. Judging from the significant improvement in the quality of my car's acceleration, I would say that the guys over at Honda missed it for at least 6 months.

The guys at Greenlight are truly deserving of your business and will treat you and your car with respect. I'll definitely be returning to them for the foreseeable future.

I got tired of being ripped off by the auto maintenance services of Honda Dealerships for my Honda vehicle. Before the existence of Yelp, I relied on blind faith...and that blind faith turned out to be an advertisement I saw on The Reader Magazine several years ago. That is how I stumbled upon Greenlight Auto Care in February 2007 and never looked back.  This shop does specialize in Honda and Acuras however, has expanded their auto services to other car make models such as Dodge, Ford, GMC, Hyundai, Isuzu, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Sterling, and Toyotas.

Its a small family owned shop. Jerry is the head mechanic there and there is also Bryan, one of the service technicians. Jerry used to work for Cush Acura as their Service Team Leader/Head Mechanic in a former life. He's also an ASE Master Technician. He's nothing short of awesome. He's straightforward, very knowledgeable, and unpretentious. I never felt like I was talked down upon. The quotes I get for services rendered has been reasonable and far below what I would be paying for if I had chosen a Honda Dealership. Also, Jerry will tell you what services is unnecessary or can be postponed at a later time which can save you money if you are financially limited. I have had minor and major services done here for my vehicle. My car has been well taken care of since I chose Greenlight Auto Care and my 4 years of loyalty to this Auto shop speaks volumes. I don't give 5 stars to just anybody. Oh, and my second vehicle is NOT a Honda and I am very happy to have both my vehicles serviced for the same company.

    Anyhow, useful FYIs:
    1. SHARP Healthcare employees get 15% off service when you show your ID badge.
    2. Check out their website or The Reader (if they still have it) for useful coupons.
    3. Meet Frank. Sometimes he mans the front desk. He's a great reference to have when you're looking for a company who does auto window tinting services or anything auto related. I have followed up on his suggestions and was happy!

    Recommendation: HIGH

Hi, it's a day off from work. Gotta go get my car an alignment and an oil change. Let's take a trip to Kearny Mesa.

Jerry at Greenlight knows his stuff.  He's been taking care of my family's cars forever, and me since my first car at 16.

He's moved shop a couple times over the years, but I've taken my car to wherever he is, because I trust him the most.

He's not a bullshitter. If it's possible, he'll always try to cut you a deal. If it's not possible, well then it's not. But, something's gotta be right if he can prove time and time again that he's an honorable, knowledgeable mechanic to have. He can, and he is.

I live too fricken far. But, you can't have everything.

    The end.

I found Greenlight years ago on the recommendation of a guy at Jiffy Lube.  Ever since, Jerry's been taking great care of me and my car.  He always gives me a ride, no matter how far I need to go (once offered to drive me to IB for work).  One of the best things?  I've taken my car in several times and said "I think something's wrong," so they run tests and let me know when nothing shows up on the tests.  Even better?  They don't charge for it, when they could make stuff up and rip me off.  I definitely don't feel like I'm being taken advantage of by them when I go in.

One more cool thing?  Since he knows I like sports, we talk football almost every time I'm in.  He found out that I played fantasy football too and brought in his league's championship ring for last year so I could check it out.  Very cool!  Not that sports bonding is important in a mechanic, but still.

    I love Greenlight Auto!

I've been to at least 3 other places (including the Honda dealer) to get my Honda minivan serviced, but am so glad I found Greenlight.  They fixed a problem perfectly that none of the other shops could ever get right, and at a decent, fair price.

Every time I take my car to them with a suspicion something is wrong, I describe the problem, and they figure it out quickly.  If it's no big deal, they call me, describe how they're going to fix it in terms I can understand, tell me how much it will cost and upon my approval, they fix it quickly.  Always at a fair cost.  If it is a big deal (for example, one of my rear shocks is leaking slightly right now), they gave me a quote and told me that it's not urgent but we need to deal with it, which gives me time to budget for it and plan.

Our family goes on a major trip in the wintertime, about 1500 miles away in the minivan, and I always feel better knowing that Jerry and the guys at Greenlight have me covered, and at a fair price!

I come down from north county to bring my car to them and wouldn't think of going anywhere else.  I highly recommend Greenlight!

So after my incident at Evans Tires, and after getting a quote from 76 Gas Station car services, I realized I wouldn't be able to get a cheaper deal for my brakes than at Greenlight. It's a private-owned mechanics shop and the owner actually works there himself and deals with his customers. He was real nice; he did not try to sell any unnecessary services to me at all. Everything was fast and professional. I dropped my car off at 2 and it was done by 4. They close at 5 but they're open all week. I got new rotors and brake pads for a real cheap price ! Usually they cost about 400 something bucks but Greenlight was about 100 cheaper.

