Last weekend, I met two of my best friends from law school for a little reunion in D.C.  As Ava B., the one denizen of the general area, actually lives in Virginia, the three of us sprang for a hotel downtown for two nights.  When Ava said this would only set us back about $100 per night, I didn't realize that figure would get us into the Grand Hyatt.

It ended up costing $113 a night, all told, for a total of $226 split between three girls.    Not bad at all.  The hotel was great.  Our room was comfortable, clean and comfortable with two soft twin beds.  Elevators were kind of slow, but otherwise no real complaints.

I also enjoyed the Hyatt's downtown location.  Our cabs were cheap wherever we went, and there were things to do within walking distance.  The hotel did feel more like a business hotel than a getaway - Ava requested an inward-facing room, in part because her office was in view of many of the rooms.  It was no Grand Hyatt Kauai in that sense and many, but it was exactly what we needed for our stay.

I do wonder what the rates are like during the week, when business travels, and in more hospitable months.  I imagine that my friends and I were not the target demographic of the Grand Hyatt in downtown D.C.  No matter - we got a good deal and a pleasant stay, and I'd recommend it for a comfortable hotel in this part of town.

I think the best thing about the hotel is the location. It's in the vicinity of chinatown and in the midst of many restaurants, bars, museums and shops. It's also just blocks from the Verizon Center.  For train riders, there's a subway stop near by.

The hotel itself is nice but I think average for a Hyatt.  While the lobby is asthetically pleasing, the rooms are fairly basic but clean. Staff is on the curt side.

It's not a bad place to stay at all but the rooms won't wow you or anything. Not a bad value for the right price and again, good location. Starbucks downstairs in the lobby for those that need a kick in the morning!

Overall, this place gets a solid "Meh."

This review is long overdue as I stayed there more than a year ago for two weeks during a conference.  Cost wasn't a huge factor as my employer was footing the bill, so I'm not considering it in my review.

    Let's break it down:

    LOVED IT:
    - The lobby bar and restaurant were great... quiet, interesting configuration (multiple levels, fun!), good service, and good wine list.
    - Starbucks in the lobby. For this Seattle girl, that's a huge plus.
    - The front desk staff was friendly at check-in and check-out.  I realized when I got home that I had lost my receipt, and their accounting department was very accomodating about quickly replacing it for me.
    - Close to the convention center and other area hotels.

    HAAAATED IT:
    - I arrived at the tail end of another convention, and that group's hospitality suite was literally right next door to my room.  It was open until 2:00 in the morning... EVERY NIGHT.  I could literally hear every conversation in the hallway, including one about someone's child's conception and questionable parentage.  Awesome.  I called hotel security on them every night in hopes of actually getting some sleep, and every night, got nowhere in a hurry.  It took two or three phone calls to the front desk each time before they even sent security (I could tell, since I could hear every single thing going on in that room).  I asked to be moved two nights in a row, and was told there were no rooms available.  It was honestly one of the most frustrating hotel experiences I've ever encountered (and I'm in the travel industry, so that's saying something).
    - Someone was stabbed right in front of the hotel during my stay.  Nothing says welcome to DC like an aggravated assault right on your doorstep!
    - Housekeeping apparently skipped my room... 4 days in a row.  I checked to make sure my door hanger was set accordingly (yep), and still, nothing.  Finally I had to call and request fresh towels, at which point I mentioned that my room had not been made up for two days.  You'd think that such a call might put your room on housekeeping's radar for the next day, but alas, it was 2 days later before my room was finally made up.

I've stayed at a lot of Hyatts, and this one definitely fell short of my expectations.

Why is everyone so butt-hurt over the prices?  It's a hotel and you will be raped for everyday items.  They signed me up for some Hyatt membership thing which was free and I didn't have to pay for my internet at all (5 days).

I thought the service was great.  Check in went smooth.  Check out was even easier as I called to have my bags brought down (and the guy was there in 5 minutes) and was told I could just leave the key in the room.  No standing in line.  That's about all the service I need.  The Starbucks folks were efficient.  The Cure Bar and Bistro and Grand Slam sports bar were solid and had GREAT staff.

If I'm unfortunate enough to return to DC, then I will definitely be staying here again.

