My own audio version of a porno, a thick smoke smell, dirty bathtub, and thin walls and ceilings were only some of the things I wouldn't have minded skipping out on in this hotel.

The pros of the hotel is it's cheap, cheap, cheap (and no, I'm not trying to chirp like a bird here).  Well, I should say that the hotel was cheap in relation to other hotels in the area.

As to a previous review, there are cups, they're just hidden in the closet for some reason.  There is, however, no coffee pot  or continental breakfast so be prepared to go out to buy coffee or tea.

The location is pretty cool as it sits close to the House of Blues and a couple streets from Santa Monica Blvd where we happened to go out on.

All in all, I'd stay there again, but will make sure to get an upstairs non-smoking room.  For the price, this is a good place to stay for a night, but definitely not any longer.

I checked in...and immediately checked out. I was due to stay 3 nights for a combination work/pleasure trip and upon my arrival, I quickly recognized that this place wasn't for me. Because I was going to have to do some work to prep for meetings during my stay, I realized I had to get out fast. It was SO loud! The walls were beyond thin and I could hear doors slamming, loud music, a couple arguing in the room next to me, and the air conditioner in my room was so loud that it sounded like I was staying on the runway at LAX.

The room was TINY and tacky - it looked like a Days Inn style room that they tried to pass off as "hip" with some new wallpaper and bedspread. The bathroom was so small and old looking.

From what I saw that night and later heard from friends, locals often use this hotel since it's a cheap option, but close to a lot of the hot bars and clubs, so they'll rent out rooms and pre-game here. That's exactly what I saw going on - tons of people lingering in the halls, loud music, screaming, etc.

I went downstairs to the front desk and expressed my disappointment with the hotel and how it was so loud that I would not be able to get any work done. They let me off the hook and refunded my prepaid stay from Expedia. I then hightailed it over to the Hyatt Regency in Century City - a MUCH better hotel!

I stayed at the Grafton after a movie premiere and afterparty. The prices are reasonable, and the hotel was located convientanty next to the afterparty location at 1/2 the cost of the hotels in the area. My friend and I did early check in, and got stuck in a smoking room, which stunk, but becuase we were on a tight time schedule, it had to do.

There were lots of cute things in the hotel (rubber duck, huge towels, nice bedding and poster), but there were NO cups!!! I've never stayed at a hotel that didn't have cups! We had to open a $4 bottle of smart water just to have water!

The staff were fairly friendly, but not the best that I've seen...but, maybe that is because I am a hotel yuppy, and tend to stay in 4-5 star hotels...All and all, this hotel did for the night.

I like the provocative art all over this hotel. It's conveniently located across the street from the HOB and the Skybar so you can just walk everywhere. parking here is ridiculously expensive so park at another lot. This makes a good hotel to preparty at before walking all over sunset.

Heard some good things about this place online but was not that impressed. To start, the front desk customer service was almost non-existent during the stay, not friendly at check in and even worse when I later asked for restaurant recommendations. Second, I was in the smoking section of the hotel, which I don't mind as I've been known to light up a few of my own, but when you wake up at 3 am and have trouble breathing in your own room, somethings definitely wrong with the ventilation. Third, the 8 am wake up call to muffled trance music and more cigarette smoke on what was supposed to be our day to sleep in.

Not all was bad, I did like the decor, the room although small was nice, and the bed was comfortable... but all good vibes from this place were quickly extinguished when I left and was charged $28 for one day of parking at the hotel I paid for a room at!!! ...I know it's LA but find a way to work it into the room rate!  Ill pass on this place next time

Meh I don't really see what the big deal is with this place...my boyfriend had stayed here before, and so for his birthday I paid for a couple nights here..definitely not worth it, and his laptop was stolen when he accidentally left it in the business center (not THAT surprising, but still a little dissapointing that the staff or other patrons would take it...security cameras???!)
We came in the winter, so it was pretty cold and probably not the best impression (couldnt do the pool etc), but nothing else really sticks out in my mind as being especially good or bad about this hotel..

