Pretty much the first thing is the fact that it's in a liquor store. Or a liquor store is in it. Fortunately, the Green Bean guys are around a bit more consistently than the corner store, where the staff will more times than not be inexplicably unavailable.
Anyway, you know it's not your average coffee shop.
Rundown, slapdash, lowkey, pleasantly broken in. Absolutely comfy. Weird. In the really good way. You walk in and the mailman will be catching a snooze on the couch.
After a couple visits it's pretty hard not to love this place.
Also, as said by others, SERIOUSLY local. These folks here know everyone in the neighborhood, and they will know your house even if you don't know them.
Coffee is just fine, veggie bagel tasty.
It's a little cafe/convenience store but they don't have wireless. They do have a little post-office, but it closes at 4. Which sorta sucks. Their sandwiches are okay, but not quite worth the $5.50 they get for 'em. If you're running to BART and need a bite though, they're cool. They let you use the ATM at their register for like $.50, which is cool.
I've given the place an extra star for reliability; they're actually a reasonably well-priced convenience store too.
I give em' 4 stars, for the Veggie Bagels!!
and for Dan & Brett, the 2 loyal guys, that are always there!!
We love them...maybe you have to be a local to appreciate this little spot...it saves us, many a mornings!!
They have the "Stamp System", buy 10 drinks, and the next one is free!!
AND.....
When your card of 10 stamps is filled, they throw it in the fishbowl, and pick a,
"Customer of the Week", every Monday..and you get 1 FREE drink, EVERY day of that week!!!
....I've been so fortunate, to get that honor TWICE!!! : )

This pup friendly neighborhood joint (3 blocks from the dog park) has the best veggie bagels around. Dog treats are always available as well as is all of the local gossip of the Rockridge neighborhood. The quickmart next door is cool and it is a good place to go in for neighborhood information like directions, housing jobs, etc. It's not posted on a board, but ask the owners behind the counter because I'm prettty sure NOTHING goes down in that neighborhood without them knowing about it.
