I wanted to give them 4.5 star but since yelp didn't allow that I gave them 5-star. Three reasons I wanted to take out half-star are - 1) they came half hour early (inconvenience), 2) the leader Lee pushed for more tip (although the written contract clarified $5/person/hour tip), and 3) they didn't put enough blankets on my carpet in the new house before they stepped on those (although they corrected once I reminded them). However, they worked hard and completed everything quickly and diligently and finished the job in 3 hrs (the time that I thought it would take). They took care of the items very well also. I checked other companies before hiring them and GreatWall's rate was very competitive. They gave the best value for price. The other two helpers of Lee were sweating when they finished and I didn't feel bad for giving them the extra tip.

I am not changing my rating but just want to provide an update. So after harassing Great Wall with emails, phone calls, and BBB complaint. They finally responded and reluctantly agreed to reimburse me for the damage of the sofa. However, the whole time they did not admit fault and address any of my complaints.

I don't have a problem with business making a mistake, because we all do, but when they refuse to own up to their mistake, then that's just unethical business practice. I'm not saying that all these other 4 and 5 stars reviews are fake. I probably would give them a good review too if nothing went wrong during my move. But it's when things go wrong then that's when you really see the true color of people. Needless to say, I will still never use their service again.

Great Wall Moving moved me out of my 1-bedroom apartment this weekend. The apartment was on the 4th floor and our apartment is slow as hell, PLUS it was pouring outside -- but they still managed to do it in 3 hours.
Our moving team was professional and obviously knew all the ins and outs to moving things. Their prices were very reasonable, and unlike some other moving companies, they didn't charge extra for materials like boxes, tape, and blankets.
Not sure how many movers work for this company, but it seemed like the two we had didn't speak a lot of English - one spoke Spanish, the other Mandarin Chinese (I speak Chinese so this worked out pretty well for me).

I highly recommend these guys, and I will use them again!

There's a point in life when you say to yourself, "Fuck U-Haul and kissing friends' asses. I'm paying people to move for me." It signifies adulthood, me thinks. I did a week's worth of research on moving companies and picked Great Wall Moving upon recommendation of a friend.

One truck, 2 men and 2 hour minimum at $70/hour. The price is hard to beat.

Email confirmation after initial call. Phone confirmation 2 days before. Arrived half an hour early and moved my stuff in 1.5 hours (Granted, I don't have much). Fast and efficient movers. Will definitely use them again (though hopefully won't have to ).

My movers were on time, efficient, professional, and very cheap. There's a language barrier, if you don't speak mandarin, but using other forms of communication i.e. finger pointing, head nods, works perfectly fine.

No extra charge, even though my apartment was on the 3rd floor!  Definitely recommended.

It really depends which team you get. They moved us from Fremont to Walnut Creek in 7 hours, from a 3 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment and a stop a storage at the end. They were done early and I gave them a fat tip.

The second time, we just needed the truck loaded from both of the above mentioned locations, and the new team was slower (5.5 hours, no transit time), they used tape on furniture which then ripped the finish off during unpacking, and the worst: I got a shakedown on the tip at the end from one of the movers.

I really wished I had gotten the first team on the second go around, they would be getting 5 stars then.

Okay, I called the number one rated moving companies in the San Jose area because my move was from Fremont to San Jose. One company with 5 stars gave me a quote of over 800.00! this was 3 movers for 135.00 and hour- the second highest rated quoted me 3 men for 145.00 and the third gave me 3 men for 150.00 and hour! I am on a budget but was scared to get scammed or all my stuff broken- I have used movers before from Craiglist and for the most part everything was fine- sooo, I called Great Wall moving- they had 2 good reviews on YELP and everything went PERFECTLY!

3 men for 90.00 yes! you heard me right, 90.00! they arrived on time and were careful with my stuff =2/2 townhome on 2nd floor no extra charge- they took two beds apart and put them back together- NO DAMAGE! 5 hours for a total bill of 585.00 not counting tip which was about 25.00 per man- this is a good deal and they were great- the number one rated- were tooo expensive for me and Great Wall Moving was a risk that was worth it- I will use them again for sure!

Moving out of our condo to a third floor loft unit in the city (mind you without an elevator) sounded like a huge pain in the arse and dreaded the thought of it. We had friends offer to help but in the long run that still meant we were going to be doing most of the work and we really didn't want to lug all our crap up and down three stories worth of stairs (four if you count hauling it to the upstairs bedroom). It was already going to set us back $200+ to rent a U-Haul so we decided to call around for some quotes from movers. $700 (which was fair), $800, $1000. I decided to yelp "cheap movers" and came across these Great Wall. They quoted us $70 per hour for a minimum of two hours. SOLD!

I've read some hot/cold reviews so not knowing anyone who used them personally, we were pretty much taking a shot in the dark by hiring this company to do the job. We felt bad for the movers knowing the tough work that was ahead but knowing we weren't lifting all the heavy furniture the fear of not knowing what to expect sorta dissipated. We were going to make this work since my husband was going to monitor the team to make sure they weren't going to break any glass or mess up our brand new furniture we had delivered to our condo that morning.

