On many occasions, I have had a great experience at Grapevine. On fewer, a mediocre one. I haven't been there in about a year and a half, so I'm not sure if the ownership has changed, but in the time I was there, I found it to be a great place to go for a girls' night out. My friends and I enjoyed going in a group of about 6-10 people, although I went with fewer. The way we structured it, we ordered a Greek salad (which was okay), and then a couple orders of hummus with lamb, some babaghanouj, a couple orders of halloumi (magical), a couple orders of falafel (which is great there, most of the time, terrible sometimes), a couple orders of cheese borak (like a cheese egg roll), and sometimes a couple other things. I've only had an entree there a few times because we found the appetizers to be so much better. The cheese borak definitely tasted like it might have been frozen and then reheated, because it was occasionally cold inside. But when it wasn't, it was delightful. Although I agree with many of the reviews saying this was hit or miss, I had more hits. I also enjoyed sitting outside with my friends on balmy nights, smoking hookah. Even though the food service wasn't always perfect, the man tending to the hookah coals was very attentive and their flavor selection is excellent. They don't mind if you mix flavors together and they are perfectly happy to have you sit and smoke for as long as you like. Check it out once or twice and see what you think. For me, I'm happy to have had a place like this when I lived in Claremont.

P.S. Bring cash because the wait staff definitely mixed up our credit card amounts. I can understand that it would be confusing with a large group and several cards, but it was ridiculous.

This is a lovely restaurant for a nice evening out with you and your plus one or with a group of friends.  I love the outdoor covered patio and spacious seating.

The food is just good, not great.  If you don't eat middle eastern food a lot then this is a good starter restaurant to try it out.  The prices are just a tad bit above what I think they should be.

The service sucked...Although, this seems to be a trend at most Middle Eastern restaurants.  The friend I went with use to work at that location and she knew our waiter.  Despite this, the waiter still neglected us and it took forever to get our food.

The hookah here is absolutely amazing!!!!  We ordered plain mint and it was delicious.  We were there for over an hour and one bowl lasted our entire group the whole time.  The hookah was smooth and never tasted burned.  We had to hail down the coal kid to get his attention, but besides this the hookah experience was perfect.

So, we ordered take out for the first and also the last time from this place. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was the bag of pita bread had a big hole chewed down through about 3 slices of bread, it looked like a rat had chewed through the bag and ate some of the bread. After that we ate some of the other food that was sloppily prepared and complimented with old and soggy pickles and olives. They also got the order wrong for one of the appetizers.
Who would give a customer pita bread with a giant hole chewed through the bag and bread WTF?!?!?

Do NOT GO HERE! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

    (1) LIARS
    (2) SCAM ARTISTS
    (2) Crap/bland re-re-re-reheater food
    (3) Crap service
    (4) Crazyyyy expensive
    (5) Unfriendly staff

The owner is the biggest liar/scammer you'll ever encounter. I'm of Lebanese background so I know exactly what this guy's plan is. They'll try to offer you deals that are supposed to give you more food for your money. They'll try to convince you that you're dumb and don't know what you're ordering so you should listen to their "advice." Then if you decide to stick to your guns, they'll tell you they can't do it - for example, I had 12 friends with me and each of us wanted the same platter but we wanted our dishes separate as per the menu, the owner said it was not feasible?!?!? WHAT! so he brought big dishes with the minimum amount of meat (so he could charge us more while providing us with less). Oh and we waited for over one hour for re-re-reheated food.

BE CAREFUL this is NOT a place you want to go to with several people because I GUARANTEE you that they will scam you - our bill was over $350. RIDICULOUS.

    I rest my case!

Fact: In a hookah session (ranging from 40-60 mins) you can inhale anywhere from 100-200 times the smoke as a single cigarette, and probably get about 20x the tar than if you just smoke a cigarette.

Fact: Chubby Monster doesn't really care!

Anyway, I like this place. Great ambiance, I've only eaten here once and it was pretty bland so you might want to take your date to eat elsewhere and then come here for the hookah. It's a nice place to chill, the manager is pretty nice, and for about $10 it is pretty damn close to all-you-can-smoke.See.. The Chubby Monster doesn't just care about all you can eat...

