The food here is delicious. I've been here five times, and I've loved it every one of them. I always get the hibachi steak sirloin, and it's always cooked perfectly. Before they come cook your meal, they serve a really nice soup (I think it's onion-flavored, and it has a few small mushroom pieces) and a small garden salad with a very unique (and very good) ginger dressing. They also have really good ginger ice cream after the meal (if you've still got room).
The "performance" aspect is awesome. The chef makes a huge fire at the beginning, and then does various tricks involving fire (like making a mountain out of the onions and making it spit fire like a volcano) and various cooking-utensil-acrobatics. He'll also attempt toss a piece of shrimp into anyone's mouth who wants one. I caught mine once, but today it landed in my hair :(
Overall, I love this place. If you're ever near the area and have a group of people to entertain, bring them here. They'll love the food and have a really fun time.
Great food here, and really cool to experience if you've never been to something like this.
Bring the family on an off-weekend, might as well let them foot the bill!
Completely exceeded my expectations. It was a Saturday night so I assumed it would be packed, which the hibachi was, but the sushi part of the restaurant had plenty of seating which was exactly what we wanted. We sat at the sushi bar and each of ordered one of their sushi and sashimi combos since we didn't know what was good and wanted to try a little bit of everything.
Not only did it come with the usual soup and salad but it also came with another small salad that they said was spaghetti squash with a ginger sauce and a tempura tofu that was just sooo great and creamy. My friend thought it was so awesome she drank the soy sauce. The entrees came and it was a beautiful presentation and on top of that they gave us another dish on the house. I have no reason why but I had no complaints there. They probably saw how excited we were about being there and just wanted to make it an even better experience for us. I will DEFINITELY be coming here again! So delicious.
One time I caught 3 shrimp in my mouth in a row!
Suki-Yaki steak was delicious and affordable! Actually I tried everything on the menu and it was great. Scallops, shrimp, chicken, steak. It all comes out tasting pretty similar but delicious none the less. The bar also mixes those fruity Polynesian drinks that you can drink one after another cause they taste like candy.
It's great for the price and a good time.
I suggest going with a group cause they'll sit you with strangers if you don't. Go on a weeknight to get your own table/chef.
I don't care what anyone says, I love this place. It's a good bargain -- soup (delicious soup), salad (awesome house dressing), shrimp appetizer, the meal (super tasty), ice cream (they'll give you fruit if you're lactose intolerant), and green tea -- all for only 20-25.00. That's not bad, especially when you consider you're also getting a show (Habachi style -- they cook right in front of you). My other half complains because they make you sit with strangers around the grill, but I don't mind. He also hates that, "the food all tastes the same." That's when I say, "yah... it all tastes delicious."
Plus, the waitress will wrap your leftovers in tinfoil -- trying to sculpt any animal you can think of. Granted, peacocks and whales are their forte -- but they're really good sports. I got an orangatan once.
I was simply blown away by this place. Who would expect a fabulous sushi restaurant in the middle of nowhere? My two friends and I sat at the sushi bar and ordered a variety of items; two a la carte sushi, an avocado roll, and a combination plate, yet we were treated as if we had all ordered huge meals. We were brought a salad and pickled radish (I believe), and tempura tofu to start - and these were completely unexpected. We then received an unexpected soup, which was delicious. Our orders arrived, elegantly displayed, and were delicious. My combination plate, at less that $15, would have fed two persons easily. With two beers and a mai tai, our order was still under $50. I have paid much, much more in Boston for sushi that did not match that of Goten of Japan. I have ten more days to work in this area of Massachusetts, and you can bet that I will be there at least once more during my stay.
They will exceed your expectations every time. Awesome food paired with an equally amazing experience as they make it in front of you.
Avoid this place during UMass Amherst's graduation days... They grossly overbooked the restaurant when we went on our graduation day. Despite making a reservation for 6 p.m. and confirming it earlier that morning, we didn't get seated until almost 7 p.m. When we complained about the delay, there was an argument from a very rude woman manager blaming the delay on late reservations and the graduation crowd. No apology was ever offered. They obviously couldn't handle the rush, and instead of canceling reservations for late parties, they decided to delay every single following reservation.
That being said, after we got past the incompetence of the management, the food staff were extremely nice and did their jobs very well. Our waitress was friendly and the cook was very entertaining! Food is delicious and there is a lot of it!
Highly recommended for the food, but avoid on graduation day!