This is certainly a very visually lush hotel.  From the moment you walk in, their atrium design is impressive.  The multi-level effect of their dining area with the fountain pool adds to the atmosphere.  But this is a hotel, so where I lay my head at night is really what it is all about.  My room was on the small side and the bathroom was outfitted more like a public restroom than a upper-scale hotel.  Not the end of the world, but it just didn't seem to fit the rest of the image the hotel is trying to convey.  The Grand Hyatt Lounge was actually one of the nicer versions I have been to.  Spacious and a delightful spread of food and drinks with a view of the lobby far below.  WiFi is only free for Diamond status, otherwise it is $11 or $16 depending on your speed requirements.  The restaurant has a very inviting menu and some great wine tasting specials.  Lastly, it has a door with direct access to the Metro Center Metro station, which makes it very convenient to take one train straight to DCA.

#1 reason: Great rates!! I usually stay at another hotel a block over but I saw a room for less than $100/night. At that price, why not give Grand Hyatt a chance.

Aside from the deal, the hotel is in a great location with shopping, galleries, and nightlife within walking distance.

The room had plenty of space and.. wait for it... A FRIDGE!! That's usually a requested item. I'm glad it was there because the bucket of ice wasn't doing anything for the bottle of wine that needed to be chilled and my leftovers I was going to eat on the train.

Speaking of trains, the metro was a stone's throw which took me straight to Union Station.

The breakfast buffet was PHENOMENAL!! When was the last time you went to a buffet and there were plums? PLUMS! Bacon, sausage, oatmeal, watermelon slices, parfait, omelet bar... The buffet was one of the main reasons I stayed again just recently (particularly the omelet bar).

Keep it up Grand Hyatt and you may have a guest for life!

The location of this hotel was absolutely superb and the fact that the hotel is right above the Metro station makes it an even bigger gem. If you're coming over from the Metro over to the hotel you need to get out of the 11 & G exit and check for a sign that says "Grand Hyatt Washington."

Everything is within walking distance... you want the Smithsonian- a 15 minute walk, you want Chinatown (Which is the lively part of town which I would equate more to NY's Times Square than a Chinatown)- a 5 minute walk and the Art Museum- also a 5 minute walk.

The staff here was very friendly and helpful. The rooms themselves were very clean, looked good and were somewhat modern however they felt a bit poorly maintained.

Unfortunately there are no grocery stores close by however I was able to find that if you traveled to Foggy Bottom, there is a Whole Foods right next to the Metro Station. Overall, I will definitely recommend this hotel due to it's sheer convenience.

If you're ever in DC and need a nice place to stay this is it. It is central to everything and has a main metro stop below it. We got the Amore package and got a nice room with a king size bed, a bottle of the best champagne I've had, three chocolate covered strawberries and the best breakfast buffet you can imagine for two people for under $300.00. On top of that, the room service and the food were outstanding. The only thing to watch out for is the parking fee. If possible and on a weekend use free parking on the street.

Terrible. Gorgeous lobby and average rooms but terrible service and no minibar. When we arrived we were greeted by a sign saying valet and self park options were full. No valet to assist so we drove around dealing with parking and luggage. Then there was no do not disturb sign but a level/lock that I turned. Housekeeping basically woke me up and gave me a lecture through the door to use the hanging sign that was not in the room. Terrible.

This is a great hotel... and for the price, it should be. Granted, I wasn't paying for it (company flew me up to DC and paid for the hotel), but at $249 a night, I had high expectations. The Grand Hyatt did not disappoint.

As others on here have mentioned, the location is fantastic. It didn't take me more than 15 minutes to get anywhere in DC, including the airport. The bellhops flag the taxis for you (and most of the time, they are waiting right by the hotel anyway), so you don't have to wait long at all. I wasn't adventurous enough to try the Metro, since I don't know the public transportation system in DC at all, but this place has its own station!

The hotel lobby is just gorgeous. I think they had extra money to throw around, because the random gazebo in the middle of the place, and piano on its own island, weren't necessary (but they looked cool). My room was on the first floor, which in this hotel was really the second floor. It was a comfortable room that even had a small refrigerator, which was nice. The bed was quite comfortable, and had lots of pillows, which I appreciated. The TV was a flat screen, either 40 or 42 inches, and even had a few HD channels. I did notice that the walls were rather thin, because I heard my neighbors talking quite a bit... Thankfully, we appeared to have similar sleep schedules.

In terms of service, I certainly put them to the test. When I first got into my room, I realized I had forgotten to bring a razor. I called the front desk and asked if they had any. The woman said, "Of course! Do you need shaving cream as well?" Five minutes later, I was brought a razor, shaving cream, and some extra shampoo. I also probably met a quarter of their wait staff. All of my meals were comped as long as I ate at the hotel, so I took full advantage and ordered room service four times during my stay. Every person I met or spoke with was extremely polite and friendly.

