Since this is in Adams Morgan and i am usually drunk when im here this may not be a fair rating but with that being said. When I do come here I always have a good time dancing and drinking. It's three floors but it can still get crowded pretty easy. The music is a mixture of top 40 hits, and the crowd is ur usual adam morgan party goers.

I did have a sober experience here for a Yelp event and I was able to try the food and it was pretty good. It was the usual bar food, and it  pleasantly surprised me on how good it was.

I love dancing so I naturally gravitated to Grand Central a few years ago when Nolan's closed down.  Now, Grand Central can be fun sometimes bit I'm giving it only 2 stars based on my last experience, which was last Friday. Here are my gripes:

    (1) The DJ explicitly told me that management ordered him not to play hip hop music.
    (2) If you open a tab, they automatically charge you gratuity.
    (3) There's only so much Lady Gaga and Ke$ha I can take.
    (4) The place can get a bit hot when it's crowded.
I've had fun at Grand Central over the years but after my last experience, I need to find a new place to dance and have fun.

    Oh dear.

On the one hand, it's my fault for going on Kickball Night. On the other hand, this is the kind of place that has Kickball Night. So I feel it's totally relevant to the review to note that.

I came. I saw tee shirts. I had a pitcher of DC Brau in a Bud Light pitcher with plastic cups. The experience cost me $30 before tip.

I was also treated like a small child by the bartenders.

This. This is the reason I despise Adams Morgan.

    Listed in: Nope!

I've been to grand central about five times. Four times to party, once to dine (chicken sandwich was tasty btw). Each experience has been wonderful! Grand Central gets pretty crowded on a Friday night. When we got there around 11:30pm, it wasn't crowded but boy did the crowd come in at midnight! The selection of music is good- top 40 hits. The DJ even took my request :D. The crowd is usually very fun, just looking to have a good time dancing to the music! AND THERE IS NO COVER! I generally refuse to pay to party, soooo this place is always a "safe place" lol.

I've been here twice so far and i do like this place. There is no cover to get in, which is great and I wish all the other places would stop charging cover when they are having a 21+ event. The last time I went was a Saturday night and I must say that the music was lacking...they hardly played any good tunes and when they did play a semi-danceable song, they would follow it up with some weird tune that would ruin my mood for dancing. A lot of people were dancing though and we still had a good time here. A good mixture of people and most of them were dressed nice so that was a plus. I think I will go back in the future.

Stopped in for a drink after hearing what seemed like to be good music coming from inside. Crowd was probably early-mid 20's and wasn't as bad as I thought it was goign to be. $10 patron shots which wasn't bad. Music was okay & it looked like they had a few rooms. I wouldn't... and didn't spend my entire night here, but it was worth stopping by.

"Two snaps, a twist, and a kiss" for Grand Central -- a little place I like to call your own little slice of Union Station right in the heart of AdMo. Even having experienced this place in various states of sobriety -- including stone-cold sober and so drunk that I could barely see past my nose -- I somehow never managed to notice that Grand Central is supposed to resemble a train station inside. (Call it a "Black Blonde Moment...") D'oh!

So let's go over a few things I did notice: 1.) Icky sticky floors (They were hell on my good wedges...) 2.) Speedy Bartenders/Multiple Bars 3.) At least three dance floors...4.) No Cover Charge to Enter! 5.) Well-ventilated...and 6.) Finally, folks doing something that only the bravest of partying Washingtonians have the heart to: Dancing!

Somewhere between 2004 and 2007, the DC club scene became a moshpit of establishments catering to the needs of House/Electronic Music aficionados. Call me snooty, but last I checked that was Baltimore's job. So imagine my drunken glee when I was able to go three whole hours without hearing a single techno remix of Beyonce's "Single Ladies." You will, however, hear a good balance of Top 40 hits from the past 10 years and '80s pop sprinkled with a dash of hip-hop. A mix like that gets two thumbs up from a girl whose iPod is filled with everything from Bananarama to Kenny G and Jay-Z. And Grand Central just isn't Grand Central if you don't hear Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" at least twice during the night.

Ummm...what else? Oh! Did I mention the strong drinks? I'm not a peachy kinda gal (I'm sure you've noticed...), but this might be the best "Sex on the Beach" in the city. With rail drinks and beers priced at roughly five bucks a pop, if nothing else, Grand Central's a good place for a pregame.

