Review from Kohleen L.
Minneapolis, MN
After meaning to check this place out for months, I finally strolled in early one summer morning. I sat at the bar, and Zack made me a fantastic iced chai while I decided what I wanted to eat. There were so many options--almost too many, but I settled on the huckleberry pancakes, and they were some of the best flapjacks I've had in recent memory. I will certainly be back in the future for breakfast to try one of their many "specialties".
Today I decided to boycott the many chain restaurants in the neighborhood and I finally drug in the BF to GDC for lunch. It was past what I would expect to be the lunch rush (1:15pm) but the place was sure hoppin--when we walked in we noticed a few small groups waiting to be seated. We were super hungry and in a hurry, so I scoped out a couple empty seats at the counter and we quickly planted our fannies. It's a cool spot too, because it feels less like a Perkins and more like an old diner when you can watch the cooks while you eat.
Zack was our server again, and within seconds of sitting down he brought waters for us. Again, I had the problem of having too many choices, but I settled on two and decided to ask for Zack's recommendation. I ended up with the Hot Meatloaf Sandwich, which was served with green beans and mashed potatoes & gravy. I liked that the mashed potatoes were "old fashioned" with the skins left on, but overall they were nothing fancy. The meatloaf was heavy and on the spicy side (which I love, but others should be warned). It wasn't bursting with flavor, but it paired well with the toast it was served on (which is baked in-house). The highlight of my plate was actually the green beans! They seemed to be prepared with an almond butter and served with pan-fried sliced almonds. The flavor was amazing, and the crunch of the almonds was the perfect touch. I loved them so much, I might ask to order a side of them with my next meal at GDC!
The BF also settled on two options and let Zack sway his decision. He finally ended up with the Turkey Pot Pie, which I had to snitch a little of. We happen to love pot pies, and especially after travelling to the UK, we tend to be picky. But this pot pie landed just underneath Brit's Chicken Pot Pie, and above all others in the Twin Cities in my book. I would certainly recommend it--but don't expect a top crust. It's served in a open pastry crust, almost like soup in a bread bowl. The only thing we thought it was missing was a little crust on top--even if they crushed it and sprinkled it around instead of baking it that way. But all in all, no real complaints. Our food was delivered quite quickly, and Zack made sure to keep us hydrated throughout the meal. That's another perk of sitting at the counter--they seem to keep an eye on you.
I found out they use lots of locally-sourced and organic ingredients, which is great. I'm not sure why they don't promote that more. In general, it seems like the quality of the ingredients is pretty high, which might explain the slightly higher cost of entrees. I'm from the school "you get what you pay for", and this certainly is better more creative food than you'll find at Perkins. I'd choose Good Day Cafe anyday! -

I wish you could do half stars on yelp. If I could, Good Day Cafe would get 3 1/2 stars. Why you ask? We were on our way to pick up a rug from Room and Board's distribution center and decided to stop in. The place was kind of difficult to get to - I mean, we could see it from the highway but then had to rope around a bunch of side roads to actually get to said restaurant. The restaurant itself it pretty cute - for a place in the 'burbs, but it kinda felt a little contrived. Maybe this mostly city yelper has gotten a little spoiled by small, quaint breakfast spots (I'm lookin' at you Bon Vie and Colossal.)
That being said, we were seated promptly and brought water relatively quickly. We were there around 10:30 on a Tuesday and the place wasn't too busy. Mostly business types and people of a certain age that may no longer be in the workforce. The menu was varied and had quite a few interesting options. I opted for the sweet potato pancakes that I saw on a board as we walked in, and the man decided to go with the huevos rancheros. This being said, I wish our waiter had mentioned the specials or that there was at least an insert in our menu because I would have had no clue about the sweet potatoes pancakes otherwise.
The food came pretty quickly as well, and my dish was delish. It came with some sort of maple cinnamon syrup with pecans in it. I got a short stack of 3 pancakes and could only eat two! The huevos rancheros were a bit of a mess on the plate, but the man said that they were very delicious and the chorizo tasted like it had been made in house.
The downside? Prices! Holy buckets! Our two breakfasts, with two coffees, came to 26 bucks pre-tipping! Seriously? That seems a little ridiculous for breakfast if you ask me. I would come back here if the situation was right - it would be good for a bigger group or family. -