The food itself? It wasn't bad... certainly overpriced, but room service usually is. I did have one instance where I ordered grapefruit juice with my breakfast, and what was served was some sort of red cocktail concoction. It did not taste like grapefruit at all, and had some sort of chemical taste to it. I normally try not to complain about food, but at $4 a glass, I just could not drink this. So I called room service and told them, and the woman was very apologetic and offered to send up another drink right away.

The only drawback here was during check out. They billed my personal credit card for the room service, even though the company paying for it had specifically said to bill it to the room. The girl at the checkout acted like there wasn't anything she could do, so I called the person paying for the room and handed over my cell phone. I'm glad I was able to get a hold of her, because otherwise I would've had quite an expensive credit card bill for no reason. **edit: they still charged my personal card $32 (which was not the full amount they tried to charge originally). I'm not happy about this. The lady at the checkout told me I wouldn't get charged anything on that card.**

Overall I did enjoy my stay, and I'd consider staying here again (even if I did have to pay). On my previous stay in DC, I had to stay in Rockville, so staying in such a great location this time around made a huge difference.

I stayed 1 night - Sunday to Monday - at the Grand Hyatt. The only reason I gave 2 stars was for the location and the lobby, both outstanding. Close to everything (Smithsonian, Chinatown, version center, museums) and when you walk in, it's almost breathtaking.

However, the rooms and the services were disappointing.  Upon arrival I waited in line for 25 min. After check in, I head up to the room, excited to see what it looks like.... The keys didn't work.  Then I had to take all my stuff back down to get the key's "re-keyed," I come back up and THE SAME THING.  Back down I go.   Well since third time is the charm... they finally worked.  VERY Frustrating, minimal apology and no compensation was offered. This took 30 more min of my time.

Inside: The lighting in the room was terrible. The bathroom was what you'd expect to see in a rest-stop (complete with the stainless steel industrial flush lever), and the bathtub was small and yellowish. Everything seems like they put minimal effort and money into fixture and amenity selection, site says TV is HD (its not), Internet was overly expensive, all the soda/drinks were gone from the vending machine and the valet was so slow bringing my car around.

The Bill: they charged $40 2x for valet which they took off happily when I said I only stayed for 1 night. Then they charged $2 for a 5 second local call to call my cell phone after I lost it.  Glad I didn't call anyone else.

Lets just say for the Grand-Hyatt price ($235), its not wort staying here.

My comment concerns no particular Hyatt location but rather, the service I received after I made a dumb mistake booking a Hyatt stay. Clicked OK to confirm arrival on the date I made the booking, not my intended date two months later. I called the following day, i.e. checkout day, explained the mistake and received a refund. Hyatt could have said tough luck, pay attention next time, but they chose to preserve a relationship rather than profit from my error.

This is just smart customer service so it did not amaze me. But I contrast it with the behavior of, say, banks, which make a religion of screwing customers. Hyatt obviously understands that one happy customer is worth more than a few bucks.

I was very impressed with the Grand Hyatt Washington's immediate concern with my YELP social media review.  The General Mgr was genuinely interested in my review, called me on the phone, and promised to take my comments seriously.  This is mark of great management, and it shows they are paying attention to consumer detail and want to improve every guests experience with Hyatt. This hotel cares about the individual and that's where it starts!

Two of my friends and I stayed in this hotel last month and we loved it! It has a perfect location! We literally took the Metro direct from the airport to the Metro Center stop, which has a walkway direct to the interior of the hotel. This is not noted in Google Maps so something to pay attention to. We did not have a car, but within a 1 mile radius we had tons of restaurants,a forever 21, h&m, zara, and numerous tourist sites.

Also, do note that the Costco offer for "buy 2 nights, get a 3rd free at Hyatt" does not apply to this location because apparently "Grand" Hyatts do not participate! It is confusing because the website does accept the code. When we showed the front desk, they did not honor the offer BUT they did offer us a very good business rate (~$112/night) which included free breakfast (amazingg) and wireless internet. The breakfast was something like $17 if you didn't have the business rate.

Btw, I want to say that OMARI, in particular, was always really helpful and friendly to us; we were exhausted from travelling and he went out of his way to make things work out.

