Just had the breakfast burrito with charizo. Plenty of meat and perfect size for breakfast or lunch.
The place is clean, and the line to order goes fast. Parking sucks, but that's expected.

So a friend of mine recomended that we try this place after hearing good things from some of our friends.  I love papalote and so I had a hard time giving into another mexican restaurant in the same neighborhood.

I had a niman ranch chicken burrito and it was fucking amazing!  The chips were delicious and the burrito had amazing flavor to it.  I must admit it was very healthy and filling.

Minus 1 star for the hot chili giving me the shits.

Two dollar pacifico everyday!

So our living room window looks directly into the Green Chile Kitchen... that might be one reason we go there often.  But the cheap beer and delicious southwest food keep us coming back.

Everytime I take our dogs for a walk, they try with all their might to walk through the open door, drawn by the yummy smell of rotisserie chickens wafting out to greet us.

The half chicken meal is alot of food for the money. The hubby and I can share it.  Nachos are good but a little expensive for what you get, in my opinion.  Overall, I love it.

The staff rocks too.

Whenever super nachos are offered on any menu, you must always get them. Why would you want rice, beans, even mashed potatoes on the side of your rotisserie chicken when you can have nachos? Everything I tried was good, especially the posole. Since it's in Aaron's hood and he intro'ed me to the place, I think I can safely say Green Chile Kitchen, mmmmmmmmmm!!!!!

I LOVE GREEN CHILE!
Quality of product is something Green Chile takes very seriously. I've never had anything be less than fresh and tasty. New Mexican cuisine done right! They lose a star because it is a bit pricey and sometimes very slow. But when I'm in the mood for some beans and rice and Niman Ranch Pork and Chicken I'll pay and wait. They've become a staple for me, at least twice a week, and a handful of other locals too. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

I love curbside delivery service! So nice not to have to find parking when you're solo. Got the posole the other night and it was pretty good. Interested in trying more items. With the convenience of curbside delivery I definitely will. :-)

OK, so my subsequent experiences were MUCH better than my original review. Perhaps they were just having an off day on my first visit, because I went back and both food and service were tremendously improved.

I have passed this place a million times, I usually go to Papalote in that neighborhood as they have the best burritos. But thought I'd give this place  a try as well. And it was actually really good. I had the blue corn enchiladas, very tasty, not greasy or super heavy like most mexican places and Pacifico beer for only $2!!! They have outside tables as well. Perfect spot for some spice and a cold beer!

Work has been kind of brutal and my stupid commute is finally getting to me.  My neck, my back, my neck and my back.  Where's that from?

After a long week, I was cranky, achy, kind of hungry and my mind was wandering in many directions.  I guess that's what happens when hysteria, boredom and too many obligations come together with no attention span.

Before heading to a night of all karaoke, all the time, we grabbed a bite at Green Chile Kitchen.  I had walked by many times and heard it was good from the fancy eater but was never motivated enough to go in.  We got there before the line got crazy, ordered the 1/4 green chile rubbed rotisserie chicken and the posole and snagged the last available booth.

The chicken was good and came with salad, rice, beans, tortillas and salsa.  I'd happily get it again but more than Iikely, I'd stick with the posole.  It was full of spices, hominy, chicken and some vegetables and reminded me of Mexico last Mexican Independence Day.  Definitely the perfect hangover food.  They have a vegetarian version, too.

Eating delicious food in a casual environment while watching an adult drink out of a Capri Sun-like juice container got me back to a place where I remembered that I have it pretty damn good.  And my new go to song is:  "What Have You Done for Me Lately" by Miss Jackson.

visited this place last night and had a really good and cheap meal.  I had the vegetarian burrito with tufo and guacamole (these cost extra) and a ginseng cream soda.   they have a fantastic green chile sauce, which is flavorful and hot, but not too overpowering.  they also had a really interesting salsa that i could not stop eating.  the owner/manager was chill and talked to us for a bit about how they get their chiles from New Mexico and how the restaurant was started as a group of people who just really loved cooking & eating these unique green chiles from New Mexico.

Food was good, I ordered the taco plate and liked the chicken and the beef versions, but not the pork so much. I think the husband got enchliadas and was happy.

Yes people (thank you Kerrinski S.), it's food from New Mexico which is one of our 50 states, not nuevo mexican cuisine.  Some people never travel....

Big plus - I love that they serve all of their food on Heath ceramics.  Supporting and showcasing another local company is what makes this a 4 star restaurant for me with 3.5 star food.

But I'll be sure to try that green chile stew next time.

I really like this place.  Its near my boyfriend's house and I've eaten here and gotten it to go.  I think both times I got tamales and they're really good.  The staff is really friendly.  And the restaurant is nice and clean with lots of seating (most of the time.)  They also have beer and other yummy juices.  It is on the more expensive side (for Mexican).  But I know I'll be back again.

