I love the Greener Cleaners - the dry cleaning is great and doesn't have that chemical smell. I know that I am getting clean clothing but it's done in a way that's better for my health and more environmentally friendly.
I like the location- my husband will pick up our cleaning on his way home from the L. Or, if we need to drop off or pick up, there is a loading zone right in front of the store. Very convenient.
Prices are reasonable and I really love that they are set in stone. My former cleaners seemed to change the prices every time we went in and things got more and more expensive. Ditto for the alterations.
If you sign up for emails, or for their special program, you get coupons. Wonderful!!! If you pre-pay and pay with cash, you get 20% off.
I am a huge fan of the Greener Cleaners! Top notch!
Really not too satisfied with my drycleaning, which is a bummer, because I would always rather support green businesses. I had a Groupon for Greener Cleaner, so I gave it a shot. All of my drycleaning came out excessively static-y. The lovely underarm spots on my silk dress did not come out, and I had to pick lint off another blouse.
Boo!
Man, too bad. The customer service was great, though!
I have a small cleaners in my building, but they don't do the best job. Usually take shirts and pants in need of pressing, not anything needing more care (learned the hard way after botching an 'easy' hem job).
I've been using the Greener Cleaner over the years, as it's right under the Blue Line at Damen, so I can easily jump off and drop off / pick up on my way to work downtown or home to Logan Square.
Mostly I take difficult stuff here. I've brought two silk dresses here in the last 4 months, both with stains, and they've done wonders. The first dress had hand lotion splatted all over the front (complete photo booth debacle, straight out of candid camera!), and it was a pretty raw silk. Looks good to the untrained eye. The other was more recent, a BCBG floral silk dress that had some beer spilled on the side; I tried to blot with water, only creating larger visible spots. This one looks great, no traces of stain at all, and ready to go for another event.
I like supporting the environment and all, but holey cow this place is expensive. The last time I went there they wanted to charge me $28.50 for two mens shirts, two womens slacks and two sweaters. I said no thank you and took my stuff to Hollywood Cleaners two blocks away on Milwaukee. The same batch of stuff cost me $16.50. I expect a mark up, but not a 60% mark up. Yikes. I think they call this place Green Cleaner because it cleans out all the greenbacks in your wallet. Last time i go there...
I really want to like these guys, because I can't stand the environmental and health impacts of regular dry cleaning chemicals. However, they've messed up every single order I've placed with them -- pickups are late or missed, deliveries are late, repairs aren't made, the bag I've requested three times hasn't ever been provided...I don't know what the problem is, but I am not sure I'll ever send clothes to them again. At some point, it just isn't worth it.
This place is expensive, no doubt. I only take delicate items and my comforter (no icky dry cleaning smell) to be cleaned here. They always take good care of my clothes. The counter staff are not the brightest or the friendliest. I am convinced the smoke the green stuff while working. Overall, this place is ok, but they do a pretty good job and keeping my expensive clothes in good shape. Until I find a better alternative, I will still use them.
Cashmere, wool rugs, afghans, dresses, work shirts...they have done it all for me, well, and I love them for it. I feel better about supporting this more sustainable and "clean" business than the cheaper cleaner on the corner by my place.
Everything I've left at the Greener Cleaner I've picked up in perfect condition, and I love it that they mend my seams and send me coupons!
The Greener Cleaner provides great, perc-free dry cleaning. Their delivery service is very convenient and my clothes come back smelling great and not like they were rolled in a barrel of chemicals! However, the price with delivery is a bit more expensive than normal....but I'm willing to pay a little more to feel like I'm not wearing something toxic next to my skin!
My limited interaction with the staff wasn't fantastic (I was trying to track down a missing sweater. It did surface.). They weren't super helpful or friendly. But the service they provide is great and is better for both me and the environment than traditional dry cleaning.
I am trying on my clothes. I will wear white pants, and walk through mud. I will, without fail, get food somewhere on my clothes. I have gotten my pedal pushers stuck in my bike crank, and torn them to kingdom come.