This place was alright, but honestly it felt just a little too corporate-suburb for my tastes. It would be a good place to go for a business meeting. I go for more of a greasy spoon dive cafe for breakfast. However they are not a chain, so they get an extra star just for that.
I will say one thing, the crab cake Benedicts here are really good. Solid breakfast place, and fast! -

I Love this place for Breakfast!!! They are always really busy even during the week day. The eggs benny is the best. The huckleberry(aka blueberry) pancakes are awesome. The bacon is good. The hot chocolate is very yummy!
This place is very kid friendly! -

Food was great and we were with a 5 year old and the waitress was awesome with her. Definitely recommend -

We went for lunch. Got there on a weekday just about 11:30. First time. Got seated after looking around. It had a coffee bar takeout with scones etc. We had read it had a bar also. It was out in the middle of this big room, like in the middle of the dining room. We read the menu and it seemed very ordinary and a little "spendy", as they say here in Minnesota. We ordered light. Glad we did. The portions are large. My lovely bride had a quiche that was about 2 inches thick. I had a bowl of chile. The ordinary food was done very well and the portions helped justify the price. We topped it off with a piece of raspberry rhubarb pie a la mode. Very good. When we left there was a large line waiting to get in. I can see that.

The fried egg sand which is a gift from the gods. It's huge, delicious, and comes with some of the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had. It is a bit pricey for a breakfast joint but I've had nothing but great experiences here each of the times I've visited. The service has always been friendly and the building itself is generally able to hold to large amount of business this place does. Would have gotten 5 stars if it weren't for the prices. Even with that being said this place still holds its own with any other breakfast place in the area. Looking forward to going back!

Have I ever mentioned that I love breakfast? Cuz I do.
I went here for my Grandma's b-day and man, what a good decision. Being I was with my family, we were able to share our plates and wow, french toast, pancakes, waffles, omelets, eggs Benedict. I couldn't have been more pleased with Good Day Cafe. The price wasn't over the top and the food was right there to match it.
The service was great! They treated my 86-year-old grandma like a queen and I was able to thank them with the tip. The one downside (and it maybe because we had a party of 8) but it seemed like the wait was a little longer than it should have been. We called ahead and were fine, but I saw groups of two and four being told it was a 30-40 min wait.
If I had a suggestion of what to eat: Eggs Benedict with breakfast potatoes with OJ. -

We've been here a number of times and I really want to like it. However, despite their popularity, I don't find their food exceptional in any way. The space is so noisy that it's difficult to hear the companions at your own table, and it feels drafty and cold. Their menu is a cut above Perkins, but their execution doesn't meet expectations. I like the little touches, like their homemade jam. The baked goods look good, but are dry and not great. Give it a try, but there are better places than this.

Review from Yoko Y.
This place is not getting 4 stars based on its menu prices. Holy cow! All the tempting items like eggs benedicts and souffle omelettes are $10-13.00 and that's not including your coffee. Pancakes, waffles, and french toasts are little less: $5-$9. Nothing like your average breakfast place, huh?
I had the mushroom benedict again. This time the portion was huge enough to overlook the price. The English muffins were bigger and they were drowning in the sherry cream mushroom sauce. Plus, there were more GDC potatoes and they were hot, crispy, and well spiced. I'd like to think my stomach is shrinking because I almost couldn't finish it all. By far, this is my favorite GDC breakfast menu item but others like the Iggy's Fried Egg Sandwich and the meat and cheese omelettes are good, too. I'm not much of a fan of the spinach omelette because you might run the risk of eating still frozen spinach.
It's a pretty good breakfast place if you can overlook the prices. -

Coffee: good!
Fried Egg Sandwich: awesome!
Side potatoes: heavenly!
My friend ordered the benedict that had guac on it. Guac on an eggs benedict dish? Unheard of! But it looked really tasty. -

