Everyone in Sonoma and Napa know about The Grape Leaf Inn. This twelve-bedroom b&B has great accommodations, a delicious breakfast rivaling anything you could order at a breakfast/brunch place, great amenities (with Aveda soaps, shampoos and conditioner), very welcoming and a friendly, full-service staff.
GUESTROOM- THE CHARDONNAY (5/5): The room was SO cute-- it was in the gables of the house and featured two rooms (the bedroom and a little "livingroom / sitting" area with a small bed, couch and chairs.) and a bathroom with two sinks and a spa / hot tub. The best part about this guestroom was the skylight. You could pull down the windows from the slanted gables and let Sonoma's sunlight spill into the room. It was so great to wake up, open the skylight, soak in the fresh air (away from all the noise and pollutants from the city) and watch the clouds float above the house. SO peaceful and quaint. I loved the hot tub too. I wish the bathroom had skylight windows (or even a TV).

LOCATION: The Grape Leaf Inn is really close to Downtown, so it was really easy to walk to great places to eat and hang out. The location can't be beat! Love it. There's plenty of parking as well.
LOGISTICS: You get two keys when you check into your room: one for the room and one for the house. The house is really big-- 12 bedrooms. During the evening, the house is super quiet (it's a little errie because the house is so big and you can hear all the little creaks) and the innkeeper shuts off all the light. It's an open door policy, so you can still wander the house, the kitchen and the little rooms and study areas that aren't occupied. When I was downstairs at night, I had to turn on all the lights to the rooms (and shut them off after I left, of course).
BREAKFAST (5/5): We started off with a tropical fruit dish (cantaloupe, watermelon, melons, berries) and a "double-shot" of fresh mango with some bubbly. We drank our OJ and coffee in cute "Grape Leaf Inn" mugs and moved onto our next dish: a salmon, french toast panini with an egg baked in a small ramekin and nestled in freshly grated Parmesan cheese and herbs and grilled salt and pepper pineapple slices. The little sauce bowls of chili lime sauce and hollandaise sauce were perfect complements to the panini.
NOT DOG FRIENDLY: This place would be even more fantastic if it were dog friendly. Maybe something to consider... :P
DECOR / FEEL: The owners who decorated the Inn and added their personal touches (e.g., books, certificates, wedding photos) did a great job! The stained glass windows, the beautiful furniture and all the little things made this place a pleasure to stay at. I loved it! -

A potentially important caveat: we stayed at the Grape Leaf Inn this weekend through a deal on Jetsetter which made the room rates about $268 (with tax). I'm not sure that had anything to do with our experience, but I wanted to state that at the outset.
I must confess to being a bit baffled by the glowing reviews of this place. I suppose if you are a B&B person, the Grape Leaf Inn would fit the bill. I personally wasn't impressed. We checked in and were given the Sangiovese room which is RIGHT behind the reception area. Once we closed our door and realized it made zero difference in sound transmission, we asked to move rooms. Unfortunately the Inn was full so they couldn't move us but assured us the Sangiovese is one of their most frequently requested rooms. I remain uncertain as to why that is given that its placement means you can hear everything going on in the Inn (reception staff, people coming in late at night, water running in the rooms above, people gathering in the morning, etc) and have very little privacy. Lesson learned: for privacy, stay in a hotel, not a house.
We looked forward to the wine tasting in the speakeasy but we all (my fiancee and I were there with another couple) found the wines, made by the owner, truly terrible. As in, we took a sip, grimaced and had to set the glass down. The owner took the guys into his private cellar but they were frustrated that he wouldn't sell them anything--including bottles listed on their "for sale" list.
When we came home from dinner (around 8:45pm), we took some wine into one of the side living rooms. However, after a few minutes, a couple came in and headed to their room which was right off that space and indicated that they would try not to make too much noise. Needless to say, we vacated immediately, but it just underscored the lack of privacy. Not everyone is looking for that, of course, but if you are, this isn't the place for you.
After a fitful night of sleep, I woke up hoping breakfast would redeem things and then we'd be on our way. It was pretty much inedible, and this is from 4 people, at least 3 of which eat just about anything. The mango starter had unripened mangoes and the main course featured a cold crepe filled with an overly rich/sweet mound of cream and bananas, a bland (actually, bad) sausage and a bizarre gorgonzola creme brulee. I don't think anyone took more than a bite or two. Breakfast finished with strawberries in balsamic dressing and pound cake. Why the balsamic? Strawberries are lovely, especially for breakfast! No need to drown them in balsamic! I think perhaps the cook was overly ambitious or tried to make this meal more fancy/upscale than necessary, with pretty bad results. Toast, some basic eggs and fruit would have been much more appealing.
We certainly enjoyed ourselves in Healdsburg, but that had far more to do with great weather, an excellent dinner at Barndiva and wonderful company. I won't be returning to Grape Leaf Inn. -

