We did the 3 hour shelling and dolphin tour last week during our family vacation in Fort Myers. Six of us went (including my 9 month old daughter) - it is a very family friendly activity and there were quite a few families present with young children and babies. It was a BLAST. The tour actually did last for 3 hours (I'm always a bit wary with activities like these because it seems as though few companies actually ever give the full advertised time!) and we enjoyed every minute. It surely didn't hurt that it was a gorgeous day! The only complaint I had is that the boat's top is completely covered, so you won't get any sunshine to warm you on the ride.
After leaving the marina, we headed into the estuary and saw LOTS of dolphins. The Captain also provided a lot of wake for the dolphins to "surf" upon either side of the boat. Very cool! I didn't expect to see so many dolphins so up-close, but there they were, just jumping and frolicking away next to us.
We stopped for about an hour on a small island for a chance to go shelling or just relax on the sugar white sand. Quite lovely.
Good Time Charters encourages patrons to bring their own food and beverages to enjoy on tours, so don't forget to pack something! And if you do forget, there is a Publix conveniently located next to the marina.
The Captain was amiable and very informative, providing lots of interesting tidbits about the ecological and developmental history of the area. At $35/person for the tour, this was definitely worth the price and was a highlight of our vacation.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessica H.TN, TN02230Dec 27, 2023
Captain Mike was the best! Our family of 5 had a wonderful experience both viewing wildlife and fishing. Mike was knowledgeable and patient with the kids as they caught fish and asked questions. I highly recommend the marine life and fishing combo! We can't wait to come back!

Excellent charter. I was very pleased with captain Mike. He was very attentive to our party of 4 and the boat was clean and had plenty of shade. Had a great time at the local sandbar and cruising along Sanibel island. Recommend 10/10.

We have been on several sunset tours in the past. Every time it got 5 stars, but this time was not the same. it was storming in the area. Probably should have canceled the tour but the captain insisted. No dolphins, no manatees, only a couple of birds. Animals were smart enough not to be out there. We did get a sliver of color for a sunset.
I guess they had added the ability to bring coolers (never remembered allowing that in the past) so had to deal with a large group of young people drinking all around us like it was a bar. It was not a family atmosphere like it used to be. I felt sorry for the families with young children on board. I will not book another tour.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Corinne S.Kentwood, MI742Apr 30, 2022
My husband and I enjoyed the relaxing, educational sunset sail. It was quite exciting as we made an unscheduled stop to rescue a dog that was drowning in the water. We returned him to its owners and then continue on with our tour. Lovely sunset on a secluded island where we collected shells and enjoyed the white sand. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and the captain was very friendly. I definitely recommend!

My 2 teen girls (13, 15) and I enjoyed it. We took the 3 hour shelling tour. It was 1 hour boat trip to Little Hickory Island, 1 hour on island, and 1 hour back. Saw ospreys, juvenile bald eagle, terns, pelicans, and dolphins along the way. Warning: if you sit in the front you will be sprayed!
Shelling was great on island. Lots of cool shells. Water was very calm and shallow. My kids swam a little. Glad we brought goggles and towels.
Tip: I would recommend a wind/rain jacket as it was cool on the boat (mid-April). You can bring a bag and leave it on the boat. The crew will watch it for you.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jacqueline I.Chicago, IL544Jan 7, 2021
We scheduled an early morning dolphin-sighting tour at last minute over the holidays and had a great time. Within the first 20 minutes, a couple of dolphins rode our wake out of the harbor. Additionally we saw several types of birds and fish. Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed the 3hr tour with Steve and Laura pointing out wildlife and land features. We also very much enjoyed the stop at a small island to look for shells or just enjoy the shore.
Also important to note: the boat seats up to 40 but there were only 12 people on our tour so there was plenty of room to socially distance.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dreamkar W.Smyrna, GA1012Jul 4, 2022
Professional, on time, knowledgeable tour guides. Learned quite a bit about Florida's wildlife and ecosystems. We had the pleasure of having several dolphins follow our boat for several minutes. It was amazing! Even had a manatee sighting. Would definitely recommend this tour company.

They continue to live up to the company name. Mike has put us right on the fish every time we've been out with him. He is quick to rig, bait and demonstrate technique. This past trip we had a first timer in our group that Mike rigged first and he had a fish on in less than 30 seconds. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed a private fishing charter with Captain Mike on Saturday morning and had a wonderful time. Two of us had fished with him before, and three were new to fishing. Captain Mike was a great teacher and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the time on the water. The dolphins were a delight to watch as they swam gracefully in the wake. We caught a wonderful variety of fish, with Captain Mike easily identifying each and telling us a bit about them.
We are looking forward to doing this again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Candace L.Sarasota, FL794567Apr 20, 2022
Wonderful! We went on the 90 minute dolphin tour and I can honestly say we witnessed dolphins jumping out of the surf behind our boat for most of the tour. Captains were friendly and funny. It was well worth the $30. We liked that we could bring our own snack and drinks.
