Woman behind the register: How are you doin' today, dear?
Me: Oh great, thank you. How about yourself?
Woman: I'm super, thanks! This book is all for you today?
Me: Yes, thanks. I also brought in a big bag of stuff which I placed in that empty bin next to the full one. Hope that was okay. Can I ....?
Woman: Oh let me get you a receipt. Here ya go. 98 cents is your total. Have a nice afternoon.
Me (NOT out loud): Yay! 98 cents for a book I hope to start reading soon. (now, out loud): Thanks, have a great weekend.
89 cents for paper backs and hard cover (maybe a little more, I can't remember) books here. Not bad, right? Selection of books is kind of limited, but it's better since I was here last. It also looks like a lot of people have been donating a lot lately because the front of the store was just packed with lots of good stuff. The check out lines were long, and people in front me looked like they scored some great deals. If I wasn't in a hurry, I would have shopped longer. Hmmm...I may bring in my mom, who'll be visiting soon and want something to do.

I have yet to find something here, but I do like coming in just to browse. I found what looked to be… Read more »
Brand new dress (with tags) perfect for holiday functions, random formal-ish type events, or on the odd night I just feel like getting dressed up and walking around my house: $14.99.
(Ok, I never get dressed up at my house...but more power to those that do, this dress would be perfect for it).
Fits like a glove, and don't smell like mothballs. Bonus all around. If I didn't tell you where it was from, you'd never know I got it at...gasp...GOODWILL. But, I did. And, yay.
Yes, under $15...for a new dress. This is good, even for me. For real.
As for the rest of the store: Big space, and a TON OF HALLOWEEN stuff (new). So, if you're looking for costume crap, check it out. Prices are good and it's a good chunk of the store.
Stuff is very organized, although it is mainly clothes. Some "bric-a-brac" but not much, and seems like they get a lot of Target overstock type items...so, might be able to score some new or new-ish stuff for pretty cheap.
Parking is super easy and they take credit cards, too. Plus, if you donate some stuff, you even get a 10 percent discount.
Add to the thrift circuit, fellow frugal fashion seekers. I'm SO not a princess, right? :)
I heart this Goodwill. Beyond a good selection of clothes - I've also stumbled across a few of my best 2nd hand shoe purchases ever here. I got a bronzey pair of franco sarto's here that are so unique and people always compliment me on. Well, $8.00 bitches! :)
I mean, but really - isn't it amazing when people compliment you on your clothes and it's stuff you found for super cheap 2nd hand???
I've gotten some super cute GAP stuff here, some jeans, a cute summer dress last summer. And while it's very light on furniture, every now and then there'll be something worth your time - AND your money.
What a nice Goodwill! The atmosphere was so not used goods but more like a slice above a TJ Maxx. Everything was organized by color and plenty to choose from within each color. I was looking for pieces for my Halloween costume and the possiblities were endless within the regular clothing section or their special Halloween section.
If The dressing room dude is reading this: dude! dont pound on the dressing room doors so damn hard! I almost had a coronary.
Dont forget that Goodwill gives a 10% student discount on Saturday's with a valid ID.
I love me some thrift store shopping!
I went in search for a plaid suit for my husband to wear on St. Patty's Day, but as luck would have it, that item was in high demand (rightfully so) and we were unsuccessful in finding it for him. HOWEVER, we did find something that was pretty darn close. A plaid sports coat in different shades of green and a matching green turtle neck to go with it. My husband was quite infatuated with his ensemble to celebrate his heritage.
I on the other hand, was equally successfully in finding the cutest pair of Siggerson Morrison for Target booties that were brand new with tags. Originally priced at $30 plus, I bought these bad boys for $2 and could rest easy at night knowing that they had never been worn before by another person's feet.
All in all, I would vouch for any thrift store where you can find A) unused items, B) a great getup to celebrate one of the best holidays and C) everything that is priced below $5 per item.
Kudos to Goodwill!
Very Overpriced when compared to the one in North Riverside.
My typical loot from thrift store shopping includes wacky and vintage style clothes, purses, shoes and jewelry. Pretty slim pickings here. Most of the apparel is newish and in good condition. Which is great if you are one of those people that are inherently disgusted by the thought of thrift store shopping. Come here, it's very clean and organized, the clothes aren't ratty or moth eaten.
So why the four stars then? BOOKS! Glorious happy paperbacks. I walked out with a big stack of paperbacks that have been on my wish list for ages. And we are talking fresh books, books never read before with the spine still crisp and the pages free of markings. I could have easily picked up another stack of books but I figured that my bookshelf is about to explode at this rate.
I went here after I heard that it was great. It's ok. I didn't buy anything but stuff is reasonable and, as with any store like this, if you have time to hunt who knows what's hiding on the racks. Most clothes are organized by color although some of the pants looked as if they were arranged by size too. It seemed to be mostly shirts, pants, skirts, men's clothing, a few shoes, small section of dresses and a few small housewares. Oh and some purses on the back wall.
