Stop choking down all that other slop (ahem, la pasadita or las pasaditas aka the terrible triangle of diarrhea and vomit) and drive or pink yourselves to this place.
The gorditas (front and center, in the spotlight, seriously grinding your tastebuds into a greasy horned up frenzy) are the best I've had in the area.  By area I mean super close to Chicago because La Chiquita in Franklin Park narrowly beats this place.
The tortillas are awesome.  They have this awesome texture that only lard can bring and nothing will be the same for you afterward.  That seriously lame vegetarian lard-free nonsense that you have after you leave will only serve to anger you.  Coming here will be a lifestyle change and lard-free will no longer cut it in your beans or in your tortillas.  So they have the standard fillings and such.  Their strength doesn't lie in variety but in the glorious execution of each dish.
Limited tools but each one satisfies.
The horchata (pronounced WHORE-CHATA) is pretty good.
I refuse to speak of their other food options as when gorditas are involved I see/hear nothing/ no one else.

GO HERE!

The gorditas are the best in Chicago.  You see a group of women in the back all slapping away at the dough making fresh gorditas.  My husband and I run down there every chance we get.  Our favorites are by far the Gorditas de carne al pastor and the gordita de carnitas con chile verde.  It's great Mexican comfort food.  I also really like their menudo.  I like the fact that they give you hand made tortillas with it.  I have taken all my friends to this spot and everyone has loved it!  I wish they had a location on the North Side.  My only gripe with this place are the restrooms.  I really wish they were better kept and stocked with t.p. and paper towels.  Use the bathroom at home before you go!

I have to go back and try other things before I make a final decision.

I do not like their Menudo. It's just bland and seems like it's made from a can.

Their tacos are good and good portions.

Their gorditas are my favorite for a restaurant and I've been craving them. But I wish they had a better variety. I seem to only get the Rajas con Queso and I'm kinda bored of that. But the doughy part is good. If only El Indio in Cicero could get their gordita bread right.

Their horchata is good.

I hope to comeback to it soon and try some other things so I can make my final decision. The place is crowded.

Now, some people I know think they are expensive, but I don't what they are talking about. I think their portions are pretty well sized and the food is good. I think they are reasonable and 100 times better than "Gorditas La Tia" in Stickney.

Let me preface this by saying, "I really do not like Mexican food".  I  have tried, valiantly, to be open minded about Gorditas, Quesadillas and the whole lot.  But, I really do not/did not like Mexican food...that is, until today.

I met a friend for lunch...at this place.  She is a new friend, so I didn't feel comfortable telling her how much I avoid a) whole in the wall sort of places and b) Mexican food.    So, off I went...and I was pleasantly surprised!

This place is extremely busy...even at 4 p.m. on a Saturday.  Although we were the only non-Hispanic people in the place, everyone was extremely nice and the wait staff made an effort to help us select our dishes.

A few observations.  This place is really very inexpensive!  A burrito is only $4?!   A large Margarita just $4.50.  Our total bill was just $33 for three people.

They had the best guacamole and chips!

The Burrito was good.  Not bad, but not necessarily marvelous.  My frineds sandwich (forgot the Mexican name) looked much better.

There was this relish/veggie/crudite thing on the table...friend said it was really good.  Did not give it a try, but I notices all of the other patrons putting these items on their sandwiches, etc.

Overall a nice experience...would definitely go back.

I needed to be festive this Sat. for Mex. Independence day so what better way than to eat Mexican food.  My dad used to bring me here when I was a kid and it expanded so much, so business must be really good.  They have a parking lot next door and another across the street (it gets really packed on the weekends).

The wait wasn't long at all.  There was a huge sign that said bucket of coronitas for $9 (smaller corona beer) so since I was being festive why not.  I could share w/ my sister.

I had a gordita there which is fried and crispy with meat inside.  Why haven't I ordered them there before? Really good stuff and the beer was going down fine.

Yummy yummy yummy!

Gorditas are the bomb here! I love pretty much all of their food and have never been disappointed.

My only complaint is that I don't get to go here often enough.

Warning to those unfamiliar with the set up...
1) grab your table and grab it fast, they don't seat you.
2) the place is crazy busy on the weekends, be ready to order when the lady comes or you are SOL until someone else notices you
3) Doesn't hurt to know how to order your food in Spanish
4) You can order from whoever walks by if you forgot about something but they don't really like that
5) there is a second parking lot across the street