Overhyped
It was good but just A-ok good .. not that great especially with a price tag this high.
I came here for late breakfast at almost 11 am on Monday, and the place was already bustling. I headed for the counter seating, so it wasnt that noisy as compared to the main dining area.
I started with a beignet. It was decent, but nowhere close to those I had in Cafe Du Monde down in N'Orleans. Beignets here are topped with probably close to a pound of cinnamon sugar instead of confectioners sugar (or powdered sugar), and that made the beignets kinda grossly sweet and too heavy. I had to shake all the cinnamon sugar off the beignet in order to eat it.
The wild mushroom benny was quite good. The mushroom-sherry something sauce was pretty tasty but not quite enough for me on the plate. The potato that came with the eggs were full of flavor but pretty dry, hard and some already had really dark color .. like they were way way past the golden crunchy state.
So to sum it up .. everything was decent but not really worth the price tag. -

The food at Good Day is great - not superb, but pretty darn tasty. Was there last Sunday and had the fried egg sandwich and a mimosa. YUM. Also, had a coffee and it tasted like garbage. If all you do is serve breakfast/brunch type fare, get your coffee right. Aside from that the only beefs are A. The prices are high for what you get. and B. They don't take reservations so expect to linger. BUT the services is good, and the variety of food they offer is pretty solid. Also, they give you free warm buttered (pre-buttored!) bread and jam. Yay!

Great place to have an upscale breakfast. I usually get the french omelets which are fantastic. They have good sticky buns and coffee. The only caution I would give is that on weekends there is usually a long line, try to snag a seat at the counter if you have a small group.

This is like the 3rd or 4th time I've been to Good Day Cafe - I always end up here while I'm in the cities. Its seriously the most awesome breakfast place ever. This time I tried the fried egg sandwich. I'm not a fried egg person at all, but all the reviews of it made me wonder so I took a plunge - and was completely in awe. It was totally amazing. I never usually finish things that I are on my plate but I bellied through my full stomach and had to push the last bit of it in my mouth as it was just so so so so good! My friend had the crab cake eggs benedict and she's a benedict conosieur - she kept on saying how it was the best crab cake she'd ever had. We usually talk a storm when we eat but we just sat there pushing food into our mouths followed by loud sounds of happiness. Everytime I drive by Good Day Cafe, my mouth just starts to water....

The Good Day Cafe has a lot going for it and I probably would have given it a higher rating if it wasn't for one thing -- the noise level! It's a large open space with concrete floors, flat ceilings, and not much on the walls. The noise level is so high you'll find yourself yelling to speak with others at your table.
Now that we got past the bad part, let's get on to the good things -- the food. We go out for brunch every Saturday and Sunday and love finding new breakfast spots.
We started out with an order of beignets. I've ordered them at other places outside of New Orleans and always regretted the decision -- ussually ending up with gut clogging grease bombs. But the beignets here surprised me -- light, airy pillow of sugary goodness.
We both ordered the buttermilk pancakes. In my experiences a lot of restaurants don't make good pancakes and turn out rubbery flat slices of dough. The pancakes here were light and fluffy and came with plenty of syrup. My only complaint is that they were a little too sweet -- even without the syrup.
We ordered two sides -- bacon and home fries. The home fries were probably the best we've found in twin cities. Moist, crispy, well seasoned and lots of onions. I could make a meal out of them.
The bacon actually looked gross. It looked a lot more like turkey bacon. But after getting over the looks I took a bite and was surprised. They were slightly crispy yet not tough and had a great flavor.
Price wise I think the Good Day is a little high. You can find other places that have comparable breakfasts for less.
Would we go back? Probably not. I don't want to have to yell to talk with the people at my table until I've had at least a couple of cups of coffee. -

