SO GOOD!

Only been living in Toledo for a couple weeks and we've been here twice already!  Once for lunch (take-out) and once for dinner... both times the service and food has been consistently great!

I ordered the veggie combo #1 for lunch... came with a very generous serving of rice, dolmas, stuffed cabbage, tabbouli, hummus, and a ton of pita bread.  For $6 I think?  SO GOOD!  Returned about a week later for dinner and got the falafel salad that also came with fatoosh, tabouli, and hummus.  Again, SO GOOD!  The other thing about dinner (and I'm not sure if this is the same for dine-in lunch) is that they give you a basket of fresh and fried pita when you are seated.  That fried pita bread was gone in minutes!  It's cripsy and perfectly seasoned with herbs and salt... SOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!!

I know there are a handful of other Middle Eastern restaurants in the area, but Grape Leaf is definitely not one you want to overlook!   You will not be disappointed!

I was watching my niece on a Friday night with my brother-in-law as he was sleepy from work and her mother was catching a really bad bug.  So late and my niece obviously was catching the bug also and couldn't sleep, we needed to eat and to exhausted for the kitchen.  It's 9:30PM and for some reason as we are in panicking to figure out what we want to eat (yes, men panic over food, j/k, but we did) and his eyes lit up as if he had some great epiphany that warmed the deepest depths of his souls.  The words that took forever to spill over his lips were...(drumroll please...) Grape Leaf?

I didn't know what to order, so I just told him to get me whatever he was going to order.  So we order over the phone and its available withing FIFTEEN MINUTES for us to pick it up.  He returned with a large, stuffed to capacity T-shirt bag.  So what did this guy get me to eat? Beef!

It was the Arayis pita, ground beef in a thin pita was featured star in this combo.  It came with a side of french fries, fattoush salad and completely unexpected large stack of triangular pita in a plastic bag with a large portion of hummus.  Well there wasn't much flavor to the pita itself for me but the salad was spectacular.  French fries, does anyone ever go wrong when they cook it fresh?

I can't say I am a fan of this place but I'm sure by the look of my brother-in-laws face that this won't be the last time that we will call them.  He was completely satisfied.  Maybe it best not be paired with french fries.  There was alot of sodium that made it hard to taste the pita.  But promise to try again, but would at least stop and have the salad anytime.

The best part, my brother-in-law paid less then $15 for the enormous amount of food.

I don't have extensive experience with Lebanese food, so I don't know how good Grape Leaf is compared to the other places in town.  I just know that I love Lebanese food the way Grape Leaf makes it.

I started coming here with other people years ago before I was adventurous enough to try the stuff with "weird" names.  The menu said "Lebanese and American Cuisine" on the cover, and I was greatly relieved.  Of course I ordered the "Famous Burger" with two patties.  To my great surprise, it was epic, and from then on I had no complaints about coming here.

Eventually, I started trying things like kabob and shawarma, and I haven't looked back since.  I don't think I've ordered the burger here in 5 years or more.  I am completely hooked on the hummus (or "hommous" depending on who you ask), which goes perfect with the pita (fresh and deep fried) that they serve while you wait for your meal.  The rice is just awesome.  The lunch meals come with hummus, yellow rice, and "house salad", but I usually ask to swap out the salad for double rice, which they do for free.

There are a few more things to note about Grape Leaf.  First, for an ethnic food joint, they are surprisingly kid friendly with several very good menu items perfect for the non-adventurous American kid.  Second, The party platters are amazing; perfect for take out, or a table full of people who don't know what to order.  And third, you have to try a smoothie from their "liquid health bar".  They make amazing fruit drinks out of mango, papaya, strawberries, etc.

The service has always been what I'd call "laid back"; not bad, but not snappy either.  Just don't come here on a day when you're in a hurry or you may be frustrated.  Plan to take your time and enjoy yourself.

While some may argue that Byblos is THE place for Middle Eastern food here in Toledo, I'd have to disagree and say that that would apply to Grape Leaf Diner. This unassuming restaurant is a gastronomic delight, to say the least.

From the pita and hummus down to the baklava, GLD has something for every taste bud. Or if you're me, you'd be smart enough to sample a bit of everything. The hummus had a fabulous blend of creaminess that paralleled the hummus that can be found over at Columbus' Cafe Shish Kabob and Cafe Istanbul. Tender with just the right juiciness, the chicken kabob was perfectly grilled and paired quite well with the yellow rice. Baklavas are NOT to be overlooked here at GLD, as they maintained the crispiness while boasting the sugary goodnesses that ooze out of the dessert and into your mouth as you bite into one of these things.

Sadly, however, the food were salty enough that I had drink an entire pool's worth of water following the meal. So, if you are on a salty food binge, be sure to swing by GLD.

Pretty good Middle eastern food at very reasonable prices.  A family run buisness that stays true to its roots.  Everything on the menu is good, the swarma, lamb kabobs, the hummus all good.  There cajun steak fries are pretty good too, although you can chose rice instead.  They do not serve alcohol like most Arab restaurants but there fruit smoothies are pretty good, recommend the papaya.  The atmosphere is nothing special but for what they charge what can you expect.
