Best selection and Sam is indeed wonderful! Love supporting a local small business to boot.

Love this place. It's unassuming and tiny, but has an incredible variety of magazines and newspapers. More than once I've found titles here that were missing from bigger shops like Fog City News. The selection spreads across continents, genres and taste levels. The owners/managers are also terrific.

A nice easy going place a HUGE selection which is nice as all the big chains, which had large magazine collections, have shut down in the city. They don't mind if you browse a bit.

As electronic media steadily displaces the more traditional forms of media, shops like Good News are becoming increasingly rare. But we residents of Noe Valley may rank ourselves among the fortunate few. For this we can thank a brilliant little shop called Good News, which is well-stocked -- and cheerfully operated -- by its proprietor, Sam.
Sam is one of those rare souls who always greets you with a smile, remembers your name (assuming you subscribe to the common courtesy of introducing yourself), and who inquires into your well-being with genuine interest.
Good News is therefore a welcome refuge from the cold commercial transactions so common to modern city life. This alone would make Good News worth a visit. But Good News offers more than a pleasant social interaction. It is a news shop after all, so its bread & butter is newspapers and magazines -- and the selection at Good News never disappoints.
Sam built Good News' reliable reputation by stocking an eclectic selection of national and international newspapers & magazines. At Good News you'll find all of the standard American magazine titles (and dozens of other non-standard titles) -- along with a truly outstanding selection of international titles -- a selection arguably rivaling that of shops four times Good News' size.
Whether you're looking for an obscure political journal, or a hard-to-find European fashion magazine -- odds are, you'll find it at Good News. I drop by Good News several days a week to enjoy a friendly conversation with Sam, while browsing his shop's constantly updated selection (a selection that includes my favorite hard-to-find magazine, Top Gear, based on the BBC car show of the same name).
We are truly fortunate to have a neighbor and shop-owner like Sam in Noe Valley. And the truth is, without good folks like Sam, our lives (and our community) would be measurably diminished. So here's to Sam, and to others like him. Thank you for what you do. -

Now THIS is a newstand! You New Yorkies (sorry, that's what we really call you...and me when I lived there) will note a lack of dailies, but the periodicals selection is DA BOMB!
Yeah, yeah, those bookporiums with the coffee shoppes inside have good selections, too. But they suck. 30% off? (Thanks for my rebate on your tax break, mofos).
Last month, Kathy Griffin cited being in a photo spread that appeared in Italian Vogue along with the caveat, "Don't bother, you won't find Vogue Italia anywhere." Well, Good News has Italian Vogue every month, but I din't see no Kathy, bless her heart.
They have an outstanding selection of art + design, architecture, fashion (the real kind), and just about any mag on any topic your heart desires. If you're looking for a hard-to-find periodical, this is your place. If this ain't your place, try the talk threads. -

GREAT spot to get Sunday Times for the crossword.
So glad 24th street is littered with empty plastic newspaper boxes. No wait, I'm not.
Can we just get rid of those? Good News has got it covered!Listed in: Noe Valley

This place was open on the night of the 1989 Earthquake and it's still around! They have a big selection or magazines and papers, as well as lots of candy bars! Keep coming here! I want to make sure it stays open.

For the life of me I can't understand giving a bad review to something as harmless as a neighborhood newstand, but whatever. Choose your battles?
This place is great. Perfect spot to stop by on the occasional early morning walk though Noe Valley. The other day I picked up the new issues of 442 (English soccer mag), Bon Appetit, Eating Light and Esquire. And that's a pretty good morning. -

It's a tiny space, so they can't have *all* the magazines, but they certainly have most of them! I can regularly buy Heat and Now and OK! here, which is fab because you can't find those everywhere.
But best of all are Sam and Idris -- Sam is the owner, and a jolly, sweet fellow. Idris mans the register when Sam isn't working, and is a friendly, interesting guy to have a chat with anytime. I pop in just to say hello sometimes! It's a nice neighborhood place for regulars like me. -

Every neighborhood should have a little shop filled with esoteric periodicals. Sadly, they all don't; happily Noe Valley does.

