I have eaten here many many times and am almost always delighted with my food. There are certain dishes that they do really really well and I've learnt that it is better to stick to those.
The highlights: The Chicken Kabob is outstanding. It is simple and perfectly cooked. The chicken is tender, moist, smoky and delicious. The Tzatzki and Taramasalata are fantastic, although because they are home made are sometimes a bit inconsistent. I've had Tarama once there that didn't taste at all like the other times, but when it's good it's great. The home made Greek sausages are wonderfully complex in flavour and addictive. I also can't get enough of their grilled shrimp. They are delicious and I always wish the portion was twice as large.
The lowlights: I hate to mention these as everything else I've had here has been really stellar, BUT how can you call yourself a Greek restaurant and not have a fantastic Moussaka? I was completely underwhelmed by the Moussaka and almost didn't come back again, but decided to give them another chance and have been thrilled with everything on all subsequent visits. I have never ordered the dry, bland moussaka again. The Bechamel sauce which normally can save a so so Moussaka was terribly blah and the eggplant was also dry and heavy. I've had some Moussaka's that are so sublime that they make you want to cry. It's time for the Greek Corner to stop resting on it's laurels and redo the recipe for the Moussaka. I haven't ordered the Pastitsio as I'm sure that if the Bechamel sauce on the Moussaka was terrible then it would also be terrible on the Pastitsio as well. The Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) were also underwhelming. They tasted like every canned one I've ever had.
The appetizer sampler w/ dolmathakia, tsatziki, taramosalata, spinach pie, hommus, tabouleh, feta cheese, eggplant salad and olives--Perfect way to start a meal! The taramosalata (Red caviar blend) is AMAZING!!
The Falafel pita wrap with side of lemon soup- Delicious and filling for only $9.25!
The Corner Special Gyro, Moussaka, and Combo Vegetarian Plate are a few of my other favorites.
Delicious and authentic food, friendly and attentive service, and amazing value makes Greek Corner one of my "go to" place for a great meal!

Great food at great prices with great service--what more could you ask for?? The gyro was very… Read more »
Let's face it, you will not come here propose to your girlfriend or have your graduation dinner, so all that really matters about this place is that the food is AWESOME. I live a block away and I have to fight myself from picking up dinner there every night. If I could just eat the warm buttery pitas that they wrap their sandwiches in all day, I probably would. The falafel, souvlaki, gyro, all are bomb. Oh and the hommus, the HOMMUS. I might have to put this place on speed dial because the store-bought crap does not hold up. I actually used to work at another Greek restaurant in the city and the Greek Corner wins by far.
I mostly get take out, which they prepare really fast; they are usually done by the time I can walk over right after calling.
Any restaurant that's family run is almost always aces in my book. But - a family run restaurant where one of the patriarchs serenades me with "Viviene the Tattooed Lady" as I walk in? Wow. That's like a little piece of heaven.
The food is tasty and homemade and so good that I've had to deal with the office snitch stealing (and eating - what an ass) the pitas right out of my takeaway bag.
If only this restaurant were closer to my neighborhood...
Best Greek food and atmosphere in the area. Great, affordable menu and friendly waitresses. I can't wait to go back.
They really know how to cook a lamb shank!
Normally food does not inspire me to take pictures, but after getting take-out from Greek Corner last night, I just had to. I had heard about the restaurant and driven past it about a million times in my 4 years here. But I had never gone in. Once entering the restaurant, it is much larger and nicer than it appears from the outside. I'm not saying it looks horrible from the outside, but it looks like a tiny, tiny place (or least I had always thought that).
It was nearing 9:00 P.M., so there was no way I was going home to cook something. Enter Greek Corner. I was being indecisive, so I decided on the sampler platter for two (but without olives - love olive oil, hate olives). This contains: dolmathakia, tsatziki, taramosalata, spinach pie, hommus, tabouleh, feta cheese, eggplant salad for the indecisive person who wants to try a bit of everything.
I swear the container they gave me weighed a few pounds. Look at the picture I posted. I asked if it came with pita, and I got a mountain (again, see picture). I got all of this for $10 (and I have at least 2 more meals out of it in the fridge). The food was delicious - quality and quantity, a huge plus!
