Oh. My. Goodness. I am TIRED! The race was really, really intense. 30 minutes into it, I was swearing at myself for wearing 3 layers of clothes to a freaking race. And how did I NOT have the foresight to choose my running shoes in lieu of my Chucks? Aside from my poor wardrobe decisions, I had a lot of fun.
Even though the protest in Hollywood threw everyone a curve ball, it was still a light hearted race that had teams working with one another and comforting those who were feeling exhausted, grumpy, and hungry. While some of the locations we went to didn't showcase LA's finest (meaning it STANK like homeless people and rancid milk), I learned a lot about my city and actually got to appreciate some cool new things.
I really would like to participate again next year and next time, I hope to place in the top 25 teams (they get medals).
***And a special thanks to Yelp (especially Veronica R.) for coming out to the event and giving away a lot of cool things! Yay for the Wheel-o-Yelp! I hope to see it at future events! I looove spinning wheels. No joke.
This is my second year doing the GUR and I'd say the organizers have continued to do a better job making sure the race runs smoothly. There were far more teams this year as 488 teams competed compared to 203 last year, the atmosphere is pretty nuts and it's comical seeing people in orange shirts and other customs (props to the power ranger guys who should have won best costume) running around the city for 3-5 hrs. Overall this is a really fun adventure, and a great way to kill a few hours getting to know the city. The best part though, My partner and I finished in the top 25 and qualified for the finals. New Orleans here we come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A great way to explore the city! A great way to learn our Metro system. A great day! Do it!
What an adventure! Yes, it's a scavenger hunt. Yes, it's like "The Amazing Race." Yes, it's something you should try.
this race is the sh*t! do it! you'll walk away with great memories & great photos (you have to take pics along the way). Racing around LA on a Saturday taking public transit....what could be more fun?! :o)
