I judge all chicken enchiladas by the ones coming out of the ovens of Gourmet Mexican Deli's. I use to live but a mile from this place and when it first opened up twenty years ago, I fell in love with its orange sauce and tons of cheese on top of the chicken. I could drink this sauce it's so good! Any time I visit my parents and they want to just "grab" something, I beg them to grab from here!
Be forewarned, though, this is not a dine in place. With tables that remind me of high school and the warm heat that says "go bring your dinner home," you'll want to dine elsewhere with your lovely Mexican food. If, however, you just need a great place to eat for lunch that is quick, this will work for you.
Oh, I have had the burritos and they are awesome - and huge - too. But truth is, I come for the enchiladas. Period.

Store bought food reheated was the experience I had. I went years ago and hoped it was better. We went because we were hungry and it was a convenient stop. Looking for something fresh, Baja Fresh is cheaper and yummer!
Bland , just meh. I had not eaten hear in years and remember it not begin that great. We went because we were hungry and it was a convenient stop. My hungry companion didn't finish her food and mine was...well it sucked just like I remembered. How has this place stayed open all these years?
During lunch, I ordered a Mini carne asada Burrito drenched in enchilada sauce. My friend ordered a Super Nachos. My assumptions were right! The mini was pretty big! And I was pleased!
I was impressed with the Menu because it was very visual, the place was a bit run down and the food was delicious, but not that special.
I must say that the enchilada sauce was unique and I found myself devouring every last drop.
This is a great place to eat during your lunch break if you happen to be in the area. But it's nothing to travels miles for.
So the first time I decided to try this place, I got a medium burrito but super (ie sour cream and all that fun stuff) and really was rather unimpressed by the place. The food was sort of bland, the cashier woman was unfriendly, and the place had a dirty feel to it.
But I gave it another try for lunch this afternoon and had a change of heart.
This time walking in, I knew what to except as far as decor goes, so oh well, still dirty feeling. The cashier woman was more friendly this time and I think even managed a smile. I ordered the same this again and chips and salsa, plus a pepsi. Total was 7.43 - just as much really as a sandwich place.
So a short wait later, I left with my lunch and headed back to the office.
Surprisingly the chips were fresh and warm, perfectly lightly salted. The salsa was more of a chipoltle one but still rather tasty. The burrito seemed to be a bit more flavorful, the chicken a bit more savory. So it quenched my need for Mexican and did a pretty good job.
Other:
They also have a really extensive list of things.
It's in the back of the shopping center, could be missed easily.
They take credit.
This is one of the best places we've found for goooood Mexican food in San Jose. I usually judge a Mexican restaurant by it's chips and salsa and it's refried beans--and this place makes me crave both!
Thankfully, it's really close to my husband's work, and the Cottle light rail station...so when I get off work, and am craving a spicy bite of yummy Mexican goodness...we head for the Gourmet Mexican Deli!
The BEST Chilli Rellano (sp?) in town!!
Been going here since I can remember, the Marias special and their super burritos are hige and so good.
I've been comming here since it opened. Bar none the greatest bean and chees burritos ever. You may think that that is too basic and nothing to brag about but take it from a true beaner, this place makes the best. Now the rest of the food is great too but since I was a kid B&C has always been one of my fav. menu items. 4 stars for the food would have been 5 but they are a little pricey for a small joint and it could use a little fixin up.
Got a breakfast burrito on 4/5/09. The breakfast portion of chorizo and eggs was not made fresh, but rather school lunch style. To top that off the price was $7.00. You can do better at every other taqueria.
Best shredded beef and bean burrito EVER! Spicey. While I am sure they are not too healthy- they taste great partly because they are not deep fried, no cheese, no sour cream, just great tortilla, beans and the most amazing shredded beef ever! Delicious! I moved away from the area and still crave their burritos.
