This is my go to place for a quick meal. $6 and out the door for a huge, delicious super burrito. If I'm not as hungry, I go with the quesadilla, which is tender/flakey/crispy/cheesy tortilla wrapped, burrito-style. I eat here about once a week, and it always delivers.
Steak and carnitas are where it's at here for meat, though the carnitas are sometimes a bit dry. Everything is consistently tasty, and they don't skimp with the sour cream and guac if you ask. For Mexican food in SF, Gordo's is the best bang for your buck that I know of.
Definitely a good plate to grab a burrito in the Inner Sunset. Tortillas are warmed up (with cheese if you want it) before the burrito is made. Good black beans, carne asada and pollo were both tasty. Pico de Gallo had a good onion-y slightly spicy flavor, though I did add a little bit of hot sauce, so that added to it too of course. Guacamole was a little watery looking, but tasted good once it was in the burrito and mixed in with everything else.
Friendly service, cheap ($6.24) burrito, comfortable bench seats. I'm full but not stuffed, and will certainly be back here next time a burrito craving hits!
(P.S. They also have tacos and quesadillas...maybe next time?)
This place was pretty good. Solid sized burritos.
But the only thing I can remember is driving around the neighborhood in search of a burrito place called "Lardos", hahahaha.
Thanks Ashley M.
For a Mexican restaurant in the sunset, i consider it pretty darn good.
The service is quick and they ask what you want in a certain order. Sometimes it can be hard to distinguish what they're saying, so you have to ask them to say it again. Service is also pretty friendly.
Here's the important part of the review. I have only had their burritos and have never encountered one that I thought was bad. It was also pretty stuffing and I love their hot sauce. I always ask for a little more. Their beef and chile verde burritos are my favorite. The prices aren't too bad either. They're about $5 a burrito.
So if you're looking for something filling and spicy, come to Gordo's for some delicious Mexican food.
2 stars because it's clean and inexpensive.
being from socal, we know about good mexican eats. first of all, right before we walked in, i said to my friends, "this place looks too clean" usually too clean = making up for lack of something... (or they just like to be clean, which is good)
the food. inexpensive. but bland!! absolutely 0 taste. the red sauce was deep red so i was somewhat excited... but once i tried it i was extremely disappointed. so watered down. was that just red food dye?!
we also had chips and salsa. got a "mild" sauce. wtf. that shit was just chopped tomatoes and onions. no flavor!!!
completely regret coming here. we just wanted a quick munch after hours of walking.
i'm here...once or twice a week religiously. super, boiled chicken on a wheat tortilla w/ everything but hold the beans.
clean, consistent, quick service with excellent CSAT. plus the burritos won't leave you feeling like a gordo.
Gordos has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. It's not super special, but always reliable and delicious. If you're feeling adventurous ask them to make you a burrito with two tortillas. They'll look at you like you're crazy, but each bite is like the end of the burrito.
The salsa and quac here is amazing, so I think maybe even over the burritos that's my favorite part. It's cash only though, which is pretty lame.
The first time I came here it was one of the best burritos I had had in the city but I had not eaten breakfast so I may not have been thinking clearly. The second time I came it was good but nothing to write home about. The third time it was a boring basic big burrito.
San Francisco locals will find nothing special about this place but if you're from out of town you might think this is the best thing since sliced bread. If this taqueria was in Sacramento I might give it five stars but there is a little more to live up to here.
City Health Card = 98
When you aren't on the Mission, this is where you go for some really good Mexican food, especially their burritos! I enjoy grabbing food to go and then going across the street to the park because they can be packed at times.
Their prices are reasonable, their chips and tortillas are fresh, they have a variety of tortillas to chose from for your burritos and their meats are tender to the taste. Now this is what I call a "hole-in-the-wall-heaven!!"
I have been here twice and each time was disappointed. Sloppy burritos...and I mean the assembly, not the style. It's not hard to make a burrito and wrap it in a piece of foil, but for some reason I can't seem to get one that doesn't fall apart or isn't folded over on top of itself in the foil. You have to see it to understand how illogical this is.
Food quality...meh. There's a great place right around the corner instead.
I know a few people insist on going here, but I get the sense it's more for the GGP tourists who get tired of walking.
I don't know why, but every week I come back to this place. It might just because I work over at the de Young and this is close by, but I don't think so.
I always get either the chicken or beef super burrito, no beans, everything else + sour cream. Delicious. I've had some pretty bad run-ins with burritos (so bad I don't even want to re-live them, lest I lose my taste for Gordo) and Gordo came into my life.