The spinach pie was not the best I've ever had (just with it had a bit more feta/salt), but that's just personal preference, and it was by no means bad, just a bit different.
On top of this, since the food in the plate is cold, it took just minutes to get my food. The staff was also friendly and we chatted about the unavailability of peanut butter in countries like Brasil.
I'll definitely be back!
I absolutely love this place--I have to stop there any time I'm near it. The service is excellent and fast, the decor is surprisingly cozy and almost a tiny bit romantic (said the GF), and the food is SUPERB. I made a great deal of noise about there not being good/plentiful Greek food in Somerville and Cambridge, and while I largely feel that's still true, this place is a gem.
I always get the gyro, but I've sampled friends' meals, and it's all fantastic. The portion sizes are generous without being overkill, so you don't leave hungry. Lastly, this review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the Greek Fries--I'm in love with Greek Fries. They're basically fries that have been done-up with grated parm and some oregano, but the potatoes are hand cut and absolutely perfect. I always wanted to like hand-cut fries, but they all seemed to come out hard and cardboard-like or else like a carved-up baked potato. Not these--no, sir. Fantastic.
This place is in my speed dial for a reason. A very good reason. I get takeout from them more than any other place in the area. I call when I get off the commuter rail at Porter and by the time I'm at the restaurant, my gyro is waiting for me, warm and ready to go.
Mostly, I do take out from this place, but inside the restaurant is decently spacious and a nice place to grab a meal. The staff are very friendly and the food come us pretty quickly. Honestly, I've never ordered anything other than the Corner Special Gyro. It's an amazing deal. A great amount of food at a very reasonable price. It is also large enough to feed a small army. If I'm feeling famished, I may add a salad, but that's only for the very ambitious. I think the key is great feta and amazing pita bread.
The Greek Corner has, most likely, the best Greek food in Boston. Make your way here and do it soon!
This is a great find. The food is excellent, prices are v. good, and the decor is "good enough."
I had the chicken gyro combo w/ fries ($8.50), which was great (fantastic warm pita). The portions were HUGE though, and b/c we had ordered the hummos and feta/olives appetizer, it was way more food than I needed, but that's fine. I love leftovers! The hummos was great, the feta and olives were pretty and tasty - my kids loved them. The kids shared a chicken skewers w/ rice from the kids menu and liked it. Sig. other had a gyro combo w/ salad and loved it. A hit -- we'll go back and will just order a little less!
The only drawbacks - parking - we found it right in front, but it's a gamble. And decor is 7/10. The review should be a 4.5, with yelp did halfsies!
After returning from a vacation to Greece, my friend had a hankering for some stateside Greek, so we headed over to Greek Corner after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp. We weren't disappointed at all -- extremely friendly staff and excellent, authentic Greek. What, you were looking for something else?
If you've only ever had falafel from places that don't specialize in Greek, just forget about whatever salty impression you've got of the stuff and get the falafel here. The Grape Leaves they serve at Greek Corner are the best I've ever had. Anywhere. Great grape leaves have a taste that's unlike any other meal I've ever had, and whatever it is, Greek Corner's got it nailed. My friend and I made a deal -- I'd give her one of my grape leaves in exchange for her souvlaki. I tried her souvlaki (cooked perfectly)... and then she said she was too full to try my grape leaves. SCORE.
The Galaktoboureko we had for dessert was fabulous, and was gone within about 15 seconds. Real plate-licking stuff. The waitress dealt very patiently with our attempts to pronounce it before smiling and setting the record straight (how many times a day must she have to do that?). For Greek in Boston, make the trip out to Greek Corner. So worth it.
let me start off by saying, I love the food here. The hummus, tzaziki, chicken gyro..all awesome. And feta cheese, talk dirty to me.
however, it is quite difficult at times to actually enjoy the food since the service is so poor.
long waits, being ignored at the counter / door / table...lame.
go for take out (just don't double park) or go on a tuesday afternoon at 5pm..
Went there with a group of friends and ate well. I had the veggie plate which is very generous, including falafel (a bit overcooked), grape leaves with rice (delicious), hummous (very good and fresh), and fries (limp and greasy), and lots of lettuce & tomatoes & feta--a lot of food! The red house wine was decent. My table mates were all happy with their choices although I didn't think it looked very appetizing. Service was very friendly and with a smile!
