Best BOBA I have ever had!
I am usually not a huge fan of the tapioca balls but this place is my exception. The Green Tea Latte Freeze with "pearls" or BOBA has been one of my favorite treats since high school! There are tons of yummy flavors to choose from but I usually stick to the original green tea because it just hits the spot every time. If you're from the area look around the walls at all the customer pictures, you're bound to spot a familiar face or two! Parking can be tricky but there are usually a few spots behind the bank directly across the street. Enjoy!
*CASH ONLY*
CASH ONLY
that is the only down side.
I think this is the best BOBA in Walnut Creek. They have all the flavors you'd usually find at other places, average in price $3-$4 for the teas, drinks come in two sizes. They have blended, hot, and iced: all their flavors are good! I would know, I have tried 30 of them.
My favorites are the iced milk teas, or blended mocha.
They serve some yummy fried foods too. Perfect for a snack break while shopping in Walnut Creek.
The BEST THING: you can get as many tapioca pearls as you want! Seriously?! Yes!!
I miss my Green Tea Latte's!!! Blended Cantalope, Taro, Coffee, Watermelon, Almond Milk, etc... the list just keeps on going!!! Try one, you won't be disappointed!
*For the non-Asians, don't be frighten by those odd looking "large balls" floating in your drink. It's tapioca! Makes the drink fun, brings texture, it's BOBA!
Love the Green Tea Cafe! I was so excited when they first opened. Walnut Creek so needed a boba tea place!!! Green Tea Cafe beats Quickly's any day! Not commercialized! Not cartoony!
Awesome selection of flavors and daily specials. They have WiFi and their own parking spots for customers! You can't get that in Downtown WC. Friendly service, great place to kick-it, and enjoy your boba inside the cafe or outside.
Since I've moved out of the East Bay, I always try to stop by and get my Green Tea Cafe fix. 2 more stamps to go on my frequent boba card!!!
I loved this place, but it was somewhat expensive and they only take cash. I am not sure, but I think they are out of business. :(
GREEN TEA CAFE, WHY DID YOU SHUT DOWN?
Green Tea Cafe made the best pearl drinks in the East Bay. Today, I went to go get a drink and found everything torn apart and shut down. There was no note on the door, but next door at Babalou's, they said, "the owner left."
What that means, I don't know. I truly don't know where I will go for boba now. :'[

Before I wanted to drop into Walnut Creek yesterday just to check this place out I read the reviews it got on Yelp and decided to try the Black Milk Tea recommended by fellow Yelpeteer Diana T. And my friend got the Kiwi Freeze with Baby Pearls.
If this place wasn't out of the way from my usual route, I would come here for their Kiwi drinks all the time!
I really enjoyed the flavor of my Black Milk Tea but I ended up never tasted anything as saccharine as their Kiwi Freeze. I had to walk back inside and get one just for myself!
I just found my new obession: a large ginger green tea boba @ Green Tea Cafe! Wow - I never thought I could get decent boba on this side of the bay...I *frequently* get my boba fix in Ten Ren or J&S on the other side of the east bay.
The tea was very nice (mild steep) and their tapioca was very fresh. The service was a little slow but they were very nice. And for good boba like this it is worth the wait!
Interested in something light and refreshing during the hotter months? Try the Honey Green Tea with tapioca pearls! I'm a big fan of anything that combines flavor and freshness. Finding a good boba place is tough, especially when there aren't very many in WC.
"Cash Only" was kind of tough since I never carry cash, but Scotts Valley Bank has an ATM right across the street for easy access.
Green Tea Cafe is one of my favorite boba places. Their drinks are well prepared and delicious and the single bathroom is very sanitary. The service is mediocre but worth the wait! Plus the workers are very friendly (:
I usually order the Black milk tea which is my favorite so far. I've also tried the Green Tea Latte Freeze with boba and lychee jelly and the Passion Fruit Green Tea Freeze which are all very good. I ALWAYS order with boba! ;] I plan to try their entire menu but that's far into the future. Another thing i like about them is that they are located near my school so I can easily walk after school to grab a drink. They also have a photo wall of people drinking a type of Green Tea beverage which i find quite interesting. I'm not sure how to have your photo put up but you should just ask!
Overall, anyone in the Walnut Creek area should stop by and try this place! You'll definitely love it (:
I'm so sad... no more green tea cafe. I talked to the landlord when he was chaining the doors and he said he doesnt know why but when their lease was up.. they just decided not to rent anymore. I hope they turn up somewhere else... So sad D:
Having just moved to Walnut Creek only a couple weeks ago, my boyfriend and I set out to find a new boba tea spot. We fell in love with Lollicup in Gainesville, FL and were quite sad to see there wasn't one anywhere around here.
