I stayed here for the Simi Valley trip I went on last week.  I booked the room with the King bed online - $60.  I wasn't expecting anything nice at this price, but was pleasantly surprised!

I've stayed at a few hotels on business, and in terms of size, cleanliness, amenities, and everything else it is pretty much average.  It has everything I would expect and need, and a few extra perks (A fine dining restaurant downstairs and a sports bar attached next to that}.  The service was very friendly too.

The key to the four stars here is the price.  Other hotels I've stayed at have offered roughly the same package as the Grand Vista, but for double the price.

Room - 3 stars
Amenities - 3.5 stars
Service - 4 stars
Price - 5 stars
Value - 4 stars

I went to the sports bar one night, but not for long.  I just needed a drink or 3 after a rough day.  I can tell you the Stella Artois and Makers Mark are not watered down at all.  It is your typical sports bar, although they serve sandwiches and other food, and I was surprised to see they have Texas Hold'em nights 2 nights a week.  4 stars

I ordered the fried Calamari from the restaurant downstairs, along with the ice cream.  Calamari was only the rings, very heavily breaded and greasy.  The cocktail sauce that came with it was very horseradishy, spicy, tangy, and flavorful - the way I like it.  The ice cream had no flavor at all.  I don't feel right rating a place just on that, but I would avoid the calamari and ice cream, and I would try the shrimp cocktail that has that same sauce.

Bottom Line:  A good hotel with all your standard fare - no frills but a couple of extra perks - for about half of what you'd expect.  Works for me - I'll be back!

Ah, the Grand Vista. It's the hotel on the hill with a view of the valley below and the mountains beyond so it's aptly named. I'm torn between giving this place either a 2 or 3 star review. The hotel itself it nice enough with amenities like a pool, gym and bar/restaurant on site, but their housekeeping is deplorable.

I've stayed at this hotel a few times when I was a consultant working in the area, but never again. The last time I stayed, when I walked into my room, I found a used wash cloth just lying there next to the TV cabinet and the carpet was sticky as though it were recently cleaned, but the cleaning solution residue remained. Needless to say, I kept my shoes on until I was ready for bed. After climbing into bed, I found that the bedspread smelled of cheap men's cologne which made me immediately throw it off of me and wish for a black light so I could see what the hell else was not especially clean. When I woke up the next day, I had a red rash on my left hip and I'm not one to break out in a rash - ever. I guess the sheets were messed up, too.

So yes, it's price friendly, but if you want a clean room, considering my experience, I suggest staying at the Holiday Inn Express.

Admittedly, this is a slightly outdated review, but I'm currently on a kick of reviewing places I've been to for weddings. So I was here for a wedding in June 2007. I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights and attended the wedding reception in what I assume was one of their special event rooms.

I'd give their hotel 4 stars and the reception venue 2 stars.

The hotel itself was quite good for the value. It wasn't extraordinary or really even out-of-the-ordinary, but it was ridiculously cheap for a classic old hotel and included a fairly good breakfast with the price, as well as a free daily well drink at the bar! They room was decent size with a king bed, and there was also a fitness center and pool, which amazed me given how cheap it was to stay here. The place was a little bit run down, though. You could definitely tell it was an older hotel.

The wedding reception area was kind of disappointing. It just didn't seem like a great place to have a wedding unless it's small and more casual. My friend tried to make the wedding on the more formal side (5pm ceremony, evening reception on a Saturday), and it just didn't work well with the run-down-looking banquet room. We were also smashed into the other  guests like sardines. There were only maybe 90 people at this wedding, but boy were we crammed. And this was apparently their biggest room. Not good. There was also no space for a head table, so the pseudo-head table an ordinary round table like all the guest tables) only held 8 people. With the bride, groom, and 10 attendants, this meant 4 of us in the wedding party were outta luck. Instead of socializing with my friends who were in the wedding party, I was put at a random table with a couple friends not in the wedding party and some people I'd never met.