FYI for the ladies: The bathrooms weren't "Sit Your Purse Down on the Floor" clean, but they weren't "Eww...It Looks Like a Biohazard in Here!" flithy either. Plan accordingly.

What a refreshing change of pace for those of us who've had it up to our overplucked eyebrows with the "Nails Done, Hair Done, Everything Did" crowd that typically frequents DuPont Circle and the K. Street Corridor.  None of that gussied-up preteniousness ovah here. Wear your favorite Freakum Dress. Wear a romper. Heck, wear shorts and a tank top. Either way, you're bound to have a good time.

Final Verdict: Grand Central's worth a visit on a lazy Friday/Saturday night. Just be sure to bring your dancing shoes.

I had a pretty good time here. There is a lot of space and there are several bars. There is a lot of dance floor space.

The bartenders were friendly and always willing to refill your drink before you even could ask. The shooters are fantastic and they taste like pixie stix. Drinks are reasonably priced during non-happy hour times. Wide selection of beer.

I would definitely come here again.

OK spot here in AM.  Not sure it evokes a 'grand central' feel but it does have a lot of open space.  I am not sure if it is part dance club, part sports bar, part regular bar.  It is a lot of things and I think that is all I feel I can write so I can move on to a better review of another place.  Though I must say the picture with the thong from the bathroom stall is well classy, really classy!  And for that, a third star.

Cheap beer can never steer you wrong. Wait.. actually it can.. but it *does* always easily steer you into the facility that is offering it. And this is where Grand Central fits into my book.

Their happy hour runs nice and late (I want to say 8?) and they have great deals. All of their draft beers are cheap, same thing with rail and wine. It's nice to see a place that has more than a few beers on draft offer them all up at happy hour, far too many places will only let you skate away with their cheap domestic offerings.

This about sums up my experience with Grand Central, as its always a start of the evening kind of place, but I really need to go back for a longer stay. I really want to try out their tap tables, as well as some of their games downstairs.

One thing that they really need to get on top of though, are the acoustics. They seriously are bad. You can hear everyone at the bar due to the rounded ceilings, and its always loud and owww.

Their food has always looked decent for bar food, but can't say I have ever indulged.

I have gone several times and it has always been a pretty good time.  We recently visited for dinner and the meal was better than I would have expected!  It was great because we were able to get a table close to the front and people watch while we ate.

If you come on a weekend night prepare to be hot and it will be super crowded.   We also had a wait to get drinks and they seemed fairly decently priced for this area.  I like that is has 3 floors and 2 bars so there should be plenty of space, but like I said before-it does get crowded.  However, it only has one bathroom and if your a woman you know how crowded it can become on a busy night.  I like the music the DJ was playing because it was mix of today's top hits(hip-hop, rap, some classic throw-backs) and he kept the mood very upbeat.

    Nice little chill spot.

I wasn't ready to leave Adams Morgan yet, so we came here for more cocktails and such after leaving The Diner. Didn't even bother looking at the food menu. went straight for the gusto.

I had two Michael Phelps (some secret recipe with jeremiah weed sweet tea vodka on ice).

Yeah. I was NICE and tipsy that evening. My word.

Dancefloor is the size of my bathroom, so I probably wouldn't even bother.

There's outside seating for those of you who don't mind people and their pets coming up to you for affection. (I'll stay inside, thanks.)

I'd go back for some more drinks and to snap some shots in the photo booth.

I've only ever gone here for late nights on the weekends. This place can get pretty packed, which for me is a negative. They try to straddle the rift between bar and club, and I suppose they do a pretty good job. The bars are well stocked, though not always accessible through the crowds. There are several, so if the main one is packed, it's worth a look upstairs. There are dance floors on every level, and people make use of it, to be sure. They do have a minor dress code: At one point they made my friend check his hoodie at coat check.  Not a big deal, but something to note.

Probably the most stand out aspect of Grand Central is the photo booth. I have had a few rough mornings where I checked my jacket pocket only to find a photo strip from Grand Central of me and a friend with the heading of "I freakin' 'heart' you." I still don't know how I feel about that.

All told, there is nothing remarkable about this bar. Yet somehow, I always manage to have a good time when I go.