If you plan to stay in the hotel alot or long-term, it may not be a good idea to stay here. I could not find any grocery or pharmacy stores nearby, and there is no fridge or microwave in the room. I think it is an excellent choice for tourists who are barely in their room, business travellers, and conference attendees :)

We stayed one night recently for a wedding. And below is a quick run down of my experience:

    Facility: 4 Stars
For the price range, this place is pretty grand. It is huge, and well maintained. The decor inclines on the fancier side however some elements such as plants seems just to be thoughtless fillers. ("let's throw something bushy and green there...").
The guest elevators is only on one side of the building, so if your room happens to be at the other end of the building, be prepared to take a long stroll to your room. If you staying with Grandma and she isn't used to the NYC walking commute then I would suggest you to book a room closer to the elevators.

    Room: 3.5 stars
It was spacious. Big bathroom. Clean and well furnished. Liked that they provided you with toothpaste. My problem with the room was with sound proofing or the fact that the walls were too thin. Or, that everyone slams their door really loud and likes to talk really loud so we can hear them.

    Service: 3.5 Stars
We really didn't have much to say about this category. Since we did the express check in and out with the console next to the front desk. The line to actual human service was too long and we were in a rush to drop our bags. We did check in 45 mins before 3pm, so that was great and helpful. Grand Hyatt did not get 5 stars because they seem to have issues on housekeeping logistics.
The next day, before we got up to get ready for check out, the housekeeping knocked on our door by 9am (really? That early?). Then again after roughly 30-45 mins. Quite strange. We spoke to friends of ours who stayed a few doors down, they experienced the same (they also checked out that day). I have seen smaller and bigger hotels doing a better coordination/having a better system than this.
Oh and they tweeted me after I checked in on Foursquare, welcoming me to their hotel. Cute.

Would I go back? Hmm.. maybe, wouldn't be my first option though.

Having stayed in the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, I was expecting a lot from the Grand Hyatt Washington.  The Tokyo one was by far the greatest hotel I've ever stayed in.

Washington edition?  Not so much.  While the inside courtyard is pretty incredible (Grand hardly even describes it -- it felt like something you'd see in Dubai), the rest of the experience wasn't particularly remarkable.  Only one bank of elevators on one end of the building, which means you have a super long walk to them and then back to actually get to the "front" rooms.  Bathrooms were poorly lit (not in a cozy way), and they had toilets that you'd expect to find in Union Station (complete with the industrial flush lever.  wtf?  in a hyatt?!)  TV says it's HD but wasn't, internet was super expensive (and due to density there, cell data service was totally saturated and slow, so there's little alternative), and the valet was unbelievably slow getting my car on my way out.

This would all be fine if it was cheap, but it's not.

The bf and I took a little trip to DC to visit a friend who had moved to the area.  At first we were going to bum it and sleep on her pull out couch.  The more I thought about all the sight-seeing we were going to do, I realized it would be a better idea to get a hotel.

Thanks to my great procrastination skills and AAA, I got a good deal on two nights at the Hyatt.  The Hyatt has easy access to the metro and has an entrance to the metro from the hotel.  It is a short walk to popular attractions like Ford Theater, Chinatown, the Smithsonian museums and the White House.  There are also some good places to eat nearby.

The customer service at the hotel is excellent. They let us check in early. The lady who checked us in was friendly and extremely apologetic when she had trouble with activating our key cards.  She later gave us a courtesy call to make sure our room was okay.  Also, while they charge for wifi, if you join their membership club, they waive the wifi fee.  Its free so I would just sign up (you get a late check-out as well with membership).

Our room was a good size, clean and a comfortable bed for a hotel bed. We did have a random housekeeping lady come by at 9pm which we thought was odd because we have never come across that before.

They have a few restaurants and Starbucks inside the hotel.   They also have a gift/convenience store that is over-priced but that is expected. It was late and we were lazy and ended up paying $8 for two bottles of water (liter size).  When it was time for us to check out, they held our bags so we could explore some more before we had to leave.  The great service we received at the Hyatt helped make it a great trip!

I almost gave the hotel 3 stars, but the location is way too good for that. And the first rule in real estate is Location, Location, Location. So 4 stars it is. Now that we know the location is primo - time for the rest of the hotel check list.

Rooms - All Hyatts have a certain standard of quality for rooms. This one was no exception. The bathroom was actually quite big. I stayed here with my girl, and considering all our stuff, there was plenty of closet space, drawers and 3 mirrors so getting ready at the same time wasn't an issue.

Food - I have been to the Hyatt before just for food at the Cure Bar and Bistro (that's about 3 to 3 1/2 stars on it's own), and to Grand Slam sports bar located in the lower level of the hotel which is pretty good as well. But this time, I check out the deli and it was so good or I was really hungry. Either way 4 stars.