And without fail, Greener Cleaner will make my pants white again, with no sense of mud. The food stains are gone. And they fixed the pants back to brand new.
The staff is courteous, and will greet you by name if you become a regular. I even had one take my clothes in the other day while she was on her smoke break... and she totally didn't have to do that. It was just nice.
They don't really do 'overnight' stuff, so you do have to plan in advance.
Another nice feature is a 5% discount for paying in cash. They recycle hangers, but not the plastic bags due to being unable to find someone to take them. If you join their little club for $5 you get a bag and additional discount. And I'll be honest, they're almost as cheap, if not cheaper, than traditional cleaners.
And I just was doing it because I'm a tree-hugger.
Guilt-reduced dry cleaning but at a hefty price--both literally and figuratively. The literal price is obvious ($$), while the figurative price is having to interact with the super bitchy employees. The woman working this morning perfectly embodies the overall Greener Cleaner staff attitude: smug, sneering, and openly resentful. On the other hand, I might be resentful too if I had to handle yuppies' waded up JCrew sweaters and Prada pants at 6:30 in the morning.
The Greener Cleaner is a great alternative to traditional dry cleaning because they use wet cleaning technology to professionally clean dry clean only clothes without hazardous dry cleaning chemicals.
I've found that wet cleaning results are just as good if not better than traditional dry cleaning and it's gentler on your clothes, your health, and the environment. My clothes always come back impeccably pressed, clean, and they don't smell like chemicals. I've also had good luck with alterations and repairs. Prices are comparable to other traditional cleaners too.
They also have a 24-hour drop box, so you can drop off clothes after hours or avoid waiting in line. They even give you a pre-labeled bag for free when you give them your info.
Greener Cleaner is my new dry cleaner. They are expensive, but unlike some other places, they actually clean your clothes! gasp!! I have taken too many items to other cleaners (to be named in other reviews), pointed out spots, identified stains and given instructions only to have them come back to me with the same spot. I then took the item to Greener Cleaner & the spot was gone. Other cleaners have ruined some of my finace's pants, so I think he is ready to chalk up the money & join me at Greener Cleaner (I pay anyway, so what does he care?). They have lots of coupons, anyway. Time it right & it's not so bad. Plus--your clothes don't smell like nasty chemicals which is always a plus.
This is the best dry cleaner in the city for many reasons. My clothes always come back well-cleaned and pressed, and don't smell like chemicals. I don't have to worry about carcinogens on my shirts or in my closet (or in the air surrounding the dry cleaner itself).
The drop-off bag is really handy, and I love their pick-up and delivery service (which you can schedule online, also nice). For a nominal fee, I don't have to leave my house for my clothes to be cleaned. They recycle all of the packaging that they put your clothes in (i.e. plastic bags, hangars, and paper cover thingies). And hey, it supports a great non-profit, the Center for Neighborhood Technology.
There are four locations throughout the north side, so if you want to avoid Damen/Milwaukee/North ("The Crotch"), you can. Or just use the pick-up and delivery service and you'll never notice the extra cost.
You might be asking yourself: is Greener Cleaner right for me? Where would Al Gore take his clothes? Will my clothes stay pressed in my hummer?
I think it's terrific that someone decided to put a green spin on such a traditional service. I'm not trying to save the world, but if something "green" is relatively comparable to the standard alternative, then why not? In the case of Greener Cleaner, it's about the same price, and they do a fine job.
Note: you negate your good karma gained if you drive up Damen at 5:00 and sit in traffic to pick up your clothes.
Having lived in the neighborhood for some time, I grew weary of dragging my clothes to Lakeview to be cleaned and decided to try out this place. Upon walking in the young lady was extremely friendly and nice helping me sign up for a lot of promotions to save money on my first purchase - big plus! I was about to walk out feeling confident in this place before the older woman working there proceeded to berat me about how American's are spoiled and have no values. This struck me as very strange as she continued to direct these comments to me in a very aggresive manner. I just want to say if anyone from this store reads this, that if you have not noticed your store is in America and if you want American' customers best not to insult them. Didn't realize being a privalaged country was such a crime, I just wanted to have my shirts cleaned in my neighborhood and support local business. But if you don't like America please learn a little bit about what we Americans provide best - CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Yay. I love this place.