High expectations that were generally met - but the (high) price tag means I probably won't be back.
A friend's wedding at Trentadue coincided with my birthday - so we decided to splurge on a little B&B night away in Healdsburg. I found Grape Leaf Inn through Jetsetter and was excited to be spending less ~$250 for a night in Healdsburg. When we arrived, we found out we had been upgraded to a night in the Mouse House (normally $600/night). Fantastic! (The only downside would've been if I'd been anticipating walking to/from downtown Healdsburg for dinner/drinking.... but luckily that wasn't the reason we booked here.)
The Mouse House and the other cottages are located several miles north from the main Grape Leaf Inn. Tucked away on their private vineyard are three little cottages -- an amazing private escape. The Mouse House was a single room cottage decorated warmly and made me wish we could've spent more than a night there.
Two negatives: 1) There was no shade on the "front door" and at night, I felt rather uncomfortable that anyone could look in.... granted, this only allowed peeping toms to look into the little kitchen-area hallway and closet area. But still, an oversight that should be fixed. 2) When we headed back after midnight from my friend's wedding - we had to use our iPhone flashlight app to make our way from the driveway to the door. I would've otherwise likely broken an ankle maneuvering the path in my high heels.
We missed the highly acclaimed breakfast (they only offer it in a 1-hour time window) - I wish they could've had a "to-go" option for latecomers. Overall, a nice getaway -- but for that regular price of $600, I could get a night at the Four Seasons in Maui! -

The reviews all rave about the breakfast & the speakeasy, so it may be one of those times when the experience can't live up to the expectations. The breakfast was way too sweet and rich for us. As an example, one day started with 4 small pieces of fruit with a dipping sauce (who needs a dipping sauce for watermelon or pineapple?), a banana cream "crepe" (the crepe itself was more like the consistency of a blintz), small turkey sausage and a cheese creme brulee, followed by a "dessert" of strawberry parfait. We were all overwhelmed by the end (after all who needs dessert for breakfast, especially after a sweet banana crepe?), so everyone was dumping off the whipped cream from the parfait and just trying to get at the strawberries, that were unfortunately in a sweet sauce. Everyone felt the need to exercise after that breakfast, although on vacation... On the other hand, the speakeasy is straight and simple -- a wide array of wines to choose from, in a relaxed vibe -- no complaints there!
The rooms themselves are varied. If you're tall (or even if you aren't), you should be careful with the room you choose because of the slanted ceilings in the upstairs rooms and bathrooms. I kept hitting my head on the ceiling, including every time I got up from the toilet. There also isn't huge amount of walking space in the rooms, as the beds take up much of the space. As the tubs are the large types with jets, the sides are very high, so it is rather difficult to get in and out of. I don't know if this is typical of other B&Bs, but like a home, you could hear people coming & going and talking in their rooms.
However, overall, other than these quirks, the place is picturesque and clean. As mentioned, they offer Aveda toiletries and free bottled water. They bake cookies in the afternoon (kinda strange ones, but people loved them). And as other have mentioned, the owners are very friendly and nice. The location is also great -- just a few minutes walk from the center of town. -

