NEVER AGAIN.
$25 for a pedicure....
"only" $5 more for a leg massage.
they charge extra for the leg massage? don't most places include a leg massage in their pricing?? Anyway, so she's painting my toenails, and when she's done with the color she sends me over to get my manicure done. My manicure was soooo rushed by this lady, she didn't even sit down to do my nails. she stood up next to me and held my hand out to paint my nails! I wanted a relaxing mani/pedi, but I didn't feel relaxed at all.... just rushed! And in the middle of my manicure, she stops and takes a walk in customer to the back to wax her eyebrows, uhmmm helloooo, you're not done with my manicure yet! Then in the middle of finishing up my manicure, the other lady who did my pedicure comes back to ask if i want a flower on my toes so I agree to it, because i've never gotten one before. She kneels down and grabs my foot and puts it on her knee while she's squatting. So i have my foot up on some lady's knee, and my hands in the air for someone to paint. Couldn't even paint my nails over her little desk, or ask me to sit back in the chair for a couple more minutes to paint a little flower on it. When they put the clear finishing coat on, they just blobbed on a thick layer, didnt even try to even it out at all, they just slapped it on top. When my nails were dry i had bubbles everywhere, and thick lumps from the nail polish. It didnt even look pretty, so i took it off after 2 days. What a waste.
Not good service at all.
This place is horrible- It's dirty, the workers are rude and gossip all day long (I can tell even though I'm not Vietnamese), their polish selection is skimpy and random, they try to sell you every service they offer, etc etc. The last time I was there, the girl didn't even put my slippers back on after my pedicure. I had to flag someone else down to help me - some grumpy looking lady that helped me reluctantly. The only good thing is that you usually don't have to wait for the service. But now you know why....
Thanks to this place I now develop a nervous tick anytime someone comes near my little toe with a metal object of any sort. Perhaps too much information, but I have this funky nail situation on my little toe where part of the nail grows thicker and bumpier than the rest. Every other nail salon I've gone to, both pre and post Great Nails, has recognized that it is not cuticle or skin, and should not be removed as if it was.
But, nooooo, not at Great Nails. As I sat there unassumingly reading a magazine, I was jolted by a shot of pain travelling from my little toe up my leg. I looked down to see blood and the technician fumbling for some cotton balls. She insightfully says, "Oh, is that a nail?" I was speechless. She had cut the whole thing off and now my toe was throbbing with pain. I hobbled out of there and luckily did not develop an infection.
I'm still waiting for a "sorry".
MY RATING IS FOR KIM.
I come here SOLELY for waxing, haha. The reviews for nails sound so terrible, I will never try it, but I will continue to walk pass all of the manicure, pedicure, and hair stations to get to the back of the salon where I will be waxed by a caring and friendly lady named Kim!
I don't like to get my eyebrows waxed even though it is quick and just as efficient, but if I ever need to, Kim's my lady and she does a beautiful job!
Decent pricing too! $10 eyebrows, $5 upper lip, $12 underarms, $25 brazilians (I've yet to try that, haha).
Kim is off on Tuesdays!
By the way, if you're getting anything other than your eyebrow waxed, I suggest that you make an appointment so that all you have to do is walk in and say that you have an appointment with Kim. The ladies at the front will not keep their voices down with whatever service you are there for. How embarrassing!
I saw a customer's nails - looked cute, so thought I'd try this place out. The ladies that worked on me were nice, but the lady that did my Pedicure kept upselling and I kept saying "No, next time". She did it anyway. And then, the lady that was doing my manicure - did a horrible job, because I went back 2 days later to complain about my chipped nail. And the Owner insisted to just get that nail done for free, because the others can last another 1 week, but they looked like they were going to come off in a minute. I'm not kidding.
Next lady did my nails, and she did a horrible job! She didn't even "gel" up my one nail properly. It broke after one day!
The only reason why I went here was for their cute tips, that's it! Other than that HORRIBLE! I used to always go to Jenny Nails off of Capital!
I go to this place to get French Pedicure and Eyebrow Waxing periodically. My pedicure lasts for a whole month, I swear. Go for the extra $5 foot treatment they offer, as it'll make below your legs feel smooth and soft. I have tried different employees and have not encountered any issues.