There is a cozy waiting area inside and two big fish tanks. I don't remember any TV but there are a lot of magazines =] Don't park anywhere outside unless it's designated for Greenlight 'cause it's real small and the other business owners come out and mad dog you.. If you have to, park sideways in front of other cars in front of Greenlight. It was a little hard to find but it's the opening right before the 94th Aero Cafe. I highly recommend this place. I haven't even heard of it if it weren't for my brother's friend but I'd definitely come back here again if I need any other repairs on my car.

    PS
Note that they only repair Honda's and Acura's !!

    PPS
Scratch that first PS note. On their website they list all the cars they fix ! Here's their website.

Jerry and his team at Greenlight Auto are the best. I went to his shop years ago when he started and stuck with him through his various moves around SD. He's finally settled in his current location for the long haul. Very centrally located off of Balboa/Convoy.

As the previous reviewer said, Jerry does know his stuff.  My previous (very old) Acura ran like new under his care and my current Honda purr's like a kitten. In addition to his technical skills (he has all the proper licenses/training/etc and I think was the head mechanic at Cush Honda/Acura in a former life) he has a lot of integrity. He's always told me honestly what work my car needed or did NOT need and when I should have it done. He's never in a rush to fix everything at once, but has a measured and practical approach.

His web site is great and appointments can be made online. I've also emailed him general questions about my car and I always received a prompt reply. He also has a price list for general car maintenance. He charges pretty average prices for labor and of course a lot less than dealerships.

He has a lot of guys here and there that work for him, but I know of one guy that his been with him since he first started. If you take your car there make sure you meet Jerry the owner and if you have any questions or concerns he's the man to go to. Always cordial and cool.

One last comment, I'm female and it's a pleasure having Jerry as my mechanic. It's definately one major stress that I don't have to worry about and I never feel intimidated or creepy at his shop. If I ever get a new car I would buy Honda or Acura just so I can keep Jerry as my mechanic.

Greenlight is the best shop for auto care in all of San Diego. They offer professional work like at dealerships. Compared to dealerships and even local shops, Greenlight provides much better pricing.

Jerry (Owner) is actually one of the mechanics of his team. He definitely has credentials and history of working previously for Honda.

This is the only shop I go to for any auto maintenance and repairs ever since I knew about them over three years ago. I believe that almost every Acura NSX in San Diego goes to Greenlight -- I usually see one being worked on at this shop when my car is being serviced, too. If you know about the NSX, I'm sure you won't trust just anyone to care a beauty like that unless it was maybe a dealership. I suppose they all trust Greenlight.

The staff is friendly and real. They will do the work that's requested and let you know of any discovered issues or potential fixes. They will also recommend another business if there is something that Greenlight does not specialize in. (Paint job, A/C, etc.)

Their new location is better. It's next to the freeway, so it's very easy to find and get there. They have a TV, couch, aquariums with a lot of fish, and there is also a deli nearby.

Definitely a Honda/Acura specialist, but bring in yours if its not, because it feels like they can work on anything.

When my radiator broke, I turned to Yelp to help me find a good auto repair business and I chose to go with Greenlight Auto Care after seeing all the good reviews.

I called Greenlight to ask about repairing my radiator and they also recommended a cheap towing company to get my car to their shop. They were professional and polite; I didn't feel like they were trying to take advantage of me by pushing unneeded services. I especially appreciated this because I'm not a cars-type of girl.

They provided me with a quote and I called my family-friend mechanic (based in OC) and he confirmed that what they proposed to do was reasonable and made sense, even if it was a bit pricier than my mechanic would have quoted. However, I would rather pay a bit more for peace of mind than try to go to the cheapest auto repair shop and have to deal with headaches later on. I would definitely go back.

Still impressed! Took my Prius there because the AC wasn't working after running over a boulder. Jerry looked it over then said it'd be best to take it to a body shop and explained why, as well as what did or did not need to be done. Even showed me the underside of the car while explaining. No charge today. My husband's still skeptical about mechanics but he's gradually coming around for Greenlight.

Well I recently took my older Honda into Greenlight for a handful of repairs (most of which i was already well aware of). I chose Greenlight due to the fact they specialize in Hondas & Acuras and thus far i have not been disappointed. The work may not be the cheapest around about its definitely better than a dealership and the quality of work is A+. Its a VERY friendly shop and they know their stuff well!! Jerry also stored my car in his garage overnight so i was able to avoid making a second trip the following day.

All in all Greenlight does quality work for fair prices. I would feel extremely confident taking your Honda or Acura to them.

    Thanks Jerry!
    -Anthony (94 Accord)

if you own an NSX there are very few shops in town experienced enough to take on extensive repairs and Greenlight is a notch above the rest.  I had my engine removed and completely serviced the right way by Jerry at Greenlight.  His vast NSX knowledge gave me  confidence as a customer that the job would be done correctly where my last shop failed me.   Take your NSX to Greenlight you won't walk away disappointed or ripped off. If you have question about my experience here I can personally answer them by phone email me at  lancegregory@gmail.com to get connected.

Went back for my 4th or so time and am still impressed by the service of Jerry and his team.  They are trustworthy and fair...and their new location is probably the only auto shop around with a big fish tank! Nice touch!