Do not leave without playing in the speakeasy!
I decided to treat the Frenchie to a weekend in the Healdsburg wine country to show him that we have it just as good. Unfortunately, I've spent too much time with toe curling Medoc and Bordeaux, so everything we tasted was so harsh and too young by comparison.
Richard and Kay were very sweet and accommodating and the room was great full of nice touches. The jacuzzi itself was to blame for my not seeing much of the town. -

These the the things I look for when I want to stay at a B&B:
1. Decor - the place HAS to feel clean and classy
2. Breakfast - has to be unique and delicious
3. Massage - has to have couple massages
4. Service - has to be friendly and attentive
This place fulfilled all my requirements!!! I stayed at one of the bigger rooms and it was really nice, it felt really clean and it comes with a nice bottle of wine. We had 3 courses of breakfast every morning and it was very tasty and I loved the presentation. We also got the couple's massage in the wine cellar and that was the highlight of my day!!!
There are few few things that can be improved but we LOVED the owners so much, I will leave it got. It's a MUST go place when you want to stay at Headlsberg. -

Just returned from a fabulous stay in the Gamay Rose Room at the Grape Leaf Inn. We really enjoyed our time and found it to be a comfortable place land each night.
The Room: The Gamay Rose room is one of the least expensive rooms in the house. It is downstairs in the older part of the house without sitting rooms or fire places, but it more than met our needs. It was plenty large enough and had a shower to die for! We found the walls to be quite thin and could easily hear what was going on the the rooms closest to us.
Location: The location was IDEAL! We would wake early each morning, and do a few miles around the gorgeous streets of Healdsburg for exercise. All of the best restaurants and coffee shops are within an easy walk of the Inn.
Breakfast: Very, Very tasty. We had a Savory dish two days and a sweeter dish one. It felt like things were very local and fresh. Yummy! I only wish they had fresh coffee ready before 7:30.
SpeakEasy: What an experience! You need to check it out to understand how unique it is.
Inn and Inn Keepers: The Inn is very nicely decorated with beautiful Gardens. It had a little different vibe than other B & B's we have stayed in. It felt almost like you had this very large house to yourself. About the only time we saw other guests and/or the Inn Keepers were at breakfast and the speakeasy. This is not necessarily a bad thing, just a little less welcoming than some other places we have stayed.
All in All, I think we would stay here again. We very much enjoyed the town of Healdsburg and all it has to offer. -

This sweet B&B surpassed all of my expectations.
Service: They agreed to let us make a pretty last-minute reservation for a Saturday-night-only stay (they usu have a 2-night min though), set up massages in the "speakeasy," and made on-the-spot dinner reservations at one of the harder places to get into. (It helps that the proprietor, Kae, is drop-dead gorgeous and all of the waiters in town are in love with her and would do anything for her.)
Accommodations: comfortable without being too folksy like some (most?) B&Bs. 12 total rooms with a new/remodeled half and an older half with smaller beds and vaulted ceilings, which I clocked my head on about 5 times, but it is all so charming that I didn't mind. ;) The sheets are amazing and the huge skylit windows a treat when we woke up on a sunny Sunday. Wineries rotate doing tastings in the wine cellar, or speakeasy, and put out a decent cheese spread.
Breakfast: Every detail is attended to here and the Breakfast part of this Bed & Breakfast is not an afterthought. From the coffee to the whole grain bagels, seriously amazing salmon and feta fritatta with mango salsa, to the little baked crab apple, you leave feeling fully fortified and ready for another day of drinking Dry Creek Valley even dryer.
Easy to get to, parking, and a 5-minute walk to Healdsburg square make this a perfect location. I can see why all of the other guests last weekend were repeat visitors! -

Call me lazy or a daddler , but I never write reviews. Even for places I love. I am writing a review for the Grape Leaf Inn because it had that much of a lasting impression on me. My fiancé and I stayed here over a year ago and will never forget our experience. Richard and Kae were wonderful hosts. The breakfast was very yummy and bath so relaxing. The best wine pour I had all weekend was with Richard in the Speakeasy. It was a wine he made. All the wines he recommended I enjoyed the most. Visit the Grape Leaf. You will love every minute!