Staff - They were really helpful and attentive. I can be a little high maintenance at times. Also, I noticed how much they were helping other guests. From what I could tell, most of the staff was knowledgeable about the city and local haunts.

Fitness Center - At this Hyatt guest have access to the Fit Club next door. It's actually pretty nice. The pool at the Hyatt - okay. My girl loves outdoor pools, so the lack of own had us sneaking into another hotel pool a couple of days. LOL

I did get a pretty good rate on the normal Hyatt website - better than a lot of other hotels in the area, ($109/night).

Overall, a great experience. Construction next door is a little disconcerting, but that's a temporary condition.

The Hyatt Grand is a nice place to stay if you're in D.C. If you're a gold passport member it's even nicer. As hotel rooms go, the Grand is just fine, nice soft beds and a decent workspace. They do charge for internet access which I think should be free. The BEST thing about the Grand is that it is literally around the corner from some of the great attractions in D.C. The White House is a ten minute walk and the National Mall is about the same. Very convenient if you're looking to do the tourist thing. The Grand Club on the twelfth floor has a great breakfast and cocktail set-up with delicious food to eat and a large selection of drinks to choose from.I also ate dinner one night at the sports bar in the basement. I had a passable reuben sandwich and a beer.

The staff was helpful and friendly. I would definitely consider this hotel again when I return to D.C. It's as good an HQ as it gets when you're in town.

I have stayed here twice & both times I have to say were wonderful.  Great location, easy access to the metro, you can be anywhere with easy.  Weay walk to most attractions if the weather is great, if the weather is bad...take the Metro.  Concierge was WONDERFUL!!!!!!!  Staff was top notch.  I had multiday business trips, but I was lucky to have to be there on the weekends whch meant I got a really great weekend rate...mid week can be a bit hard on the pocketbook, but it's DC.  First trip I booked did not include breakfast so we tried local resturants, my favorite is probably on Dives & Diners, but it was GREAT- the Lincoln Waffle House- reasonable prices, great service, good breakfast...really good breakfast & fast service.  The second trip I booked using the AAA rate & got free breakfast there every day- wonderful breakfast buffet- I loved the omlette bar!!!

The bistro in the bar upstairs was great as I got in late both trips & they were still open.  The sports bar downstairs was not worth the trip...go some where else.  The concierge got us reservations at Bobby Vans, and Ebbits.  She also got us a great price on an evening tour of the monuments & gave us discounts for several local eateries.  We were able to mix business with site seeing with her suggestions as neither me or my business partner had been to DC before.

The Grand Hyatt is centrally located to the main landmarks and attractions in DC. Just a few blocks away from the White House, the hotel offers comfortable accommodation for the business traveler.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt while we were on vacation in DC and were not disappointed. The only beef I have is that the bed is very bouncy and not the most comfortable, but it will do.

Overall, a pleasant experience at the Grand Hyatt Washington. I will be back again.

The hotel was clean and the food in the hotel was great.  The service was absolutely awful.  I had one of the conference suites and catered two events.  After the first event, I had to go down to the desk 5 times (3 times during the evening, twice the next morning) before they cleaned the suite.  They also had issues with the finances.  They put funds sent to the hotel under my name under different reservations.
We held an event in one of the conference rooms and they failed to have the projector and such set up for us, thus delaying the presentations.
There were numerous groups upset with the lack of attention to detail being paid by the staff and the staff just did not seem to care.
Yes, the place is clean and if you just want a room it is fine.  However, if you want quality service from them, forget it.

I had been searching for various hotels on my second visit to DC to take a family member sightseeing and this place came up. What i discovered is that prices tend to be rather less expensive as the weekend begins, my thought is that all government officials and business personnel leaves the city. Well i only paid $99 for the night plus tax of course. We arrived early as we took the 4a.m amtrak in and we got to the hotel by 8a.m. It is only a 15 minute taxi ride from Union Station. As we walked into the hotel i was surprised by how amazing it looked. Some of the rooms looked towards the inside and other faced outward into the street. We checked in with no problem with our early check-in priority. Our room faced out into a construction site, but we were lucky that there was no construction during that weekend. Our room was a double bed, it was very clean and had a desk with a t.v with a lot of channels. The bathroom was very clean and the beds were pest free. (not to imply there ever where) From the 6th floor hallway we are able to look down and see the pool that surrounds the breakfast dining area and the piano the is near the middle. (Note this is not the swimming pool. Its located elsewhere) We also had lunch in a one of the deli style store that is inside the hotel and the food there was good too. The hotel has a Cafe and a bar but I have no review on that since I did not go to them. It alThe concierge service was very knowledgeable when we asked for directions and information about sites and directed us on how to get there. The people were very friendly and serivce was very exceptional. Another plus thing was that the hotel had the Metro station through one of its doors. So you can enter the hotel straight through the Metro but I believe they close it at a specific time. Overall i really suggest this hotel for anyone who wants to be very close to food, and sites.