DEFINITELY do not come here more than you need to, but it is definitely worth it as a quick bite before work, or anything of the like. =]
No the workers are not, by all means, a tiny bit nice here. They don't smile or say hi but i don't care. and they talk on the phone WHILE im telling them my order. its also freakin annoying that they wrap the burrito with one foil. but i love it here.. Its cheap and everything tastes fresh. It doesn't taste too heavy, although i never finish a whole burrito.
Their salsa is about $2 but sooo worth it.. Its delicious and spicy and great with the chips, another $1.50
Insert some kind of factoid about how the number of burritos I've eaten here could reach the moon and back.
And despite eating all these burritos over the years, Gordos is just average. It's the Lab mix of burritos. The VW Jetta of Mexican food. Average. Not great. Not bad. Okay. Just okay.
You see, San Franciscans have more Mexican food eateries than they know what to do with, especially in the Mission but honestly every neighborhood seems to have at least one or two taquerias. Therefore, it's sink or swim and while Gordo's rarely sinks, it hardly floats to the top. If only La Cornetta would open in the Sunset....
Gordo's is average Taqueria fare. It's not outstanding-OMG-good, but it's good enough. I work close by, so when I'm in the mood for food that will eventually make me fat or kill me, I go here. It's standard.
Went to Gordo's this weekend remembering how tasty their burritos are. It had been a couple of years since my last visit. The reason for this review is not the quality of the food but the fact that these guys will
try to rip you off any way they can. They no longer offer free tortilla chips, and the burritos are super small. Not big and juicey like before.
They skimp on everything. Will never return.
Oooo Gordo, you were good!
I've been hearing about you for a while now from our neighbors who enjoy your delectable burritos just about every Saturday night. Well, living in Marin, I wasn't sure when I'd find myself in the area to sample the goods... but WAHOO! for the Academy of Sciences Nightlife, 'cuz I found myself hungry and close to you!
I had a pretty basic burrito - regular size with regular tortilla, black beans, rice, cheese, chicken, guac, green sauce - and it was gobbled up within minutes. Made me wish I'd gotten the larger size!
All other members of my party were equally satisfied by their choices (bean & cheese, another chicken, chile verde). Pretty darn fabulous.
Pretty standard mexican food. Nothing too special.
It's cheap and decent quality. You wont leave feeling like you just ate a ton of lard.
Very simple menu and fresh ingredients. Food could be slightly bland depending on what you taste is.
They melt their sliced cheese in the steamer with the tortilla when you order a burrito...cool!
Much better burrito this time around. Ordered a regular burrito with black beans with everything. Be sure to order the spicy salsa, otherwise you'll get a bland burrito. Green salsa=the yums. Something about the black beans, the strange sliced cheese and the salsa that satisfies.
I wish they were cleaner in their burrito building station; there was steak in the black beans and the cleaning towel grosses me out.

Okay burritos, your typically mission variety. The mediocre ones start to all taste the same.… Read more »
I used to love this place about 4 years ago, but now I had no clue what i was thinking. I guess maybe after trying the authentic burritos from the Mission district, it probably overshadowed this place. The burritos here just seem to taste generic and bland. I ordered a steak super burrito with rice, pinto beans, guacamole, sour cream, and cheese last night but for some reason I didn't love it. It was edible but unsatisfying. I would eat Chipotle over this any day which I actually did today =)
I have to agree with Jeff on this one. Great place to grab a bite, pretty reasonable prices and GREAT TASTIN BURRITOS. We usually come here to grab a bite before we head to work. Get the sour cream no matter what! it makes it less dry.
The Salsa here is also great you can either get it spicy or mild, either one is GREAT N TASTY. MHMMMMHMHMHMHMH.
My quesadilla was definitely tasty but a bit greasy. If you want something easy to hold and easy to eat - then opt for a quesadilla... but if you're looking to truly get your money's worth...
...the PLATES are much more WORTH IT. They give you a heaping pile of beans, tomatoes, rice, and your choice of meat, and 4 warm corn tortillas wrapped in foil.
The real reason why I only give them 3 stars?
NO HORCHATA!!
How upsetting! I love my horchata!! Gordo's cannot truly be a taqueria without a jug of horchata nearby the counter :( :(
So delicious. Love that they put cheese with the tortilla. Very nice staff.Decently price and probably the best chips.
I get a beef super burrito just about every time and I am never disappointed.
Mmmmmm Gordo's........the love is in the condiments.