We tried out Green Tea Cafe one night after dinner downtown. I think my boyfriend had a taro milk tea and I had one of the flavored green teas. Perhaps it's silly, but it was a little weird receiving boba tea with a simple plastic lid. I guess I'm just used to having the sealed lid with a cute character on it? Oh well, no biggie.
I was ok with mine, but my boyfriend didn't like his that much. He said the flavor was off with the taro and the tapioca was way sweeter than he'd ever had before.
Cash only is pretty lame too, as I never seem to have much cash on me, but the price for the drinks themselves wasn't bad at all. We'd probably only go back if we were already downtown doing something else and had a really bad craving, though. Otherwise, we'd just go to Concord and hit up Quickly (which we tried about a week after this place and loved).
I remember reading my friends review of this place a while back and I've been wanting to check it out ever since. I'm always up for trying new tapioca places! Since my family and I were passing through Walnut Creek, we decided to stop by. Parking was kind of hard to find since it's located downtown but supposedly they have a free parking lot (there's a picture inside the store on where exactly to park).
They have a huge selection of drinks! Of course I had to try something with green tea. We ordered a hot milk tea, hot green milk tea (latte), and a green mango freeze - all with boba. My favs outta those were the ones with the green tea. The boba wasn't too soft but it was flavorful.
My boyfriend wanted to try the snacks there but they said they weren't serving at that time...weird. Anyways, I'm definitely going to come back to try other drinks if I'm ever in town.
Bumpin' this up to four stars after having come here everyday for the past three days. I am addicted to the tapioca pearl alternatives (after being convinced the pearls stop-up a certain digestive function): lychee, coffee, and mango jelly's (read: agar).
I recommend the coconut milk tea with lychee jelly...or the coconut milk (no tea) with coffee jelly. Plus they have their own parking spaces next to the abandoned restaurant across the street. Yay!

I'm into the taro milk tea. Make sure you specify if you want hot or cold. I walked out with a… Read more »
Considering there are not many other options for bubble tea in this area, this is a pretty solid place. I've been coming hear regularly for three years now. I am obsessed with almond milk tea, so despite my attempts to try anything else here, I always end up walking out of there with almond milk tea, cold or hot depending on the weather.
I personally do not prefer the tapioca pearls. I usually order them without because I prefer to fill up that volume of space with more almond milk tea.
Additional pluses is that there isn't usually a long wait, free wifi, and free 30 minute parking across the street. They also have a buy 10 get 1 free card. Who doesn't love a free bubble tea?
OMG !!! Love thier MANGO GREEN TEA FREEZE ^ ^
Yummy~! ahahha best boba place in walnut creek!!!
ahaha didn't even know this place existed till
my friend Jason took me here haha
Gotta give it a shot guys !!
I tried the lechee green tea slushy with boba. One of the better ones for flavor ,but the boba was inconsistent, some were soft and some were hardish.
My kid had the mango slushy. He liked it.
Yes, Tapioca Pearls PLEASE!
Love this place! If you like those Tapioca Pearl milk teas or smoothies too, you have to try this place! You'll be hooked! They offer a punch card for frequent visits for a free drink!
To all those ignorant folks, those brown floating "balls" in the cup, it's just tapioca pearls in a smoothie. Get over it! Try it! It won't bite.
For the Asian Folks, this place is better than Quickly's or Tapioca Express!
after visiting green tea cafe for the first time yesterday, i am still in awe over how great my passion fruit green tea + mango jelly was and in denial that my boba cup is now empty and that i'm 57 miles away. (;_;)
i was a little disoriented that there was no chinese menu, no blaring chinese music videos on plasma screens, no crazy items like milo or wheat germ milk tea, but i think the serenity is a good thing. and though the drink took 5 min to prepare, it makes me think they took more care in making it than simply siphoning it out of some pre-mixed vat of sucrose and creamer. the tea really tastes like tea! and the fruit flavors actually taste like fruit! (instead of something overly sweet and artificial) in a land dotted with boba places that primarily have black tea as a base, i'm in love with the concept and numerous options they have at green tea cafe
and did i mention they're not a chain?? but that also makes me sad because there's only one place. maybe i should mark my calendar for another visit soon...and throw away the empty boba cup on my table before it sprouts a furry colony.