I also like how they shape and trim my eyebrows.
They don't have the ambiance, but can't complain their low prices.
For all the ladies who like to have their nails done before going on a date. I guarantee your nails will look gorgeous, clean, and polish. No charge for hands massage but make sure you close your eyes tightly to feel the nice rubbing. Don't worry about getting your feet infected with fungus. This is the cleanest nail spa who really sterilize the tools
. Ask for Kim with facial or waxing. She is off Tuesday.
Good
1) Later hours
2) Many chairs available
3) The fact that I had a gift certificate there
Bad
1) Language barrier
2) Burned my fingertips on the hot ass oil and lotion
3) French manicure already starting to chip. IT'S BEEN LIKE 2 DAYS!
4) Constantly being asked to upsell to fake nails, flower designs, extra massages, waxing, blah blah blah.
5) Nail lady didn't put my nails under a nail dryer, but told me to "Be careful." (I sat there until they dried!)
Elizabeth L. ~ I had the same conversation with my nail ladies!
I have gone here twice, first just because my regular nail place was booked and the mall location is convenient and the second time because I saw a nail tip pattern I just had to get. I got my nails done by one of the younger girls both times and they do a great job! I am very picky and mention every single speck of dust I see on my nails, and they fix it with no problem, even when nails are dry. Also I like that they do not leave the acrylic too thick. They are always trying to sell their other products and it gets pretty annoying, but my nails lasted 3 weeks without lifting in any place. I got a student discount, but they still were on the more costly range and they even charged me to clean up cuticles. I will go to them again, since they have great designs.
Good, clean place to get your nails and toes done! Walkins welcome -- which is the key for me. The place seems clean, has a sterilizer in plain sight and they clean out their pedicure tubs well.
Be careful, though... the staff tries to sell you on everyother service they provide -- key word here, "no thank you".
A recent french gel overlay manicure will bring me back soon!
This place is a bit nice, but after my last experience I'm NEVER going back!
I went the day before my Senior Ball to get my nails done. That was my fourth visit there and I was acquainted with some of the ladies. I told them explicitly that I have eczema on my hands, so I asked that they were careful when handling my hands; otherwise, the wounds might open and start to bleed. Not only did the woman open one of my wounds, she made me bleed twice more when she was merely filing the side of my nail to be straight. I tried to ignore the pain but my friends could see the grimace on my face...
It may seem stupid to go and get my nails done if my hands are that fragile, but I went to Great Nails for that special occassion because previously they had given me great tips without the pain.
And I do agree that they are always trying to get you to spend more, but what nail salon isn't?
I'm being generous with the stars. I'd give it only one had it not been for the good work on the pedi.
The constant upselling is super-irritating. It's almost insulting that they think a person would have no clue about what they're up to.
The french mani started chipping the same day.
Need I go on? I'm going back to my regular place. I wish they were open on Sundays, but hey, I understand needing days off.
I seem to have the same problems as others have posted. The chipping nails, poor communication and the constant up-sell. BUT that's pretty much what I expected going in there so I wasn't too upset. The lady who did me was really, really nice. They just want to make some money like the rest of us. I said "not this time" and she was fine with it.
I go here primarily for waxing.Gwen takes care of me everytime. The main reason I like her, is because she is quiet.
After reading the below reviews I agree, the ladies are gossipy, always trying to upsell. Also, they are stuff out of nightmares with their "tools" and constant need to poke you.
I still sometimes, get a quick mani-pedi (only) and a foot scrub. All through that, I am aware of them discussing me and my feet etc in their language.Ive learnt to ignore that! All in all, I like the price and how fast Its all done.
I got my hair done here once in curls which she didnt do a half bad job with too.
I went here to replace the crappy French manicure I got at Skin Care and Nail Nook. The manicurist, Bonnie, was super nice and agreed to do stripes on my nails. She was very careful and always checked with me before proceeding. And, she only charged me $10.
I don't remember if she put a base coat on my nails. But my manicure lasted for about a week, more or less.
I also had a gel manicure here a couple of years ago and it was decent.
