El Cajon, CA
Went to the GTB yesterday based on the yelp reviews and recommendation from the barista at starbucks up the street.
Upon entering I was greeted by Hana the owner. I asked if I can take a look at she said "you are welcome to"
I'm giving this place a solid 3.5 stars. Since its the holiday season I round it up to 4, but this place has room for improvement.
The food was hit or miss. The falafel, yellow rice and lentil soup were awesome.
The potatoes and babaganouj had way to much salt. The hummus was runny and lacked flavor.
Hana and her husband were very nice and attentive. 5/5 for service.
Will I be back ? Maybe... -

I came here with a friend since we were both craving some Greek and found a Sign On San Diego deal for it. It's buffet style and includes all you can eat gyros, pita, greek salad, pilaf, baklava amongst other items.
All in all it was okay. I might go again if I was in the area, but probably not drive out there on a whim. -

It sounds good on paper...Belly Dancers, Greek food, Buffet all for the low price of $11.99 but I will never come back here willingly.
Went to a bday party here on Saturday and literally asked my husband, where the hell are we? when he parked. It's a random strip mall location on Main near the end of El Cajon Blvd. When we walked in I had to remind myself not to be rude and shut my dropped jaw. Decor is just so fake, super cheesy, dusty, 90s, ridiculous. I felt like I dropped into that movie Big Fat Greek Wedding. The place is also pretty small, especially considering there is a "stage", a buffet and a dance "floor" for the bellydancer. The music is LOUD. It's loud and it is all keyboard, synthetic sounds and synth drums.
That reminds me - Tip: check in on yelp here and u get a free wine for you and a friend! Stoked!
Food - Salad was like floating on a layer of water. Yuck. Had that with feta, onions, beets, olives, italian dressing was weird tasting. So was ranch. Pat & Oscars beats this "authentic" homestyle Greek salad by leaps and bounds. Sad!
I would love to review a ton of different food, but even though I went up 2-3 times, so many trays of food remained empty, I never got to try most stuff. I did love the Greek Chicken, Gyro meat was a tad on a salty side, pita was a bit too toasty/hard in the middle. Everything was just ho hum - rice, hummus, babaganouj, veggies were watery. Everything was WATERY so annoying.
Even the baklava was watery and mushy on the bottom... seriously did the ceiling sprinklers go off in the kitchen before they put all the food out for the night?!?!
Luckily my kid was stoked on the fries, bland veggies and jello. and luckily i had that free glass of wine...especially because a large and in charge mexican? belly dancer came out and scared me with her thundery cellulite doused rendition of a partially dressed woman in an earthquake. I get it all belly dancers aren't hot hot, but oh man.
Amazeballs - Greek chicken
Bummer - LOUD bad "music" - You would be better off playing Greek music on an ipod boombox dealy, the water in my food gets a big huge BOO, and for goodness sakes...REFILL YOUR TRAYS that was atrocious. -

My family and I have visited Greek Town Buffet 3 times in the past year. The other visits were ok, but last night really sucked.
Each dish I grabbed from the buffet tasted watered down and flavorless. The hummus had less flavor than oatmeal. Some dishes at the buffet shouldn't even count as edible: for instance there was a dish labeled: steamed vegetables which was a few slices of zucchini and cauliflower floating in an ocean of water. The babganouj was also watery and boring. My Dad and Wife agreed that the food went downhill since our last visits. The food by itself was easily a one star, maybe a 2 star affair.
Second there was a constant shortage of everything. When we arrived there were no forks. Pita bread was missing for about 20 minutes. Our table didn't have napkins even. One star for poor preparation.
Last time I liked the greek style rice pudding. This time it was flavorless like everything else. One star for deserts.
Finally the night was accompanied by a keyboard playing musician. I've heard this fellow in the past and he was ok. Last night his keyboard was on max volume, making it impossible to talk to my wife or Dad. Sometimes that's a good thing, but it got irritating listening to synthetic keyboard tones for an hour. One star for terrible ambiance. -

Went back after a long spell, preferring to stay across the street at HomeTown. Well GreekTown has maintained its quality and variety. You get the sense they really care to put out a good product. I got burnt out on HomeTown and came back to Greek, and am glad I did. I may return here as a matter of habit!

Love this place, been coming here a long time. Great thing about the place is the freshness of the food and the friendly service. I recommend it to all my friends who enjoy Greek food.

