I am the only person that likes Grand. I know this. But for some reason, something about their Tangtini (awesomely retro! and yes, it's rimmed with Tang powder!) and the ever-changing colors on the light wall draw me in. Plus, who could not love a bar that played a dance remix of Do You Think I'm Sexy? with coordinating wall color changes?!
Not fun really unless you're sitting down, either at the bar or up above the crowds. Waving a credit card helps here. Never had a not nice bartender. Drinks are super strong. Not too difficult to get a table, just be charming. VIP tables in front are totally worthless, don't bother. Came with a girlfriend earlier one night and we got fondue and martinis. Give this place a chance!
Pee before you go, the bathrooms are always packed. Good for a Friday night when you're not really feeling like waiting in NYC for the Metro North between the hours of 2 and 6 am.

If you want to hang out with pretentious, New York City wannabes, this would definitely be the place.
Enjoy that overpriced cocktail.
When looking for a upscale bar experience in Stamford, CT. you might be somewhat out of luck, but fortunately for you NYC is close by!
The crowd at Grand leaves something to be desired and coupled with pricey drinks and only fair service, I would suggest you hop on the Metro North and go into NYC for the evening.
Grand used to be good place to spend some time with friends, however, now it's a place with a lot of people with attitudes! Drinks are just OK. Most of the staff who works there is not friendly at all!
Skip GRAND and go to the NYC
This is my go-to bar in Stamford and it's the best place to experience a black-out.
It's a bi-level resto housed in an old department store.
The bartenders are good at getting you drunk-y.
The crowd is definitely a mélange of characters and I think that's what makes it a good time.
The music...well I never remember hearing music but I know it's playing. BONUS: the food is phenomenal.

Pricey drinks made by bartenders with an attitude. Average flavored martinis. Relatively okay food. Some creative plates including a lobster bruschetta and good staples such as tuna tartare. Their mac and cheese is very rich and flavored with truffle oil. For the price range though (both drinks and food), there are so many good restaurants in the area, I would go elsewhere.

I've only eaten here a few times, but the food was average. As a place to have a drink, it's great. Relaxed atmosphere after work, with larger crowds on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nite. Late nite nightlife sometimes leads to crowds at the bathroom and because of the way the bathroom area is situated, sometimes it takes forever to relieve yourself. This is a great "meet for a drink" type first date place because it's laid back, trendy and not loud.

I can't believe this place hasn't been reviewed yet. Let me start this review by commenting on the bar/lounge experience. When I am not in New York City, this is the only place I like to frequent and when it comes to Cuban Night (more on that in a bit) I make sure I never miss it. A very "new york lounge" feel, Grand has comfortable couch seating, an ample and accessible main bar with another on the second floor, and the best music in the area on any night of the week.
Now, let me elaborate a bit on Cuban Night. Every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, the Band Ola Fresca performs at the Grand. They are an up and coming Cuban band with traditional roots and a fresh sound. You will always find me at the grand dancing up a sweat. The floor is carpeted, which is not exactly conducive for dancing, but the crowd makes due.
Truth be told, I never thought the restaurant would be any good. I always thought of this place as a lounge, not as a dining establishment. That changed the other night when I decided to eat there (before a Cuban night). The wine list is surprisingly well apportioned (though they were missing the Petite Syrah I wanted) and the menu is interesting (Tuna Tartar Pizza). Everything ordered by myslef and my friends was well prepared and nicely presented.
I now make an effort to eat here and not just (drink and) dance the night away.

Grand is my favorite bar in Stamford! It has such a wonderful atmosphere. It's a lounge that serves drinks as well as food. During the later hours of the weekend, you'll find the place packed wall to wall with people as a DJ spins some great dance music! Drinks are pretty pricy, but you get what you pay for - yummy drinks (there's this blue lemonade thing they make there which is delicious!), really nice atmosphere, and a very good-looking 20's to 30's crowd.

The people on here are joking right??? If your looking for mediocre drinks in a stale "lounge-y" space filled with Long Island meathead wannabes bobbing their heads to last year's techno...then this place is for you. Please stay there and don't taint what few decent bars Stamford actually has.

It is the only "good" bar in Stamford to go to because there aren't that many bars in Stamford to compare it to. I mean come on, when you're comparing it to the likes of Hula Stanks and Thirsty Turtle, of course it's going to rate it as the best bar to go to. Their food is good and the drinks are a bit pricey - their cocktails are good, but not outstanding. I've certainly have had better for the price range. It used to be great when it first opened. They ought to hire the bartenders based more on their looks - one girl upstairs couldn't make a vodka tonic without it tasting like absolute crap! The crowd is definitely better than what you find at the other "popular" bars in Stamford, although that in itself doesn't say much. It's usually a motley crew mix. Some nights it's great, other nights you just want to get the hell out of there. They do have excellent happy hours, though.
Probably the best lounge in Stamford. Their Tuna Tartar Pizza is amazing too. They have a good wine list and make good mojitos too.