The place was very busy and lively, which means it was loud, but the atmosphere was very congenial.
My favorites:
* Souvlaki plate or Souvlaki sandwich
* Spanakopita
Be prepared for onions and garlic to stick with you for the next 24 hours. Also, be careful of broken skewer pieces in the meat.. especially in your sandwich.
Restaurant: relatively clean and bigger than it looks from the outside.
Service: ok - specifically I remember the first time coming here, when it was 20 minutes to closing on a Saturday, and our group was turned away, although many people were still dining and others were picking up their orders. At Greek Corner, the service when dining in is ok, but it's better to do take out.
Parking: sometimes difficult, especially since the side street is reserved for local residents.
This review is the latest in my effort to review restaurants FOR TAKEOUT, because that's how my husband and I usually eat restaurant food.
We ordered a gyro plate with fries, a chicken gyro sandwich, the greek fries, and the baklava. We had high hopes because we love the spanokopita.
The pros: the food arrived on time and it was still warm. The gyros are very good. The flatbread is fresh and soft. The flavors of the meat, both the chicken and the lamb, are fantastic. If we were only rating these two dishes, I'd give GCR four stars.
however ...
The cons: the fries were barely cooked and flavorless, even the greek fries which were dusted with some sort of cheese. Also, we got approximately four small bites of baklava for four dollars. It tasted good but customer satisfaction-wise it's a travesty.
In short, next time I'll stick to anything made with filo dough and my husband says he'll stick with the gyro. But I won't go experimenting again.
I had a chance to check out Greek Corner Restaurant last week with my friend, Wynonna J., who felt that Greek Corner was one of the better restaurants in Davis Square. With that ringing endorsement and being new to the area, I was excited to give this place a try.
We went on a Friday night, and I thought the service was good. Our vegetarian sampler appetizer came out in a matter of minutes, which was key because we were both really hungry. I could tell Wynonna J. was fading fast, when our conversation decreased rapidly to my uninterrupted monologues, though I think I put on a great show.
As an appetizer, the vegetarian sampler plate is delicious. It is a plentiful assortment of grape leaves, spinach pie, hommus, tabouleh, feta cheese, and eggplant salad. It is perfect to split between two people. As far as entrees, I would especially recommend the chicken gyro. It is a delicious deal at $5.75 as it is stuffed with flavorful marinated chicken with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.
LOVE Greek Corner! It's one of our favorite local haunts. With a chef-husband, we're not super-easy to please...but we never leave unhappy when we eat here, which is generally a few times a month. We generally get to-go, as it's a little more restful to eat at home, as it can get a little noisy later in the day, but nothing beats having a heavenly gyro with a cold Mythos on a hot summer evening. Greek fries are a MUST too...
My mother insists on eating here at least twice when she visits- we'd never be forgiven if we skipped it. The seasoning is just right- they're not afraid of garlic, and cook their meats to a point of doneness where everything is still juicy and flavorful. YUM. Another reason to love North Cambridge.
I love you Greek Corner. Thank you for existing.
I came on a Friday night with a big group of gals and we only had to wait a few minutes for a table. Service was fast and the tables had cute paper place mats of Greece. After reading all the raving reviews for the gyro, I order the gyro sandwich with Greek fries. The gyro was AMAZING. Almost our whole table got one and we all loved it! The Greek fries were nothing special...just normal fries with parmesan cheese and some herbs on top.
One thing to keep in mind: after stuffing your face with delicious Greek food, you will smell like it afterward. Even after brushing your teeth and your tongue, the garlic and onion taste and smell will still linger. Probably not the best thing to eat before going to a bar and trying to meet people (like we did). Even a few cold beers didn't wash down the taste. But, let's be honest....it was so worth it!
I've been writing draft after draft of this. . . my favorite was in a Herodetus-esque kinda thing, but I couldn't get it to gel so I'll say this.
This place is legendary and has been around forever. Long enough that Herodetus himself wrote about it. Fan-friggin-tastic with all the accouterments that one might expect from a Greek joint: Mediterranean scenes, hard chairs, and paper placemats. OH! and Delicious food! The dolmades were little balloons of flavor and the Gyros. . .Ahhhh the gyros. . the true measure of any greek place
The gyros suck.