I've been taking all my dry cleaning here for about a year and love the fact that my clothes never come back smelling like a chemistry experiment. They're pricier than the dry cleaners down the street from me but I think the premium is worth it. They've been able to get rid of tough stains and yellowing from my stuff too. My huge down comforter came back awesome but if you do bring a comforter here be prepared to wait a week or two for it come back.
I like the fact that my clothes are not being attacked by chemicals while getting cleaned, but I do not like the fact that the shrunk a couple of our sweaters. They are also a bit pricey. I have to dry clean every two weeks and it does become quite expensive. I go there sometimes, but there is another cleaner closer to my house so if I have a ton of stuff I take my stuff there.
I am thinking about filing a discriminatory hiring practices suit against this place, because apparently, they only hire incredibly attractive women. I hear they're really stuck up though... Although the few times I've been in there, they have been extremely friendly to me. Maybe because I was paying like $20 to get my suit dry cleaned... Yeah, that's right, I have a suit. Who would have guessed?
This place doesn't cost any more than "regular" cleaners AND they do a kick-arse job on everything I've taken there so far. I took a throw rug there and I swear it came back looking more vibrant than when I bought it! My coverlet...ditto. When you first go there you fill out a form about if you want starch and all that....feel free to then drop things off in the bag they provide and roll without a problem because - what a concept - they actually remember and follow the instructions you first gave them.
I am a bit of a 'green' freak and so I love this idea of a 'greener cleaner'. The prices are a bit higher, but I tend to always find a coupon (always check their website) that counteracts. One time my dress didn't come back with the rest of my items and the lady did not seem to care and said she would 'locate it'. They did 'find it' within a week. I was a bit surprised with how they handled this situation, esp. what if I had needed that dress? Because of this situation, the lady recognized me the next time I was there- and it is always nice to be recognized somewhere that you frequent. If this place was not 'green', I wouldn't go though. Finding a spot to stash your car to run in can be quite difficult - and the intersection location is horrible for driving. A plus is if you ride the train- it is right there.
Alas, I keep going back - for our environment and peace of mind for myself.
Quick, cheap, efficient and keeps chemicals off my clothes...couldn't ask for more.
Being I have asthma, the chemicals from traditional dry cleaners don't do well for me, so I really, really loved the concept of this place. But they don't execute. We dropped off some couch cushion covers, as well as a few of my dress shirts.
We needed the couch covers back soon as we were having company over, and asked them if they would be finished in time for the event. They said no problem, the date we asked for was past when they should have finished. Day of the event, we called. Nothing was ready - they said they were clean, but stuck at their processing plant, and suggested that we drive out there to get them ourselves. We couldn't, and I might add, shouldn't have to. Very embarassing to have to cancel a dinner because your couch looks like you picked it up in the alley somewhere. So the next day we tried again - still not ready. Finally, on the third attempt, we got it back, but minus those funny little armrest cover things. Those came back about a week later. They got "misplaced" at the plant.
The shirts were an equal disaster. We picked them up on time, which was great, but noticed they looked smallish, so I tried them on. Sure enough, the sleeves were WAY too short, the collar wouldn't button around and it came up around the top of my pants no room to tuck in. We called, they said this "happens sometimes" and offered to "stretch" it for us. We said they had to be ready for a job interview - they said that would be fine. Good thing my girlfriend went out and got a new one for me, predicting disaster. We picked it up after the job interview (as they were not done in time). Then we got it, and it still didn't fit.
The customer service was awful too - they refunded part of the original bill, which was very expensive, and kept giving us coupons for the future, so they could have a second chance at ruining our dinner parties and job opportunities. Fantastic.
recently they got a deep stain out of my favorite shirt and jeans.
i've been going there for years because my clothes come back clean and don't smell weird from cleansers. it's a bit more but it's worth it to me because it's so much better for my health vs. all those cleaners that use perc - which i found out is a known carcinogen.
overall they consistently do a great job . i like 'em