Wow, something new to try within walking distance of my apartment?  1 star for convenience!  I thought this place was delicious and the food tasted fresh.  The restaurant was inviting and clean looking and they had a ton of dishes offered.  I'm not really into mexican food so I had the rotisserie chicken.  It was soooo good... I only got a 1/4 for myself and I defintiely wished I got the WHOLE CHICKEN, all for me!  It came with some pretty tasty sides, my favorite being the tortilla which was so light and fluffly.  I will be going back here again as long as I am living here.  Is tonight too early??

Dude. I will drag my ass all the way out from Glen Park (and circle for a half hour) to feast on New Mexican green chile stew any day of the week.  For you geography-challenged people out there, New Mexico is a state in the Southwestern U.S. with a distinct cuisine derived from but unlike Mexican food. Stop comparing GCK to your divey burrito joint in the Mission!  Order the chicken enchiladas - Christmas style - or the aforementioned stew (especially on a foggy night).  It isn't Duran's or Tomasita's, but only because SF couldn't handle that anyway.

A little white-washed I guess?  Sounds too much like the name of that fast food joint... what is that.. Green Burrito?

Anyway I was happily shocked that my food was good!  Yummy burritos smothered in sauce.  They have breakfast-y things too.

It's in walking distance and it's affordable.  They are nice and there is plenty of seating.  YAY!

Finally, someone brought some good green chile to the city.  I've been driving by the place for several months now and I've finally made it in and tried the food. Parking sucks in the area, but I've been there twice in three days...a regular has been born.

I'm officially a fan of their Fulton Valley chicken burrito, which comes with your choice of refried or black beans, and red or green chile salsa (SPICY GREEN CHILE, please). The burrito is BIG and comes with salsa and blue corn chips. (If you run out like I do, they'll give you another helping.) The service is great and the prices are good ($7 for my burrito). And, more importantly, the salsas are delicious. I took my husband there today for lunch and he (being the Colorado transplant that he is) ordered a bowl of the green chile stew. It smelled incredible and was pretty damn good.

They're open for breakfast so one of these days,  I'll have to partake in some green chile breakfast loveliness. For now, I'm just happy that they're here in the city and close to where I live. :)

$10 for a teeny breakfast burrito and can of soda???
Who do they think they are!?
The burrito was pretty good...but not $10 good!
I hadn't come here for the entire year and a half I've lived nearly across the street.
I wish I had kept it that way.

Delicious Mexican comfort food with a gentrified twist.  Used to be that getting taqueria food outside of the Mission was just plain wrong.  No 'mo.  I fed my low-carb gluttony with the naked super Fulton Valley chicken burrito in a bowl sans tortilla and rice, which is an amazing black bean stew with all the fixings.  An hour later, I'm still satisfied and smiling.  Outdoor seating on a sunny day couldn't be beat with a slight breeze.

Can't wait to make the long walk out here next weekend to burn off some calories, stuff ourselves silly and burn off some more on the return trip.  This is what Chipotle aspires to be.  GCK trumps, chumps.

After an 11 mile hike to the ocean and back, my senses picked this place up from 3 blocks away. I was parched and needed some water, and got a rotisserrie chicken.

The burrito's are excellent, fresh and could feed 2.

About $20 for 2-3 people.

There is something you must know before you're allowed to eat here: this is not Mexican food.  It's also not "new" Mexican food.  It's New Mexican food, as in "the state with Santa Fe in it," and it's not trying to be Mexican because it's a different thing altogether.  Green chile, blue corn, pork, hominy corn, made into stews and enchiladas and tamales.  Delicious and rare outside NM.

We had the chicken enchiladas and green chile stew - both authentic and very good.  Chase it with Blue Sky soda (from Santa Fe) and it almost feels like home.

GCK gets four stars for great food, and one star for being here and not one thousand miles away.  When I go back it will be morning, and I'll be eating that breakfast burrito I've been dreaming about.

P.S.  Don't go looking for sopaipillas, as there's no deep fryer.  :(

Things aren't working out for me with this place.  Over three times now I have asked for and paid extra for white meat when I get my 1/4 chicken and I get home to discovered that they have ripped me off again.  A drumstick and thigh is not a quarter white meat.

I wish I could recommend this place.

I have been eating at Green Chile Kitchen for a while and I feel like it has gone down a little recently.  My biggest complaint is that when I order something to go, when I arrive, there is a line in front of me.  I can see that my order is just sitting there, getting soggy, while people are chatting with the cashier and figuring out what to order.  I have had a few too many soggy meals from GCK because of this, thus I have taken a little bit of a break from there.