Don't get the regular gyros. It's that ground homogenized crap. If you want the real thing. the real tasty tender melt-inyour-mouth thing, get the lamb sammich,
So tender, so flavorful, so delicious. Just as Zeus ordered all those thousands of years ago.
Yeah, they're that good.
So. Greek corner, I salute you. And if you let me back in I promise to keep my pants on this time!
SERIAL!
Really cute, really delicious.
Cozy up in a booth and order the house red and some starters. The fried zucchini is light and wonderful, the fried eggplant tossed with a subtle citrus sauce even better. The spanakopita is flaky and buttery, the falafel flavorful and adorned with generous servings of hummus and tabouleh.
Leave room for the mains, though. Dinner plates come with a wonderful rice (or fries) and a Greek salad with a block of good feta. I sampled the gamut of meats. Souvlaki was satisfying and gyro was tangy with a killer tzatziki, but the lamb kebab was overdone. The pasticchio is a lovely comfort food, with ground beef and pasta baked in a creamy bechamel.
Finish with coffee and you've just had a wonderful, homestyle Greek meal.
Great gyros + plates. Friendly service. Bright, nicely decorated space. The mural whisks you away to the Mediterranean! Greek Corner is the perfect "cheap eats" spot. Yum!
p.s. Get the Greek Fries!
Love the Greek Corner! Still not sure how to pronounce Gyro, but it is delicious every time. Go for the pilaf. Avoid the fries.
I've lived near this place for over two years now and finally decided to check it out a few weeks back. This place is so amazing!
I am not a red meat-eater so I can't tell you how their lamb is or their Gyros but their vegetarian sampler plate is so freakin' good! The hummus is thick and yummy, the bread is fresh and delicious, the tabbouleh is spicy and the stuffed grape leaves tasty. I loves me some calamari and this is some of the best squid out there! I also love their rice and swordfish kabobs; thick and juicy! Also, they are not stingy with their portions and the price is right. I also highly recommend washing everything down with their European iced coffee; thick and dark and syrupy! They also serve booze, try a Greek beer like Mythos. Man, I wish I was there right now.
Wow look I am the 100th review, do I get a prize?
Anway, I went here last night for dinner with my parents based on the Yelp reviews. I have to say the food was great but the restaurant was a little loud. The friendly service and the great food made up for it though. I ordered the vegetarian grape leaves (A+), the baked lamb which is served with rice and some kind of tomoato based sauce on top of it was very tender and flavorful as well (A+).
Well worth the trip - great price, good food..
Every time I eat here it gets better and better. Ahhhhhhhhhhh...

Great food - worth the wait for a table - service can be a little spotty because they are so busy.
Are you hungry? Get ready for this. Climb the stairs to Greek Corner, rain or shine, and order yourself a SOUVLAKI PLATE. Get the fries or the rice with it, either way will be TASTY. Have some tziki on the side to dip your meat and pita into. The same dude behind the counter will always be there. He's quick with the orders and the change (and make sure you have ACTUAL change, because this place does not take cards). Wash it all down with an icy cold Coke from the mini-fridge next to the counter, and OPA! - you're in a taverna in Athens. Only minus the noise from speeding "motos" (Vespas) and the salivation of stray cats and dogs. Instead, you can check out that creepy puppet show guy across the street in front of Bertucci's, or take your food away with you and do some of your own salivating in private. Mmmm...MEAT.
I'd passed by this place several times and never stopped or thought twice of it. Enter the Duke. That's right, none other than Massachusetts own Michael Dukakis...in fact, this is a long story but I'll cut it short. The Duke had a catered speaking engagement. I was there. Greek Corner was the caterer. The offerings were delicious. I've been falling all over myself to get here ever since.
I'd peg the decor as cozy kitsch. There's a mural of some idyllic Greek Island on the wall with seven people on it. Don't ask me how I know it's seven, or why I cared in the first place. There's a hutch in the rear of the largest part of the dining room whose shelves are bowing under the weight of several bottles of Greek wine. The place is family friendly and as Class Act noted, maybe a little too close to Arlington. The menu is straightforward so we got to business with a saganaki appetizer, gyro and lamb souvlaki combos.