I stayed here this week for a conference. I got in late and the hotel was sold out so they had to put me in a "parlor" which is really a huge room with a pull out bed. They told me they could put me in the a regular room the next day, but I really had no problem with it.

The reason I wanted to Yelp this place was the FOOD. It was DELICIOUS! I have been to many conferences at hotels NATIONWIDE and I think this is the best food I had! Plus the location - connected to the Metro Center - made it really convenient for flying in/out of National Airport.

The only complaint I had is that when I called them to ask about transportation to the hotel, they told me there was not shuttle from the airport and a cab would cost me $20. They didn't tell me, "Oh you can just take the Metro" (which is a few bucks and is SUPER easy). I was annoyed by that. I almost wasted $20!

If I ever go back to Washington again, I'm definitely staying in this hotel. The scenery alone is gorgeous. You feel like you're in a mini-atrium. And the downstairs, sitting by the water, is extremely relaxing.

It was close to most landmarks and there were great restaurants all around. The breakfast buffet was a great price for a lot of food; reminded me of Golden Griddle.

Qualms: no microwave in the room; concierge wasn't the smartest. We asked him to direct us to the nearest liquor store and when we got there, it was closed down and gutted out. Get to know places you'll need before going.

I am only giving it 1 star because of the location and the spectacular view from the hotel rooms. But they lose the other 4 on their service.

    Service:

Gym: $10 per visit. While I understand hotels have started charging for internet and pay per view movies, this was the first time I had seen a hotel charge for their gym. I know this was not standard because we checked with the hotels around the Hyatt and one of their competitors not only gave free access to their own gym but also to a full private gym in the downtown area. We were disappointed to see that they were being cheap enough to charge for each gym visit.

Internet: $15.99 per computer. This is standard I agree, but they also did not have any WiFi in their lobby which was surprising.

Local Phone Calls: $1.17/ minute!!! This was a shocker for us. NO ONE charges for local phone calls, that too by the minute. We were really disappointed. If we knew they charged, we would have just used our cell phones to make those calls.

Concierge: We wanted to get a recommendation on a nice hotel in the area. I called the Guest Request service and the lady told me that I needed to call the concierge for recommendations. I said okay and began to call the concierge. I made about 5 phone calls within a span of 15 minutes but no one picked up. Finally I left a voice mail saying that I needed a recommendation. We left for dinner anyway and came back around 11pm. There was no message on my phone which said that no one from the concierge's desk had bothered to call us back. Poor Service.
The next day I called the front desk again and told them about the concierge not being available and the lady very matter-of-factly said "Yes the concierge was busy and then he left at 7pm." I thought concierge's stay till late if not 24 hours! This was another surprise.

    Good Things:

Front Desk: The representatives at the front desk as well as the bell hops were very polite and helpful.

View: Our view from the room was Amazing. We loved it and enjoyed every bit of it.

Hotel: The hotel was beautiful from inside. It had a beautiful high ceiling and lovely bars with fresh flower arrangements all the time. We used their conference room for one of our work meetings and it was really nice too.

Location: Grand Hyatt is just a few blocks from the White House, Capitol and all the museums. We could just walk to those places.

Overall: 1 Star because of the additional hidden charges. I did not think Hyatt would be so cheap with their charges and was expecting better service from the concierge. While their location and view was great, we could get the same view and location at the Renaissance or Hilton next door. I would probably not stay at this hotel again just because of the inconvenience factor.

Great location, right by Metro stop, and easy walk to the mall and many attractions.  The hotel is huge, like a vegas hotel.
The room is very nice, with arm chairs, updated furniture, large flat screen tv.  We also tried the hotel buffet breakfast and it was very good.
You do have to be prepared to spend $300+ on the guest rooms, and everything else is on top of it, e.g. wifi, valet, water.
Also, being such a big hotel, there are weddings and conferences going on all the time.  But that's DC for you.

    Decor: 5
Look at the pictures on the website. The place looks exactly like the pictures or even better! The place is very nice for its price. I love the atmosphere and the reception lounge. Nice pool too. Very comfortable.