Green Tea Cafe is a great find for Boba in the far east bay. I discovered bubble tea when I was at Cal and always missed having it when I wasn't in Berkeley or SF. I discovered Green Tea by searching for boba in Walnut Creek and I am glad they are there! I usually get the milk teas with pearls, and really like that they have the option of non-fat milk for the tea. The staff is pretty friendly and fast, and they finally have a few parking spaces [in the bank parking lot, facing the restaurant, it says "reserved for Green Tea Cafe patrons." ] Check it out if you like bubble tea!
One of the best places to go for pearl drinks in the area especially during the summer. Their Lychee Mango and Almond Milk Tea are great! Plus, they don't charge you extra for the tapioca pearls or mango jelly.
The only downside is that they only accept cash, it would've been nice if they accept credit cards. But overall, still a great place to go and the drinks are better than most boba places nearby.
Solid Boba place. Friendly staff. Relatively decent price, but then again, it's in WC so... can't expect Berkeley or Clairemont (San Diego) prices...
Nice decor inside, clean, makes you feel like you're getting a quality product.
Maybe this has changed since I was last there, but they didn't accept credit cards/debit cards... that's a minus...
Give it a try, I'm missing boba right now, and would LOVE a Green Tea Cafe drink, living in Germany makes you certainly appreciate a lot of things.
Love this place and have been coming here since it opened! I'm so glad there's a place like this is Walnut Creek....the drinks are so yummy, large selection to choose from, friendly service, just an overall nice place...I always get the peach green tea freeze :) Only down side is I'm almost positive it's cash only still.
I tried a RedBean Icee with tapioca. Pretty nasty stuff. Tasted like liquid cotton candy. They say you can ask for less sweet, but even so, the taste would have been bad. They do not even have the proper adhesive lids.
Its a nicer decor than most bubble tea places, but I would rather have greasy formica and great taste than nice wood and this crap. Once again, Asian cuisine dumbed down for white people like me, man I hate that! Give us a chance to experience the authentic stuff before you decide we won't like it.
All-in-all not impressed. I will continue to drive to Berkeley or Milpitas for my Pearl Tea needs.
Everytime I am in Downtown Walnut Creek I have to stop here! They make the Best Boba tea in the area. The people are very nice , its in a good spot the only down side is that they are cash only.My favorites are the Strawberry Green Tea with Tapioca pearls , and the Jasmine Milk Tea ...YUM!
Boba tea?
In Walnut Creek?
thank god.
I was very VERY happy when GTC first opened about two years ago, because I had been waiting for ANYTHING more ethnic than an egg roll to open up in SuperSuburbia (yes, I grew up and live in San Francisco, so working in Walnut Creek is like working in Minnesota as far as I'm concerned) In fact in the first two weeks they were open, I had already filled up my card (the obligatory, buy 10 drinks-the last one is free).
First and foremost-the cashiers & workers are mostly young hip dudes (and the occasional young woman) who are really REALLY nice and unpretentious. They'll make your drink any way you want it: hot, cold, no ice, sweetened or not, 1/2 soy etc. and not give you attitude for it. It is also one of the few boba shops I've ever gone to that gives you the option of having the green tea freeze. It's not icy like a slurpee or too thick-it's almost creamy. I spent a lot of the winter here too, getting hot almond tea or the regular cha-and those drinks really made my day.
Prices are a little higher here, but as they're pretty much sitting on a commodity, I don't really mind that I don't have a choice. Haven't tried any of the snacks or the avocado shake that's being offered right now. Maybe I will next week.
Plus, I like being the girl walking down the street with the tasty green drink and sucking weird looking gelatinous balls out of it.
Why? I don't know why.
I was driving around with my 3 kids (yes, all three) and en route to the park, I decided to stop and get them a snack. For some reason, I remembered Jennifer P's "Boba" list and that I was surprised there was a bubble tea place in Walnut Creek. Personally, I don't get the whole "sucking small sticky black balls through a straw" thing, but I figured what the heck, let's have a unique cultural experience.
Here's a recap:
"What is that?"
"Eeww."
"Ick."
"Blaahh."
Fine, I ordered for them. Coconut milk for my 7 year old, mango tea for the 5 year old, and a black milk tea for me. For fun, I ordered a couple of the japanese bean cakes and discovered that yes, there IS something that my 1 year old will not eat!
Conclusion:
- Both girls liked the coconut milk tea, and I had to go back and order one for my 5 year old, who hated the mango tea.
- Neither was big on the pearls.
But you didn't come here to read about my kids, right? Green Tea Cafe seems to serve an authentic product to its target market, which certainly isn't clueless caucasians like me! They did however run out of pearls, much to the dismay of every customer who came in after us.