While bar hopping in Washington DC, we strolled down Adams Morgan and made Grand Central our second stop for not only one drink, but two to three because this place was somewhat more happening than the last bar we went to. We just had to stay a little longer. Young college crowd, quite spacious, and they had a table downstairs for beer pong. :)

After a couple of Grey Goose shots, we left and came back about half an hour later for more. The bouncer outside seems like he was about to fall asleep, or perhaps he was just HIGH off of something.

Let's be honest. If you're in AdMo at 1am on a weekend night, you are probably looking for the things that Grand Central does pretty well. Reasonably priced well drinks? Check, $5. Top 40s sprinkled with some Journey? Check. Boozed up college kids? Check. Crazy Europeans from the nearby hostels? Check. A fun dance party with a crowded dance floor? Check and check.

There are definitely better places to go for the bar atmosphere (the roof deck at Reef and Bourbon come to mind), but you won't find a better place to dance the night away while singing along with the lyrics.

While in DC, the group of people I was with decided to hit up their local nightlife spot, Grand Central.  Upon walking in, it was a typical bar/club scene and was SUPER crowded.  We lost each other in the crowd so I stopped and waited for my friends.  As I was waiting, a girl was walking around with shots in tubes and offered me one.  I didn't want one, but I thought it was decent that they walked around with them for those that wanted them.

We made our way upstairs and retreated to the far side near the window.  There was a huge TV with the news on which was a bit distracting as the area we were in was a dancing area, not a bar area.  The music was good for about 15 minutes until, like every other bar, it turned to techno.  We took that as a sign that we should go elsewhere and left.

One thing I found odd was that as we were dancing, a man came up and tried to sell us flashing lights and flowers and such.  He wasn't even a club vendor - he was a street vendor.  I noticed this was a recurring thing in Adams Morgan as it happened again in Madam's Organ!  So strange.

This review is coming from a lady who lives and parties in NYC and coming here on vacation and going out. To be honest I'm really shocked!  It's such a small party place but filled with so many people!  It was fun to socialize and they played mainly top 40 but it's always fun to sing and dance along.  I still am shocked that there were so many people out partying till late at night.  To me it seemed like a huge college scene with drinking and partying but the one negative is that it seemed like a sausage fest if you catch my drift.

Drinks were reasonable, bathrooms were ok, but I find myself visiting again and going back.  Plus I like their ceilings and then I took the metro lol.

This was the place my team "That's What She Said"  and I played our bocce ball game. (lovely team name, I know, it came in handy during the game.)

Yes, yes, I know the place was a bit cramped to throw any ball and we probably made huge dents on the floor (that's what she said). The food was decent but we had specials so I didn't mind shoving out a $5 to be satisfied (that's what she said).

But with the season now over, I wont go here without a beer in one hand and a bocce ball in another. It just wont be the same and the place is not special enough to go while at Adams Morgan.

However, I did enjoy playing (that's what she--yeah, I probably could have come up with a better one, but seriously it was the entire season of this and it was a bit exhausting)

It's a place like GC and a review like this that make me question my sanity. You'd think with all of the awful experiences I have had here, I would hate this place, but for some reason I keep going back... by choice!

So the bartenders are assholes, plain & simple. I have been yelled at here before, and I am not that awful of a person... I swear! But apparently if you try to order a drink here and you challenge the bartender's action to help the girl with no bra who walks up to the bar and immediately gets served, you're going to get yelled at. I suggest you double-fist like I do (not a sexual term) and order 2 beers instead of 1.  Btw - if you go upstairs, that bar is smaller, but you tend to get served quicker.

So the dance floors are grimy and dangerous. There are spilled drinks and beer bottles everywhere. I have literally cut my foot from kicking a broken beer bottle as I was trying to get my groove on. I still have the scar on my big toe where blood gushed - btw, thank you to you 3 random drunk girls in the bathroom who actually helped me with my bloody toe by ensuring I had sufficient amounts of paper towel. Anyway, your shoes will undoubtedly get sticky from all the spilled beverages, so I highly suggest you don't wear your fancy shoes to this place.

So the majority of the patrons here are grimy. I have been acosted too many times to count.. anywhere else I'd file a police report and probably have my likeness featured on an episode of Law & Order SVU, but this is just how GC is... so like it or leave it. You will get bumped and grinded on, fondled, and maybe even impregnanted, so if this scares the shit out of you, avoid the downstairs dance floor at all costs. It is too dark to tell who the culprit is anyway.