You'll have to make like the proverbial early bird in order to get seated without a wait at Good Day Cafe for Sunday morning brunch, but after a cup of coffee and a few bites of thick cut bacon, you'll realize that rising early has its perks. We arrived shortly before 8:45 and had zero wait, but by 9:00 the line had started to form. After the meal we had, I can see why folks are willing to wait.
I was perfectly satisfied by my almond french toast that came topped with fresh strawberry jam and sour cream. The crunchy crust with the nuts and soft interior of the bread were a delicious match! A half side of thick sliced bacon provided a nice salty pairing with the sweet toast. The one bit that I wasn't impressed with was the OJ - mine looked fresh-squeezed, but was a bit sour. Not a deal breaker by any means, but I'll stick with coffee next time.
JP ordered the corned beef hash, hoping that it would negate the less-than-impressive hashes that he'd tried elsewhere recently. Thankfully, all was right after one mouthful - finally, a hash with flavor, not just salt! A happy boy was he.
Even if you're not an early riser, I think it's worth the wait at GDC - the food is better than your average chain breakfast restaurant, though maybe a bit pricier. The atmosphere is very laid back and we saw lots of families with young children enjoying their meals together. We'll be back before long, just remind me to set my alarm.Listed in: Brunch Bests

Leigh and I went for our first times today. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was bright and cheery, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The prices are high for the type of food but not for the quality. We'll definitely be back, though not as often as we'd like until our finances improve!

Pretty darn good breakfast. The menu is a bit overwhelming bc there are a lot of great looking dishes. I got the corned beef hash-it was not what I expected bc the eggs came on the side so I put them on top to get the oozing goodness w the hash. It was good but I felt like it was missing something...the spicy ketchup on the side was a plus. The bf got the egg sandwich with mushrooms instead of ham. Sammie was good but texture was off-i felt it should have been crunchier. I ordered a fruit cup at the end bc I felt pretty heavy and it was $5. I can buy a basket of strawberries and a pineapple for that much $.
It's a bit pricer for a diner, but the service was great so ill prob be back to try something sweet off their menu. The glazed donut pancakes sound amazing! -

Came with a couple girlfriends for brunch around 12:30p. It was packed, but we were seated in about 5 minutes. Not bad!
We got a round of Bloody Mary's that were excellent - spicy & strong. Following close behind was a round of mimosas - also delicious.
I ordered Iggy's Fried Egg Sandwich. WOW. It is a must-get if you stop in for breakfast; avocado, tomato, ham, egg & cheese. We also ordered some sort of cinnamon bread that was also wow-worthy.
In short: friendly, attentive service & REALLY good breakfast. -
Review from Hale L.
People should avoid this establishment during brunch on Sundays....so my wife and I don't have to wait 30 minutes to get a seat!
Actually, we recently found out that the dining counter is first come first serve. Since there is two of us, we just seat ourselves and share the dining counter with other happy patrons. You get a front row seat of the bustling kitchen. If you are feeling sociable, you can spark up a conversation with the stranger next to you. Perhaps share a few tales of your shenanigans from the night before, while downing a bloody mary and watching the cooks make your breakfast sandwich. Meanwhile, the server will always have a watchful eye on the contents of your coffee cup, making sure that it is always happily topped off.
Speaking of Breakfast Sandwiches, they make a lot of them. Contents: Avocado, Egg, Tomato and onions sandwiched between two pieces of toasted bread. The bread is the most important component of this sandwich! Heavenly!
Also, try the huevos rancheros. 3 patties of chorizo, egg (sunny side up!), placed on top 2 flour tortillas, then green and red salsa poured over with black beans.
The wait time can be long if you need a table. So expect at least 30 minutes for brunch (1100am - 1230). The dining counter only seats 5 people. The menu selection is typical breakfast fare. It ain't no French Meadow! -

High expectations, low delivery....
This place has been on our list for the longest time. Well, this weekend was finally it. We arrived at 9:35 on a Saturday AM. We were quoted 30 - 35 for a table. I was expecting 45. We were seated in 25 after having a coffee and tea while waiting.
Thanks to my fellow Yelpers I knew I was going to have the Fried Egg Sandwich and a beignet. Dining companion had a simple egg breakfast with bacon.
I really, really wanted to like this place....but, my beignet arrived very quickly and it was warm and pretty good, but honestly, I like the churro at CostCo better - I know, shame on me right?
Now I know why they turn the tables over so quickly, the food comes very fast. The toast basket came and then the food.
Looking at my egg sandwich was delightful, but it failed to impress. I skipped most of the bread and ate the remainder with the fork. The brioche bread didin't work for me with the nice ingredients in the sandwich. The brioche would have worked better in a sweet breakfast item, but not in this sandwich. Also, it wasn't that hot. I like my egg sandwiches hot and the cheese melted. It was neither. I think it was thrown together very quickly. My sandwich came witht he potatoes, which I also didn't care for - too oniony for my taste.
The best part of the meal for me was the strawberry rhubarb jam that came with the toast basket.
I found the service to be fine, the atmosphere to be too loud, the food to be overpriced with a lack of quality in preperation, and there is no way I was going to pay $3.95 for a small juice. I'm glad I finally tried the place, but would not venture back. -