I randomly found this place while driving around in the area with the hubs. I made him stop abruptly and drop me off to get drinks! There is a lot to choose from here, a lot of teas, slushies, coffee drinks and milk teas... and boba and jellies are complimentary in your drinks! They also offer a little snack menu here as well! There is seating inside and you can enjoy your drink in their quiet atmosphere. I ended up getting a lychee mango slushy and the hubby a mocha blended slushy. The drinks were good and the tapioca balls were fresh but became hard in the middle as they sat in the drink. My one big plus about this place is they give u the cups with real lids and not that wrap on top, because I am dumb and I can't poke my straw in there correctly without having my drink spill everywhere in the process! lol. I will definitely come back to try some of their infused tea drinks and milk teas :)
who says that i only give good reviews for things in hawai`i?! pssh! so untrue! =P
this past weekend i went to three boba places in concord and pleasant hill and guess what! they all ran out of pearls. i was pretty pissed off when i decided to take my chances and see if Green Tea Cafe still had some (thanks to all you lovely folks who recommended this place).
To my amazement, the tapioca place had tapioca pearls! Yay! They were so kind to me and hooked me up with the best hot milk tea i've ever had.
So there. A well deserved five-star review for a place in Walnut Creek.! Yay me! ;)
My fave boba place in the east bay! I can't get enough of their watermelon slush with lychee jelly! Best way to weather the summer heat!
I really liked this place. The people behind the counter are friendly. I've only had the milk teas, and they're really good. Its not too sweet, but not too bland. The tapioca pearls seem fresh as well. Over all a great place, and the only place in Walnut Creek to get a boba drink. For those who go and can't find street parking, they have a few parking spots in the back of the bank parking lot.
I like this place a lot. a lot of choices from fruit smoothies to Boba's. I like the Green Tea Freeze with Tapoica Pearls. very good drink. The Taro root drink is also great. I like that they also provide free of charge WI-FI and have magazines to browse through. No bathrooms, so watch out.
Very good place for tapicoa. Clean and friendly staff. Only downside is they don't accept credit cards (not sure if they are now) Definitely worth trying!
BEST BOBA or PEARL DRINKS in town!!! I have had pearl drinks in SF, Oakland, Concord, PH, Pacheco... The pearls are the freshest. There are lots of choices and they have a frequent buyer card. There is a place in Oakland on 9th street that is better, with even more, but if you live on this side of the tunnel, this is definitely the best place to go. And, when you buy 10 you get one free. It doesn't get much better than that!
I give it 5 stars for my all time favorite - green tea latte freeze. Great green tea flavor with a touch of sweetness and perfect on a warm day. Try it with soy and boba of course! I much prefer it over Starbucks green tea frapp.
I can not comment much on the other offerings. I tend not to like things too sweet which is wy the GTLF is the best!
I keep trying it whenever I get my cravings for pearl drinks and I've ended up disappointed every time. The drinks don't taste right. The pearls are the wrong texture. They did have a good salt and pepper chicken snack.
Despite the reviews I have read here from others, I continue to go here anytime I am walking by. While I have tried a ton of various boba places in the bay area, I have always been very pleased with Green Tea Cafe. Given I haven't tried many of the drinks on their list. I usually stick with the pretty basic milk teas and every now and again I will try one of their slush freeze things. I have never been disappointed.
we try to find any excuse to go to walnut creek JUST to get a pearl drink from there. green tea latte with pearls is made fresh--none of that nasty powder drink mix found at other BOBA drink places.
Now that I'm working in downtown Walnut Creek I've found that there are a few things that I miss from when I was working in downtown Oakland - a good pearl tapioca drink place for example. In Oakland I was lucky enough to be within walking distance of The Sweet Booth. Here in Walnut Creek, however, I've only been able to find this place so far, and I have to say that I'm a little disappointed (although I guess I should feel lucky that I can get boba drinks in The Creek at all). This place seems nice enough and the staff is very friendly, but their drinks seem a little bit sub par. To be perfectly honest, one of my biggest gripes is that they don't carry my favorite type of fruit: papaya. But even discounting that, some of their fruit drinks seem more syrupy than fruity, and their menu seems a bit odd as it lacks many fruit drinks that include milk. On the plus side: they have a few free parking spaces in the lot across the street, they have free wireless internet, and they have a limited Asian snack menu (fish balls, pot stickers, spring rolls, etc.).
best place besides driving to oakland or SF. the juice, milk fresh customer service friendly and fast and the tapioca is cooked all the way not lik some places where its half cooked.... sometimes I drive all the way there just for a tea and then downtown for some shopping... awesome!