After all that, though, liking GC to me is like having a crush on the popular guy who - even after he treats you like shit - you still kinda wanna get with him. Here's why: most of the bars in AM are all the same: bars filled with frat boys or girls who are so overly dressed, you'd think it was prom. Every other bar will undoubtedly start the night with Beyonce's Single Ladies.. and end with Journey or Bon Jovi as last call is announced. Some of the other bars further down 18th street try to be classy and charge you a cover --- seriously?!

All in all... GC is just what people say it is. If you like to dance and you do not mind being humped from the front and back simultaneously, you will have a fine time. Go upstairs where it is less crowded and you will have a better time.. and if you don't, these words are not intended to be a verbal contract and, thus, are not legally binding.

PISS POOR. Bar service at the first bar inside the door was absolutely pathetic. The female bartender was hot but only serves the end of the bar, and the old guy hates his job and throws drinks down, just has an all around shitty attitude.

Definitely will not be getting anymore of my business. My tip on my tab reflected what I think of this establishment's bartending hires. Complete and utter garbage.

One of the first times I went was around finals week.  It was a Wednesday night and the place was packed to the brim.  They basically turned it into a dance club, which was kind of cool. It pretty much turned dead in the summer, and hasn't picked up much since.  A big hangout for kickballers it seems.  Drinks somewhat overpriced, but no complaints here - wouldn't be going out if I couldn't afford it.  Maybe it is more lively on weekends.  Not a bad place to chill out, and if you're lucky, you may end up here on a more lively night, which makes it awesome if it is.

Ooh, is it a train? Is it a bar? Is it a train-bar? Color me confused! It's new and different and exciting and omg there's a train on the wall!

And once you get over the initial novelty of being in D.C.'s alcoholic homage to the Metro, you realize it's just another bar. The on-tap beer selection is not impressive. Decent happy hour deals (which go until 9 p.m. on the weekdays; that actually makes it worth going to). There's a few small tables out front for warm summer days. The server I had was reasonably attentive and friendly.

I'd go back if other people were going, but I wouldn't make a special trip for it. As far as transportation themed-bars go, I'd rather spend my money at Fly Lounge.

A NYC girl finds herself free on a saturday night in DC. What does she do? She finds two NYC boys in the area and heads over to Adams Morgan for some fun.
Out of all the bars/lounges we stuck our noses in, this one was decent enough to hold our very short attention span. The bouncer told my friend he couldnt wear his sunglasses on top of his head... so me, being the chick with the purse, got to hold his glasses ::groan::
Not having been in DC nightlife before, i proceeded with caution, hence the two males with me. However, single ladies note: there is an abundance of sausage at this place if you know what i mean. My two guys, while totally awesome, were definitely keeping me out of the trouble i wanted to get into.
The place was PACKED. I definitely think i was grinded on several times (can you blame them?) and the music was decent.
We spent a large chunk of time trying to find the staircase that went to the 2nd floor.
For those that want to be awesome on the 2nd floor, pretend you are on your way to the bathroom and make a LEFT into the dark stairway. Boom. 2nd floor! There is a bar up there too- its tiny but its nice if you land yourself a corner spot at the bar. The bartender made a strong Jack and Coke.
My NYC boys partied so hard they fell asleep standing up leaving me to dance with the bannister near the bar. Good thing DC bars close at 2am. As we were leaving, there were random couples making out in corners - guessing they were probably meeting for the first time. And some of the guys there had a thing for dry humping- aka dancing.  Looked more like dry humping though, Hope no one got knocked up.
Despite having left early, i could see myself coming here again to hang out.

I went there for Sunday brunch because of reasonably priced drinks - $4 mimosas, bloody mary's and irish coffees.  We ended up not ordering food because the bartenders never took our order!  My friends and I sat for 45 minutes with our drinks before finally asking for one more round of drinks and the check.  It wasn't until we had the check at our table that the bar tender finally asked if we wanted to order food.

We got breakfast sandwhiches at the Adams Morgan Coffee Shop instead. Their loss - I love the food at the Coffee Shop!

On my first visit I had a few beers and the staff was very friendly
periodically checking in with me.  My only real complaint on this visit was the HD feed wasn't working so I had to watch the game in SD.  If fairness to Grand Central, they were apologetic about it and even had a tech out there to look at it towards the end of the game.