    Room: 4
I have very high standards for hotel rooms. The room is clean and comfortable. The bed sheets and bed is comfortable (use really nice quality blankets). No free wifi, but bathroom is clean. Decent room.

    Price: 5
Cheapest hotel I found during Summer time. I was surprised with the deal I found at the Hyatt. The price of the room was so cheap and it included a complementary breakfast, which was very nice. The breakfast has a vast variety of food (not your typical bagels and bread) and it was delicious.

    Service: 4
Average service. They gave us a care package at night with candies and cookies.

    Overall: 5
I love this place. The hotel is huge and the it is very convenient. It is located in Downtown DC and the metro is right below the hotel. Very good price for the quality. I would definitely come back again.

We stayed here overnight for our Corporate Year End Winter Secular Holiday Party thing, which was also held at the hotel.

First, the hotel review:  Amazing lobby.  The rooms are standard-upscale; nothing special but comfortable and well furnished.  The beds are firm.  We had a 'city view' room, which translates to 'side of building across the street view'.  Don't expect sweeping vistas of the Mall or anything.  Service was unremarkable; neither good or bad.

Second, the event review:  We did a cocktail hour followed by a served dinner.  Their hors d'oeuvers were fine, the bar staff was above par, and the dinners were *excellent*.  The filet mignon was five-star-restaurant quality (no, really!) and they got the food out promptly so it was still hot.

Third, the Hotel Breakfast Buffet review.  Bleah.  We ate there because it was frigging cold and windy outside.  We would have done better driving out of the city and finding a Bob Evans or something.  The food was, frankly, Golden Corral Feedin' Trough level, only it cost $20 a head.

Given our non-breakfast experience, this is a good place to hold corporate events, and the block room rate was $109/night which is a steal downtown.

Fair warning though - parking *sucks* in this area.  There's a giant outdoor lot across the street, but when it's twenty degrees, windy, and rainy/sleety, that's no fun at all.  The attached garage fills up fast.  Valet is somewhere in the $40 range.

I was kind of conflicted about giving this a so-so review since I'm unsure who to blame for the experience.. but..

My friend booked 2 double rooms for the 5 of us. We expected to get 2 rooms with 2 beds and a cot in one of the rooms. Another friend came down and booked separately. He called and asked what type of room we requested so we could be near him. We said (again) 2 beds.  We walk in and one room was a suite (with only a pull out couch) and another was a room with ONE bed. For 5 of us this was unacceptable. They told the person who booked it that this was all that was left at 4pm. The compromise was 2 cots in the suite and the pull out couch for the 3 guys and the 2 girls shared the bed in the other room.  Honestly..if I had booked it I would have told them this was not what I paid for and threatened to leave but we were tired after a 7 hour trip and had a game to go to that night.

I'm unsure if our rooms got messed up because of that friend or whatever but either way, I wasn't happy. A plus was that we were allowed to check out at 2pm.

This hotel was great.  The lobby is amazing (there is a beautiful atrium), the rooms were very clean, and there's even a Starbucks in the lobby so you can get your caffeine fix in the am ASAP.  You don't even have to go outside to get onto the Metro (the hotel is located at the Metro Center stop).

I booked a room a few weeks in advance for a Saturday night in July and only paid $100.  For downtown DC (and a nice hotel) that was quite the steal.

The only complaints I have is the walls seem a little thin (we were in what seemed to be an adjoining room) and the people next to us talked really loudly), and the fact that they charged us for a rollaway bed.  You can request on on their website and nowhere on it does it say there's an additional charge.

However, when we spoke up, they did refund us the $20 so it was fine, but they really should make that clear on the website or let you know when you check in.

Regardless, I would DEFINITELY stay in this hotel again, especially for the price they charge.  Next time I'll just stay by myself and not need a rollaway bed :)

Great location, has an entrance right in Metro Center which is convenient for those coming in via public transportation.

At $99/night this was a great deal. Skip the Grand Cafe breakfast (even at 50% off it was still $10 a person and under whelming).

I had to cancel my first night due to a flight cancellation due to weather - but I ended up being able to weasel my way onto a later flight when the weather cleared briefly - so I had to rebook my first night. The person at the desk told me I did not have to change rooms after the first night nor do a check out and re check in for formalities sake. However, after the first night my keys didn't work and instead of apologizing they told me and my fiance that we probably put the cards next to our cell phones and it erased the memory on it. Uh huh.

Outdated atrium style hotel but it doesn't look run down at all.

I stayed here for a conference. The hotel itself is really nice and very spacious - as you can see in the pictures, there's a small pond in the lobby. Take the escalators downstairs and there are several large meeting spaces, where I spent a lot of time. Fairly average conference rooms, nothing special besides their size.