The saganaki appetizer wasn't exactly saganaki as I remembered it. This was more a dish of melted flaming cheese. My saganaki, of delicious memory, held form when grilled or fried. I didn't let that detail stop me from eating it though. The gyro was delightfully seasoned and the lamb souvlaki was grilled to perfection, not overly dry or charred. The salad accompanying one combo plate was limp and pitiful but the fries accompanying the other? Piping hot and crispylicious. The taramosalata was creamy, lemony and salty and provided a great dipping sauce for my fries.
The service was marginal. Our wait was about 15 minutes. The place was packed, but several people who were seated after we were received their dinners before we did despite the fact that we'd only ordered two sandwiches fries and a salad. We had no room for dessert, but weren't disappointed. When your belly is filled with deliciousness who cares from whence it came? We now have the perfect equation for a dinner for two with room for dessert, one sandwich combo with fries, one sandwich... DESSERT! Better luck next time.
Were it not for yelp, I would never have touched this place. One look at it makes you wonder whether you've died and woken up in 1970 when this was an exotic European diner.
Though the decor hasn't aged well, the ingredients are timeless: outstanding food, at a cheap price with friendly, if occasionally slow service. I've made this my new favorite place for a lazy Sunday lunch. The comfort food and laid back vibe makes it a perfect place to hang out with friends and forget that tomorrow is Monday.
Great vegetarian combination plate. I went with two friends and a baby, and we were able to find a table with stroller parking at 11:45 AM, right before it got busy. As others have said, the waitstaff takes its time to come around to the table, but I think it's really a test they administer: "Hah! Let's see if these chicks can endure the delicious aromas wafting from our kitchen, without freaking out and waving one of us down! If so, we'll serve them!" Sort of like MTV's Boiling Points, without the hidden cameras and monetary rewards. Who needs money, anyway, when you have scrumptious grape leaves, crispy falafel, and to-die-for tabouleh? Not I!
Back to food, here's the low down on the things I ate:
Tabouleh appie: lemony, tangy, salty, and awesome where it counts. Comes with kickass pita bread.
Vegetarian Combo Plate: Grape leaves, spanakopita, falafel (1), grape leaves (2), a huge pile of hummus, and fries (about 17). Everything was grape (haha, I mean great)! Spana was savory, falafel was flavorful, and the fries were fabulous.
Coffee: Wow - I really liked the coffee. Maybe it's because I only stock the half-caf shit in my house, but this drove me to Jittersville with one cup alone. So I had two.
Baklava: Got two pieces to go, and TRIED to bring one home for hubby but made the mistake of eating mine in the car. Then his. So I didn't give him the empty bag... i just told him lunch was good and suggested we go there for lunch sometime during the week.
Yes, play nice-y nice-y with the waitstaff, and they'll love you forever. Be patient, and pretend you're actually in Greece on vacation. The wait won't seem as long that way.
We had a craving for gyros and were pleased to find the Greek Corner nearby for lunch. The gyros were fantastic with warm pita bread, fresh veggies, savory lamb, and just the right amount of tzatziki sauce. We also tried the Greek fries which are sprinkled with lemon juice, oregano, and cheese. The friendly service was a little slow to take orders but our food was delivered fairly quickly. Overall a great local spot for fresh Greek food.
It can be a little noisy in Greek Corner, but the energy definitely lends itself to a warm atmosphere. The walls are beautifully painted with inviting scenery of Greece. The lamb souvlaki plate is decently priced and very good. The lamb's not really gamey but tender and flavorful. The sides were fresh as well. You feel like you're being treated as a guest at someone's home with the friendliness and warmth of the service.
Been here a couple times now and it hasn't failed to impress. The cheap roll-ups are a good option if you are on a budget. Service is good considering the crowd that we encountered both times we were there.
Location: -1 star.
Price: +1 star
Verdict: 5 stars
Way too far for me to go on a whim... but the gyros make it worth the long travel. Yes I waited 30mins in 13 degree weather for the 77 to take me there. But the gyro was so worth it! (I think it's the pita they use...)
Their food is excellent. I particularly enjoyed their falafels, hummus and Greek fries. I'm not a fan of the moussaka, but that might just be a difference in preference.
It's difficult to find good Greek places in the city that satisfy my cravings...and am happy to say this one hits the spot!