There was a dance floor, although it was kind of small for the event I was attending. The bar also didn't fit inside the room, so you had to go outside into the hotel area itself to order any kind of beverage, alcoholic or soda.  I think this could be an ok venue for a smaller and really casual wedding, but it didn't work for my friend's more traditional vision of a wedding. The reception was kind of lackluster.

Note: I've seen the other reviews, so I guess they've significantly reduced their prices recently. I paid less than $70 for a standard room with a King-sized bed, which was an excellent price.

The quality of Grand Vista is between that of an inn and a hotel. The services are a bit light, and there's no complimentary breakfast. But everything else was excellent, including the gym, swimming pool, and free internet and computer access. The room was also very spacious and came with a couch. For the price, the place was an excellent deal.

Nice place for the price. I paid $60 a night for a king room. The rooms have a couch, desk, internet access, and microwave and fridge. There is also a gym that is available for use 24 hours a day. They also have a tiny "shop" if you need to pick up some incidentalslike toothpaste, deodorant, etc. that you may have forgotten. Maybe not a lot by the way of tourist attractions in the area but still a nice hotel if you are going to be in the area. I stayed here and ventured into LA, Hollywood, Santa Monica from here. Really easy to get around, just expect the usual SoCal traffic somewhere.
There is no ventilation fan in the bathroom, my only complaint, as the bathroom gets pretty steamy after a shower and you will have to prop the door open to air out the room.
There is also a sports bar, the Arena attached to the hotel. While I did not get a chance to go it seems to draw a good crowd from the city.
There's a Del Taco just at the corner with a 24hr drive thru and a Starbucks with a drive thru a couple of blocks away.

Nice enough for the price but not amazing.

The hotel looks and smells (and probably is) old.  This manifests itself in a couple annoying ways (like not having a ventilation fan in the bathroom) but isn't a serious problem.  The hotel felt 90% vacant while I was there, so I guess that's a plus.

Rooms come with free drink and breakfast tickets, which are nice.  The breakfast is a little scant but it's free (with ticket) and good enough to tide you over.

And most importantly, there's a Del Taco just across the street for those 3am taco runs.

Well, for most of our stay this place smelled of Chinese food and shrimp cocktail. The check in was easy, but the room was very humid and the air did little to help it. The prices were okay for what we got. The parking was nice and free. The free drink to the sports bar next store was a nice surprise, but the free breakfast was quite bleak. There was no fruit to speak of, very busy and no one assisting guests. It was a small step above Motel 6 "continental" breakfast. The big problem we had was that they would not allow us a late check in. We asked for one hour past noon and they told us they were unable to provide us with that service. I have rarely ever had to ask for a late check out, but you would think they would try to be more accommodating. There is not much in this area, but the location is nice- right across from the Simi Valley Town Center.

i'm in this place for a significant amount of time, so i hope they don't read this and decide that i should "add more" to my review.
its a decent place especially for the price. they give you a complimentary coupn for a drink each night at the bar, and coupons to go to the continental breakfast in the morning. haven't taken them up on the drink coupon yet (i'm not THAT stressed yet), but did take them up on the continental breakfast. it was alright. you know, standard free fair: muffins, some rubbery eggs, oj, and your choice of cereals. it gets the day started.
the rooms are decent. no cloud beds or central air. you have one of those fabulous wall units and the bed is stuffed with rather uncomfy pillows, but you can make do if you toss all but one off the bed. the bathroom is situated at the very entrance of the room so the door must be closed at all times to the bathroom otherwise you can't get out. i'm not liking that took much. there is free internet, but not wifi. they kindly provide you with the use of a ethernet cable but don't take it from the room or it'll be $10. on the plus side there's a microwave and mini fridge in the room which is perfect for those dinners that you eat in your hotel room alone because, quite frankly,  you have found nothing interesting to do besides go to the gym and surf yelp. all in all a decent place for a decent price.