There's a cafe, deli, and gift shop in the lobby, and access to the metro straight from the lobby (this is great in bad weather/after dark - you don't even have to go outside!). The room I stayed in (2 double beds) felt a bit small and cramped, but the beds were comfy and the bathroom was a little more spacious. Also, they make you pay for internet access but you can check in for flights and print out boarding passes for free in the lobby.

Overall, nice place to stay, but only if you get a good deal or your company is footing the bill!

Good Hotel in a Great Location......

I have stayed at many Hyatt properties over the years and overall I have been pretty satisfied with my stays for business and personal. This location is in the middle of DC and accessible to many landmarks, restaurants and venues. Another bonus is the train from here to the airport for $2.00 you cannot beat it! I was impressed with how clean everything was especially with all the visitors.

The check in process started off great. The service was enthusiastic and pleasant. I was asked if being on the 11th floor was fine but I have preferences for lower floors. It was changed no questions asked. Score one for great customer service.

My room was being serviced when I was checking in. They were doing a bit of touching up. Outstanding to see a property being properly maintained. The room was clean and the beds were great. I had a great night of sleep when I made the time!

My only grip is that the meetings rooms in the catacombs of this place received no phone service of any kind. Also strange I was literally shocked when I touched the metal of the escalators. No fooling!

The check out process was fast and you can even check in your bags and print your boarding pass. I would definitely stay here next time while on business or personal in DC!

    it's just a 3 star hotel.

They don't go above and beyond with service.  They make you pay for gym and internet access ($10), but the swimming pool is free (and connected to the gym anyway, so you technically can sneak in a swim + work out if you want).

They also had so-so rooms--the best part being the linens (bed and towels were soft/comfortable), otherwise my room smelled of cigarettes when I first entered and thankfully it dissipated after the first night.

Their gift shop is open from 7am - 11pm, they have an ATM in the lobby, and a kiosk to check-in to your flights.  I did like it because it was bustling with people at all hours of the day.  They have something like 800+ suites, so you are pretty much a room number (which, depending on what kind of service you expect, can be a good or bad thing).

The food here is just "meh".  I did the continental breakfast buffet for $19.99 and the quality was not good, the selection was not good, and the overall experience was just so-so.  I found myself trying to finish things, just because I had payed $20 for it.  Save your money!

Taxi from IAD is around $55 - 60, Taxi from DCA is probably more like $20.

If you are staying in DC and need moderately ($189/night in Oct. through priceline) priced lodging in a prime location (1 block from my office and 1 block from my convention, sits right on top of the City Center metro stop), then book!!  If you are looking for a good hotel experience, this will just meet some basic standards, but won't go over the top.

I stayed at the Grand Hyatt last week for three nights after booking on Priceline for $80/night. It is in a very convenient location...it is located mere blocks from both the Metro Center and Gallery Place/Chinatown metro stops and for those feeling ambitious, it is located about a fifteen-twenty minute walk from most of the DC museums. It's located not too far from New York Avenue, so there is also quick access to the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, and Route 50.

The lobby when you walk in is incredibly large and very well done. Check-in was quick and there are plenty of elevators to take you up to your room. The rooms are fine...I think I lucked out with a corner room because it seemed slightly more spacious. The bathroom is a little tight which is the only thing about the room I didn't like. Checkout was very easy as I did the Express checkout on the TV in my room. I valet parked my rental car at the hotel and it cost me anywhere from $26-30 per day. Right before I checked out, I called down to have the car pulled around and when I stepped outside, it was waiting for me. All the staff I encountered at the hotel (valets, doorman, front desk staff, etc) were helpful and pleasant.

The huge downside of the hotel to me was that the bars and lounges in the hotel close early. The lounge in the lobby closes at 11 pm and the sports bar closes at midnight. So if you are looking for food and/or drinks late at night, you have to leave the hotel which isn't super ideal if you are a 20-something year old woman traveling by herself. The staff at the sports bar was very nice and I did meet some interesting people down there while watching the Olympics. I visited the lounge before meeting friends for dinner and the bartender was very nice and even gave me a free glass of wine. Drink prices were very typical for DC ($5-6 for a beer). The only thing I didn't like about the lounge was there were no TVs! I mean there were TVs but they were playing a slideshow of scenic pictures...when you are by yourself, you need something like a TV to keep you entertained at a bar or lounge.

Overall, I would stay at this hotel again on a future trip.