I've stayed at the Grafton several times on business trips down to LA and always quite enjoyed my stay. In fact, I probably had one of the best business trips ever thanks to the Grafton.

After doing recording sessions during morning, I was able to lie by the pool on a hot July day on those big comfy green towels and "work" via my Blackberry. It was rad. I totally felt like a smarmy LA hot shot.

The rooms aren't ginormous or anything, but they're comfy and I dig the modern, cabana-esque decor. One time the art in my room consisted of two GIGANTIC photos of some of the nicest cleavage I've ever seen... what? Helped me sleep knowing the boobs where there watching over me.

The location's tons of fun. Walking distance to many of the notorious LA Sunset hot spots. Celebrity sightings can and will happen. (I saw one of the Olsen twins at a bar down the street and she was plastered.) Nothing like walking over to the Saddle Ranch and laughing at the hot chicks on the mechanical bull.

The hotel bar (I can't remember the name) is pretty cool in and of itself. I had tons of fun emptying their bottle of black cherry vodka. Plus the bartender was an absolute doll. I didn't know skirts got that short.

The place is very clean, the staff has always been great to me. If you're looking for a pretty reasonable hotel on Sunset, I highly recommend it. Just make sure to ask for the Booby Picture room.

Pretty corny LA decor, which is to be expected since you're on Sunset, but still...the pictures behind the beds are really bad.

The employees here are super nice though and bent over backwards whenever I needed something. The guy at the front desk accidentally re-charged the whole bill rather than the $50 a night incidental, but otherwise I can't complain. Another guy gave me a ride to a bar after I inquired about getting a cab. Can't beat that.

I agree with the other "mehs" below.  This is pretty much the only reasonably priced hotel left on this drag of Sunset, unless you count the Best Western and I refuse to pay $199 a night at a Best Western.  The decor is cute and cheesy, the quikbook price was great, and the steakhouse was very good.  Beyond that, just meh.   The service was only OK and the rooms were tiny.  I am not a neatness freak but all of the drawers in my supposedly "remodeled" room were shockingly dirty and suspicious to the point that we just left all our stuff in the closets.

Also, try not to get put in the room that overlooks something next door that looks like a little shanty shack on legs (you will know what I mean when you see it) We were put there and every night we were there, loud drunk teenagers squatted in and underneath it and screamed all night. I'm not too picky about noise but this was pretty much like sleeping right next to a shantytown.

I will still give them 3 stars for location, good steak and the awesome free little cab that takes you anywhere within 2 miles for free (although really who goes to LA without a car?) but they really could be doing a lot more with this space.

I love this place. I've stayed here numerous times and they have never disappointed.  It's amazingly laid back considering it's amid the Hollywood club scene where people tend to not be so cool. We went here for my 30th birthday after the Roosevelt was being ridiculous-they wanted me to pay $600 for bottle service so my friends could hang out by the pool with me. The Grafton allowed to bring our own alcohol to the pool without attitude. And Boa. What a great place with awesome people. They gave me one of the Kobe corn dogs(which was delicious) and wrote "Happy Birthday" in mustard. My kind of place. And we were just having drinks at the bar. The lounge is great too, and the crown and cokes were huge. God bless them.

Overall, if you're looking for a place that's a fraction of the price of it's neighbors and staffed by super down-to-earth and helpful people, the Grafton is it.

Cute boutique hotel on Sunset.  Will definitely stay there again and will recommend it to my friends.  Spent a couple hours poolside, adding some color to my Midwest pale skin (what I lovingly refer to as my 'Minnesota tan') and enjoying some mojitos; the pool area is set up like a courtyard - and definitely added to the enjoyable experience at the hotel.

Older apartment complex that was renovated into a hotel. Melrose place-ish, with the rooms (ground level and upper level) surrounding the pool.  Older ammenities, not sure what design they were going for. It feels like they kind of threw a coat of paint on all of it and called it a day.
Nice, but not that nice. I had no issues with the noise as other reviews did and I stayed on a Saturday night.  But then again, I could have been the noisy one.
As stated on the preview reviews, the best part of the Grafton is the Boa Steakhouse.  Ask for the patio table  (with heatlamps and view of pool and city lights).