This place is great if you want something quick and simple. And they may even fulfill your little requests unlike Nail Nook and Nail and Tan America.
they have great designs here. staff isnt very friendly, they try to upsell and ask if you wna get ur eyebrows done and etc. they always like to talk among themselves, which isnt a good thing if ure tryna satisy a customer.
i've been coming here for almost a year & a half.. the only reason why i come here is because they have the pattern that i love! yes, they do hustle & ask if you want your waxing, haircuts, etc. but don't let that get to you! foreal though, i agree they do have bad service..talk a lot of shit, yell in your ears with their gossip across the room & whats funny.. they don't have a set price, sometimes.
Pricing Situation #1:I came to get another set of nails to be done before work and i always remembered their price + student discount (always ask how much before getting them done because they could always hustle for more) & they increased the price! If I hadn't known, I wouldn't have spent $45 including tip on a set because it was only $28 (no tip) before. Anyway! always ask!
Nail Attendant Situation #2: It took me 3 attempts to find my favorite nail attendant. I hate the old ladies.. there's one in particular who gets on my nerves. If you see her, you would know who I'm talking about. She's the one that ALWAYS sits at the front left nail desk with light brown hair, hella old, tattooed eye brows and attacks people when they walk by, supposedly her greeting, "Hi, want to get yo nail done?" & these people she greets are outside the salon are people just shopping?! like wth? hahaha its pathetic! asian hustlers, foreal.
Anyway! what made me stick with this nail salon the most was Bonnie. Bonnie is so nice and always careful at certain details. Ever since last summer, she's always been the one I look for..& when shes not available, I would leave because every nail attendant there sucks and doesn't really give a shit in accomplishing 'great nails' but Bonnie! :) Bonnie works Thursday-Sunday & off Mon-Wed. (duh!) She's good for both mani & pedi & she doesn't hustle!
-BAD: they do try and hustle while you get your nails done persuading their customers for a wax &/or haircut..but just be blunt and tell them HELLL NAH! Since they know me, they've never asked me or hustled me in a while. If they talk shit in their language, fuck it.. they're asians thats what they do! get your nails done & get out of there!
-when the day is slow for them, they sit around the back area of their salon and paints each others toe nails or fingers. it's quite interesting.. observe it and let me know, i'm not the only one that seen these nail people do it...sometimes they even read magazines and gossip.
-GOOD: the location IN the mall. shopping and getting beautiful nails at the same time & day without having to drive is awesome!
-Bonnie! the only one who doesn't talk smack or if she does, she laughs and still concentrates at what shes doing.
p.s. why can't any other race be nail attendants?!? why do they have to be all vietnamese? ugh! at least have respectful vietnamese that don't a lot of shit.
UNBELIEVABLE :(
its my third time here. why oh why did i go here.
the first time was to get gel acrylics or whatever. it was nothing memorable.
the second time was for a french pedicure. i liked my pedicure. i dont remember how long it lasted. but anyway, i do remember the women constantly up selling me even though i really didnt want a facial or a eyebrow/upper lip wax. i gave in to the eye brow wax... i thought i needed one anyway. it was not the best eyebrow wax ive ever had... because she proceeded to give me any eyebrow wax while i was sitting in the pedicure massage chair. not good.
i recently got a manicure and it was the worse experience by far. first the woman kept asking me if i wanted white tips... no way. no acrylics or gel for me. i just wanted a manicure. but she noticed that my cuticles were dry so she offered me a cuticle treatment for an extra $5. ok they are dry. so she brought over some yummy scented lotion in a portable lotion warmer. she told me to dip my nails in it and the purple lotion was hot as all fcuk. it gave me a minor burn on my ringfinger. unbelievable. i dont understand why that woman was handling my fingers so damn firmly. damn. she was sooo damn rough on my cuticles and it hurt a few times.. at least i didnt bleed. I had a hard time picking out my nail polish after all that. when i finally pick an OK color i went back to my seat. the nail polish was so f'ing old and thick.. WTF man.. its going to take three days to really dry this shit up. i end up fudging my nails in front of the fan. when she finally came back i told her that i didnt like the color and that i wanted to change it AND that i want to go to the beauty palace around the corner for my own nail polish. so i left and came back.