Decent food, nothing to wow over.
To be fair, I ordered simple eggs, bacon and toast. Hard to make that much different than other places so I will talk more of the experience.
We arrived about 9:30 on a Saturday morning. The place was swarming with people. My GF suggested that we call ahead. I scoffed at her because I thought it was too early to worry about. Once again I was wrong (don't tell her).
Checked in at the front and they said it was a 30 minute wait. We stood around and got coffee and tea. After about 25 minutes we were seated. I had a hard time taking in the place because it was so busy. The server was good, friendly and helpful to me while I ordered a high maintenance breakfast.
I would go back only if it was early (before 8:00 am). -
Review from Mike E.
Good Day Cafe is a great spot for a meeting, whether business or personal. The service we experienced was first-class: both the hostess and our server were warm, attentive, and were genuinely invested in our group enjoying our time at Good Day.
My coffee mug was never empty, and that's saying a lot, because I was there for 2 hours. I do believe I drank 6 cups of coffee...and it was just this morning, so I am still buzzing/shaking/excited about EVERYTHING the world has to offfer today.
The food was delightful; my omelette was more than enough to fill me up (and I am known as a big eater). The potatoes were seasoned to perfection; they were memorable in and of themselves.
The setting/ambiance is cozy enough for my liking, especially considering your (potentially) lowered expectations in being next to Highways 394 and 100. I very much felt like I belonged at Good Day. This may have been more the result of me being at breakfast with some of my favorite people in the Universe, though.
Of note: while the Cafe opens at 6:30 AM, food is not served until 7 AM, and by 8 AM, the place is packed with people. When we left at 8:15 AM (on a Friday morning), there were about 15 or 20 people waiting for tables.Listed in: Breakfast!! Brunch!

This place is amazing. I've eaten here probably 10 ten times in the past two months. My husband and I are always looking for a great breakfast joint and this is a wonderful one. The coffee is great, they serve real cream which is fantastic.
They have the most delicious smoothie, called the tropical smoothie, try it and you won't regret it.
Classic eggs Benedict, YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
The only downfall is one the weekends the wait in the morning is usually 30 mins plus, but luckily they do have call ahead seating. -

Just went there for the first time this Am. I must of came at the right time (about 7:15) because the place was packed 30 minutes later.
I had the 49ers flap jacks and wow!! were they good. The coffe is a darker roast. It tasted like a french roast, which I am not a fan of. The service was great and the place was very warm and clean. Lots of stuff on the menu so I plan to return. -

Any place that makes their own marshmallows goes in my cool book.
While home for the holidays I went to GDC with my go-to-friend for Twin Cities food recommendations. This was her pick for lunch after our yoga class. I must say it paired well following 60 minutes of downward facing dogs and sun salutations.
So the marshmallows...I don't care if it's the middle of July with 80% humidity...if they have the hot chocolate on the menu you need to get it.
The marshmallow is cut to snugly fit the width of your mug. It's fat and fresh with a tissue-thin layer of carmelized skin. So good. It's sweet so you might not be able to drink the whole thing, but give it a try.
We also ordered sandwiches and shared. The veggie sandwich is surprisingly substantial and tasty, the egg sandwich is perfect for those who can't make up their mind whether they want lunch or breakfast.
Only downside is GDC is kind of pricey. We split the bill and with tip it was about $25.
And I thought only in LA do you pay $25 for a drink and sandwich. In this case it was worth every penny. -

