This review is for custom-made shells and alterations on vintage clothing.

Daniela, the  shop owner, is more than a designer or tailor.  She's an artist who works with fabric to create beautiful clothes. And she's delightful to work with - friendly, warm, and unpretentious.  I shopped everywhere for some simple shells to wear under suits or with dressy skirts.  Finding nothing, I finally bought some fabrics I liked and took them to Daniela.   From my verbal description of what I wanted, she created a muslin pattern from scratch that fit me perfectly.  She spent a lot of time getting every detail exactly right, and then created two shells for me (using the silk materials I had bought).  She even understood my desire to get just the right buttons! The results were wonderful.  Daniela stayed in touch w/me during the entire process, and patiently fitted the final garments until we were both happy with the way they looked.  Several weeks later I bought a vintage off-white duster that was too long for me.  I took it to Daniela and she recommended a length that would suit me better, but still retain the original lines and details of the garment.  Again, the results were terrific.  Her pricing tends toward the high-end, but in my opinion, her workmanship and attention to detail are definitely worth it.  The garments that she worked on for me will be part of my wardrobe for many years to come.

Owner Daniela did a fantastic job tailoring my bridesmaid dress that was too small for me. She had to take some material off the bottom to fix it, but it came out looking even better than before, in my opinion.

Daniela was great at paying attention to detail & following up with me about what exactly I wanted and what needed to be done. And she also gave me great advice about what shoes to wear b/c of the alterations!

You can definitely count on Green and Blue for having alterations done properly and in a timely manner. I highly recommend this business!

Daniela is the BEST designer/seamstress in DC! I am blown away by her work and understanding of a women's body.  I am so mad at myself for going to Doh's in Georgetown and spending WAYYY to much money on the wrong alterations!  I actually took the items I had Mr. Doh adjust to her because they were not done right.  He only did the most simple alterations (waist) and said my problem was solved, which it wasn't.  Daniela fixed them right up! She can do the more complicated and complex alterations and does them well. The problem I have is that I am tall but thin so always have to go a size up on the length for pants, which usually means that the backside is going to be too baggy....case in point: I have a lot of clothes that need fixing.  I took a pair of jeans, a pair of dress pants, and a skirt to start - all were too big, but not in the waist, in the hamstrings and down the sides of the legs.  Daniela adjusted the side seams and took them in and now everything fits perfectly!  I was so impressed with her work that I made a second trip back and took in my red peacoat that was way too big for me that I have been wanting to get fixed for a really long time.  Only reason I haven't is that I thought it would be too expensive.  But Daniela took in the sides and the arms for about $100, which is pretty good for a nice wool coat that would easily cost several hundo to replace.  Now it fits much better!  She is definitely my go-to seamstress in DC, don't waste your time with anyone else!

I came here based on Yelp reviews to get my wedding dress altered. A little dicey to go in blind, but after having a not so great experience when I bought my dress, I wanted to go elsewhere for alterations. I have also been to a couple of places in DC and had some "meh" work as well as just bad.

Daniela at Green and Blue was so sweet, got right back to me when I called, and consequently was on top of keeping in touch with me throughout. I brought my dress to her for a number of fixes, and also sent my fiance to get a suit tailored (again, going in blind....).

Just got everything back and couldnt have been more pleased! My alterations were perfect, and she took the time to walk through each thing that had been done. My fiance was also thrilled with his suit, and he's a pretty picky guy. Prices were totally reasonable, turnaround time was great, etc.

They also have a really cute boutique where they sell small label designers as well as their own designed and crafted womens clothes and jewelry.

    I highly recommend!

    Review is for alterations.

I took a bridesmaid's dress to get hemmed- Daniela is SO kind and gracious and wonderful. She did it in 1 day.  It was an emergency situation, but she made it seem like no big deal. AND it was only $48, which I thought reasonable. I will not go anywhere else again!

I had an emergency bridesmaid dress alteration, and Daniela called me back within the hour.  I called her after hours, and she made me feel calm in the stressful situation.  I have to say that the clothes in the shoppe were fantastic as well.  Coming from NYC and not living in DC, it was a HUGE relief to find Green and Blue!  Thank you thank you, thank you!  I will definitley be back to shop next time I am in DC.

I stop into Green and Blue with some regularity but rarely find anything inspiring. Sadly, the mannequins in the window are always more interesting than anything I see on the racks.

On a recent visit nothing but a single Rebbeca Taylor dress beckoned me to take a closer look.

File under: Review for a place where I did not buy anything.

Green and Blue was the first stop on my "tourist in my own hometown" walk around Dupont.  After reading the reviews, I was excited to see their offerings even though I was warned that prices were high.

I'm sad to say that I found very little that I really liked, or that was even aesthetically pleasing in some way.  Something about the colors being offered that was a little off to me.  I do really like that the owner offers tailoring and will custom make garments for you.  I love small boutiques like this!  Now I know where to take things to be tailored if I need it when in DC.

The jewelry is really pretty and worth a good look.

If you are in the area, do stop by.  Even if you don't buy anything, show your support!

