You Yelpers came through again! I was looking for a good, family nature walk, while visiting Gramma in Southern FLA, and you pointed this place out just 10 min. around the corner. And it's free!

I'd say 3/4 of the people there (not crowded) were birders with long-lens cameras. The nature center was closed when we went (closer to sunset), but the bathrooms (very clean) and water fountains (cold) were open.

Go and be amazed by the versatility and volume of nature. For those adverse to the bugginess of nature, the high boardwalk keeps most of the biting, swarming insects at bay. I went with my wife and 4 year-old, who found the 1 mile walk just right. There are enough stopping spots, with shaded benches to rest and hide from that Florida sun, as well as signage to help identify the flora and fauna along the way.

This is an artificially created/restored wetlands that plays multiple roles, as a semi-natural habitat, educational facility, and water filtration system.  It's a pretty great use of land if you ask me, and I wish there were more facilities like this.

This is a great place to go birdwatching.  You can easily spend several hours here...the boardwalks go around through different habitats.  I came here for an hour in the late afternoon and saw 28 species, including some things totally new for me.

The visitor's center is also great.  It has lots of great educational material and you can learn a lot here.

And it's free to get in.  This place is almost too good to be true!

Green Cay Wetlands is a 1.5 mile elevated boardwalk through a reclamation wetland project. The project emulated the Everglades ecosystem and provides refuge for a large variety of wetland creatures.

The great Blue Heron, White heron, turtle, Florida alligator and more call this place home. On any given day you can see these animals, and with luck others like the Florida Bobcat, River Otter, and raccoon.

Green Cay also include a 9,000 square foot nature center. The nature center provides hands-on experiences with live animals and tanks with frogs, turtles, and baby alligators. The nature center also sponsors learning events for kids of all ages, including their "night walk" where you get to experience the park at night.

Pros : Fantastic place to get photos that emulate the Everglades. A Huge number of different species can be seen during migration like Roseated Spoonbill, Loggerhead Shrike, Cedar Waxwing, Painted Buntings and more.

Cons : The park attracts walkers early in the morning and later in the evening.

A must see if your visiting the area. Be sure to bring the camera!