Okay,
I really enjoy the breakfast. I had a fried egg sandwich, which i found tasty, their breakfast potatoes are quite good. My companion got an omlette which he also found a-ok. Great coffee, great service, I had a pretty good bloody mary too. My main complaint i guess would be the dinner menu. Its all pretty heavy mid-west meat and potatoes cuisine without any real light options. Which I guess goes along with the diner theme...Either way, the breakfast menu met my personal tastes more closely so 4 out 5 breakfast; 3 out of 5 dinner. -

Plenty of people have reviewed this place, so I'll keep it brief (just like my visit there).
I went at dinner and there was plenty of seating. The service was friendly and attentive. The coffee was fair. I had a bowl of the tomato-basil soup and it was quite tasty--not too creamy, with good chunks of tomato.
The main room is cavernous and the decor is "whimsical" in a faux-vintage mashed up with contemporary. Not my favorite, but expected. The prices are high for what you get, but you are not rushed and there are plenty of hearty choices to fit every taste. -

My parents actually recommended I try this restaurant. I decided to go there for lunch, and I will probably go back in the near future for breakfast! While the Good Day Cafe is kind of tucked away down a side street, it was definitely worth seeking out :)
I decided to sit at the bar they have directly in front of you as you walk in, as it was just myself dining. This was a cool vantage point, because I could see into the kitchen pretty well. The only strange thing about the bar was that it was pretty wide (long distance between me and the other side of the bar), and the menus, condiments, napkins, etc. were on the far side, which was a little awkward to reach. Small thing I know, but still noticeable enough to at least mention.
I ordered the french onion soup to start, which was really good. My biggest gripe about french onion soup in general is always not having enough cheese from on top to be able to take bites of it all the way through to the bottom of the bowl. The Good Day Cafe's french onion soup got me 9/10ths of the way through before I ran out of cheese :D Definitely better than most places tend to do. The onions also tasted nice and fresh, which is a must for good french onion soup. Only downside of this appetizer was that it came with this weird little dinner roll on the side, and a HUGE dish of butter. Made me feel like I was supposed to drown the roll in butter. However, the roll was warm and went well with the soup...even though I ate it in about 3 bites.
For my entree I got the steak sandwich. The steak was cooked a perfect 'medium', just like I asked, and there was a good amount of it. The sandwich was served with a Bearnaise sauce on the side, which was really good, just a rather small portion. When I asked for more, the server was quick to bring me a huge extra cup of it :D
Other nice things were that the server was quick to refill my coffee twice during my meal without me even asking, the food came out from the kitchen very quickly, and the noise level was not bad at all during my meal (granted, I was not sitting in the main dining area). This restaurant seems like a great place for a variety of clientele, from couples to business lunches to the guy who just wants a good lunch :) -

You'd think breakfast was invented yesterday by the way people line up for this place. We waited a good thirty minutes in the middle of a grumbly, oddly mixed crowd of white people. We ended up getting a table in a quieter corner, which made the wait worth it.
Our server, Derek, was a rockstar. Maybe he is the one that brings people in for eggs and pancakes in droves. He had a huge section and still did a stellar job. Plus he was camped out in that perfect epicenter of friendly but not overly pesky. Love that spot, and Derek was rockin' it.
My oatmeal was a nice bowl of oatmeal, steel cut, brown sugar, apples on top. Pool Boy ordered an omelette and that was where the magic was at.
We'll be back with empty tummies on a Sunday morning sometime soon again.Listed in: Oatmeal: It's Not Just for…

It's not that I really resisted eating at Good Day Cafe sooner than now. It's just that I didn't make any special effort to eat there. My wife has. She liked it. I'm a breakfast fan. But I have a predisposed preference for Al's Breakfast (hard to imagine anything else living up to that standard).
But quite coincidentally, I had two breakfast meetings at Good Day within two weeks. I liked it for a number of reasons.
First is the food. It's very good breakfast food. On my first visit, I had the corned beef hash with poached eggs. Yum. Very good. On my second visit, I had an eggs Benedict variation. Quite inexplicably, Good Day doesn't have a web site. So I can't remember what my variation was called. But it consisted of an English muffin topped with a scoop of guacamole with a poached egg on that and a generous dollop of Hollandaise over the whole thing. They also serve breakfast potatoes on the side. (I love potatoes for breakfast.)
The coffee is good. The service is adequate. I'd take another meeting here any day. -