and guess what! she doesnt remove the old thick nail polish on my fingers but get this... she puts the my new nail polish on top of the old shit. oh yea... the the old woman there sits right next to me... asking if i want to try her facials... noooooo thanks.. she just sat there. next to me. fcuk c'mon now!!!
after waiting to dry this thick nail polish in front of the fan... the lady moves me to the blue light dryer thing. after a while the same old lady comes back to give me top coat. OMFG she didnt even give a damn. she gave me thick dollops of top coat on each finger but she didnt even coat the entire nail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@%$^$&#$@$#^
its like she just coated the middle... but she gave me soo much top coat. so much that after two hours after that top coat.. i fudged my nails.
this place is just not right.
Worst experience ever, and i went here twice. I thought my second visit would be better, but it was worse. I don't think they clean their instruments after each use because the lady used her same box with all her stuff on the other lady that was after me. For the price of their services, it's not even worth it. You can find a better, cleaner place somewhere else. It's not sanitary at all!!!! Plus they keep insisting that you get the extra "massage, exfoliating scrub for an additional 5 bucks" And they keep hounding me for waxing and other stuff as well.
the women ARE gossipy... they were talking about me in vietnamese, until i opened my own mouth to ask them politely to make my "first" time good, because i had no idea what a pedicure was like prior to that day...
startled by my being able to understand and communicate back in their own language, they went on about buttering me up and asking me what i wanted.
they did a wonderful job my first time - but i noticed the cleanliness of things werent as id have wished it to be... they scrubbed the hell out of my feet though - even though it made me sorta squirm and uncomfortable, that was the BEST glow my feet ever had after a pedi. after coming here several times, ive noticed they will scrub the heck outta your feet, but the paint job wont be a guarantee as to whether youll like it or not.
afterwards, when i returned - all times were half-assed. they no longer wanted to impress me to keep me as a returning client anymore, so i meerly just STOPPED RETURNING. it is a nice advantage to go out with a friend and get a pedi while shopping though... however, ive come to the realization that mall pedi's arent worth the trouble unless you are there on a weekDAY - during the slow hours. theyll invest more time on you and theres no rush to empty out the chair for the next client.
the only pros to mani/pedi's in the great mall? shopping drunk with your girlfriend after hitting up the afternoon happy hour at dave and buster's... THEN go for the mani/pedi treatment. that is a good day in itself, but plan accordinly!
A little lame for a pedicure experience. The spa chair wasn't completely working, the massage controls were busted. The attendant did a decent job. Although she could use a bit of restraint in scrubbing my feet. It was too intense for me as I have sensitive skin. Worse, they charge extra for the feet rub.
There was this really pushy lady who asked me at least 4 times if I wanted an eye brow wax, a facial and some other service they offer. I declined all because I was starting to get annoyed.
I wasn't pressured into anything. However, they did make me bleed when cutting my cuticles. My lady was nice though. She claimed it was because of the new cutters and apologized profusely. My friend's woman on the other hand tried to ignore it, but even hours after my friend's cut still bled. I think 20 bucks is a little bit too much for a french manicure considering at the beauty college they won't cut you and it looks the same for only $6.
I walked in when the mall was closing so I was surprised they still took my friend and I. They were annoying with the constant up selling though. They kept asking me if I wanted my eyebrows waxed and if I wanted a manicure. I don't like to have my eyebrows pencil thin, thank you very much! The manicurist, Holly tried to sell me the flower designs which were both $5 each, which were definitely not worth it! My pedicure looked great until I went swimming 5 days later and the white tips are dirty now because the top coat wasn't strong enough. This place is definitely not worth it. The french pedicure with flowers was definitely not worth $30.
I went in for a simple pedicure because and a week later I'm having trouble walking because the the technician - who I could not communicate with because of language difficulties - did something to my big toe. Need I say more? Oh, yes - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
This place, exactly like other people said, staff is extremely gossipy and not careful about their customers..
I had my acrylic/jel done twice there, I got wounded by the drill each time and they didnt even say anything until i said "that hurts", then they just simply said " sorry".
Also, they are so obsessed with talking/chatting loud to each other. If you are talking, you must be distracted from focusing on your job.
They did a moderate job but the unconcerned attitude made me really uncomfortable.