However, when the food is piping hot and fresh, it is quite delicious.  The ingredients taste fresh and not greasy and very satisfying.  Try eating there and you will be safe.  Also, their wine is pretty good with the food.

I really wanted to have a more interesting, upscale mexican alternative in the neighborhood. However I always leave wanting more, more spice, more flavor, more originality... It is a bit better than your standard mexican dive joint in that there are more interesting options, but purple corn chips only keep my attention so long.. especially at their prices. The spicy hominy soup was good, but there are better versions around the city. Sometimes the music is really loud inside too.

It is not a destination place, but if you're local and need a change, it is there...

Yum! This is by far one of my favorites in the city. As I usually put it, it's non-greasy, non-lardy, but oh-so-delicious Mexican food (or New Mexican if you want to get picky).

The food is incredibly fresh. My favorite is the tamales and their soup is fantastic too. The chicken dinner is unbelievable too and if you're not in the mood for traditional Mexican, it's the perfect choice (definitely get the mashed potato side dish). The prices are reasonable too.

Unfortunately, I can only give them 4 stars. I've tried their breakfast burritos twice now and they made me nauseous both times. All of my friends love them though so it might just be my picky stomach.

The place can get pretty crowded though, so I usually grab it to-go. One of the perks is curbside pick up. You can call ahead and then wait outside in your car and they bring it out (yes, I'm THAT lazy).

My new favorite restaurant is Green Chile Kitchen, and my new favorite thing is pozole, or posole. No matter how you spell it, it's hominy, it's chicken, it's onions and cilantro, it's soup, and it's spicy. And that all adds up to I'm drooling all over the keyboard, just to type it. This is New Mexican style stuff, with an emphasis on red or green chiles, or "Christmas," which is both. Check it out: cheap, and damn good!

I like the food, but a little pricey for what you get.

One time the chef lady messed up my order and the owner (?) scolded her while I was standing nearby. I had innocently taken my plate back because they forgot a few things. Since I had paid $10 for a burrito, I wasn't going to let this one go. The owner said "I'll talk to her because she needs to learn." I was mortified and said "No, no, it is ok, please don't" but he turned around and using my plate for emphasis, began to lectured her as I stood by, shrinking into the floor.

Negative 2 stars for including me (and the everyone else in the restaurant) in an awkward and pointless incident. 1 negative star for scolding someone like they are a child. Poor chef lady.

YUMMY!! Just tried Green Chile Kitchen the other night. I must admit I was a tad skeptical about it since it's "new mexican" food. But hey, I am always down for any kind of mexican, plus I was nearly starving. If you're into hot sauces and salsas, which I am, you'll be in love. I love the green chile sauce, and they really smother it on thick. The chips and salsa were delicious (a clear indicator of whether or not the food will be good). The nachos sounded sooo good, but I ordered the green chile chicken enchilada plate. And let me tell you, the chicken in there was AMAZING. They cook it on a rotisserie and apparently you can come in to get the whole chickens to go. I might give that one a try.

Solid Southwestern style food that also happens to be located right next door to my new favorite nail salon. The nice thing about the Southwestern angle is that the food tends to be healthier than straight up Mexican food.

I had the vegetarian green chili. It was really tasty, though I thought a bit too brothy for chili. I think chili should be thick enough to be scooped up with a tortilla, no other implements needed. In this case, I had to do some spoon maneuvering to facilitate the tortilla scoopage. The tortilla was thick and warm and a great accompaniment to the chili.

The taco menu looked pretty good as well. They have quite a few vegetarian options so I know I'll back for round two, probably next time my nails need some TLC.

Green chile/cheese tamales = Amazing.  uh-maze-ang.  AhhhmaiiizeeeING!
They remind me of the true Southwestern tamales I used to get in Tucson.

Ask for refried beans on the side vs. black beans because they are kick-ass.
They also do fabulous salsas and guac.

Yeah, the prices are higher than the corner taqueria, but I am down to pay a little extra for fulton valley chicken and sustainable ingredients that taste like this.

I came here months ago, before I moved to SF and was just visiting. It was a really cold, rainy day, and I had planned to stop here as a break during my sightseeing. The staff was very nice, and the restaurant was busy but not overwhelming. I ordered the healthy breakfast bowl. It was delicious, really filling, and perfect considering the weather. I thought the price was perfect. I definitely need to make another trip out there soon!