Green and Blue has a really small but good location next to Propper Topper in Dupont Circle. They have a nice selection of clothes I could wear to work, and also some more casual pieces. The boutique has a lot of fancy brands like Cynthia Steffe and Rebbeca Taylor. They also have quite a bit of nice jewelry on display. The owner of this boutique has her own label and will custom make items for customers, if you happen to have that kind of dough.

It's definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of places like Sugar in Georgetown. Green and Blue has a more of a "European" feel, whatever that means. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Green and Blue will have a sale sign in its window soon.

    My review is for alterations.

I brought my wedding dress to Green and Blue after discovering that my bridal salon did not offer any alterations appointments on the weekend.  Green and Blue offers Saturday appointments and the price for alterations is based on what you need to have done.  I needed a bustle put in to my lace wedding dress and alterations in the torso/bust to take the dress in.  The cost was $250 - in my opinion, this was quite reasonable in comparison to the $450 that the bridal salon would have charged me.  It was very easy to make follow-up appointments, and the whole alterations process took only a matter of weeks.  I actually had my dress back in my hands two months before my wedding date, but Daniela (the owner of Green and Blue) assured me that if I needed more alterations closer to the wedding, I could bring the dress back in and she could get them done in a hurry.  The bustle was done beautifully - the fabric draped perfectly - and it held up the whole wedding (no busted bustle here). I wholeheartedly recommend Green and Blue for wedding dress alterations - thanks, Daniela!

Green and Blue is rather conveniently located, being roughly two seconds from the South exit of the Dupont Circle metro, and features a nice collection of dresses and blouses from such brands as Rebecca Taylor, Shoshanna, and Cynthia Steffe.

For a town like DC, it's a cute little piece of New York style. Nothing too stodgy here, although everything is very classic and quite chic. However, there's just nothing to get excited about. The lone salesgirl was really fun and friendly but admitted that she buys this stuff online (as do I). The apparel is the same stuff I can get from Nordstroms, Saks, and Bloomingdales. There's no price advantage, especially since hardly anything seemed to be on sale. Also, none of the brands are local or otherwise unusual.

In a nutshell, the place is....nice. But why settle for nice when you can have amazing?

This store looked so intriguing from the outside... but when I stopped in, nothing looked promising.  I wasn't inspired to try one. single. thing. on.

The collection has a lot of basics and cute party dresses, but none that did it for me.

Three stars for the fact that they're helping to expand the boutique scene in DC, which there are awfully few of.  And also kudos to them for adding a place to shop for fashionable clothes to Dupont Circle, which there are also relatively few of.

Love this store!  Most of the jewelry is made by one of the owners who is also a designer therefore most of the pieces are one of a kind.  They sell trendy clothes for all ages and prices range from $50 up to $300.  You can also get custom-made design by one of the owners at reasonable prices, and she also does tailoring.

This weekend they are having a Mother's Day sale, 20% off on all merchandise!

I think Green & Blue is great! I've found some cute dresses, one of my favorite skirt suits, etc... by well known, trendy designers, but mostly I love the unique jewelry and accessories like woven scarves and knitted hand bags.

I'm working with one of the owners on redesigning a family antique wedding gown and it's coming along perfectly. Ela Ela Couture can handle working with old garments that need updating as well as designing from scratch. They are lovely to work with, will sketch for you before starting the piece and work within reasonable budgets.

I am already planning to bring in some garments that need tailoring and looking forward to what Green & Blue has in store for this Spring.

Daniela and her seamstress are lovely and amazing. I had a bridesmaid dress (which was a bit complicated) and a wedding dress altered there. Everything was smooth and easy, and Daniela even found matching fabric to add a unique detachable train to my wedding dress.  Prices are totally reasonable, and communication is great. Highly recommend.

I've gone to Green and Blue for difficult tailoring of some lovely dresses and skirts - even an overhaul of a designer dress. Recently, I took my wedding dress to be tailored. I didn't trust anyone else (not even Kleinfeld - where I bought the dress from) to get it right. Green & Blue delivered as promised and went out of their way to make sure the dress was ready on time. My dress was particularly difficult - asymetrical trumpet style - difficult to bustle correctly - especially for any discerning bride's eye. I definitely recommend Green and Blue for any important tailoring. They're knowledgeable, friendly, and quite frankly one of the easiest, friendliest and most accomodating vendors I worked with over my wedding.

A very nice store with plenty of fashionable (trendy, not classic) clothing items. The selection is fairly small, slightly pricey and if you're not into what is popular this season, then you will probably be disappointed. They have a nice selection of jewelry as well. I was somewhat disappointed by the salesperson working the day that I came to visit. She was trying to convince an elderly woman that a terribly unflattering jacket looked good on her, and was flat out lying about how it looked from the back. What really floored me were the prices of the custom-made clothing items...not bad. $300 for a pair of pants made specifically for you? That's how much a pair will run at Barney's, and these will actually fit and flatter. I could be convinced...

Not quite sure about the merchandise in the store as the prices are beyond what I'd like to pay - although they do look pretty.  However, the alterations that was done by the owner of the store is fantastic.  She obviously takes pride in her work and is a trained seamstress.  Only drawback is that you can't just pop into the store for alterations - an appointment must be set up.