Grabbed lunch with my family at Good Day Cafe recently. I was a bit surprised that the place was packed at 1pm on a weekday, but that can also be a good thing ...unless, the waitstaff is totally overwhelmed and the hostess doesn't answer questions correctly, then it sort of blows.
We actually originaly came here for pistachio popovers, which we heard were wonderful. Apparently, these are only served at dinner. We did order up a crab cake benedict, which was good, and a few sandwiches. None of them were memorable, but were fresh and worth eating.
Overall, the ambiance was fun, the food was ok, and prices were a bit high -

A fantastic place to get Midwestern "Soul Food" with a fresh twist. One of my personal favorites the the BLT&A (BLT with Avocado) served with some awesome fries! I also love the meatloaf, the crab cakes and the steak sandwich. If left to my own devices, I would easily eat my own weight in GDC fare every single day!
The environment is casual and you are guaranteed a wait if you get there any time after 11:30 on a weekday. For lunch you will see parents with their children, business folks, artists and some of the local television personalities from the nearby KARE 11 TV station. It can get loud at lunch since the floor is concrete and there is no interior wall to break up the sound.
I have never taken anyone there without them agreeing that it was a fantastic place for a great meal. -

Went here for breakfast/brunch on Sunday and will definately be back.
True, the wait can be long if you head there for brunch, a strange mix of "after church" and "just woke up and my head hurts". But really, it's no longer than Talk Town, Uptown Diner or any other good breakfast place on a Sunday.
After being seated, my wife and I were a little split on the decor/ambiance. She loves it, I wasn't all that impressed. It's a big room with tall ceilings - so it gets pretty loud and crowded - but she finds little things she likes about it - so I can't really complain.
The food - well, that's what we came for, right?! I went with the Eggs benny and she had the fried egg sandwich - and we both started off with a beignet - the perfect start to any breakfast. The food came out so fast, I almost thought they gave us someone else's food - but the same thing happened to all the people around us - so they must have had the kitchen really humming.
I'd order the fried egg sandwich again - for sure. It was great with the tomato and avocado - and the GDC potates are pretty dang swell as well. The Eggs Benedict were as expected, nothing more nothing less. I guess that's what you get when you order things that have the word "classic" in the title.
Good day cafe is a nice (western) suburban answer to the good downtown breakfast shops - it lacks the hipster crowd of Uptown, easier to get to and park than Hell's Kitchen and is a little classier, less sports bar-y than Bunny's - all places I love to go to for breakfast. -

I've always really liked the Good Day Cafe for lunch during the weekdays, but I recently stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. I was a little worried as I didn't feel like waiting for hours. I called ahead and the hostess said our table would be ready at 11:00 am. We walked in exactly when the hostess said and we only had to wait about 10 more minutes. It was really busy but we ordered Bloody Marys and Mimosas at the bar and that occupied the time nicely.
My boyfriend and I were servers/bartenders for years and we both felt that our server that morning was the best server we've ever had, anywhere. My boyfriend's son ordered the Huevos Rancheros and she suggested he order his eggs scrambled because, "I bet you like a softer yolk like I do, and there's a lot of sauces in that dish!" She was exactly right. She was attentive and spot on on her suggestions. My boyfriend and I decided to order the Bacon and Cheddar Omelette and the Apple pancake thing (can't remember the exact name of it) and split them. The Omelette was awesome! I didn't like the pancake - it was really eggy for my taste and the apple and caramel sauce on top was sort of tasteless. Apparently the Huevos Rancheros rocked as my boyfriend's son ate the entire thing.
Oh, we also started with two beignettes. Excellent, but we probably could've just started with one. They're pretty big - about 5" x 5" and we were so full after breakfast.
Yep, it was expensive. Our tab was about $55.00, not including the drinks we bought before sitting down. BUT, the total experience was worth it and a thousand times better than the Original Pancake House or some of the other big breakfast places.
