This place is my guilty pleasure! I'm not sure about the reviews that are saying $10 for a burger... unless they got one with all the topping. My cheeseburgers are usually a little over $7 with grilled onions, which is not bad at all considering the quality of all the ingredients. The meat is always cooked perfectly to your specification, and the vegetables are always crisp and fresh.
And the milkshake! The chocolate is thick and heavenly, you can tell they use a premium ice cream. Delivery is really dependable too.
Remember when people were debating the "$10 burger"? Now its like, the $50 burger or something, I guess, because you can't really set foot in this place and spend less than 10 bones, unless you're ONLY getting a burger, which is small.
The burger tastes good, the fries were not great and goodburger has gone green, according to their literature... its just too expensive for fast food. And make no mistake, thats exactly what this is. Don't let anyone sell you on the "a cut above fast food" thing. That's foolish. It's called goodburger, as in "home of the goodburger, can I take your order?"
There was a cosby show episode where Theo and his friend call pretty girls burgers...

I never felt that was a good thing to do...until I went to goodburger...this place is all that and a bag of chips...the burgers are great...they are really really good...well made...made to order...took some time to get it but it was well worth the wait...the place is clean and open kinda late. The burger bun was soft and the place was clean and seating abundant. It was a decent experience...unfortunately, the only burgers in the place were the ones they served...I guess sexy big breasted women don't eat burgers..or at least not when i do...
Not the best burger in the city but if you're in the area, not a bad choice. The beef burger was good, a little small, but nicely sized for someone with a tiny stomach (like me). Fries are McDonald's-esque, but without that hint of tallow flavor that makes them so addictive. The milkshakes are good; the chocolate milkshake was more chocolate than milk, so that was a plus.
Little on the pricey side. If you're going to spend the money there are other places that are a better investment. If you're near the Union Square location and have time to wait in line, go to Shake Shack at Madison Square Park instead. This might be a better option if you're really lazy and craving some delivery instead of going out. Which means they'll likely get my business again.
Was craving some food before a book signing, so I stopped here and had the crab cake burger and onion rings. The previous reviews are right on - the food was decent, but the price is a bit expensive. Overall, I think the place is good, but I think there are some better options out there.
I've been conned into eating here three times now by coupons, and while I never actually regret it... I probably won't be convinced so easily again.
The burgers are alright, but don't seem as good as their price should command. I've never tried anything other than the baseline burger because anything fancier increases the already steepish price by multiples of dollar. To their credit, though, a simple burger comes with lettuce/tomato/etc and is tasty enough.
Bottom line, I guess, is that Goodburger is good, but there are cheaper, better options.
"Welcome to Great Location, Home of the Goodburger, can I take your order?" Wow this was hitting the bulls eye, if your standard is good..& you do it well you are to be commended. I ate a cheeseburger cooked medium, which you shouldn't do because it's good meat, it's not bad but it does not have the quality to show through. I also ordered a side of onion rings, when it came to my drink order i asked for ice tea, and asked for sweetened tea. They don't have sweetened tea but offered to 1/2 lemonade 1/2 iced tea, but I was impressed by the attention to detail. Most attendants at fast food locations are drones answering yes or no to most of your questions. This was an example of good service.
The burger was good the onion rings were good, the table we sat at was good, my arnold palmer was good... If you have a nice grip on being good... you are not doing anything great. WITH ONE EXCEPTION, your location.
Well...it was good. And it had better be considering the name. It wasn't excellent, not good, semi-good, or any of the like. It was juicy and cooked medium like I like it, and they managed to keep the pink away. So it was aptly named. I'll give it that much.
But it was a *tad* overpriced for what you get. Nearly $10 for a burger and no fries? And a burger size that doesn't even come close to the $10 restaurant burger that we all know and love so much? Not to mention the fact that you have to endure that annoying Nickelodeon jingle bouncing around in your head the entire time you're there...you know the one. I ordered one burger, Margot G. ordered one burger and a small order of fries, and we split a medium sized soda. At a fast food joint, this should not cost over $20, but it did at Goodburger.
But it was good. As the name suggests. And the working A/C was a welcome respite from the summer heat.
It is actually really good for a burger joint. But it is so expensive for a fast food restaurant. A meal is like $12 for a small burger and small fries and drink. I would walk to shake shack
the name is quite deceptive.
it's more like "eh, it's alright i GUESS" burger.
A recent ROTD for Goodburger prompted me to check out this place. So here are the basic observations:
+ cute chipotle style red decor
+ lcd's for catching up sports...
