6 reviews for Graham's At Squaw Valley
THE BEST!
From the friendly "make me feel at home" service to the exquisite gourmet meals (I really thought I'm in San Francisco at a shishy restaurant)!
It's a new favorite for us :)
I liked this place. The food seemed to be a pretty good value for the price. However two things bothered me. The Crab Salad($15.00) seemed to not contain Crab from th LEGS but rather from the body of the crab. If you have ever eaten or cooked a crab then you know that this meat is much tougher and rather unpleasant to eat. The salad with the papaya was great. I would order it without the crab.
The waiter took our wine a put it in a bucket across the dining room so we had to flag down the waiter to get our glasses filled. This was puzzling as the dining room was half full on a Saturday night. If you are not going to watch it, then leave the bottle near the table so I can pour my wife a glass of wine.
The Berry Desert in Parchment was not worth the $9.00 and did not contain any Berries. we did get comped on this.
They have some small dinners for $16 that are very good values but they make up for the price reductions with $9.00 deserts and high priced appetizer. There were some reasonable priced wines on the wine list.
Go to Pianetta in Truckee for a more enjoyable meal with less problems.
I don't know what is with the other low scores, but I think Graham's is the best restaurant in Squaw, in terms of both food, service, and ambiance. The food is pricey, but it is all worth while when Graham, the owner, comes by to chat it up at your table. And the wine list is great.
Plus, it is in the first house built in the valley. Nothing beats dining in front of a real fireplace.
It is busy for a reason, and it is good bet to make a reservation, especially on the weekend.
Let me start off saying one of the BEST martini's. Only second to Peppoli at Spanish Bay, Pebble Beach, CA
We started of with the special appetizer of crab cakes, which were very good. They were actually all crab and no to very little fillers.
I had the ceaser salad (which was the real deal) and my bf had the cream of mushroom soup. For dinner I had the venison chop - awesome! My bf had the panko crusted halibut, which was very good
They have a wonderful wine list and we shared a bottle of the Robert Baile.
The Bread Pudding dessert was good, but not as fine as the rest of items we had.
Check it out, its quite good.
I have eaten at Graham's multiple times during our yearly Squaw ski trip. I don't know exactly to explain how I feel about Graham's. I always like it, but I always feel dissappointed. I think that made their menu makes things sound more intersesting than they really are.
But, in terms of the good, they have meat of the highest quality, no matter how lacking the side dishes are. But is it too expensive for just meat? Probably.
The saving grace of Graham's might be the fact that their staff is AMAZING. Our waitstaff has always been absolutely top-notch.
Best kept secret in the Truckee/West/North Lake Tahoe Area. Went to Graham's with a party of four. Keep in mind the menu changes regularly so the dishes I will describe might not be on the menu when you go.
We started off with the Fondue Appetizer: Gruyere cheese with a hint of White Wine and Garlic. It came with Apple and Whole Wheat Bread pieces. The combination of both gave a hint of warm apple pie. We had a bottle of the Kendal Jackson 2003 Meritage That would go well with the rest of the meal.
We split two of the house green salads: Spring mixed lettuce with Blood Oranges, Dried Fruit, crisp Cucumbers, Caramelized Walnuts, and Feta Cheese, all in a Blood Orange Vinaigrette, topped with Dried Leeks.
The Entree's we had were mostly of the beef category but there was something for every taste on the menu. The First Eaters Entree was the Filet of Beef topped with a mushroom demi-glaze (Medium Rare). Eater said it was the best she had ever eaten. It came with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. The Second Eater had the New York Steak topped with a heaping amount of Gorgonzola Cheese (Medium Rare). It came with tiny Yukon Gold Potatoes and the mixed Veggies. Eater enjoyed and said he would order it again any day. Eater # three had the Crab and Lobster Empanadas, No filler in these suckers, just pure meat. It was placed on bed of Micro Greens with Avocados and a Cream Sauce. A different take on the Empanada that was well received. The last Eater (myself) had the Buffalo Ribeye with cracked Pepper(Medium Rare). An Excellent cut of meat you could have cut with a butter knife. Very flavour full and juicy, place on tiny Yukon Gold Potatoes and the mixed Veggies.
After this delicious and filling meal we decided to top it off with a shared slice of Mud Pie. As with the rest of the meal Graham's did not disappoint. A Mound of Ice Cream on a half inch think Chocolate crust, topped with mixed Berries, Whipped Cream and fresh Mint Leaves.
The ambiance is Tahoe Chalet , not the fanciest of interiors but what you would expect of an old Tahoe establishment , 60's Skier Chic. It can seem a bit pricey but if you compare the quality to a Morton's or Ruth's Chris these two do not even compare and you don't get the gorgeous Mountain View.
A definite don't miss when in the area.