This place has *beautiful* rooms. We stayed in the Chardonnay Room, which is a small suite, with a king size bed under the gables of the house. There's a small stained glass window above the headboard. Everything in the suite seemed to have a personal touch, from the wallpaper to the small antique side tables. Each room has it's own unique feel.
The bathroom had rectangular jacuzzi tub, which was really nice to have. While it says "two person", it's a bit cramped with two. Maybe two petite women would be comfortable, but with me and my 6'4" boyfriend, it was slightly small. Still nice to have, though!
We never used the couch... It was valentine's day weekend... we were in bed a lot... ahem. Moving on! Where was I? It was a beautiful couch... A gorgeous room over all.
Service was wonderful. It's run by a lovely couple, and they have a gentleman who is available, and awake at night, should you have any questions. He helped me find a cork screw in the kitchen at about 11pm!
The community areas are great too. Many couches, hot chocolate at all hours, and tons of board games.
My only complaint was this: The breakfast... It's considered a bed and breakfast. While the breakfast was certainly beyond a "continental breakfast" I could not consider it wholesome, or nutritious. It was something like a very sweet berry cobbler, where the topping was a bunch of scones. Then there were the individual yogurts, much like the ones you would put in a kids lunch. But they were not the healthy ones. They were the super sugary, corn startchy ones. They did have good orange juice, granola, a great tea selection, and coffee in a dispenser. So I suppose you could say it was a "homemade" breakfast. The homemade part being the scone cobbler. But it didn't cut it for me. For $275 - $350 per night, I expected far better food.
So, over all, I really wonderful place to stay. I might be back, but first I'm going to see if I can find a place with real breakfast. When those places are fully booked, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.Listed in: Romantic Evenings & Getaways!

We had a great time at the Grape Leaf Inn, until checkout... but that can wait. It's going to be hard to review it, because I really, really enjoyed my time there, and also understand that my situation was a bit out of the norm that led to what happened when we checked out.
The service, food and accommodations were top notch. We rented a cottage and it was beautiful, super clean and even stocked with little free goodies for my in-laws anniversary. Really a great place run by great people.
The Speakeasy is outstanding and Richard, the owner, is a great host. He'll pour some wines and tell you about his wine club that you will not believe the price when you hear it. Don't miss the tasting, they are fun and meeting the other guests is great. Extra credit if you can get any juicy details out of Richard about his previous life as a movie producer.
So why the 4 stars? what happened at checkout? Well it all has to do with how the cottages are priced. Cottages are not a flat rate, it's all by occupancy. So rather than a simple set price, it's based on how many people the maid thinks slept in what bed. So if you have a guest sleep over, or in our case, leave the bride and groom to their cottage and all cram into into the other to allow them so privacy, be prepared for a huge bill that's complicated by this pricing structure.
In the end it was all sorted out, kinda. We still felt we overpaid, and I'm sure they felt we underpaid, but with a system such as that, why make it so complicated? Odds are you'll never encounter this, but it's something to be aware in case you plan something where you may have unexpected guests.
I have to end this on a good note, if you go, don't miss breakfast, it's amazing. -

This is a wonderful place for a romantic getaway.
We stayed in the Chardonnay room, which was private, beautiful and luxurious. The amenities include a private jacuzzi (which is every bit as fantastic as it sounds), and an entry room that served as our changing room and the place to store our luggage without cluttering the beautiful bedroom. The bedroom is picture-perfect and a delightful place to wake up in the morning. The king sized bed is under two skylights and a stained glass window.
Breakfast here is really good. We had dinner at Cyrus at the night before, and our cozy breakfast in front of the fireplace was the perfect transition back from the world of michelin-stars. My favorite course was the first: a fresh berry salad with a lovely balsamic/honey sauce and slices of blood oranges on the side.
Also, the owners and staff are delightful and did everything to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. As soon as we arrived, they popped cookies in the oven so we would be able to enjoy a freshly baked batch. When we came downstairs for breakfast at the last possible minute the following morning, they still cooked and served us a wonderful meal. And when we were running late before checkout, they gave us an extra hour so we wouldn't have to rush.
This is a lovely place. I hope we can come back here to celebrate another special occasion. -