+ decent quality medium cooked cheeseburger
+ ample seating space
- pricey drinks and burgers
Goodburger is the perfect name for this place since it's the perfect description - it's a "good burger" - not horrible, not great, just "good" or mediocre.
My burger arrived a bit more rare than I wanted, but it was still okay.
I guess if you happen to be in the area and looking for a quick burger fix, this might be okay, but I'm sure there are better options.
They have a vanilla brownie shake that was pretty good - it was definitely better than the burger.
Goodburger? Mehburger.
My medium-well cheeseburger was dry and overcooked with hints of charcoal. I got the works, but you shouldn't need ketchup, mustard AND mayo to make your burger tasty. The cheese was not featured prominently (I like my cheese front and center, thankyouverymuch). This was most definitely not a $6.75 cheeseburger.
The fries were standard but yummy. I was given approx. 3,000 of them, so I am currently fighting the urge to take a french fry-induced nap under my desk.
All in all, it was a $10 lunch that left my burger craving unsatisfied. Goodburger is like the boring guy you go on a date with and then wind up thinking about the guy you're really interested in all night (ahem, Shake Shack).
Not a Burger,
You walk in the place seems OK, the you look at the menu and think OK for the price ill get a good portion.
NOT - ok 12$ for a hamburger with the works (lettuce tomato pickles onion) cheese is an extra .75 cents - WTF
got a sandwich and onion rings, my friend got the same thing but cheese and mushroom on his and fries instead of the rings.
All came out to like 27$ - I was like OK um
The food came about 5 min or so later.
My Burger
The patty about half the size of my pal and about an 1/4 inch thick, and still walking - I guess that means medium on there end on my end that means raw.
The lettuce - looked sad and lonely
The onion - was over powering
The mayo/ketchup nothing special
The onion rings - tasteless, bland, and very oily. (about 5 rings or so)
My friends burnger
same as above but,
The mushroom - was not good
The cheese - not worth the extra money
The fries - tasted bland, and looked overly saggy.
The music is upbeat but makes you feel like you are at a club.
The drinks can be refilled as many times as needed, but is it worth the 27$
I would go back if the price was right but for about 13$ a person i can go some where else and get what i pay for portion wise and taste wise. - Where is the good in that?
Well, this is the first GoodBurger restaurant I went to. When I walked in, I thought it was a restaurant that has very pricey burgers, drinks and fries but when I looked at the menu, it seem to be interestingly not-so-pricey. So I grabbed a drink, some fries and a shake.
Well, it tasted impressingly delicious. The restrooms, dining area and fountain drink machine are all shiny clean and wroking like it should be. So that is why I give it a 5 and I could say, it is the best Burger Restaurant in Manhattan.
~AWWang.
My first Goodburger was a delivery, & was mediocre. My second was just now: double cheeseburger, onions, pickles, lettuce, catsup, mustard, & I have to say, was darn good. Skip the fries though. Onion rings were awfully a-okay. Stick with them.
If you were to tell me a year ago that my favorite burger in the city would be at a place named after a horrible old Keenan and Kel movie, well... I probably would have believed you. But that's only because I take messages from the future extremely seriously.
But here we are, and Goodburger has made a mark in my heart as a beautifully built burger. Also, it's the perfect size, so it'll help make sure that the mark on your heart isn't an arterial clot.
The fries are good, they offer a small but good selection of beers and the service is quick. They offer a good amount of customization on their burger so you can get it exactly the way you want it.
Keenan and Kel would be proud... wherever they are.
Hmm overpriced, not that much food.... I'd say only tourists are fooled into wandering into this wannabe Culver's. Meander down 18th st, you'll find a better priced bar/grill that has twice as much character.
Ugh. Disappointing. A step up from McDonalds.
Walking into a place named "Goodburger" I was expecting the world's best burger. This place is half as good as Five Guys. The burgers were small in comparison, the rolls were half as tasty, and fixins a dissapointment.
The place should by named Goodmilkshake or mediocre burger.
Let's break this down to 2 parts..
Burger.. so-so.. a little bit on the expensive side..
Atmosphere.. I really like the music they play in there.. very trendy.. feel like you are in the lounge but eating burger.. if they dim the light a little bit.. it could turn into a lounge..
It all sounds a little bit weird..but hey new yorkers love the unique style.. maybe this is why this burger joint exists..
Okay yelpers, I guess you don't have my passion for goodburger, and thats okay, its not for everyone.