I have lived in Greece (though I am not personally Greek) and am extremely picky about Greek food in the US. From other reviewers, perhaps this would have been a different experience at dinnertime than lunchtime. The service was OK. The waitstaff delivered the wrong entree to me and didn't notice our waving her down till my dining companion actually got up and went over to tell her. When she came back, she seemed more amused than concerned, blaming the chef for putting the wrong plate on our tray. Later, when we were trying to pay the bill that had been delivered, she was too busy typing text messages on her cellphone to notice our again trying to flag her, and again my dining companion had to go over to her to get service. My fellow diner said that she was probably overwhelmed at being the only person waiting tables at the time we were there (there were perhaps 6-8 occupied tables), but I didn't see that as an excuse to be standing off out of sight of most of the tables and not even bothering to check on people.
In terms of the food: As an appetizer, we ordered the tzadziki. It was pretty good, with lots of garlic (which I prefer), but it tasted to both myself and my dining companion as if the yogurt had been cut with sour cream, which is not just not traditional, but makes tzadziki taste much creamer than usual and cuts the taste of the herbs (a shame, as they tasted like they were fresh). As a main dish, I ordered the vegetarian combination plate, which consisted of a huge, bland, very atraditional salad (mostly iceberg lettuce, which I did not ever even see in Greece!) piled high in the middle, with two vegetarian-style grape leaf rolls and a piece of spanakopita (spinach-feta mix in phyllo) on one side and a giant lone falafel ball on the other side, placed smack in the middle of a little pool of hummus. Despite the inelegant placing on the plate, the grape leaf rolls were excellent, tasting distinctly like the chef had used fresh-squeezed lemon juice. The falafel ball was pretty dry (not surprisingly, as it is difficult to cook a large falafel ball the whole way through without having that happen) and the hummus was a bit gluey. The spanakopita, which was one of my favorite lunches in Greece, tasted surprisingly bland for a combination that is usually so delicious; it tasted like it was mostly spinach with a bit of feta, and as if the spinach had either been overcooked or come from the freezer, and the phyllo surprised me with its lack of flakiness. The only thing I ate out of the large centerpiece salad was the feta, which was pretty good but not the greatest I've ever tried. If I go back, I will order a plate of just the grape leaf rolls. My dining companion got the village salad as an entree, which was supposed to be done in a traditional Greek salad style, but the tomatoes were way too coarsely chopped - as if the chef had simply halved or perhaps quartered large tomatoes - and my companion said that the chef had put too much oil on the salad. At the end of the meal, there was a pile of giant pieces of tomato on the other plate to match the large pile of iceberg lettuce on mine.
If I lived closer to Greek Corner, I might be in danger of going there every day. It's a small family-owned business, and the folks who work there are extremely overworked, though you'd never know it to talk to them. They're friendly and professional, and very warm. We love the low-key atmosphere, the completely reasonable prices, and even the open seating. We have taken countless out-of-town visitors and local friends there--of all types of foody allegiances--and everyone's loved it. When we got married, we kept saying that if were were marrying in Boston, we totally would have had them host our rehearsal dinner. They're that fun, and that good. (I think they might offer some catering, but I'm not sure.)
The food! It's amazing. As someone with more than a few weird food allergies, I love that Greek Corner's foods are relatively unadorned...if you order chicken, it's basically grilled chicken marinated in a touch of lemon and basic spices...and yet each dish is so tasty as to suggest a ton of ingredients. Everything is fresh, and you can see into the kitchen from the front desk, so...they've got nothing to hide, I guess!
As for what to order, it's hard for me to stray from my favorite items, though I do vary my menu on occasion: chicken gyro sandwich is amazing, and unlike others I like their Greek salad a lot. (NB: Once in a while they'll use what tastes like a prepared salad dressing, which I hate but my husband likes; usually it's the homemade kind, my preference. You be the judge!) Hummus is incredible, a bit more liquidy and garlicky than other places. Love it. If you go late on a very busy night, sometimes you'll even get the gyro wrap bread instead of the traditional pita (if they run out of regular pita), and that stuff is like food of the gods. Spanakopita is excellent and decadent but not greasy, really packed with flavor, but not too much cheese. Also love the spanakopita plate, which comes with a salad and a side--the Greek fries are just okay in my opinion (don't like lemon on my fries), but the regular fries are unapologetically yummy. What else? My husband loves the lamb gyro and/or lamb plate (sorry, Lambchop!), but if you get this, be sure to ask for the roasted lamb, as the other kind of lamb (grilled, maybe?) is not as flavorful. I'm allergic to nuts but the hubby also swears by their baklava.
