Things to love:
-Great view from the deck.
-Cute gift shop with lots of fun stuff, haven't been able to get out there without buying something.
-The sweet, friendly couple who own the place.
-Oh, did I forget the wine??? Yes, they've got a fair amount of choices by the bottle and you can also order a glass or a surfboard (3 tastes) and sit out on the deck and enjoy your wine, friends and view.
-We ordered the cheese and crackers last time I was there and it was delicious. They don't have a ton of food options, which is too bad but they don't appear to have a kitchen so I was v. happy w/ my snack.
Really great place, a must stop if you're going to or through Bodega Bay.
My wife and I bought a vacation home in the South Harbor neighborhood of Bodega Bay about a year ago. Shortly thereafter we discovered Gourmet Au Bay. In the last 9 months, we've not only enjoyed wonderful wine flights and cheese on spectactular afternoons watching the sunset on Bodega Harbor, but we've been introduced to a number of Sonoma County wines that we otherwise never would have tasted (Jules and TaraBella Cab's are amongst the best). Their gift shop is fantastic-which we've invested in heavily with wine glasses, hurricane lamps and many other tasteful additions to our beach home. Best of all, Bob and Sissy are fantastic-they're what make Gourmet Au Bay a must-see attraction in Bodega Bay.
great little tasting bar with an amazing ocean view. wine surfing is such a unique idea and a great way to spend a couple of hours. They had a really nice selection of local wines, especially Russian River Valley. Would defiantly go again anytime I am in Bodega Bay.
This place is very small and intimate. Nice back deck to hang out and have a glass of wine. Nice wine selection as well. I would have given this place 4 stars but the musician they had was not only really bad but it ruined the ambiance.
We stuck it out until 5 when he was supposed to stop singing to enjoy the water, our wine, and the nice deck but he played on another 10 minutes so we left. This place does not need music to bring in more folks.
The Boo and I were driving through Bodega Bay on V-Day and I made him turn the car around as were driving for two reasons:
1.Saltwater taffy.
2. Wine tasting.
After indulging me with peppermint taffy, we went to Gourmet Au Bay for wine tasting. This is such a friendly place with a good selection of wines. We each had a wine 'surf' and sat on the balcony to take in the scenery.
After "surfing" I had another glass of wine and chatted with Sissy (the gal from FL who now runs the place with her Boo) and was impressed with my experience here. After feeling a little warm in the cheeks, I joined the 2 x 4 wine club and can't wait for my first arrival!
This is nice little store with gifts and wine .... nice but nothing unusual. What is amazing is their deck facing the bay where you can enjoy the wine. This was really amazing saturday afternoon.
btw the wine is very good and not overpriced
Bodega Bay doesn't have much going on in the way of nightlife.
This little spot is just about the only chill place to hang out - and it's a good one. Open from 11a-7p most days and until 8p on Fri & Saturday, Gourmet Au Bay is a wine store, gift shop and tasting room.
A lovely couple took over ownership in August, having recently relocated from Florida to run the shop. They're quite lovely people, who man the gift shop and wine tasting bar with a smile. They offer a daily tasting of 3 whites and 3 reds (which you can get by the glass or 3 2oz pours in a 'surf') along with 2-3 featured beers and somem cheeses.
The main appeal is that you can take your wine out onto the deck and sip it while enjoying the sunset over Bodega Bay. Nice conversation, tasty Zin - and a view. What more could you want?
I keep driving by this place meaning to try it, finally brought some friends in that were visiting from out of town. From the front it just looks like a wine shop but it has a lovely little hidden deck with heat lamps right on the bay. Perfect! We sipped wine flights and had a lovely time. I almost didn't want to review it because I want it all to myself but it's too wonderful a place not to support!
Came here yesterday with a friend. Sissy and Bob are warm and welcoming and their dog is absolutely adorable! We sat out on the back deck overlooking Bodega Bay while sipping on wine and munching on goat cheese. We watched birds dancing in silhouette as the sun set and someone softly played a guitar. It was the perfect ending to a perfect and relaxing Sunday afternoon. We each ordered two flights of tastings. The selections were delicious, particularly the pinot noir and both of the desert wines. My friend and I couldn't resist buying several bottles for home. Sissy also mentioned that she would be happy to send or even deliver (when she comes to the city) any wines we might want in the future. I most definitely will be making more trips up from the city. Fantastic!
We had one night in Bodega Bay and found Gourmet au Bay on Yelp. It was also nice since it was across the street from where we were staying. My husband and I really had a nice time here. It is a place to relax and enjoy the view. Great wine too! The owners were very lovely. Please stop by, you won't be disappointed if you want a nice glass of wine and a view. Fridays are busy and space is limited, so try an off night so you won't be upset.
it's a cute gift shop with a tasting room/deck overlooking bodega bay. it's more like a gift/wine shop than a tasting bar, but what really sold me was the deck area. my friends and i went there on a really really nice day with a clear view of the bay, and it was just perfect! if you are in the area, you should definitely stop by & enjoy wine-surfing. three wines for $8.
