when i was a wee one, i used to have to sit in front of the idiot box (that's the TV, to all you youngens) to change the channel for my pop. they didn't have remote controls back then. i am not joking. totally serious. and i fucking hated it. you can only imagine my excitement when my cheap ass pop finally bought a new box w/ remote control. and he wonders why i'm so near sighted.

we also had the Encyclopedia Britannica back then. the entire set. THIS was our Google. and i was a super dorkus maximus because i loved to read and find out bout stuff and constantly went searching in those massive books for endless useless information. much of which actually has been proven false or otherwise today.

and when i did go on the computer, it wasn't to research anything. it was to play a game on the Commodore 64. Kickman or Barbie or Ghostbusters or Lode Runner (best game ever, btw), etc., etc.

man, have times changed. some for the worse, much for the better. Google is one of those for the better things that makes everybody's life just a little easier. imagine how crowded your home would be w/ all of the books you'd need to search all of the stuff Google can provide at the click of a button w/in seconds.

not to mention, all of the free porn, too!

We all love Google.
I do too.
I always appreciate their hard work.

But when I googled "Webster St. & Geary St.", the name of the area showed up and it said, "Little Osaka".
I thought the area was called "Japantown".

I think "Little Osaka" is a nickname for Japantown and  most of the guide books don't mention it so using "Japantown" will make more  sense for tourists. Especially, when you have a wonderful google map system.

Just a thought....

I mostly use Google to surf the web (and help Gayle "cheat" on her NY Times crossword) and enjoy using Chrome instead of Internet Explorer on my laptop. I haven't yet joined the Wave, but at work, calls to the Mother Ship in Den Haag are only 2 cents a minute on Google Voice.

But more important and as a single father, Google has provided me some very useful tools to manage our joint-custody situation between the Bay Area and Portland. Our situation "is what it is" and I'm grateful to Google for making the exchange of information just a little bit easier for 2 parents who deeply love their son.

Of course, there's gmail for messages, free phone calls on Voice (no headphone!), and Video Chat for teleconferences with my son's school and health providers. Google also provides the means for a joint calendar on my son's activities, a shared spreadsheet to track joint expenses, and a common document that lists all of his flights back and forth.

I'm sure there are other practical applications that Google can help with, and I'm sure I'll continue to discover them as life unfolds.....

Really??

Only 13 reviews for Google?

The thing that has merely REVOLUTIONIZED the way we surf the web?  Something that exploded from mere product name to an active verb used by people of all ages?  The provider of answers to all questions? (which, btw have you *seen* the types of questions people ask the Google oracle?)

                                           ***************************

In case you haven't noticed...

*** Google is taking over the world ***

Need to surf the web? Google search engine.
Need a way of communicating with people?  Gmail.
Need to organize your life?  Google calendar.
Need to figure out how to get to your next meal?  Google Maps.
Need to see where you live?  Google Earth.

Wanna see where the Martians live?  Google Mars.

What else, oh Google, have you thought about that I might find useful?  I can hardly wait...

Mad props.

I say,
"Hold on, let me Google that!"
and/or
"Why don't you Google it?"
and/or
"I wonder what would happen if I Google that?"
every day.

Thank you, Google, for making my life easier...and more entertaining.

Note that I'm not reviewing Google as a whole, just the food that's served at the Googleplex SF location.

With that said....

Mmmmmmmmmm.

That balsamic vinaigrette is BOMB.  Totally worth sneaking in ninja style* to obtain.  The rest of the food looks amazing, I can't imagine ever wanting to leave the confines of the office to venture out to actually PAY for food.  They also have outdoor seating, so on a lovely day like today, I can enjoy my complimentary meal in the company of fresh air and sunshine.  Sorry kids, it's members only, hence the missing 5th star.  Do they hand out VIP passes?

*Ninja style - knowing people on the inside who invite you to lunch and are card-carrying Googlers.  Damn you and your always free lunches.  DAMN YOU!

Awesome facility. Like a miniature version of the Mountain View HQ. Infinite creativity abounds within the walls, not to mention one of the staircases too which is retrofitted with a slide. HA! So childish yet who is complaining?

Location outlooks the Bay Bridge and it is indeed incredible. The food continues to be on par with the mother campus. How great that is.

Hold right up, time to go to the bathroom, brb.

I love Google, everyone should, but one thing is puzzling me.
Why do I always get this in the sponsored links on the right side of the browser?

Premium Smoked Fish
Award winning smoked fish, caviar,
kosher deli meats shipped overnight

Ideas?

Ever since Google moved to SF, I've been lucky enough to visit and have lunch several times before it's new cafe opened and after.

From the outside, you wouldn't even know that Google was in San Francisco across from the Gap building.  Once you step foot inside the offices though, you know that you're in a Googlesphere.  The offices are housed in the old Hills Bros. building where Palomino and Gordon Biersch rest.  The offices still aren't packed yet but they have all the amenities of the home office.  There's the obligatory kitchenette stock full of drinks and goodies.

They've installed two wiis and an apple tv in their lower lobby.  You can surf the web or play some games.  I've heard that there's a rockband set-up somewhere which would be consistent with what I've found in mountain view.

On to the most important part of the tour!  The Google Cafe in SF is really amazing.  First of all, they've been having a concerted effort to stay green so that most of their food is bought locally and they no longer have to-go boxes.  Also, they stopped buying Smart Water and now have bottles of water and cups all over the cafe.

Whenever I come, I always stop by and grab some sushi first.  The pizzas are very very creative and thin crust which is right up my alley.  I've even seen a duck pizza!  There's a vegetarian line and a meat line.  You can also find a salad bar and sandwich bar.  If you make a sandwich, there's a panini grill that you can use to toast it.  Google also makes daily tossed salads that are very unique and tasty.  I always get the citrus spring salad.

The variety here is always amazing.  I've never had the same meal twice.  I've eaten fresh crab cakes, lamb, seared tuna, BUTTERFISH!!!, and all sorts of variations of chicken and steak.  It's really a wonderland of food.

To top it off, there's always a tasty dessert waiting around the corner.  Before you leave, sometimes you can meet a nice dog named Sammy who waits patiently for his owner to finish up lunch.  He's a huge mountain dog with the sweetest complexion.  Don't forget to say hi to him.

I hope I can visit again soon!

I just received an email from a "gmail" user requesting my checking account number to help smuggle $18,000,000.00 out of the country of Benin(?)

What should i do? hmmmm... i know, I'll forward the email to google so that they can suspend the account and help prevent a little old lady in Idaho from losing her life savings... BUT WAIT! Goggle has no contact or support information for reporting gmail abuse outside of the world of google (i use comcast).

I was able to report the same abuser to yahoo by simply forwarding the email to the yahoo abuse center... why does google not have this service!!

I guess grandma can eat cat food for the next five years because the google gods have forgotten an important but simple service!

ps/ where in the hell is Benin?

Best. Homepage. Ever.

Google is the king of kings. Nothing else compares, I can't go to msn or yahoo and find out what the Boltzmann constant is just by typing the letter "k".

You're the best Google.

Just a quick note - Google did not support Proposition 8.
Here is the official blog post coming out against it.