Nearly good enough to be a 4, but not quite.
Green Chile is an order-at-the-counter, get a number, and take a seat sort of place.  They also have some surprisingly nice wine.  Kind of an unusual combination.
An important thing to know is that if there's a large line at the register when you get there, you might want to go elsewhere unless you don't mind sitting around for a long time (like half an hour) waiting for your burrito.
If there isn't a long line, though, the food is pretty tasty, .  It's the closest thing to authentic New Mexican-style that I've had yet around here.  Burrito tortillas are steamed, but then the entire thing is grilled after it's finished.  Unfortunately, the grill isn't used for much else, so you don't get the delicious extra flavor the grill at your usual taqueria will contribute to a grilled tortilla.  The Niman Ranch steak in my burrito was on the tough side, which was too bad.
Tacos and tamales are excellent though.  The green chile stew was relatively unremarkable.

So when I got home from eating at green chile kitchen I looked up the word 'gip' in the dictionary and discovered the following:

Gip: v. To deprive (another) of something by fraud; cheat or swindle.  n. A fraud or swindle or one who defrauds; a swindler.

I paid $14 bones for a salad and a CAN of diet coke at green chile kitchen. Granted I should have had something New Mexican at GREEN CHILE KITCHEN but as I am on a high-protein diet I couldn't have most things on the menu and actually felt like having a salad for lunch.

So I ordered their Organic Greens Salad with the Roasted Chicken on top and 5 toppings. I chose Applewood Smoked Bacon-Smaller than Bacon Bits let me tell you. Mushrooms-Nothing Special.  Jicama-Maybe 4 chunks in there COME ON JICAMA IS NOT EXPENSIVE!!! Cucumbers. Red Onions. I only got 3 chunks of Chicken on my salad. 3!!!

I don't know about you but if I pay 7.95 for a mediocre plate of greens and pay an extra 2.95 for 3 chunks of chicken that freaking plate better be bigger than my face! The dressing was pretty meh as well AND THE KICKER they charged me 1.50 for a CAN of Diet Coke! Oh and it took over 15 minutes for us to get our meal and this was all without wait service...!!!

I'm from New Mexico, as some of you may know, and this place was SO not New Mexico. Not even touristy-artsy-rip-off-gringos-who want to buy part of New Mexico and spend a couple of years there and open a restaurant in San Francisco and GIP unsuspecting Yelpers like me New Mexico. Maybe I'll go back...when my wallet needs raping again!!!

I don't like Mexican food.

Actually no I do like Mexican food.  I just don't like beans, sour cream, dishes that are very spicy and I am uber picky about guacamole.  Yes I am a bona fide gringo and proud of it.

So because I am so picky about 3/4 of what you would find on a Mexican menu, it's just easier to say I don't like Mexican food.

But for Green Chile I will make an exception.  I'm so glad my roommate took me here.  After going to the Fly for the umpteenth time, we felt we might be in need of a change of scenery.  When she suggested Mexican I was kinda like uhhhh.... well I'm not terribly hungry so if it is a bust then that's fine.  But the surprise was a pleasant one.

I LOVE the tacos.  The quesadilla is good too.  I haven't had a salad there or the breakfast burrito but once I do I will be able to give a well rounded review of this place since I will have eaten everything on the menu that I am willing to pay for.

I just wish it was a little bigger.  Everytime I've been there (twice) I feel like i need to bum rush for a table it is so crowded.  But I guess that is the curse of being good.

great spot hidden in the panhandle.. . . no.... not NOPA!...the panhandle.  definitely a quality establishment.  the hard shell taco plate is good although you can't take it to go.  they get soggy pretty quick.  the green chile stew is good as well when you are looking to change it up.  the best thing they got goin (and the cheapest - - the place is a little pricy) is the fulton valley chicken burrito.  $6.50 .  tons of roasted chicken rice and beans and topped in a chile sauce of your choice. they also give you blue corn chips and a kick ass salsa.  i'll b back soon.

Dear GCK,

Thank you for existing, dear GCK, thank you for your delectable rotisserie chicken, paired with your TDF black beans and rice, some sort of vegetable thing that I cannot pronounce but that I love to eat, and  fresh hot tortilla's to roll it all up in.
Thank you too, darling GCK, for dinner last night, lunch today, and the delicious chicken stock bubbling away on my stove, all for the bargain basement price of $18.56.
Till we meet again,

your devoted yelp fan

I'm not quite sure why my housemates thought for MONTHS that  the name of this place was "Green Chicken." I guess if you magically combine Chile and Kitchen to one word?

Anyways, it took me a while to like Green CHILE. I must have just ordered the wrong things. The dishes were either too spicy or failed to really impress me. Now I know what to order and I order it every time.

I get the: 1/4 Fulton Valley Roasted Chicken (in Herb Citrus) with Green Salad (with Citrus Vinaigrette), rice and black beans for $6.95. I haven't tried to conquer the 1/2 chicken yet...for now 1/4 is enough for little ol' me.
