I head to Grand Central every few months to dance, and I always leave feeling energized and entertained. The downstairs dance floor is consistently packed to the gills.
Thursday is ladies night, but the rest of the week, Grand Central is a place for the fellas. My favorite experience at a gay club is the men who are paid to entertain the crowd. A handsome man dancing with a rhinestone encrusted umbrella to the Rihanna song on the stage really did make my night on my last excursion.
The Cher-esque (do you believe in life after love?) music gets old pretty fast, but the newly added Sapphos, located upstairs, offers more contemporary hip hop. Sapphos draws a mixed crowd, but it really caters to the ladies. All around, the experience is fun in that it isn't the typical, run of the mill bar scene. I see it as a cultural education of sorts.
The best part is as a straight woman, I can dress however I'd like and know that my cleavage isn't going to draw unwanted attention, or the other extreme, I won't risk meeting the man of my dreams wearing no makeup and Nikes.
*The cover charge varies, the most I've paid is $6.