I guess the price doesnt really bother me, its nowhere near on the level on a McD's or something, so it should be priced accordingly. Granted I don't go there everyday for lunch or anything, but when the time is right, and the hunger is near, there really is no quench except those goodburger burgers.
I get mine with the works, no pickels, no mustard. It just... its perfect. Perfect tasting burger to me. Those fries are amazing too, its like... a festival of awesome in my mouth.
The prices for goodburger are the same at every location, I've been to a few, because of places I've worked. So its not a Union-Square price issue, its the price everywhere.
Anyways, if you don't mind going a couple bucks over what you normally spend for lunch, go here. You really won't regret it. I've never taken someone to goodburger and have them be like, "Katie, why did you take me here, this burger is terrible" It's usually: "Thanks for making me go here, I will forever remember the awesomeness that is good burger." Maybe not that drastic, perhaps, but you get the idea.
I think the burgers are really good, but this place always leaves me feeling weirded out.
WHAT IS WITH THE GUIDO DISCO MUSIC?
Is this "Meatpacking District II: The Burger Place"?
As 1990s disco queen Robyn sang: "Show me love. Show me life. Baby show me what it's all about."
Hey Robyn: What's it all about? Is it about a burger with fries and a drink for more than $10 where there's no table service! Yeah...that's right. It's $6+ for a burger with cheese and another $2+ for fries. This is a little pricey for me. The fries are highly mediocre (their mediocrity is exceptional...stupendous. Their fries have a Ph.D. in mediocrity).
Get the burger, though. It's tasty.
I came here after a long day of work and spent thirty minutes at Club Aura which is down the block.
An upscale fast food burger restaurant that is far better than McDonald's. Yet it is not oily and greasy as Five Guys which is just right as per Goldie Locks. The price is quite steep for a cheese burger alone is $6.50 plus NYC sales tax is a total of $7.85. Toppings such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, et al are thankfully included as patrons get more for $6.50. Seating is ample yet with the atmosphere and seating it appears to have a restaurant look rather than a fast food appearance. It's certainly NO USDA prime but according to their fact figures they grime all the beef on Bell & Evans Chicken and Plainville Farms. Their French Fries are cooked in zero trans-fat canola oil. Orders can be taken online through their web site or SeamlessWeb.
I would come here rather than going to Chipolte due to my budget especially in today's ailing economy.
"Hi, welcome to Goodburger, home of the Goodburger, how can I take your order?"
Oh Keenan and Kel, how do I miss thee?
I ordered the turkey burger and my friend ordered the cow burger. Kind of disappointed by the smallish size of both burgers. I didn't think it was anything to get all worked up about- just the average burger. And for an average burger, the price does not suffice. I also don't appreciate how there are onions already mushed into their turkey burger patties- good thing I had nobody to kiss that night. I feel like If I'm gonna pay like 10 bucks for a burger and fries, I might as well just go a restaurant specializing in burgers...get a heartier portion and higher quality taste.
The house music also confused me a bit. I felt like I should've had my party clothes on and a cocktail in hand... but instead I was in sweats with a burger in hand. Weird.
My friend insisted that because Goodburger grinds (?) their meat on premises (which apparently means less fillers?) that it was worth the 8 bucks he paid for his burger. I do not eat cow, so I wouldn't know.
There are few things more disappointing than when I order food from an establishment and it's as good as something I could have made myself. I CANNOT cook. Period. So if I'm paying you for food, you should be able to cook.
Goodburger was that for me. However, it gets three stars because burgers are one of the few things I can actually make, so it wasn't all bad. It was just OK. As in, "I-think-we-should-just-be-friends" OK.
On the plus side, Goodburger is clean, and is much less depressing than a McDonald's or Burger King. You won't find fluorescent lights here. But the fact that I'm even comparing it to a McDonald's or a Burger King tells you all you need to know.
Now, this may not be a fair review - because last week, I had the joy of eating at In-N-Out, so my most recent burger taste memory was amazing (and cheap). But, this is not Venice Blvd, this is Broadway, Union Square, NYC and I went to Goodburger. I liked it. And I liked it even better because it saved me from going to dinner at Chipolte next door.
We were looking for a quick after work bite to eat and it was a really good burger (cheeseburger - works, crispy onions). Great vanilla shake and good, but thick onion rings. (that was 2 days worth of calories, and well worth it - I'll do some extra time at McBurney tomorrow). C had the same, but a Black Cow Shake that was declared delicious)
It was expensive, $17.34 for a cheeseburger $7.25 (crispy onions an extra .50), shake $5.50 & Onion Rings $3.25, but - better than Stand in my estimation.