Awesome super burrito with grilled chicken, rice, beans, cheese, hot sauce, sour cream, gauc......mmmmm.
The love is also in the location. That street's got charm.
I'm stuffed.
Ugh. Awful.
The one redeeming factor: it's cheap, and very efficient service.
Otherwise, just gross.
Much prefer Papalote.
Good for the price, but that's about all this place is good for.
I usually just get the chili verde burrito, with some pickled jalepenos, crema, and salsa? (is that really salsa- usually it is just unripe pica di gallo).
It's good when you are starving and only have 6 bucks on ya.
Yuck. Friends from out of town had seven bucks to their name and needed food. Savior Man 5000 on the corner steers them here when I just told them steer clear. He said it's great and CHEAP, i said no. Who listens??? Chains suck, this sucks. You get what you pay for
Mom and pop is the way
I tollllllllllllllld ya so
How have I not reviewed this? Almost got totally Gordo on these because they are so good.... I realized the super burrito was simply an extra scoop of beans and rice, and that was just padding. But the steak is awesome, and not boiled like some places... it is cooked constantly throughout the day. They have multiple types of tortillas, I like me some spinach. They wrap em tight, have fresh made and DELICIOUS tortilla chips that make you feel somewhat guilty with the oil seeping onto the bag.... but look past it friends. Gordo rocks.
Better than Papalote in my book, which consistently gets the best ratings... I can't go more than a week without one.
Been here a few times now and the food is decent. Not great, but I have yet to find a great Mexican restaurant or taqueria in San Francisco. That's about the only thing I miss about living in San Diego.
The super burrito is solid, very large and filling for cheap. Not sure what the difference between a burrito and a super burrito here is, but apparently a super burrito does not include sour cream and guacomole. The quesadillas are delicious, albeit a little too greasy for my taste.
Chips and salsa are not free (La Fonda has excellent chips and salsa for FREE less than a block away). I made the mistake of asking for the mild salsa which is disgusting. Completely bland, no flavor, no spice, nothing. I asked for mild, not tasteless. And the chips aren't great either. No flavor, not salted, nothing. A complete waste of $1.65. I won't be making that mistake again.
Service is choppy. Overall, they seem polite, even if they are a little gruff and incoherent.
I'll probably still come here occasionally, but La Fonda is a much better bet if you ask me, and it is less than a block away.
The first time I've ever had boiled chicken in a burrito - boy, was it tender.
Their red salsa was so good, I wanted to grab the bowl and start drinking it. I can't decide if I like their salsa or Papalote's better.
The perfect way to conclude an afternoon of frolicking at Baker Beach.
Not all Gordo's are created equal.
I made this discovery the other day when picking up a quick bite for lunch. What used to be a tiny hole in the wall has doubled in size which now caters to wandering hipsters, locals, and tourists alike.
The layout is equally confused, with two registers on either side of the counter, a production line of grilled serving as a backdrop. On a busy day, the line loses its shape like a pool of refried beans.
The last time I went, the guy in line in front of me was blind. He didn't have it easy.
I ordered the most simple Gordo burrito, the relatively snack-sized bean and cheese. The rice was lacking a little flavor, and the beans were severely undercooked, so much so that I probably should have returned it to the kitchen.
I guess it just goes to show that what you serve in quantity can have a detrimental affect on it's quality.
In my mind, taquerias that keep all their meat in a warmer and don't at least reheat it on a grill or griddle before they serve it to you can only reach a 4-star rating before they plateau. Gordo has reached it for me. Beans are well seasoned, rice is good, and the portions are big! I ordered a carnitas place, which, for just over $5, came in one of those square boxes bursting with rice, beans, meat, and their mild tomato mix. The carnitas taste like the kind I make at home (and for a little asian girl, I make good carnitas), albeit not as hot as I'd like them to be. If you get chips and salsa, don't get the hot salsa unless you really like it hot!
Came by to give it another try. A regular basic burrito (meat, beans, rice, hot sauce) will go for less than $5. When you ask for anything else they will charge on top, i.e. cheese, guacamole, spinach tortilla, sour cream and I think its like 50 cents extra for each. They offer super burritos, and this has to be the only place in SF, that doesn't offer sour cream guacamole as a standard with a super. And chips and salsa is a separate order.

ehhhh..........
It's okay. I think portion size its a bit small for most sf taqueria locations. I… Read more »
I was a vegetarian for 4 years and I gave that up 2 years ago. Since then, I still don't really eat a ton of meat (just don't care about the title anymore) especially when it comes to sandwiches and burritos. With that said, when I came here and ordered a burrito with no meat it really was nothing special. Not all that great at all really.