Guests we've brought have loved the avgolemono soup, very traditional, as well as the steak tips and pork chops. It's a great place to go with vegetarians since there are so many tasty choices.
Here's another tip: if it's too late/rainy/whatever to go out, you can easily call ahead and pick up (usually takes no more than ten minutes), or if you're within range diningin-dot-com will deliver, though you should beware, because diningin charges you more for each item than Greek Corner does. Something else: notice that after-hours you can park on the wall-side of the bank parking lot just past Greek Corner. Sometimes it's tough to find a spot on the street.
All in all, my favorite food-spot in the Boston area. Enjoy!!
I brought my Greek father and non-Greek mother to the Greek Corner this weekend. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy their meals. I've been here a handful of times, and the service has always been great, it's never too full and the food is scrumptious.
I got the vegetarian plate. It was the perfect amount of food. Spinach pie, hommos, falaffel, grape leaves, greek salad... yes please! My boyfriend and brother both went for the gyro sandwich plates which were HUGE. My parents both went for lamb souvlaki which looked awesome. We also split some baklava for dessert.
Great Greek food and a great place to go to try different types of Greek food if you've never had it, thanks to the combo plates.
They have a leaky air conditioner over the front door, so be sure to step in on the extreme right or left of the door. Cool? Cool.
I've only gotten take out from this place but it's always been perfection. Call ahead or just walk in, it usually takes less than 10 minutes before you're on your way to Yummytown. Okay, that was lame but I don't feel like backspacing it because I secretly like saying Yummytown.
While you're waiting, pretty much everyone there will ask you how you're doing. I check out the side chalkboard for the day's specials and immediately start cursing myself for ordering my regular (but still delicious) dish. I usually get some spanakopita or the corner special souvlaki (chunks of marinated lamb or pork in pita bread with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, parsley and cucumber yogurt sauce). Last time I came in pretty late and I remember being surprised about how good everything tasted. The meat was tender (and they weren't skimpy when it came to my pita), the ingredients tasted super fresh, and it was super saucy just like me (some may not dig this, so ask for it a little lighter if that's how you roll).
It's pretty dangerous that the prices are cheap and it's so close to my apartment!
French Fry World Tour Stop #5
Greek Fries, my friends, is the menu item under scrutiny today. That's some nationalistic chauvinism there, right? Like "Oh, yeah, sure, we gave the world democracy, but McDonald's still owes us royalties for that other thing." There's some food items I regard as indisputably Greek. Kalamata olives? Greek. That salty pink fishy stuff that I can never remember the name of? Greek. Any combination of spinach and feta cheese ever in the history of the universe? Greek. Fries? Well, to be honest, the Greek Corner does a pretty decent job of convincing me that the French have managed to pull a major fast one on the entire world. So right on, Greek Corner, and right on, Greece. Eleutheria e Thanatos ! (Yeah, I just looked that up.)
To be honest, I'm not sure exactly what goes into the Greek Corner fries to change their nationality, but there's definitely some lemon juice, possibly vinegar, certainly oregano and a generous amount of parmesan cheese. Maybe some other things. Again, you've probably had some sort of pseudo-gourmet herbed fries that you're thinking must be similar to the Greek Corner's offering but you are WRONG. And I bet you've never had your fancy herby fries with a feta melt, which is the Official Sandwich of Greek Fries the way the hamburger is the Official Sandwich of french fries. I once tried dipping these fries in tzatziki, and it was a bit of a revelation. Eat 'em fast - they can get a little soggy. It won't be tough, I promise.

In the words of Aristotle: "All human actions have one or more of these seven causes: chance, nature, compulsions, habit, reason, passion and desire." I have come to Greek Corner for all of these.
The friendly people inside this blue and white Parthenon on Mass Ave are serving up some of the best Greek comfort food around. I highly recommend their gyro sandwiches (that's 'yee-row' to the uninitiated). I've had excellent experiences both coming here with a huge party and taking out for those nights I just want to be alone with my dolmades and souvlaki.
