It does suck that you have to pay by the pound to recycle your old electronics (except for monitors) but I feel like I am somehow doing my part to save the world doing it. I work right down the street and we had  a ton of old electrical equipment and brought it there. The gentleman helped us load up the carts and wheel it in and was very friendly and gracious. We have done this 3 times in the past year and have already started another box here in the office to recycle again. I highly recommend bringing your old electronics/computer equipment here, pay the fee and feel good about yourself for the rest of your life!

What a great service!  I recycled my old DVD player today for only $5 and a few old cell phones and used batteries for free.

They recycle so many electronics and "anything that plugs into the wall" essentially except for large appliances like refrigerators.  They do recycle old microwaves though!

They have set prices on certain things, but if you want to get rid of your old electronics in the greenest way possible, come here!

It's time to do my part to recycle and help save this Earth!

This green company recycles old computers, hard drives, monitors, TVs, keyboards, and anything else electronic or have components. I believe they resell stuff for Environmental and charitable organizations.

My only beef with them, is that they CHARGE! It cost me $16 to give them my old computer, monitor, and keyboard. They weighed it, so I'm assuming the more you recycle, the more it costs you! I know what you're thinking, why didn't I just leave the stuff on their door steps in the middle of the night? Well, they have several security cameras and signage NOT TO DROP stuff off without going through their drop off process. Doh!

Here is some background on eWaste recycling.

The California Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003 (SB20/SB50 found at http://www.ciwmb.ca.go...
) sets up a "deposit" on electronic waste, similar to CRV on bottles and cans.  Collectors are paid per pound on a set schedule for the waste they recover (read: accept from the public)

Additionally, GreenCitizen is only a collector (http://www.ciwmb.ca.go...) of the material.  They contract and receive money from the material that customers pay to drop off.

I'm aware of GreenCitizen, but as Maryanne states, I take my e-waste to non-profit events, which partner with other collectors/recyclers and receive a portion of the proceeds.