What a piece of shit hotel. The lobby and the pool look really cool on the website. Do not be fooled, the rooms are worse than Days Inn. I felt itchy and scratchy all night not to mention the bed covers were frightening. Wondering if they rent by the hour. Find another place. Creepy.

I spent a month living here last year so saw some of the good and the bad mentioned.  Over all it's a good value with the unique charm of a boutique hotel.  It's far from a Motel 6 or the Ritz Carlton either.

I had a room on the lower level that opened to the pool.  The walls are thin so you can hear a bit of the ramblings in the room next door at times.  On the weekends can be a bit noisy but the management does listen and attempt to quiet things, as I can directly attest to the night I ended up partying all night with the neighbors and they asked us to quiet down a couple times.

The bar was a bit too sheik for me, I very much prefer the dive bars in Hollywood.

Stayed at the Grafton for two nights for a Bachelorette party. It was perfect for that-- great location on Sunset, and inexpensive (compared to other hotels in the area).

The front desk managed to check us in and out somewhat successfully, but otherwise they were worthless. Not the least bit attentive; every time we had a question we stood at the desk for ages. They said they would make a dinner reservation for us (when we got to the restaurant, there was no rezzie). When we checked out, we left our bags w/the concierge while we had lunch. Came back, and our bags were still sitting, unattended, in the lobby :(

The pool scene looks nice in photos, but it's small and you have to get there early to get one of the 8 lounge chairs that they offer to the ENTIRE hotel. Also, the sun falls behind the hotel after 12 noon and you're in shade the rest of the afternoon.

The rooms are small if you're staying with a group of more than 2. Noise from hotel was never a factor for us (we had downstairs, pool-side rooms). The beds were fine, although there are several cracks and chips in the wall paint and the tub / shower combo couldn't quite spit water out of just one or the other, which left us standing in a puddle during our showers. Sorta depressing.

The Grafton advertises a "free car ride" and we tried to use the service several times. Apparently we are the Goldilocks of customers, because every time we wanted to use the service, we were told we were too close to where we wanted to go, or too far, or the driver was on a break, or they don't go anywhere after 11 pm.

The Grafton was perfect for our purposes, as we were out all day and night and never in the hotel, but I highly doubt I will ever stay there again.

My girlfriend and I had a great experience here.  We were totally pleased with the decor. The room was warm and inviting.  Bed was comfortable.  Nice layout.   Great Location.  Service was excellent. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is the fact that the 24 hours I was there the internet connection was not working.  That was a bummer, but I managed.  I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone who will be in West Hollywood.

As other reviewers have pointed out, this place is half-assed. The service is lukewarm, soundproofing non-existent and the price is simply too high for what you get.

The biggest problem is noise. If you expect to get a sound night's sleep, stay somewhere else.

This hotel is the classic of something that tries too hard and fails miserably.   Although it houses the upscale restaurant Boa, the upscale ends there.  The decor they claim as "chic" was purchased at IKEA and everything is falling apart.

I also HATED the fact that every cheap trinket in the hotel was for sale and there were warnings everywhere that if you stole   x, y, or z there would be charges.  The plastic frog in the bathroom was $3.  EWWWW......gross!  If  I want a plastic frog in my bathroom, I want it to be new NOT recycled.  After I read this statement I became VERY germ-a-phobic and started looking at everything else closely.  I found that the maids apparently don't know how to clean under the beds (wrappers galore!).  NOT upscale by any sense of the imagination!

On an interesting note there was a "personal can of oxygen" for my use during my stay.  Cost: $14.95 per canister.  Price if you took canister: $69.95.  I didn't use it, but my LA-based friend told me that this is THE way to cure a hangover.  In West Hollywood that is a good tip!

I have no comment on the noise factor.  I had a room that was poolside.  The pool was one of the pluses of the whole place.  Beautiful and relaxing!  There is also a patio that overlooks the pool that is a great place for drinks and/or dinner.

