I'll suggest this place to any of my loft-dwelling friends since the prices here are surprisingly comparable to larger chain stores.
The difference between Good Works and the rest of the contemporary furniture stores is that their wares walk that very fine line between artsy-cool (which can go out of style in a few years) and the kind of furniture you can always feel comfortable going home to.
They have a selection of living room, bed room, and dining room furniture. It's not terribly huge, but they do have a catalog of items if you can't find what you're looking for in the store.
Their service was a bit overwhelmed when I was there. The attendant was fielding a few groups of customers. From what I saw, she was very polite and knowledgeable, so that's a plus.
Who knew you could get timeless, funky, hip and modern furniture under one roof? At Good Works you can.
I spent a decently large wad of dough here about five years ago (relative to my salary at the time) and my sofa/overstuffed chair set still look and feel as plush as the day I bought 'em. My coffee table is living a reincarnated existence in my brother's abode, only because I feared moving the glass to Chicago. Recently, my brother purchased his entire bedroom set from here per my recommendation. He's a picky one and finally settled on a set after weeks of (until now) fruitless searching.
Lasting impressions, chic style. Good Works is good stuff indeed.
A modern, even futuristic furniture store. Excellent furniture at decent prices. You can't get a lot of this stuff from anywhere else, or at least that's what the salesmen and saleswomen claim.
It would be nice if they stayed open later.
I got my most favorite piece of furniture EVER at Good Works. It's lasted me two apartments and a house and people are still talking about it.
I saw it in the store window many years ago and went in expecting to be shocked away by the price. But it was so reasonable. I think less than $200 if I remember correctly. It's a lounger, very chic and retro and you could get it covered in a variety of patterns. Mine is lime green and orange and yellow. I get more compliments on it.
I love the store in general. It's a great space. Prime location, really and lots of openness to it. They've got gorgeous sofas and bedroom sets, funky vases and room decor, prints and dining room sets. It's more contemporary. Good quality too. I can't tell you how many rear ends have parked themselves on my chaise and it still looks as new as the day it arrived.
Very nice selection of modern furniture & home goods that doesn't swing too far modern or too contemporary (I'm looking at you Pizzaz). The only problem - they are horrible with communication.
We ordered a new couch & chair. Very reasonably priced for the quality. It was supposed to take 6-8 weeks. It took an extra month. You know, when I drop $4000, I expect that shit to be on time. Sure, the manufacturer had issues with the leather and then they blah blah blah and then the holidays and yap yap I couldn't care less.
I had to call for updates way too often and no one EVER offered to make it up to us. When they finally came they were fucking beautiful. Works of art in leather & wood. But follow-up questions? non-existent. sure they write your name in their little book, but no one's ever gonna call you back.
If you're gonna make me wait that long, you'd better be shit apologetic. don't make me chase you down.
I'm still writing this on my big, beautiful adult couch. crazy.
I love going into this place. This is definitely not your grandparent's type of store. The furniture has a chic edge to it that still holds its own on the classy style scale. I've gotten my dining room table and chairs from here and my bed frame (dresser and side tables as soon as I save up for them). The employees let you wander around and peruse the store without being pushy, but sometimes to the point that you almost have to speak up to have someone to help you. I'd give this place the BIG 5 star rating but my dining room table was supposed to delivered in 4-6 weeks..... um manufacturer's behind schedule.... another 4-6 weeks. Still on back order..... another 4-6 weeks. After already spending over 2 months searching for the perfect table and another 2.5 months of manufacturer's backlog, I settled up with them on a discount and the floor model. The thing didn't have a scratch on it and they continue to get my business.
Great contemporary (tasteful, not cheesy) furniture at far lower prices than the same stuff elsewhere.
Quality contemporary home furniture at reasonable prices. The staff is relaxed and helpful, and the inventory routinely updated but available long enough to find what you're looking for.