Also, there's a great deli right around the corner, Unique Deli, that Jerry recommended.  I had a delicious breakfast burrito while my car got fixed.  Awesome!

I found Greenlight Honda on Yelp, and I've been satisfied with Jerry's service (been going since Dec 2008). Here, you don't get the cheapest price, but you do get quality work at cheaper-than-dealer prices. I've had a major tune-up done here, oil changes, and fuel injection cleaning.

I usually I ask Jerry why I sometimes see cheaper options offered elsewhere, and he breaks it down for me based on what the others do, and what he does. I'd rather have peace of mind and quality.

Today he replaced my signal relay circuit - no charge on labor!

Oh, and you can follow Green Light on Twitter (Jerry just started trying it out):

    Hi,

Years ago I took my 1999 Honda CR-V to this place. I spoke with the owner about the strange noise from the underside of my car when making tight turns, which was getting progressively more pronounced.

He said he had no idea what it was, but wanted me to leave the car for a day, possibly overnight, so he could take apart the drive-shaft and find out if it was the front or rear differential. That was a bit too much for me to decide at the time, so I left with my car.

Later, at home, I started doing research online and discovered that it was a common Honda problem; simply the rear differential oil gone bad. So, for a mere $14 I bought the oil and replaced it myself. Horrible grinding noise...GONE!

I really hate to think of what he would have ended up charging a "naive" little lady like myself. And, if he truly didn't know what it was, and they call themselves a Honda specialty shop, then it still makes me disappointed.

My husband and I took our 2006 Toyota Rav 4 to Greenlight for brake service and an oil change. They were great about calling us with estimates and updates for when our car would be ready to be picked up. The final cost was actually lower than what we expected and what the estimate was which was a pleasant surprise. Will definitely go back.

I randomly discovered this little gem about seven years ago. Until I started going to Greenlight the only person whose auto advice I wholeheartedly trusted was my dad's. Jerry and his team restored my faith in auto repair and saved my college-sized bank account some serious dough. His team is professional, straightforward and trustworthy. My car at the time was a '92 Integra that I had almost run into the ground, and thanks to Jerry it became the lil' engine that could. I've since traded in that Acura. Now that the warranty on my new car is up, when the time comes I fully plan on revisiting Greenlight for my auto repair needs. For all the ladies out there who aren't car savvy: You can rest assured that Greenlight will only reccommend repairs and maintenance because it's necessary, not because you may not know any better. (I'm just sayin'.)

Just came in to get my breaklight fixed. I tried chaning the bulb myself and checking the fuse, and it still didn't work.  Had Greenlight take a look and they had it working in 20 minutes.  And the best part, FREE of charge! Cool guys over here!

I found Greenlight Auto Care through google/yelp when I was looking for someone who works specifically on Accuras. I have not been disappointed at all - I feel 100% confident taking my car here! I don't know much about cars, and Jerry (the owner) is so great about breaking it down in a way that makes sense to me and explaining the different options and making recommendations.

I actually took my car somewhere else recently (in an emergency situation), but I called Jerry to get a second opinion. When I told him what they had quoted me, he explained why they were not giving me the best option and what he would do differently. I took it to him instead, and even though it ended up costing about the same, the labor was about HALF of what the other shop quoted me - he just put a better quality part in my car.

I have an older car, and he also helped break down what things need to be done now, and what things I can hold off on. He was really upfront about some oil leaks, explaining that I don't "have" to fix them, but that if I don't I should come in periodically and get the oil checked. He even said he would text me a reminder!

I really feel like my car is in good hands, and that Jerry is an honest guy who you can trust. If you have a Honda or Accura I definitely recommend Greenlight Auto Care!

Good honest company - checked my car and told me I could wait to have the breaks done.  I'll definitely go back for my car's next tune up.

Only been in once, but it's a great shop.  Very reasonable prices, won't try to sell you anything you don't need, quick, and friendly.  Highly recommend!

We've been taking our Hondas and Acuras to Jerry and Bryan forever (at least the past 6-7 or so years?) and we will take our cars to NO ONE ELSE. They are honest and will tell you what you need now and what you can put off for a while and have prices about 1/2 to 2/3 of what the dealer charges + Jerry and Bryan do either equal or even higher quality work. We've only taken our 2 NSXs to Jerry because he's gotten high recommendations from other owners. They treat all cars like they are high end and can do anything and everything. They also do other makes and models (although Hondas are the best ;p). If you want to rest assured that your car is in good hands and won't be charged an arm and a leg, take your car to Greenlight.

I usually take care of repairing my own car, however doing a timing belt on my 02 Acura TL didnt look like fun so I had these guys do it. Finished faster than expected and the car runs perfectly. Ill be taking the wifes 03 CRV here soon as well.

Researched the internet and found Greenlight couple of years ago.  I took my rsx here when I was a ucsd student and I totally recommend this shop.  They don't rip you off and they get the job done correctly.  What more could you want from a car shop?