Yes, this hotel falls into the "budget" category, but only when compared to the next door hotels like the Mondrian and Standard.  However, when you stay at the aforementioned hotels, you get what you pay for.

The staff was very friendly, but you get better service elsewhere. It took over 5 hours for my room to be made up after I requested it.   I've already mentioned the cleanliness (or non-cleanliness) of the room. The wireless cost money.  Check-in was horrible; they showed me to the wrong room (with the wrong number of beds) and were unapologetic about it.  It took time for me to sort it out.

The location can't be beat and although the valet runs you $24.95/night, you do get in/out privileges and use of a drop-off car to take you where you want (but not back).  All bonuses.

The first indication this hotel isn't particularly quiet or classy is probably the sections of razor blade scratches on the bathroom counters. Then again, if you're looking for a nice, quiet, luxury hotel you probably shouldn't be staying on Sunset. Blvd. Even at the Mondrian, there is always a party to be had (and heard) close by. If you're paying over $200 for a night's stay here, you should feel like you're getting ripped off, although for under 2 bills it's a nice alternative to the Best Western or another chain in a less interesting location.

If you know what you're getting into, I don't really mind staying here, even on business. Granted, part of our business is taking our clients out for drinks, so the location is to our advantage. The rooms are generally clean, and have a colorful, funky style. The beds are adorned with zebra duvet covers and giant pictures of burlesque women on the wall. I wouldn't be surprised if they installed mirrors on the ceilings and lava laps in the closet. Welcome to Hollywood, at its kitschiest.

Service was a mix of good and not so good. When I checked in, they gave me a room that was already occupied, and throughout my trip my hotel keys continually didn't work. Otherwise the valet service was efficient, and the people were nice.

I didn't eat at the hotel's BOA restaurant but I've heard good things, and there is cute patio with a few tables overlooking the pool if you want to eat outside. While room service is insanely expensive ($70 for salad, soup and a glass of wine) my coworker said her meal was very good. The small bar adjacent to the lobby is nice for an early pre-party or late night drink, however if you're looking for a swanky clubby Hollywood night out you should consider venturing out.

What a big fat waste of my money. I spent $233 to stay here for one night.
Only to find out that this place is completely HALF-ASSED and overpriced.

If you're gonna spend that type of money, go to a HOTEL not a BOUTIQUE HOTEL, and especially not this one, cuz I've been to boutique hotels elsewhere and they were fantastic.

Yes, Boa is awesome, but this boutique hotel just takes advantage of it's location.

My sink would clog and not flush for 30 minutes. To flush the toilet I had to reach under the sink between the toilet paper holder and the toilet, wedged way in there. The paint was sloppy, the remodeling seemed like it was done by monkeys.
And when I mentioned the inconvenience of almost not having a working sink, the clerk at the front desk simply said: "oh, sorry about that".
Anywhere else they woulda given u a discount or a lengthy apology to avoid bad word-of-mouth.
But at the Grafton, they simply don't give a damn .. they have their little hip boutique hotel on the strip nestled between other hotels and hotspots so they don't need to improve anything.

I mean, if they're getting this much money from people staying there, can't they step up their standards and make this place LOOK like it's worth your money? Dunno, hopefully one day they will.

The pool is small and almost useless, they can't even fit more than 8 pool chairs.

The day after I spent $140 to stay @ the Biltmore Hotel in downtown and THAT was worth it.

If you're in that price range, go anywhere else BUT the Grafton.

The Grafton is a really nice hotel, great location on Sunset easy access to West Hollywood and Hollywood, and isn't too expensive. The rooms are nice size with queen size beds. Pool is located in the central courtyard, which is nice and convenient for those on the first level, but there is almost no time of day with lots of bright sunshine the pool area. Overall, I liked it and might go back, if I'm trying to save money, but stay in this ultra-hip area of town.

This place pissed me off really bad last night, so bad I contemplated committing crimes.

