3 reviews for Gourmet Shish-Kebab Corp
Thus far, this seems to be the best Middle Eastern joint (although they seem to bill themselves as an Indian place) in the Greater Laurel area.
The Vegetarian Angle
Let's face it - Middle Eastern food is, generally speaking, a very meat oriented cuisine. One might think that at a place named after a purely meat oriented style of cooking, this place would be very unfriendly to our kind.
On the contrary, there is a delicious eggplant curry, and a falafel plate that are both quite excellent and substantial, as well as the various side dishes one might expect at such a joint.
The Spy Angle
Spy or not, the food is good. While there seems to be substantive information available indicating that the owner took some part in spying for the Hussein regime, I figure if the U.S. government is still letting him sit around in Laurel and serve up tasty Middle Eastern fare, it must not have been that bad.
PS
Whoever the jerk was that flagged the really hilarious review about the spy stuff, you've deprived every future visitor of this thread of some great comedy.
One of the few places in the area to get kabobs. They offer beef, lamb, and chicken in both plain and spicy varieties, with spicy lamb generally being the group favorite. They also offer non-kabob meals, which I've never gotten, but friends have enjoyed. Portions are good and they offer a fair selection of sides. Prices are reasonable.
I'm not enough of a regional aficionado to know if their style is Persian, Arab, Turkish, or what, but it doesn't really matter -- it's the only game in town in the Laurel area!
It's a family run operation, and can be a bit slow at times, but the food is always decent and they seem to have a steady stream of business, with a substantial number of take-out customers.
I've lived in Laurel for almost two years and can say that the food here, for the most part, sucks. This is the best in Laurel, hands down.
