Great Lakes Chinese Restaurant

Update over 10 years later... they no longer offer buffet, which I used to go to almost every weekend. It has been takeout only since the pandemic, and they show no signs of ever re-opening the dining/buffet area. Takeout only. The food is still on point, but I really miss the buffet.

The food is great! The service we fast and friendly! It's nice to have a great Chinese restaurant in Hudsonville.

The service was out standing they have a great take out service. Prices reasonable. The food was mediocre at best. The egg rolls and crap meat Rangoon were fried to a crisp. The boneless spare ribs weee dry and the General Taos chicken was more breading and sauce than actual chicken. Maybe not try them when they are busy with dinner pick ups. We won't be back.

Great Lakes has been a local favorite for me for years. They located very close to my home do it is very convenient. Staff are always friendly and they have a pretty broad menu. They offer a lot of combo options for reasonable prices. The sweet and sour chicken and orange chicken are my favorites.
Normally they offer dine in options with a buffet, but right now due to COVID and staffing shortages they are only open for carry out. You can s add map order from their website. The turn around time is pretty quick even if you order on site.

Called and order takeout - the lady on the phone was friendly and the food was ready on time but after that it was kind of downhill.

The food itself was pretty awful. We got a Mongolian Beef and General Tso's combo plate - both the beef and the chicken were over cooked and the sauce was not at all correct. Both tasted very bland like it was just plain soy sauce. The egg rolls were 100% shredded cabbage with no flavor either. And finally, the rangoons were 100% cream cheese - no crab or any other flavor.

We ended up throwing out the majority of the food.

Bring back the Buffet!!! Since COVID the buffet has been closed supposedly because of lack of staffing. Not sure why they can't get workers but we miss it. If they ever do fully reopen the place could use a major facelift. We have gone here for 15+ years and it has never changed. We do take- out a couple of times a month and have been pleased with the food quality and taste.

I was a little hesitant to order takeout from a buffet restaurant that is no longer doing buffets, but I did a few weeks ago and it was delicious. I ordered last weekend and they forgot to put the shrimp in my order. I sent a Facebook message, and within 30 minutes, they called me back and left me a voicemail. They graciously remade my dish a week later when I was able to get back. It was delicious, fresh, and I will definitely be back.

Pretty good Chinese carryout. Food is good, nothing blowing my hair back, but good consistent quality and reasonably priced. The portions are great too. We will be back, mainly for the convenience and I know what I'm getting when I order. So a solid 3 stars. Nothing bad, but not really outstanding. Just reliable and good.