So the big day arrives and we were given an arrival time of 2-3:00pm. 3:30 rolls around and still no sign of these movers, 3:45 and my husband calls to complain. They arrive at exactly 4:00 and by this time we are nervous. Not only are they late (their company is not that far away from where we were moving from) but it's now commuting hours and of course it's pouring outside. They already had strike one counting against them when they showed up an hour late so we were left wondering if we made a bad decision hiring these guys. At this point all we could do was hope for the best since it was too late to find new movers.

I get to our new place first (i had work that day and i drove directly over) and my husband arrives maybe about half an hour later. Because we are paying these guys by the hour, I'm thinking they are gonna take their sweet ass time getting to our place. They arrive only 30 minutes after my husband arrived which wasn't bad considering they are driving a huge truck full of our furniture and fragile items arrives.  They immediately get to work. They commented about the stairs but never complained (at least not to our face) worked continuously while we kept telling them to take short breaks and were in pretty much in good spirits the whole time. The whole ordeal was 5 hours which was beyond reasonable. We gave a $150 tip to the three guys; $50 each which at first  I wasn't sure was enough but they seemed grateful. I'd seen posts from other sites about tipping $15-20 to each mover which I personally think is an insult so we thought it was fair given the circumstance.

Had the movers been here an hour earlier like they said they would or at least communicated to us that they were going to be a bit late, I wouild have rated them a full 5-star review. Other than that, I highly recommend Great Wall and will definitely be using them again should we need moving services.

We picked Great Wall Movers based on the reviews here.  They did a good job moving; however, what brings their score down to two stars is that at the very end when I was signing the paperwork they were not satisfied with my tip.  They asked for more; when I gave them more, they were not satisfied with that.  When I gave them even more, then they finally left.  We ended up giving them a 43% tip, which is totally unacceptable.  But we were trying to avoid a scene.  If you use them make sure you that you have plenty of cash on hand.

This review is way past due. I moved into a house from a 2 bedroom apartment last year and we had almost 4 bedroom worth of stuff. They moved everything so quickly and even helped me packed some of the items packaging I was lagging on. Great team with reasonable pricing. I will use them again.

Moved a 2 bedroom apartment in Hayward (1/2 flight stairs down) to Fremont (2nd story with stairs only, but a bunch of stuff went into the 1st floor garage.

I had estimated 2 hrs to load and 1.5 hrs unload with travel time of 30 min.  The whole ordeal took 8 hrs.   5 hrs to load and 3 hrs to unload.  I was devastated.  My budget was $500.

E-mailed for a quote and got a quick response for 2 or 3 movers. $70 /hr for 2 and $90 for 3.  Minimum for 2 hrs.  I confirmed and they provided an e-mail confirmation.  Called me 2 days before to confirm.  They arrived early by a few minutes.  Had me sign the paperwork and I initialed an insurance coverage for 60 cents per pound of any item potentially damaged.  This is included in the moving costs.  They brought a pretty big Truck.  2 South American guys and a Chinese guy.  It became clear pretty fast that the 2 labor guys were not experienced by the way I could see them using the handtrucks when getting stuck on a bump (instead of pushing with ones foot, they would force it with their arms which tends to be harder and tends to unseat the stack of items on the truck as you swing the truck back and forth and side to side trying to get over the doorstep bump.  And their level of communication was poor amongst one another as though they never worked together before.  They weren't slow, but weren't fast either.

All my stuff fit into the truck after a significant effort by the Chinese gentleman.  When loading, the Chinese gentleman would stack things up to load onto a handtruck while the two Hispanics went back and forth loading the truck.  60% of the way through, the Chinese man went to the truck and began Tetrising the boxes and items already in the truck as the two other guys kept moving stuff.  They disassembled the bed and wrapped the sofas, coffee table and all other wood furnitire, shelves, TV and BBQ in Plastic wrap and put plenty of padding around them too.

I was completely packed too.  For loose items like house plants and small items that are impossible to pack well, they put them in 3 wardrobe boxes and moved those.  They provided 1 wardrobe box for the clothes and they put the clothes into the wardrobe box for me.  But they laid them in the box rather than hanging them so everything ended up a bit wrinkled.  Didn't expect that.

When it came time to pay, they would only take cash, cashiers check or credit card (no AMEX).  But to do a credit card you have to pay an additional 3% of the total.

When signing the paperwork, they commented about a tip.  With the excessive time, I put $60 and they got upset and called me cheap and said that it should be $150.  Not wanting to cause a scene, I went ahead and paid it.

Nothing was broken and they were all very careful with everything.  Communication was difficult as they only spoke Spanish or Mandarin and very little English.

I should have had them come over before the move to provide an estimate.  I was surprised that it was not part of their process when booking.  With mediocre labor effort which probably cost the move 2 hrs, I'm pretty sure I won't use them again.  I'll never do a move again without an estimate.  I feel really burned.