Fantastic rooms, great breakfasts, relationships with all of the wineries and has complementary tastings for all of them. Also easy walking distance to downtown so you can eat and drink with ease. The speakeasy is awesome for either the Friday & Saturday tastings or a couples massage.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Rousanne room for the weekend. The weather didnt cooperate but staying here I didnt even notice. They take care of everything to the last detail and the owners Richard and Kae as well as the rest of the staff make you feel right at home. The rooms are all beautiful- each have their own charcter and feeling. Our room was big with a lot of natural light. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom came with a large jacuzzi tub- perfect for a romantic getaway- and to relax after drinking too much wine at the Friday night Pigs and Pinot event.
The breakfast was delicious- always 3 courses and the service is spot on. Tea and coffee is always ready to go - and as a tea drinker they had an excellent selection. For breakfast you can get anything from Crepes and fruiit with delicious fillings to breakfast french toast paninis with delicious melted gruyere oozing from the center. They serve an interesting menu guaranteed to leave you very satisfied but possibly needing to undo the top button!
So overall it really doesnt get any better. There is always somebody here to answer any questions, make reservations for you or just give you some general ideas on how to enjoy the beautiful town of healdsburg. I will definitely come back to stay at the Grape Leaf!! -

My husband and I had a really nice time "getting away" at the Grape Leaf Inn this past weekend. So much so, that I was inspired to finally "yelp" instead of reading everyone else's "yelps".
We were greeted warmly upon arrival and made to feel at home by one of the gracious owners, Richard. As an added bonus, we enjoyed freshly baked (and delicious, mmm... ) chocolate chip cookies while we checked in. The public area of the inn was spacious and elegant; it felt like entering someone's beloved Victorian mansion instead of an inn.
Our room was clean and comfortable, with a gas fireplace and huge jacuzzi tub for two. And all rooms are unique (we stayed in the "Viogner"). The inn is a large, renovated, 1800's era Victorian. The style of the room reflects this with it's antique light fixtures and period appropriate decoration, but all the amenities were quite modern. It was quiet at night for peaceful sleeping, and there was a comfy, cozy king sized bed for curling up and reading.
We went to Healdsburg to drink wine and eat well, and the Grape Leaf Inn helped us out with this by being very conveniently located close to the square and the wine trails. And speaking of eating the included breakfast was amazing. We started off with fresh mixed berries in a balsamic reduction with a goat cheese lemon souffle, moved on to a french toast panini filled with smoked salmon and gruyere and a chili-lime dipping sauce, a side of sea-salt-sprinkled grilled pineapple, and a dessert of homemade strawberry ice cream. Yum!
All in all, a great experience, and highly recommended if you are looking for an upscale but unpretentious inn in Healdsburg. -

My husband and I stayed in the Merlot room Saturday night. Beautiful room, comfortable bed and amazing breakfast Sunday AM. A great change from the typical hotel experience.
My only complaint is the ceiling heights due to the gables of the house. Hit my head a few times! -

I came here for my 30th birthday, and what a treat it was. The bathtub deserves special mention: it was the biggest Jacuzzi tub I have ever seen (including Vegas!) and had jets everywhere you would want a jet (and nowhere you wouldn't-- equally key). Stumbling distance to Zin (and oh, there was some stumbling) and to many of the tasting rooms in town. But mostly...Richard knows how to pour. By the time I left the complimentary tasting (of some of the best wine I had all day), this nearly-30-yr-old might as well have been 21, if you know what I mean. Kate left lavender tension relief salve on the pillows, chocolate on the nightstand, and a fabulous fizzer for the tub. I would love to move into the Grape Leaf; the weekend went by way too fast.