I love Good News! I've been getting my magazines and newspapers from Sam for over ten years and he's the best! I'm an absolute magazine junkie, and he gets all of the magazines from Europe and Australia that I love and are hard to find in the States (Russh, and Australian Harper's Bazaar, anyone?)
On top of that, all three of the guys who man the counter are very nice - they never get impatient with me when I start making my monthly "Is it here, yet?" calls, and will put something they know I want aside for me if they only get a few copies in. No better place in the city to get your news fix. I don't even live in Noe Valley, but I go out of my way to get my magazines here. Check them out - you'll like them! -

The woman who works he is outright rude. She glares at me everytime I enter, and yes, I normally do buy something.
Not anymore! Get a fucking clue lady! Rudeness doesn't sell! -

i have a great fondness for this little niche of a "magazine store" in noe valley, mainly because of thier splendid collection of periodical media which are rare, international, racy, political & educational.
when i entered at this abode of a "hallway" to kill time, i noticed the person in-charge that day was busy reading, that he did not even acknowledge my grand entrance!
i browsed, flipped through the pages and read some of the magazines under the nicely lit fluorescent lights illuminating this place.
after a great while, i looked on my cell phone and recognized that i have to go for my "rendezvous."
on my way out, i said my thank you to the most oblivious individual ever! i could've stash a vogue magazine, paris edition in my oversized purse without him even knowing....but i'm not a thief! -

I agree Sam the owner has never lifted an eyebrow at my magazine selections. I can't say the same for the patrons, who should really mind their business. I don't make eye contact in public anyway so I don't understand why people bother at Good News. See the ring on my finger? It indicates some other pervert has already nabbed me. My pervert dance card is full, thank you very much. Just because we are in the same section DOES NOT mean I am "interested", I just happen to like a certain magazine from England that I can't find anywhere else in the City. Yes, the British magazine (hint: Monkey Knievel, Tangela Tricoli and vegetable orchestras) does have scantily clad women in it, but it is artistic. ARTISTIC!

They have an impressive selection of magazines and newspapers -- and loads of good literary magazines, too. It's charming, totally unpretentious, and very dog-friendly. The folks who run the shop are really cool, too. The place is so great, in fact, that my boyfriend prefers to buy his Atlantic Monthly, New Yorker, and Economist here rather than order subscriptions! So take my advice and buy from this local gem the next time you're in the mood for a magazine or three.

I don't know what it is about this place, but I always leave here feeling bad. I mean, it's newspapers, magazines and cigarettes, not much to it, and they have a good selection... but something is just off.

Stepping into this shop is like Christmas morning for me!!-British magazine heaven! An appetite for my biggest guilty pleasure-"OK-UK"-nourished by a summer in the Cotswolds and trips to London-can be indulged every week with a jaunt down to Noe Valley. They carry the newest editions (of virtually everything) before any other bookstore in the city-REALLY.
They also carry the English version of every fashion magazine you could name,as well as:Eve,Red,Olive,(the BBC food mag),Waitrose's food tome,Archie comics (for my daughter) and every music magazine from Uncut to MOJO. I just got back from a long trip to Canada during which I had to haul across Toronto to find most of my favorites. Strange that once I got back to SF, they were all waiting for me...
The best feature of this establishment is the sweet, friendly, and accommodating attitude of the staff and owner. They welcome you to read, browse and savor the best of international periodicals and newspapers. Magazine junkie heaven. -

A friendly spot for international magazines; if Sam doesn't have a title in stock, he'll order it for you next month. Splendid.

This place is one of my favorite regular stops in San Francisco. Not only does it get favorite international mags like Empire and Total Film before anybody else, the folks who run the place are extremely friendly and helpful. There's not a finer emporium for all things print. Great shop. Top recommendation!

We call Sam, the owner, the "Mayor of Noe Valley." Not only does he carry all the news that is fit to print, but his tiny space, filled with every magazine you would ever want to read, is a regular meeting place for people in the 'hood. Sam knows my tastes, points out articles he thinks I might want to read, and pets my dog. Smart and generous, he makes Good News the best.
