7 reviews for Great Adirondack Steak & Seafood
We were visiting Lake Placid for the night and wanted to hit a bustling restaurant for dinner along the main road. This restaurant looked popular and well-packed.
Ordered the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer, which was delicious. The clam chowder hit the spot on this chilly night, but upon asking for cracker, we got stale oyster crackers. -10 points. Ugh. I ordered the pasta sonoma dish for dinner, which looked more appealing than it actually tasted. Bland linguini pasta with some cilantro, chicken, and shrimp. The shrimp was definitely the highlight.
Couldn't pass up on dessert and ordered the house specialty: the chocolate perversion. Not the most appealing dessert name, but the tower of chocolate ice cream and chocolate mousse with hot fudge and whipped cream piled on top of a brownie was pretty good.
P.S. If it's your birthday, the waiter announces it to the whole restaurant, and everyone there sings to you.
If I'm in the mood for a steak and a beer when in Lake Placid this is the place I think of - always good food, the beers and the root bear are great and they are super friendly - the kids I brought with me also enjoyed the smile fries with their meal! They also do a pretty good breakfast there as well and sitting outside is a great way to do a little people watching!
My friend an I went there for dinner on a weeknight, it was pretty busy, so that must be a good sign. First i was wondering about the noise and stuff until i realized that they did not play any kind of music or something.
We started with the stuffed mushrooms appetizer and it tasted very good, i ordered the scampi plate and my friend the lobster and scampi.
mine was good but i definitely liked the appetizer more then the main course. We had the baked apple for dessert and this dish was very tasty as well. over all it was not bad, but i just don't like that thing they do up here where you order and then you get those salad and baked, mashed or fried potato choices with any main course you order. It feels like answering a big questionnaire instead of ordering food, and waiters usually just babble it out in a boring way, because they have to repeat it a hundred times a day or so.
LOVE their beer. I take home growler of this stuff whenever I'm down there.
Best place in town for beer. They brew their own beer and in my opinion the "avalanche" beer is absolutely amazing and its got an alcohol content of 8.7%. Drinking about 4 of these after a full day of snowboarding on Whiteface mountain sure makes for an interesting night. The food here is really good as well, I ordered the rib-eye dinner special and it was perfectly cooked and had good flavor. My other friends had seafood dishes that they really enjoyed, plus they give great portions here. I will definitely come back to eat here when I return next year.
The facade makes this place look like any other steak and seafood restaurant. Upon entering, it still looks like any other steak and seafood restaurant. The ambience is very casual and it can be very crowded especially during lunchtime in the weekends. The place is heavily decorated with interesting antiques. But, for us, it was the service and the food that set it apart from other establishments in Lake Placid.
As usual, we had both kids in tow. We were first led into the main dining area but when we requested a corner to put our baby (who was in her car seat) in, the receptionist gladly accommodated us into a semi-private annex. It made our dining experience much more relaxed and pleasant. And despite our being apart from the waiting traffic, we didn't have much trouble being served. Our waitress checked on us regularly to see if we needed anything.
The steak & seafood dishes we ordered were good. The restaurant offers Kraft Mac N' Cheese and Oreo cookies for kids. And when my daughter's order came in, she was delighted to find potato fries shaped into smiley faces.
Also, this place brews their own beer and makes their own rootbeer. Try the sampler (7 shots of different beers) for less than 10 bucks. They're served in an apparatus that's very in tune with the Adirondacks. And for a few extra dollars, you can buy their glasses as a souvenir.
We would go back to this place because it serves good food and drinks and it's very family-friendly. I was surprised that they had a changing table inside the women's room! Not a lot of places around here have that bathroom feature.

I've been here many times while visiting family. The food is delicious, the ambience is great - as expected for a Steak & Seafood place in the mountains.
My husband and I went there for dinner for our 1-year anniversary and had a wonderful night. Both our dinners were amazing - he had the Shrimp Scampi served over a half-lobster and I had the steak sandwich. We would recommend both dishes.
Our waitress was sub-par, which is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. She started off well but as the night went on and she got busier, she basically ignored us unless we flagged her down. But she was very pleasant to deal with and we were on vacation so we weren't feeling rushed.
Would recommend highly to anyone visiting Lake Placid.
