I hate to be one raining on the parade but...
It seriously was just okay to me. I just felt the plate looked kinda messy and like they didn't put much effort in it. It was about an El Fenix taste to me.
I DID like their salsa and chips though, pretty spicy.
I had the sour cream chicken enchiladas and the sour cream looked like cheese rather than sour cream. And they only gave very few chicken pieces.
Might come back to try something different though...

SUPPORT FAMILY OWNED MOM AND POP SHOPS---

If you have seen my lists...then this is right up my alley.  I was introduced to Graciela's on a whim.  A friend of mine wanted some lunch and we drove by a lot of chain places and wanted to try something different.  In a glimmer, we saw Graciela's.  I remember walking in and seeing lots of fun frogs and murals.  If I recall...there was even a little area with plants and  a fountain.  I ordered some nachos and a soda-they were good.  For the record, I had never heard of "Sopapillas."  HAVE YOU? Maybe I lived in a cage, but it's this puffed up tortilla looking thing with cinnamon sugar. It came out hot and served with honey.  My friend suggested I order it..but since I was not hip to the tex mex flavor, I was clueless.  I was pleasantly surprised and really liked it.  I have not had one since :(

Note:  This review was written by a Californian who never knew what a Sopapilla was...and has now educated the masses in CALI!  Picture under my profile pictures for those like...not hip to the know!

Still missing TEXAS..every so often...

So I happened to have read Sonny's thread the other day about his Mom's place and I got to check it out today after my morning classes.

The place is pretty clean. I liked how everything in there was kind of brightly decorated with the pastel colors from the yellow walls to the multi colored tablecloths. It's kind of a small place, the mirror on one of the walls makes it look bigger than it is.

The complimentary chips and salsa are great. They come out fresh and warm. The salsa was pretty good and spicy, I was actually starting to sweat a little so I had to stop myself before eating the whole basket full of chips. More of the flavors came from the peppers than the cilantro and this is the balance that I really look for in salsa.

This afternoon I tried Hector's plate which had a cheesy taco, an enchilada, and a tamale dizzled in a meaty chili sauce. Mmmm.

Service was pretty good. I was greeted and seated immediately, the server was quite polite, and food came out pretty quick, which makes for a great option for a quick lunch!

SUPPORT MY MOM's RESTAURANT!

My favorite place to eat when I am in town, after all my mom owns the place! You might even see my name on the menu, as I have an item named after me: the Sonny special. Yet I haven't ordered it in years, because I was 13 at the time I ate that and never hate anything else.

I cannot tell a lie, everything we have on our menu who good. A trade secret we have a great bean soup and my friend Tuerk loves the burgers,  with a side of avocado. They even have breakfast, any time of the day.  I admit the desserts are limited, thus best not to save room. Finish your plate.

My mom has always prided herself in running a clean establishment, it's from years of cleaning up after me. Make sure you talk her up a bit, let her know you read about the place from here. Just no hitting on her because you would have to have a talk.

FYI- Closed on Sundays!