Everything is actually pretty decent as far as accommodation, but on a Saturday night don't plan on getting any sleep, and I mean any.  Staying on the Sunset Strip on a Saturday night and wanting to catch a few winks is like asking for an hand job at a Christian rock concert.  Never gonna get it never gonna get it never gonna get it, whoa, whoa, whoa whooaa!

I somehow managed to almost fall asleep even though the sky bar right next door literally had a sub woofer in my room and rattling my skull.  Once the music cut out though the fun just started for my evening of misery.  My poor girlfriend had to get up at 7 am for a conference and about 10 minutes after last call the human sounds started.  The walls here are paper thin.  Let's just say that the moaning I heard would have been a great way for poison control to induce vomiting.

Finally at 3am that stopped and in rolled a gang of 10-15 drunk ass late teen early twenty-somethings.  At this point I felt like my girlfriend was about to lose her shit so we called the front desk.  After about 3 hours and 4 repeat visits by hotel security, the cops finally escorted these hooligans out.  Needless to say our wake up call at 6:30am was completely unnecessary.

I am trying to be a positive person so I will say that have complimentary ice tea and a nice pool.

This is a great budget hotel!

It's right on the strip (next to the Mondrian.. that's how I found out about it) and is a very reasonably priced boutique hotel.

Pretty small (I think they only have like 5 floors or something), with a small pool and maybe 10-15 pool chairs.

Rooms are a good size, although I do think it's a little dark. Bathrooms are clean/somewhat modern... SO much better than The Standard on Sunset. Yek.

They offer valet parking (you have to pay extra, but it's LA, it's expected...) and if I'm correct there's a steak house attached to The Grafton that is also very good.

They also have a nice/easy brunch and you can dine on the patio overlooking the pool. Service is very friendly and I even made friends with the waiter and he slipped me an extra kir royal on the house. So sweet! :)

Definitely recommend this place if you're on a budget but still want to be in the middle of everything.

Unbelieveably amazing staff.  I've stayed here numerous times, and never once had a problem with the noise.  That could be because I'm treated with a VIP status, and the staff ensures I get a room towards the back of the hotel and away from the noise of the bars.  Nice amenities and clean rooms.  I love the rubber froggie.  The location can't be beat, and the prices are decent enough.  And who can beat free transportation to the hot spots?

Don't be deceived by the elegant looks on the website. While the pool is lovely, Boa restaurant is unique and high quality, the front desk service was the worst I have received in any business anywhere!

If you want to hear the full story, continue reading...
Our room was booked by a coworker who would be flying in 9 hours after us. She had called the front desk that morning to provide our names to allow us to check in. They wouldn't allow it. We got there thinking, no big deal there are tons of things to see on the boulevard. After 4 hrs it got old. We checked with the kid at the front to see if there was anyway possible to check in, we were so tired! He said only if we paid for both nights on our credit card, or cash... however we were not staying the full time the room was booked. We chose to wait on their patio for another 3 hrs. At this time, my travel mate began to look ill. She recently had a baby and I was concerned. Turned out she had food poisoning... By this time I grew agitated with the entire situation and asked to speak to a manager, the kid had a smirk and ridiculous attitude at this request stating "the manager will tell you the same thing." I said I would like to see for myself. He continued
to argue with me. I finally got to the manager and turned out, all we needed was her on the phone to provide a card authorization!!! 7 and 1/2 hrs later... we finally got to rest!

Don't expect anyone to bend over backwards for your comfort and don't expect to get much sleep before 2AM on a weekend.

My stars go to the Restaurant staff and food, not the hotel.

We booked through a third party discounter, that I have used in the past for other hotels with no problems and exceptional value. The Grafton would not know customer service if it bit them on the @ss. We requested a room that was away from the "action" of their small night club, and because we wanted a non-smoking room, we were put on the main hallway, just off the lobby, across the hall from the bar. Luckily we did not have an early morning. I tried to get a late check out and was told I would have to call back in the morning. When I called back they told me that is was $25/hr for every hour past noon that we wished to stay. Hmmm, if I would have known that it was a hotel that rented by the hour, I would have opted elsewhere.
Our friends were in a N/S room, that smelled like an ash tray, and were not impressed with the value or service either. All of the staff could not be less helpful. In every instance they were aloof and not caring. I think that we would have been treated better in a seedier area of Hollywood.