I tried a chicken burrito and still wasn't impressed. My boyfriend loves Gordos.... maybe I'll have to try the location at Clement as the "last shot".
It's Saturday evening and I haven't eaten anything all day except for an English muffin. I was starving, and headed to Yancy's to watch the game. The logical side of me took over and said "get some food before you start drinking."
I parked, looked around me, and saw Gordo. I was set for the night.
Super steak burrito + guac + sour cream - beans = food coma heaven. Wolfed it down and followed with a pear cider.
All while Lebron was being a beast on the court.
Nearly forgot that I'd eaten here. But then again, after those 3 weeks of hell, I'm surprised I remember anything at all.
We roll up here, forget which day it was but I know for sure it was somewhere in between finals. I think it was around lunch time. Yes. Because whilst we were there, office workers and other obligatory employed yet hungry people stood in line with lists generated from co-workers.
I got a chicken super burrito. Exciting, unpredictable, and new. No. But filling, comforting and tucking in neatly. Yes.
NOT Cash only.
I think I miss the salsa bars of the other places. The burrito was not...terrible. But it could have been liberally doused with fresh salsa from the non-existent salsa bar instead on only Tapatio. Or maybe I'm too optimistic. Idealistic. Prone to disappointment.
The burrito was huge. Yay. The tortilla was steamed with the cheese, which I happen to like. I don't like it loose and floppy but I do like it a little bit gummy and tightly bound. It just looks so...right. So correct. Like there is order in the world. If there were such a thing as a unified field theory, I think it would exist in a burrito. If Einstein had been privileged to masticate such a tender tidbit, he would know the ether that makes up the universe.
But, all in all, not something that I wake up thinking about.
Just good burritos. I have a super burrito with carnitas, sour cream and guacamole and I've got no complaints, the staff seem friendly and the location is super considering it's just off the 44 and N. It's not the nicest place to sit but then it's best to just grab and go since burritos are, of course, the best takeaway food. I've never seen a big queue in there either which is rare with good food places.
I love the fact the menu is so simple, just a few items for offer so it's not too complicated for a burrito newcomer such as myself, they have a good range of drinks and a soda fountain too. Not much else to say really.
This place is OK. I'm sure it serves the people who live in the neighborhood fine. But if you're looking for a decent burrito go somewhere else. I got a chicken burrito and it OK. Chicken was in large chunks, I was excepting it to be in smaller pieces and not have to bite into the meat. Chips you have to pay and what decent Mexican restaurant doesn't have horchata?
Pluses:
*Friendly service
*Good chips
*Good guacamole
*Convenient location - next to a main artery of Golden Gate Park
*Quick food
*Tables + chairs to dine at if the weather is too cold.
Minuses:
*Chips + Salsa - you pay extra for these, sign of the times.
*No hot sauce on the table

I had a chicken taco. Was okay.
Prior to walking into Golden Gate Park for the Bluegrass festival we hopped off the N train and proceeded to walk down to grab a bite to grub on. So I have said it once and I will say it again- SF and mexican food don't always agree with me. Not to be a snob but mexican food doesn't have to be complicated- the simpler the better, anything that is too frou frou turns me off. When you invest more time and thought into your decor than your food I head for the hills. With this said: I liked this spot A LOT!
I love tacos al pastor so I ordered one and a quesadilla (which are the best things ever) but lets face it how hard is it to f**k up a quesadilla. Well I have had my share of disappointing quesadillas but not here. It was simple and yummy, perfectly toasted flour tortilla and not some slop some fool threw together...so over all this taqueria has my stamp of approval and it was quick and clean and fresh. A sure plus in my book...you will be seeing me again GORDO!
It was not bad
but as yelp says
two stars is "Meh I've experienced better"
And I have
San Franciscans may hate on Los Angeles but we have a plethora of excellent late night Mexican food
We just have a plethora of excellent Mexican food in general
But the fact that you can get it pretty much 24 hours a day is phenomenal
After leaving the nightlife event at the California Academy of Sciences and a very long day where all I had eaten had been a couple cookies and a donut I needed something solid
Gordo did that for me and I scarfed that burrito down
It was just nothing to write home about
Should I be in the Sunset again around 10 p.m. and desperately craving a burrito I'd still eat there
But probably wouldn't make it a particular go out of my way must get a burrito from Gordo type thing on any venture up to the City