I'll be back when I am in need of some yummy, decadent fast food. But, I will also be at the gym early tomorrow trying to work away my sins.
So although I was advised by some yelp members to skip this place and was warned that this place doesnt come close to living up to its name, I decided to go here anyway.
I have been walking past this place twice a week for the past month, and although I dont usually eat burgers or fries for lunch and I try to avoid eating them in general, my curiosity has gotten the best of me, just like it usually does.
This place looks like a much more classy and modern version of a fast food place, which is a positive thing keeping in mind that the amount of time it takes from the point where you order to the point when you get your food, technically this can be called a fast food place as well.
However, the prices here are higher than fast food prices. I ordered the burger which was $5.95 and since I dont drink soda I decided that I will just order fries separately ($2.45) instead of the combo meal. One positive thing that striked me, is that when I didnt orderd any drink the girl at the register offered me a cup of water, since she didnt see that I had a water bottle with me. I have noticed that some other people had those cups of water and I felt like this attempt at going a little extra, set this place apart from any other fast food place that I have been to.
Now to the burger. I felt like it wasnt bad. It comes with all the works that I love (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo and ketchup) and although I did feel that something in that mix tasted a little odd, I could still easily tell that the burger was aspiring to be a gourmet burger and not just any other fast food burger. I would say the burger was pretty good considering what I was expecting from it and above average if I try to be objective.
Now the fries are a different story. They were dry and blend, it has been over three years since the last time that I had McDonald's fries but I believe even they were better than this one. I wouldnt get them again unless I was really hungry.
At first when I thought about the prices in this place I was a little angry, for a place to charge this amount for a simple burger, but then I remembered the few times that I have gone to diners or some chain restaurants and ordered burgers. I don't even remember one occasion when the burger cost less than $6, and yet most of those burgers, although a little bigger than the goodburger, were much less memorable.
I must say that I was somewhat pleasantly surprised by the burger, after the bad rep that it has gotten, not the same case with the fries ( I heard the onion rings were good) . Also, this meal passed the "will this fill me up?" test with me , which left me pretty satisfied. So if youre looking for a burger that is somewhat better in quality and for some in taste than fast food chains and maybe youre up for some onion rings as well, this place is worth giving it a try. And if you do go, let me know what you thought about it.
3.5-4
When I used to work around here, I'd go here at least once a week.
They usually get your order right in terms of doneness. Everything is made fresh to order. The price is steep for a burger, but the quality is worth it, at least for once a week.
I usually just get a cheeseburger medium well with the works and fries.
Haven't tried the shakes, but they look good. Tried the onion rings as well, they're alright too. The corn chowder when they have it is good. They also have some sorta curry soup. The Crabby patty is good too, but the burgers are better. The chicken fingers were curiously tasty the first time I got them, but every other time since, they've been just good.
Great spot to go if you want a quick bite to eat and you're in the neighborhood!
Fast service. Loud, lousy Euro house-techno music. Burger cooked medium-rare, as ordered - good flavor. "Store-made" root beer tasted like any other.
Service pretty quick
Price a bit moderate but worth it
sorta better than a few other burger places.
It does hit the spot.
Check it out
I'd like to preface this by saying that I ordered a turkey burger, not a hamburger. Do with that what you will.
I was craving a burger yesterday, and there were no "better" burgers around, so I settled with "good."
They play club music. Which is awkward.
So I got the turkey burger, and I will give it that it seemed really healthy, but it tasted like ... fish... Not bad fish necessarily. Just... fish.
Isn't that weird? And it wasn't even crowded but took FOREVER to get my food.
I won't go back. Next time I'll trek to better burger. It's just better.
Was not too impressed by Goodburger. The burger itself was kind of dry. Also, they didn't give me an option of which cheese I wanted, and I guess the default was Swiss (which I'm not a fan of). The fries were pretty tasteless, even after putting lots of salt on them. The lemonade was fresh, but had tons of seeds in it, which I almost choked on when I took a sip. If you're craving burgers around Union Square, walk up to Shake Shack! Or even New York Burger Company.
a couple steps above fast food. tasty burger but, like most burgers in the city, not even close to worth the price. nice beef and fresh toppings.
decent fries.