I read a few reviews that complained about the noise factor. This hotel is located on Sunset near Saddle Ranch, HOB, rock & roll Hyatt, and next to BOA so what do you expect? I chose this hotel because of that but my gripe was with the lack of service with the clogged toilet and the broken AC. The checking in process went smoothly and once we got into the room i tried to turn on the AC and it didn't work at all. I called the front desk and informed them of the situation, we were on our way to dinner and they promised to have the AC working and the toilet unclogged. The maintenance guy was not able to fix the AC but at least the toilet was fixed. The hotel is nice, but there is too much hype for this hotel.

This is a hotel that tries to be a swank boutique hotel like it's neighbor, the Mondrian, but it fails miserably because it's half-assed. First off, there's the noise factor. Yes, you expect that on the Strip but I would at least think someone figured out how to sound proof a room better. Almost got electrocuted in the bathroom and service was shaky at best. OK, on the plus side they seem to have a nice restaurant and bar there and the pool view on the second deck is nice. They also have the free iced tea (nice touch) and a library of CD's you can listen to at your leisure. Not to mention a free business center to check out the web among other stuff. But the bad outweighs the good so I don't plan staying here ever again.

Well I couldn't disagree more with the previous reviewers of the Grafton. I've been staying here for the past three nights and I've had a nearly flawless experience. I booked ahead to get a poolside room, which I am very glad I did. What a wonderful melange of people we have seen in these past few days. Most all of the other guests are "in the business" or trying to be, so the talk out by the pool was interesting to say the least. I'm an avid people watcher and this place proved a favourite in the entertainment department. We saw a few faces we thought were famous, not by the pool but in the lobby and outside the front. The pool-side pack comprised of no famous faces, but plenty of aspirations were addressed, often at a raised volume since you can't become famous if nobody knows you're going to be! haha But seriously, the pool area proved the best part of the Grafton because you can't beat the laughs we got out of some of these wannabe musicians--and who knows, maybe (haha!) they'll make it someday!

I know what they all say about room service: don't do it, it's a waste of money! Well, after walking a good 15 miles and developing a new hatred for flip-flops, coming back to our room was a blessing and we kept the fellas in business. Sure, the food was pricey but room service always is, and we were obviously pleased enough with the food to order it several times.

Our room is hardly feng-shui as advertised, and I couldn't care less--the bed is so comfortable and we're not here for the interior decor, we're here for the people watching.

The service here has been top-notch. Nothing luke-warm about it, and this place doesn't seem half-assed to me. I've traveled my whole life, been to more hotels than most people would want, and I like to think I've got a pretty dern good idea of a nice place when I see (or stay at) it. Yes, the rooms here are expensive, but for the location and the atmosphere (not just by the pool, but in BOA as well), it really isn't asking too much.

Loved my stay here and the only issue was a small mix-up with the credit card on file and the situation was dissipated within 5 minutes. The staff is WONDERFUL here, and I'll be staying here again whenever I visit West Hollywood.

It's like an upgraded inn. Should this place even be considered a hotel? I felt like I was staying in a basement since instead of taking the elevator up to my room, I had to take it down. A lot of people complained that their rooms smelled funny - of smoke? The ice machine was at a hidden spot. But at least the staff members were courteous and friendly.

This modern little boutique hotel is fab and in a great location. I loved a lot of things about it -- BUT the service was absolutely dreadful. This is the only hotel I've ever stayed in where the staff kept interrupting me while I was in my room -- to check the mini-bar, bring in a new couch (???) and knock on my door numerous times to find out if I'd checked out yet. (I had arranged late checkout.) I haven't stayed there in a few years, so, hopefully, the service is much better now. Can't say I'd stay here again, based on my visit.