We decided to drive out to give this place a try since my mom loves Greek food, and it was ok, but I probably wouldn't go back. The buffet price was good, the service was friendly, and the place was packed on a Saturday night, but to me, the food was just ok, and the music was too loud.
The highlights were the Greek chicken, chicken souvlaki and pita w/ baba ghanoush. The rest was just ok, often tasted mushy (like the green beans and the insides of the dolmades) or dried out (meat souvlaki) or not too flavorful (pastistio, spanakopita). I ordered a glass of wine, and the good news was that it was a generous pour, the bad news was that it was one of the worst wines I've ever tasted; totally undrinkable. But, they did take it off the bill when I asked.
On a positive note, the kids liked the pita, hummus, fresh veggies and jello and fresh fruit at the dessert bar. -

Just a solid overall Greek buffet. Chicken slouvaki was particularly tender and flavorful.
Anything with bottomless gyros meat, it's hard not to give at least 3-stars to. My friend Paul had 3 plates and really liked the Baklava.
Kudos, Greek Town. -

Went there for dinner on a Thursday night, not very busy, the food was great and a good variety.
My first time and I will return! Our waiter was friendly and attentive!
Thank you,

LOVE this PLACE!!! We're regulars, try to stop by once every few weeks. The service is wonderful, very friendly, very attentive.
The gyro meat is always fresh, as is the pita bread. Warm and tasty. The salad bar is always stocked and FRESH! They offer everything from hummus, tzaziki sauce, olives, sliced beets, big chunks of fetta...mmm mmm....
The dessert bar is the BEST! Has delicious baklava, rice pudding with cinnamon sprinkled over the top, fresh fruit and jello. I drive all the way from the south bay just to come eat here. It is by far my fave greek restaurant/buffet. -

We passed by this place and had to stop for a Greek buffet (something unheard of in our hometown) and were incredibly impressed.
The chicken has the most wonderful citrus flavor and the tzatziki was addicting. I would have preferred it be a couple dollars less for the dinner buffet, but at $12 I still can't complain. It was a wonderful experience and we will be back again. Especially to try out their hookah patio! -

Just for the record, I am Greek and several people in my family are great cooks of Greek food. So I do know good Greek food from bad Greek food. I must say that if I did not know the difference I would probably have found this restaurant more bearable. However, none of this makes up for the fact that the food was not fresh, was not replenished when it ran out and not well prepared.

Great price for a buffet.
The food was bland and it didn't look nor taste fresh.
The server was cordial and did the bottom line: pre-set a large group table (but with awkward empty space at the end - different tables could have been joined so we wouldn't have empty table space) and set out water jugs (that were never re-filled and I couldn't find our server).
The restaurant was empty except for a 3-top which arrived half-way through our dinner. -

I normally steer far away from anyplace with the word "buffet" in the title, but Greek Town is the exception.
I went here on a Friday night and loved their Gyros meat and other greek food ! The Belly Dancer was a fun surprise and added ambiance to the experience.
I would highly recommend this for families, or anyone who wants a good casual meal of excellent Greek Food. -

If you find yourself in the middle of Downtown El Cajon during lunchtime, perhaps you're lost, but you're most likely fulfilling your civic duty at the El Cajon Courthouse or making a court appearance for some other exciting reason. Don't let your traffic violation get you down because I know how to brighten your day. Head over to the lovely Greek Town Buffet!
Here you'll find an assortment of tasty Mediterranean treats such as spanakopita, gyros, tzatziki sauce, rice, salads, bahklava & more. Yum!
Drinks are not included, but it's still reasonably priced for the variety and quality of food.
I've been here several times and I'm consistently pleased with the quality and freshness of the food. If you go during the lunch rush, that's best because they're constantly replacing the food.
Haven't been for belly dancing nights but that sounds like it would be fun...although it's not very spacious inside. Would love to hear if anyone else has been there for the shows.
p.s. I used to be student worker for the health department and tagged along when they did food inspection here a few years back. Was all good & they deserved their A grade. -

I drove past here today on my way to a makeup job and remembered that I need to make it back to this place asap.
Great food, great service -

$9.99 are you outta your mind? The All-U-Can Eat lunch buffet was a cornucopia of Greek deliciousness.
Let's see, I had: spanakopita, falafel, keftedes, 2 gyros, baklava, a salad, some fassolakia freska, some olives, souvlaki, and some stuffed zucchini which I think are called Kolokithakia Yemista Avgolemono.
Oh my god I stuffed myself. The buffet came with a drink, good service, and some rocking traditional Greek jams in the sound system. I could do this on a regular basis.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome.
I'm often skeptical of buffets because the food's not so fresh. No problem here.
The buffet is small but they have everything. They keep it small so that the portions stay fresh, and they restock it constantly.
Some of the best Greek food I've ever had, and it's all you can eat for just $9.99 at lunch!
Fabulously tender gyro meat, stuffed grape leaves, souvlaki, spanikopita, baklava, pita bread, cucumber salad, feta, hummus, meatballs, lemon potatoes, tons of fresh veggies, roasted chicken, falafel, and so on.
Very kid friendly as well. Nice atmosphere as well with greek music and grape vines strewn about.
One of the best deals in all of San Diego by far!Listed in: Best Bang for the Buck

I usually don't write bad reviews and just focus on the good places, but this place was truly bad. Maybe I just hit this place on a bad night but wow...at $12/person for dinner I really expected better food. The spanakopita was strangely flavored (almost like taco seasoning), the potatoes were flavorless, many items seemed to be from a can, the flavors on several things were just way off (like the super smokey baba ganouj and the overly vanilla rice pudding).
The spanikopita and baklava had way too much phillo and not enough filling (and were both too dry). The dessert bar had two types of Jell-O and chocolate pudding...that should be a sign that they're really more aimed at commodity crap food than real ethnic Greek food.
I'd love to think that maybe I just hit this on a bad night... -