This is without a doubt my favourite B&B in the area. The owners are hands on, gracious and full of superb recommendations. The breakfasts are tasty, nourishing, plentiful and sustaining (important for a full day of wine tasting). They also have great wine tastings in the evenings (down in the wine cellar - entered in by opening up the bookcase/door that hides the entrance). Sometimes they have the tastings hosted by a local winery which I have always found educational and entertaining. It is walking distance to all of the fantastic restuarants in down town Healdsburg. Just don't book this for Barrel tasting weekend (the first weekend in march - the best event up there) because I have not booked for all of my friends yet!

Grape Leaf Inn is a beautiful old Victorian that is very well kept. We stayed in the Sangiovese room and it was incredible. The bed was huge, the bathroom was huge and the tub was even huger;)! You will certainly not be disappointed with the accommodations. The owners are so friendly and do everything they can to help make your stay fabulous. Ask and ye shall receive;) Breakfast was delightful. Off-street parking is available.

We recently spent a weekend in the Mouse House at the Grape Leaf Inn, and loved it!
The Grape Leaf Inn is a wonderful establishment. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. The breakfast is scrumptious, and the evening wine tasting is a perfect way to kick off the evening.
The Mouse House itself is a little cottage in a secluded setting overlooking a vineyard. It is one of the most romantic spots we've ever stayed. It is well equipped with anything you could want. We enjoyed the outdoor jacuzzi with a perfect view of the stars. Inside is warm and inviting with a cozy fireplace, an amazing and comfortable bed, and a great steam shower.
We highly recommend this place. Worth every penny. We look forward to returning in the future. -

We stayed at the Grape Leaf Inn for 2 nights for our anniversary. It was a wonderful B&B.
We checked in late and they had an envelope waiting for us outside so that we could get into our rooms without bothering anyone.
The breakfasts were AMAZING! Some B&B's don't put a lot of effort into the breakfast, the Grape Leaf goes above and beyond. The breakfast was a 3 course affair with scrumptious homemade smoothies, french toast, a salmon/egg panini that was to die for and other items. The coffee was terrific, the OJ very good. I loved chatting with the other guests in the morning while my husband went for his morning run.
The evening wine tasting was also a terrific bonus. It was held in this amazing wine cellar (or speakeasy as they call it) hidden by a very nifty bookshelf door. Richard was fun to talk to and knew a lot about the wines he was pouring. After our 27 mile bike ride earlier in the day, it was nice to have a few sips of some good wine before our dinner plans.
The staff was very friendly, and it is apparent that the owners put a lot of effort into restoring the house and making it homey but not too folksy. They let us keep our expensive road bikes in their garage since we couldn't fit them in our room and didn't want to leave them on the car. It was a clean, comfortable room (though we were in one of the smaller ones). They even put chocolate covered strawberries in our room with a card wishing us a happy anniversary.
Overall, it was an outstanding stay. We would definitely stay there again - its close proximity to the town square make it super convenient. We went during high season (October), so it was a little more expensive than I would have thought, (especially for their cheapest room), but we did get a lot for that money. -

My husband and I enjoyed a fantastic get-away weekend in Healdsburg this summer at the Grape Leaf Inn. Absolutely no complaints - the home is beautiful with lots of thought put into the tiny details, the rooms were gorgeous with comfortable beds and furninshings. The breakfast was to die for both mornings - I'm still raving about it! Beautiful common areas and a super friendly staff too. Loved the extra perk of a wine tasting in the "secret" room downstairs in the evening. Easy walking distance to downtown. Can't wait to go back!

This is a fantastic B&B a few blocks' walk from the central square in Healdsburg. The owners / innkeepers, Richard and Kae, are extremely helpful and friendly, and helped make our stay really enjoyable.
We enjoyed everything about the place -- the room, the breakfasts, the service, were all top-notch. But the highlight for us was going down into their "speakeasy" bar for wine tasting each evening at 5pm, when Richard would open some excellent wines produced by local small wineries that you won't find in your local BevMo. Lots of fun... we'll definitely be returning the next time we're able.