I really wanted to like this place. The staff was friendly, the decor is charming.

The food came fast. In fact, a little too fast.

My date's food looked (and tasted) like it had been reheated, not prepared fresh. The edges of my steak tasted gamey, like it had been sitting out prior to being cooked.

The olive oil we asked for, for dipping, tasted more like corn oil.

Add to this the fact that everything is overpriced ($21 for my partially-spoiled steak with a side of bland rice), and I won't be coming back anytime soon.

If this place vastly improved their food, it would be a great place. As noted, the staff was very friendly, too. But the food was pretty bad.

Until then, we'd prefer to spend our money at (shudder) Applebee's. (Which, cheesy suburban decor aside, at least cooks a mean steak.)

3 stars for my third time eating at this place. The Grapevine is an interesting restaurant. On a night with perfect weather it's awesome to sit out on their front patio. It's the first thing you approach as you get to the restaurant and with the combination of hookah smoking and belly dancers; this is a fun place to dine.

However, on our last visit there, the weather was windy and chilly and so we dined inside. What I noticed was that since they leave the front door open from the patio, the chill managed to find it's way inside and linger around the restaurant. So, I was still cold.

The food is decent here but not outstanding or really special. The menu consists of various kabob offerings as well as chicken, lamb and beef fixed in other ways. When I have had the lamb chops here I have been quite pleased. This last time I ordered a vertical rotisserie roasted chicken. The meat was tender but the meal itself was somewhat uninspiring. The broiled tomato accompaniment needed to be broiled for a lot longer than it was. The rice pilaf was very so-so. My party also had a beef kabob and a spicy chicken dish. The kabob came with fries when the gentleman asked for "potato" instead of the rice and that seemed a little odd to me.

I would go here again (some of the appetizers are pretty good), but only on a warm evening so I could enjoy the outdoor patio ambience with the dancers. It seems to add a lot to the total package here when you can do that.

Food was average at best and over priced.

Overall, very shady, odd practices here. I felt like I was about to be cheated every step of the way. Odd for a restaurant.

My wife and i decided we would not return. I do not recommend this restaurant.

    Criminals.
    Thieves.
    Liars.

Just a few words I can think of to describe the waiters and owner of this craptastic establishment.

If you are in the mood for decent tasting, overpriced food, and a waiter that will try to scam all of the money out of your wallet, this is the place for you!

We came in there with a discount coupon (that we had to pay for) and as soon as the waiter saw that upon asking for the check, the scam began.

He came at me with some whack-a$$ dyslexic math explaining why the coupon made our meal more expensive than if we had not used it.

I spent ten minutes giving this boob a math lesson and then gave up and asked to see the owner.

The owner was watching and talking to him the whole time, and knew exactly what was going on. He avoided talking to me, and left us sitting at the table for another 10 minutes (WE WERE THE ONLY ONES IN THE RESTAURANT!!!!) hoping we would give up.

When I approached the two bumbling morons and politely asked them to refund the check to my credit card (because we had been overcharged), he explained to me that their p.o.s. system did not allow them to make refunds. WTF????

Finally in the end I made the waiter pay me the difference in cash, NO TIP.

See the other posts here... this is not a rant, just a heads up. Karma will see to it that this place goes out of business.

    Nicely decorated place. Nice neighborhood.

I tried this place a while back because I was craving for some baklava. I came for lunch with a friend of mine and the place was pretty empty. We had a choice of sitting outside or inside, and we chose to sit outside.

To be honest, I didn't really like the kebab. We had the chicken and lamb. I'm not a big fan of lamb to begin with, but wanted to try anyway. The kebab was kind of chewy and not very tasty. But one thing I can tell you.. the pita bread was GOOD~!!

We also tried the hookah. I forgot which one but I remember I didn't like it. My friend said it was good, though :]

My favorite thing from this place was the BAKLAVA. It was so sooo good. I had to order a second one. HAHAHAHHAHA.

So I came back to his place again a few weeks later, not for the kebab.. but for some baklava :]

So Leena took me here to her "second home" a few months ago... and let me say... it REALLY is her second home LOL... She knew everybody who works here it was a little scary I was like Leena maybe you need to branch out a little bit... try some other places lol...