What a bummer that that one guy had a bad experience. I've been to Greek Town Buffet several times, and I've always walked away happy.
They have a good variety, it's always fresh, the flavors are good and we generally have an all around happy time.
Did I mention the peppy greek music? I haven't been on belly-dancing night, but on all other nights they play the kind of Greek instrumentals that make it impossible not to smile and shimmy.
It seems like this place attracts individuals and families from all walks of life so there's always fun people-watching too.
Tonight we had:
Pilaf, soup, chicken (kebab and on the bone, which was better), baba ganoush, humous, salad, veggies, stuffed grape leaves, pita, potatoes, friend, falafel, fruit, pudding and baklava.
Everything was great. And I don't mean just good. Okay, maybe the chocolate pudding was a little disappointing, but what did you expect? It's pudding. The rice pudding, tapioca diamonds and fruit were all delicious.
As an added benefit, it's late at night, I have just eaten my fill at a buffet and I feel happy, healthy and not a bit tired! -

We came here randomly in search of a buffet. We got turned away from Sycuan because we had a 17 year old with us. Apparently you can't bring in minors even for buffet.
I was really satisfied by the variety of food. Good salad and hummus, and I really enjoyed the gyro meat and yogurt sauce. The best was the Greek chicken and rice pilaf! Really yummy. There was keyboard entertainment but that was it on a saturday night while we were there. -

This used to be one of my favorite places. However recently the quality of the food has taken a drastic downfall. I'm very sad to see what used to be such great food turn south.

Like any buffet there is a lot of food available that I would not enjoy. That is ok. I like the gyro meat and spanokopita. The chicken svoulaki is good but I preferred it a few years back. I also wish they would bring back the dolmas. Really nice staff.

when i feel my waistline can afford a top-notch buffet bender, i'm going here. greek's my favorite. food quality more outstanding since last meal here about 8 months ago. you can't get better greek for a $13 dinner buffet . favorite items this trip were lentil soup(very tasty curry in it) & chicken souvlaki--outshined the gyros this time; friggin perfect, tangy, lemony marinade & cooked perfectly too. proper salad bar. hummus & dolmades not bad, but not good enough for seconds. new item: greek meatball? the labels were incorrect . greek meatball was a delicious cut up sausage in a complimenting sauce. some of the best seasoned olives i've ever had. nice greek & non-greek desserts. nice new server very attentive. i'm going at prime times from now on, to ensure peak buffet freshness.

Mehhhh. If you can get in with a coupon and enjoy some live entertainment, it might be worth it.
As with most buffets the food is terrible in individual portions, but who can resist the ability to eat as much as you want before you puke/suffer a heart attack. Stick to the Greek chicken place down main street or near the DMV. -

El Cajon, CA
If you look at the unsatisfied reviews, nearly all are from quite a while ago. The new owners are dedicated to making this a great place, and doing quite a good job at it. The food is all authentic, and delicious, and if you come at a busy time, very fresh. Nothing I have tried is canned, and the only things I haven't tried are the puddings. My lady says the rice pudding is good, though. Soups are excellent, Pita bread fresh and made on the premises. Belly dancers at 7:00 P.M. Friday and Saturday, and they are excellent dancers, lots of fun for the whole family. Little kids seem to be mezmerized by all the shiny costuming twirling around. I defy anyone to tell me where else you can go in the San Diego area and have a wonderful buffet while being entertained by expert and beautiful dancers and live music, for $12.
Almost forgot, Hookah available outside on the patio. -

What a fun place to be at 7pm on Friday or Saturday night! A belly dancing show while you eat as much as you want. They may belly dance other nights as well, but I am not sure. We take our 22 month old and he is mesmerized by the dancers who always give him lots of special attention as they dance among the tables. The gyro meat is perfect although the mousaka could use some work. They also have been kind and not charged us for the food we share with our son.

For $9, this place is hands down some of the best buffet food you can get. Definitely healthier compared to your standard Chinese buffet, and definitely unique. The meats were soft and the stuffed cucumbers were great. I have always been pleased with the service here, and will go back again whenever time permits.

Great Gyros to go (if you don't want to sit around and such), wonderful waitresses, although they don't take orders on the phone since someone ordered a lot of food once on the phone and never came to pick it up.
So you'll have to go in person if you want to order. -

What fun this was. Not only is there a wide assortment of delicious Greek dishes here but it's also a buffet! I really enjoyed the experience because I was able to try things that I would not have ordered on my own. And I liked it all. When we arrived there was a belly dancer. She was really cute and fun and kept trying to get people to dance with her. Had we have known that she was going to stop dancing at 7 pm we would have danced instead of eating first. So be forewarned: if you want to see the belly-dancing (I recommend) then arrive around 6 pm, watch the show first, and then eat. That's my game plan for next time.

Went there for lunch with a friend, we both didn't have a pleasurable experience. The Gyro meat was over salted and there isn't really much to choose from. There other places in El Cajon that serve hand made pita bread that would be more worth the 10 dollars a person than this place was.