Goodburger = OK Burger
Goodburger serves up an OK burger, definitely nothing to go out of your way for. At $6.75 for a cheeseburger, I'm not a fan. I'd rather go to Five Guys and keep the rest of my change!
They don't provide a choice of cheeses (cheddar is all they got, and the slice was pretty thin).
Their default is cooking the patty medium.
"The Works" consists of adding lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, ketchup, & mustard. Nothing fancy. I wish they had an optional topping of jalapenos, but they don't have any toppings aside from what's in "the works".
They did play upbeat techno music (not sure if that's what you want to hear while eating your burger) and had a flat screen TV where I got to catch a little of the World Series game between Philly & Tampa Bay.
Oh, and they serve bottled beer.
We stopped here for a quick dinner before heading to the movies one block up. Since neither of us were meat eaters, we opted for some simple veggie burgers with side salads and fries. The veggie burgers were pretty boring and tasted like something I could make at home (i.e. like frozen Gardenburgers) but all the food was fresh and the side salad was decent. The fries were the skinny kind and seemed like they could have been good, but they were cold before we brought our food back to the table! They have an ordering system where you get a number and they call it, and we did pick up our food as soon as our number was called, but it was cold anyway. Not good!
An atmosphere that feels like Starbucks and the aggressively cheerful Euro disco that pumps through the speakers do not help the situation. Bottom line, the food wasn't gross, but it really wasn't all that. There are other cheap options in the area that are tastier (i.e. Maoz) but if you're in a hurry and not concerned about your food being interesting, Goodburger will do the trick. We got our food, ate and got out of there in 20 minutes!
Came here with a buddy a month or two ago. Two Coronas, two burgers with fries each- $30 +- ridiculous. This is no high-end burger either. This is no In n' Out LA burger ok? Nothing to boast about. It's a relatively clean and spacious room but you get very little for your buck.
Stopped in for a quick lunch with a friend. Wasn't looking for anything fancy. The burger was fine, but overpriced for the size. The chocolate shake was good (also overpriced for the size), better than the burger and better than Shake Shack's too. My friend likes the veggie burger cause it uses a lot of veggies that you can actually see. All in all it wasn't bad, but honestly Johnny Rockets is much better.
Better than average burger. Higher than average price. Still has a fast-food feel. At least its not pretending to be anything it isn't.
They also have free refills on drinks, which is awesome. Besides that, expect to spend almost $10 on a meal that will unhealthily fill you up. Welcome to Manhattan north of union sq, right?
Goodburger....ain't good.
My fiance had a good hand in sabotaging them, to be honest. They ran out of wheat buns, so they called to ask if wheat bread would be ok. It's not. ever. Bread does not hold a burger well, if at all. Everything gets soggy, mushy, and quite frankly, disgusting.
I do hold them responsible for suggesting it to my clueless fiance. And further, it appears the bread they use isn't even a high quality wheat bread that makes it better than white. It's just brown.
I'm not sure how the meat tasted totally, because by the time it got walked back 4 blocks, the whole thing disintigrated around what appeared to be a hockey puck of meat. But, the soggy mess of bread so dwarfed the burger that it was really like a lettuce/gross pink (not red) tomato/onion/mustard sandwich, with a little meat thrown in.
On top of that, they missed some of the toppings. We ordered online. It prints out for them to assemble - there is no way to miscommunicate other than to clearly not care.
The cherry on this disgusting meal of a sundae is that the fries are putrid - they're soggy, anemic, and taste like they've been fried in old oil - all I taste is oil, even beyond the ketchup coating. By the time they were walked home (in cartons, in a bag, inside a bigger bag) they were cold. There is nothing worse than cold, soggy french fries.
The whole thing was a waste of money, time, and effort. Stay home, reach around in the depths of your fridge, and slap anything together - it will be better than the garbage you get out of goodburger.
A business that lives up to its name. This is indeed a good burger. Didn't blow me away, but definitely worth it's salt. Only thing disappointing was the fries. Bland and uninteresting, but still fries, so, you know, we ate all of them. Heard good things from my fellow Yelp-Superstars about the Crabby Patty and the turkey burger. And it didn't seem all that pricey to me, but as I've said, nothing shocks me in terms of prices in NYC anymore. Perhaps my complacency for price gouging is the reason for my credit card debt. But I digress.
Our crew was all decked out in Yelp gear after a marketing promotion in Union Square and we got lots of appreciative comments from our fellow diners on Yelp's awesomeness. So that was a good thing too. Just good all around. I'll go with 3.5.