So this was the first and only time I've tried hooka... hopefully it's not the last cuz it was delish, dude!  We got the mango flavored one ( I think?) and it really freakin tasted like mangoes.  We had just had dinner so no food, but the two bombay sapphire and tonics that I had were perfectly mixed.  I'm excited to come here some time for dinner and try out the food.  Until then I'm gonna keep the recommended 5 star rating that I got from the Bakshi sisters.....

I have a very close relationship with the Grapevine restaurant. I live right down the street and I love coming here on a hot summer day sitting on the patio and watching middle eastern music videos. I went last night and my friend and I were the only people in the restaurant. We sat inside in the cozy dining room and they lit the fireplace just for us.

I can understand how some of the other reviews were lower, the food is overpriced and the waiters can sometimes be standofish, however I'm used to them and I know they mean well deep down.

I have never had a meal that I haven't liked at this establishment. I reccomend the spicy chicken, lamb kabobs and last but not least cheese borak for an appetizer.

My wife and I shed ourselves of our two older kids on halloween night - they went to a Halloween party.  We found ourselves with just the two year old and the baby and thought, "Hey we should go have dinner somewhere we normally wouldn't take the older (picky) kids."

So we went to our favorite mediterranean place, Grapevine.  As usual the food was very good.  Big surprise: the two year old likes hummus!

As others have noted the food here is good.  I wanted to share how great the service is.  The staff is very friendly and great with kids!  They are attentive and very accommodating.  It's like a nice family dinner where you actually like your family members.

Having worked at a Persian restaurant before I am fairly familiar and a pretty good judge of mediteranean food. This place is a bit overpriced for some things you can just buy at Basha market but the atmosphere is good and when I'm too lazy to make it myself you will find me here. We always order the appetizer sampler, simply because, you get alot of different things for one sitting and they are all delish; this and a bottle of 2005 Hess Select Cabernet and we are very happy campers. If you see us there and read this, say hello...

Shhhhh...Here is a Secret... you can find $20 Gift Certificates for this place for about $5-$10 online at restaurants(dot)com; but only good for M-Th and you have to spend $50 or more, which incidentally, is not hard to do.

I came here with my dad while he was down here for the wedding. We had just frequented the Getty Center and required food. It had been a while since we had eaten brunch and were starved. I offered a few places in the LA area, but Dad sad that Greek food sounded really good to him. I decided at that point to come back home and get something locally.

I had heard a lot of good things about this place and so I thought to bring Dad here. He hadn't had Greek/Mediterranean food before and wanted to try it.

As soon as we entered, we were greeted by either the owner or the manager. He seated us right away. We sat outside under the huge tent (I think it used to be part of the parking lot). I immediately noticed to my left the hookah stand and saw a few people smoking. My dad at first was taken aback by that, but I assured him it was okay and he did say that the smoke didn't bother him too much (they were on the complete opposite side of the dining area so the aroma wasn't too bad).

One of the workers provided us with marinated green (non-pitted) olives with warm pita bread. Sadly there was no butter. :(

I ordered the Greek chicken which was served with basmati rice. The sauce on the chicken was a creamy sauce with greek olives and feta. It was very tasty and made great leftovers.

Dad ordered the lamb shank which came with rice and vegetables. The lamb was very tender and the taste I got was yummy.

I'm downgrading the restaurant a star because they did not serve fresh brewed iced tea. All they provided to us was Nestea. Who serves Nestea at a sit down restaurant. I understand if your a Subway or another fast food establishment, but a sit-down? Come on.

Other than that, the food was tasty and most likely I'd come back again. The prices were a bit high too. The actual building for the restaurant was this absolute charming Victorian. The decor was period and I actually would have enjoyed dining in there more so than outside.

If your looking for something different for a change I definitely recommend the grapevine.  Good food, hooka, big patio to sit outside on. It works out really good if your in a group since there's lots of tables next to each other.  They serve alcohol as well.  Most of the hooka places in this area do not which make this place is my first pick in the area for Mediterranean.

