Uhm, where were you guys?? This place was at 1/3 capacity (at best).  But you know what that means: more rodeo for me!

Not only does the rodeo showcase all forms of wranglin', dog herdin', baby cow wrestlin' (yeah, that's right), barrel racin' (the Grandma won that one), and of course, bull ridin'; they also featured wine tasting, Western wear merchants, and pretty ponies for the kiddies to fondle.

There was plenty of beer to be had by all (unfortunately the Cow Palace only offers the piss water better known as Coor's and Bud).  Not to mention beef jerky (bull jerky?).  Where else can you find someone hawking necklaces made of twisted gold wire featuring your name on a horses head? (ask Amanda V., it's now her most prized possession)  As for me, I'm cool off horse head necklaces (though the craftsmanship was exceptional), but I did get my cowboy boots spiffied up for free, and procured some tasty cashew coconut brittle.  You guys missed out, that's for sho'.

Oh, and the topper: free Go Girl! energy drinks (don't you think Red Bull would be a more appropriate corporate sponsor?, I'm just sayin').  There's something quite entertaining about watching big beefy cowboys sip a pink calorie free energy drink called Go Girl!

First off, I'd like to apologize to the nice people who paid $42 for box tickets only to have our loud-mouth group invade their box although we only paid $27 for dress circle tickets. I am truly sorry.

I am sorry that our hootin' and hollerin' drowned out the strange announcer who constantly said rather inappropriate things like "That cowpoke may have conquered diabetes, but he can't conquer that steer!"

I apologize that after being schooled on such organizations that we didn't know existed in this country such as "Goat Lovers of America" and "Pig Lovers of America" my friend yelled out "goat lovers!" right during the only eerily quiet time of the night.

I am sorry that we weren't in any way trying to disguise the fact that we came to the rodeo expressly to scope out the hot cowboys. Yes, I'm truly sorry for having exposed your innocent teenage daughter to our shenanigans. There were five of us, five single, beer-soaked gals at the Cow Palace on a Saturday night and there's something so hot about a man who really knows how to handle an animal.

I'm sorry, good people of Box 6. But thanks a lot for not having us kicked out!

Here's a review of the Rodeo from someone who absolutely, positively never thought she would be at the Rodeo.  At the Cow Palace.
Ever. EverEver.

Why did I go?  Free tickets, free parking, promise of people watching, and alcohol.

Big surprise.  It pretty much sucked.

However, I am happy to report that the animals were the clear winners overall, especially the bull riding.

It was these filler exhibition events in between the actual animal events which were so freaking painful.

There were Clown Comedians, Chicks in Sparkly outfits riding horses, Roping Exhibitions, Tennessee Walking Horses, zzzzzzz.
Oh sorry, I just fell asleep there for a moment.

This is an event that was MADE for Huell Howser.  It's kind of home-spun and cornball like that.

Huell: "You mean you *ride* the bucking horse?  Until you fall off?  That's Amaaaazzzing!"

For those outside CA or just out of the loop : http://www.youtube.com...

If Huell WAS there, I would have given the Rodeo 100 stars. But that goes for anything, not just the Rodeo.  Huell makes every day like Christmas.

As a child I attended one of the best Rodeo's in my life I believe it was an all day thing.  At least I have a memory of it.  It may have been a prison Rodeo... I just remember way more going on.

Needless to say: BYOB = RODEO at the Cow Palace.  Yeah they don't check your bags here at all.  Bring your own drinks, because you will need to be throughly inebriated to enjoy yourself and the drinks are way expensive and crappy.  Only coors and budweiser.
I don't know, maybe it was just because last night of the Rodeo.  It was still quite an experience.
I got a gold necklace with my name written in gold on a horses head.  I'm so rockin' that for days.   There were many a leather crafts... and Emily "Sassy Simone" X got here boots shined for free.  I petted some horses and a beautiful fluffy sheep hearding dog.

To top it off there was a dance in the dirt at the end of the night... turns out cowboys don't really dance. We left and went to the bar instead.

Oh and this crazy lady got me in for $15 bucks... the Rodeo rules!... if you're a little drunk.

Yee haw!  If you regularly read my reviews, then it might surprise you that I am a cowgirl deep down.  I sort of keep it on the DL.  This wasn't my first rodeo...but I was overcome with joy when I found out that the rodeo was being staged in the Cow Palace.  I mean UBER excited.  Lately, my weekends need a little bit of shaking up in the city.

My friend and I chose to go to the last day of the GNR, which was followed with the Buckin Ball.  The other days held pretty big country music acts, but I am not really a fan of modern country music so that didn't interest me.  Cow Palace has been mentioned in some of the historical novels that I have read about California so I was a bit shocked by the late 70s era interior and infrastructure.  Maybe I was expecting a wood paneled arena with uncomfortable benches.

The rodeo itself is very entertaining and exciting with the different competitions, and my favorite was the cowgirls and the barrel racing.  Being that the event was so close to SF, I was hoping to see some cowboys from the Castro sporting some leather chaps.  Instead I got pot bellied cowboys from places like Oakdale and Livermore.  Nonetheless, there were some cute cowboys making the rounds...there was also an equal amount of rodeo hos' on patrol.  The interaction between the 2 was amusing.  The rodeo lasted about 3 hours and they opened up the grounds for everyone when the Buckin Ball started.  The idea of slow dancing with a cowboy would have been a nice ending for the evening; however dancing in horse shit woundn't have been good for my Polish suede cowboy boots and my friends Manolo mocs so we hightailed it back to the city to Rosewood.

Just went today for the very first time.  It was delightful, family friendly, and worth every bit of the $27/adult for the 2.5 hour Saturday afternoon show.  It's one thing to see bull riding, calf roping, and lasso tricks on TV...but waaay better to see it in person.  I felt lucky to be able to see something like this without having to drive several hours out into the country.

I had been forewarned by my Texan bf that it might take a beer (like some depressing Giants games) to be more entertaining.  Not so.  I only hope Daly City doesn't force Cow Palace to close down for good because they want to build more condos on the land.