On my second visit I went for dinner using a http://Restaurant.com coupon ($25 off $35 or more).  The certificate was only valid for food, but with all draft beers $3 till 9:00p on Saturday drinks were still cheap.  That said I was only there with one friend and we struggled to spend $35 on food.  Out server was very friendly and reviewed the ins and outs of the http://Restaurant.com deal before we ordered.  We had the hummus and nacho appetizers.  Both were solid options and meet my expectations, sure I have had better, but would definitely order both again.

For our entrées I asked our server's opinion of the crap cake sandwich which she said was only 'alright.' So I opted for the Mediterranean chicken wrap.  I asked to substitute the fries for a salad.  I wasn't expecting much on the salad part as I am usually disappointed with the side salads many places offer instead of fries.  I was pleasantly surprised to get what could have been an entrée salad complete with chunks of feta and other goodies.  Best of all, there was no surcharge for the salad.

After eating the salad and appetizers, I was so full I couldn't eat the wrap.  However it made for a great lunch the next day.

I came here a couple of Saturdays ago with a friend who was in from out-of-town.  It was my first time visiting, but the long line and no cover charge intrigued all of us.  "Well, if it's as good as these ladies think it is..." my buddy said.  To be honest, it was.  Most people go to Adams Morgan to get sloppily drunk and hook up with some random person at a bar.  That's what Adams Morgan is.  People who come during a Saturday night don't care about ambiance or decor, it's about the ladies, the fellas, and the music.

It was so crowded that I didn't even notice the homage to the Metro or any of the other train-related paraphernalia that other posts have mentioned.  The music was good, the ladies looked fine, and even the guys brought the class.  It's not an after-dinner party in the lobby of the Four Seasons, but if you're in AdMo and looking for "whatever," Grand Central should be your destination.

Mosh pit is kind of fun - if you've had a few - but beware of freaky old men!

I was here last night for a party that my husband's kickball division was holding. I'll admit I don't make it out to Adams Morgan nearly as often as I used to. I've been to more than my fair share of kickball parties and this was definitely one of the better venues in that it was pretty easy to get drinks and they weren't poured lightly.

The decor here isn't particularly impressive and the crowd was typical Adams Morgan crowd. The bathroom was clean when I went in after midnight though which was surprising. Funny story, in the upstairs room the TVs were showing the first and the second Indiana Jones movie. My friend tried to use it as a conversation starter with some ladies but unfortunately he failed. It was amusing regardless.

All in all I had a good night but I don't think I would choose to go here if it wasn't for some kind of sponsored event.

The security guys are rude, the bartender was a jackass about it when he screwed up our order and the music really isn't my bag, baby, and, you know, I should really just stop going out in Adams Morgan altogether because never, ever, ever have fun (exceptions made for: Toledo, Pharmacy, Blaguard).

Drinks are not cheap and the rail vodka tasted like it was brewed out back in a large copper pot by a one-eyed hillbilly under a full moon, and then put into a plastic jug covered with cyrillic gibberish.

BUT the male patrons here don't hassle you. They just line up along the walls and stare, much like prepubescents at a middle school dance. Extra star!

I'm not a good dancer (not by Los Angeles standards).  When the girls and I went out dancing, I was the lame one, the girl with no moves.  But whatever.  I like dancing.  I like drinking.  I love dancing + drinking.  I don't care if look like a fool.  Anyhow, through out the years in Los Angeles, I picked up some solid moves or at least gained confidence.  These days I dance at home with my twins while watching hip hop videos (amazing indoor cardio by the way).

The girls and I went upstairs to dance.  Downstairs was way crowded.  The upstairs was not a sweat factory, thankfully.  Plenty of room for us to get our groove on.  The music was kick ass -- very easy to dance to (great mix of hip hop and pop).  We danced our hearts out and sang.  I'll admit it, we got a little hyphy.

There were a lot more guys to girls (weird).   I suppose it explains why the dancing around us was a bit atrocious.  The crowd was actually diverse (+1)!!!  Look, I barely criticize other people's moves, but if I am better than you when it comes to dancing, there is something seriously wrong.  The men were lecherous.  We had to dance in a very small tight circle to avoid the crazies.

Good times.  Great place to dance with the girls.

This place is a horror show. It is the definition of a Adams Morgan meat market. On the weekends it is college students and interns who have had too much to drink and not wearing enough clothing. The drinks are over priced and the service is terrible.

    Avoid at all costs.