Parking is a pain, I must have circled three times. I finally scored a meter on Madison.
This Goodwill is clean and organized -- and a block from where I work. I browsed around for a few minutes. It definitely seemed like many of the items were somewhat "higher end" than at other suburban Goodwill stores. I was looking for a couple of items for Halloween and I was able to find them within 10 minutes (that never happens). The parking is virtually nonexistent, as it may take you longer to find parking than to buy something.
I give this actually 3.5 stars.
It just opened, and I love that it is literally behind where I currently work.
I went on Friday and picked up 4 new shirts, a purse, and a Star Wars glass.
It's a bit pricey ... all my shirts were $5.00 - but, they were all in excellent shape, and one still had a tag on it.
So, though it's more expensive, they obviously only put out stuff that's still really nice.
The selection isn't huge..but I am assuming it's because it's a new location.
I look forward to my next visit, and hope to have the whole Star Wars glass collection in our cabinet someday!
I haven't been this excited about thrift store shopping since I found Unique Thrift's Everything is Half Price on Monday sale! This Monday, after visiting Unique Thrift, I stopped into the still fairly new Goodwill store for the first time.
A few negatives: I had the same difficult time with parking, but being that it was mid-day Monday, I did finally find one only one block away. To my surprise there were only three necklaces displayed in the case by the registers. When I asked if there was anymore jewelry, they said no. I wonder where they're hiding it? Wish they had more.
Once inside, I found it to be more clean, smaller, and more expensive than the thrift stores I am used to visiting. Now, the prices might be higher, but the quality is definitely much higher. What would typically take hours to find in your average thrift, is in full view here. I even found some designer clothes that I can't wait to get complimented on!!
After I spend hours digging through the racks of cheap stuff at the other stores, I will swing by here for the easy, classy gear for an average of $5!
This is the best Goodwill I have ever been to. Clean, spacious and well-organized, I always leave with something good for less than what most Chicago 're-sale' stores would sell it for. The staff is really nice and helpful and there are gems to be found every single week. Plus it's five minutes from home, so when I feel the urge to spend money but don't wanna spend more than $5, this is my go-to spot.
Hey, wow! This Goodwill is clean, organized, spacious (i.e. not cluttered or cramped), open late, and surprisingly low on junk! Everyone who worked there was just sooooo nice and friendly and helpful. [Insert pun about "goodwill" here.]
Go shop- there are BARGAINS to be had! I went in looking for old bedsheets to use as scrap fabric and left the store with things I would never have expected to find. Two brand new, never-removed from their boxes automatic pet feeders (retail $90 each, $3.99 apiece at Goodwill!), a pair of glittery Stuart Weitzman high-heeled evening shoes that look like they've been worn once for $6.99, an Ann Taylor plaid skirt in crisp, perfect condition for $6.99. My boyfriend was thrilled to find a 3-ring binder with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels on it for his parents who are obsessed with the breed (seriously, the chances of finding Cavalier-themed office supplies are so slim I can only chalk this up to the supernatural powers that exist in this store). We must have left there with $300 worth of new and near-new stuff for about $25. I guess they must be picky about what they sell though, since I didn't even find any junky old bedsheets!
In short, nice people, great hours, well-organized store, bargains galore! Stuff I left behind at the store FOR YOU: a nice boxed fondue set, ice skates in nice condition, adorable vintage pyrex mixing bowls, sexy tan BCBG snakeskin pumps with rounded toes, and a really cute stuffed monkey. Enjoy!
Bad parking, but organized and clean. I found a Gap jean jacket for 6.99 and a shirt, sweater and a purse for 4.99 each so not too shabby.
I used to donate weekly to Goodwill back when I was at school in Indiana. As soon as I moved to Chicago I had to find the local Goodwill. Luckily for me there was this one that had just opened up in the West Loop! Parking is really pretty bad. My husband and I tried to pull up out front to unload some boxes to donate to Goodwill and the tow truck immediately came out of "nowhere" and scared the crap out of us. Thankfully he was not looking to tow us...We did unload the boxes, but them promptly got the heck out of dodge because no empty parking spots were in sight. I have since visited this Goodwill once by myself and had to drive around multiple blocks to find a parking spot. After careful observation of the numerous "no parking/loading zone" signs I parked and went digging! I found a couple of really great pieces of clothing that looked nearly new. Also I found 17 pieces of silverware that was silver plated and 1 piece of sterling in the utensil tray and each one was only $.10! The only thing I wasn't very happy about was the fact that they didn't have any shopping CARTS-only BASKETS! Gimme a break...Where is a treasure hunter like me, and the other people who love Goodwill, supposed to put all our treasures as we walk around the store? When I left about 40 minutes later my arm was about to fall off! Oh well...It is after all just Goodwill what can I expect a personal shopper? Ha!