This place is my second home! They are a tad expensive, but so worth it! The hookahs are amazing (my favorites are mango and mint) and the cute Alaadin guy replenishes the coals very fast! They also have a full bar but its best to go with the wine cuz they have a really good selection and it goes well with the AMAZING lamb chops! Oh and their Greek salad...amazing...

I was disappointed with this restaurant.  I was actually expecting a lot more.  The prices were a bit high, the service wasn't great, and the food was even worse.  All the food was actually kind of bland.  I went through the trouble of making reservations for inside seating.  When I went there, they sat us outside after I asked to be moved inside.

I went here yesterday for the buffet lunch. I have seen this place for a long time as i live in la verne and it is up the street from my house but i usually go to pomona to the Mirage so i figured i would try it out. HATED IT. First off i went a hour before the buffet was to close. The food is in catering trays and not heated, it was cold. Very poor selection. No heat lights. The place was empty which shoulda been my first sign that it was going to be nasty. Then the owner expected me to have change, which is his job. DO NOT GO THERE. you will regret it...and i think not having the food under lights may be in fact against the law.

I have to agree with other reviewers that something fishy is going on at this place. I met an old friend here, and one month later I get my credit card bill and it's for $20 more than it should be. So I call the place and the manager has the gall to tell me I must have left a larger tip. Excuse me? I left a $15 tip, not a $35 tip! And then he tells me he can't put it back on my card because my card issuer doesn't allow that. I may be old, but I'm not stupid! Chase allows refunds. What kind of shady place is this?

Horrible service!!!  As we were seated we had to wait for more than 15 minutes just receive something to drink, that we had to ask for.  It was like getting your teeth pulled, they simply did not want to strive for any sort of  customer service.  To top it off, we were a party of two and after they charged our credit card, they charged us more gratuity, which we did not authorize.  Buyer beware and I'd think twice about using your credit card at this establishment.

I went here on Sunday (03/28/2010).

They food was actually pretty good.

I thought that everything was reasonably priced.

The wait staff here was terrible however.

My wife and I waited about 30 minutes and had to ask for our bill multiple times from people other than our waiter when we were done eating.

Our waiter seemed annoyed that we were even there and didn't check on us once after we got our food.

Hopefully the owner(s) get some better staff because this place had decent food but the service was so terrible that I don't think I would ever go back.

Terrible service.  My partner ordered a soup and appetizer; I ordered a dinner. She got hers in 5 minutes and (eating slowly) finished it 10 minutes before mine made it to the table. Overpriced, and very average food.  Grumpy servers. I have eaten at the Grapevine a half-dozen times (my partner likes Mediterranean food), and I have never left happy.  Note the review that said that there were no other people in the restaurant at dinner time. The patio is nice, but there are too many negatives for this place to last much longer.

Stopped here with a few friends on a Thursday night. I brought a friend with me for the evening and this place seemed very nice. Great outdoor patio area and my friend says it was converted from an old house. The remodeling looks great. Service is good but it was kind of a slow night. We ordered hummus and sausages, comes with pita bread or flat bread. I also ordered a chicken dish but can't remember exactly what it's called. However the lamb looked great. My friend wanted to try the chicken but wanted to order the hummus with lamb. Call me an ol' softy or something but I caved. Must have been graduation night somewhere because the table next to us had 3 graduates. They then ordered the hoookah where my friends' wife needed to leave. She is pregnant. So we chatted some more after my friend's wife left because she drover herself from class. It was a nice evening until I got home. I don't want to go into describing anything but wasn't having a good time in the bathroom, let's just say. It was probably the chicken I had with whatever sauce they put on it. My friends were all fine so it had to be what I ate. All in all, the food does taste good but not great. it was a place to stop but I would like to go back to Layaleena Restaurant in Upland off of Mountain Ave and the 10 freeway. The food there is great but the service was just good. Here, the service was great. Refills and all but again, they were slow when were here. Like my 1 paragraph review? Thought so.

Wait staff was extremely rude.  The only reason we even heard about it and decided to go was because we had a http://restaurant.com gift certificate.  They seemed to be offended that we were using it (why sign up if you don't want people using it?).  Food was mediocre - will never return.
