Have been here, taken out, and gotten delivery from this place a bunch of times.
Really good Thai food. Kind of tucked away in Lower East Harlem on a quiet spot of 99th St. It's a little place, with 5 or six tables, pleasant and unassuming decor.
The food is truly good and the price great for the taste! If you're looking for Thai in the UES / East Harlem area, you gotta check it out.

I don't remember the last time I have eaten Thai or if I have ever eaten Thai for that matter. Either way, I wanted to try Gong, a quaint little restaurant right off 3rd Avenue. The interior of the restaurant feels pretty upscale with exposed bricks and beams. There is a massive window spanning the entire storefront that can be completely opened up. It's a great atmosphere to just sit back and watch passers by. I'd also say it's a good place to take a first date, assuming you aren't the only two people inside. I did find it odd I was the only person eating at the restaurant when I went around 6:30 on a Tuesday afternoon.

Undeterred by the lack of patrons, I took a seat, and ordered the half chicken with rice and garlic oyster sauce for $9. The presentation of the food was absolutely beautiful. There is no way this costs less than ten bucks, I thought. When I got the bill, which was placed in the mouth of a cool little wooden figurine I realized the bill was in fact only $9. Wow! This place is literally one of the best kept secrets in the city. Without a doubt. My chicken was very tender and the garlic oyster sauce really set off the flavor of not only the chicken, but vegetables too. This place gets a big thumbs up.

Gong is a clean, modern, 20-person respectable Thai dinery at 99th and 3rd.  It's the size of a Manhattan living room but the furniture, chairs, and decorations are all top notch and frankly out of place for the neighborhood.

The menu is a cute large-napkin size foldout with standard Thai fare.  Served quickly by a smiling Thai waitress, the crispy vegetarian duck went great with their red chili curry.  The crowd was family-oriented on a Tuesday night.  The music piped in was upbeat and electronic - actually seemed out of place - the only negative.

The location is a little sketchy - this is not their fault- it hides a restaurant that would do even better in a more upscale neighborhood.  This is the kind of place that will make the neighborhood gentrify faster.

I've lived in East Harlem before blanquitos were allowed above 96th St.
before the Real Estate whore's dubbed it Spa Ha
The neighborhood has changed into an eclectic cluster of little restaurants which beats the $5 Chinese food that was here! Gong Modern Thai is an exceptional Thai restaurant! the portions are not only generous but the price is right! Bob Barker sez so! We had the Pad Thai with pork and the grilled shrimp dish with the ginger scallion sauce  they were both scrum dilly- off the chiz-zain!!! Word! To top it off we did the fee foe fai dessert ( I really cant remember the name) but it was like a filo pastry filled with green apple and banana's and we tried it with the green tea Ice cream! SLAM MIN!!! Seriously... The food the price the portions and the atmosphere-decor Fo Schnizzle

Americanized Thai in a sleek, cool space.  Friendly server and admittedly rather good food, but I'm saddened by the fact that I requested their hottest ("level 3) yet felt not even a tiny burn of capsaicin on my tongue.  I'll probably drop by here when I get a hankering for something Asian, though.  Hopefully the nice waitress will remember the crazy little Asian girl who requested chili paste and proceeded to dump the entire container on her plate.  :D

I came here on a blustery night with friends to get a fine thai meal for a fair price.  That's just what we got.  Can't wait for the liquor license to come through, this place is small, accomodating, and the food was great!  I loved the enormous diet cokes, and perfect portions of food.  I hope more people come up the El Barrio to check this place out.

I noticed this place first when I was on a bus ride on 3rd Ave. I was curious about the little yellow shop that opened, but never made the effort to figure out what they served. For that, I wish I could travel back and time and kick myself.

This place is FANTASTIC. The interior is full of sleek lines and rustic touches, which make it a great place to eat in on a date. The service is fantastic, speedy, and warm. The food itself is great!

When we first went I had the chicken in ginger sauce and it was unbelievable. There were tons of fresh vegetables in it and it really did look like modern cuisine --- instead of you know the lifeless veggies served at fast food chinese places. The Tom Yom was my favorite that I have had so far!

The lunch special also cannot be beat. I just had it today and it was delicous. I like my pad thai to be extra peanuty, but this Pad Thai was so good it didn't even need the extra peanut sauce I ordered. Not to say its overpoweringly nutty to those who don't like nuts -- it was just so well balanced I didn't want to ruin the flavor!

All in all, I am beyond excited about their addition to the neighborhood and I'm sure you'll feel that way too!

Great addition to the neighborhood but fyi, there's no BYOB allowed. They said the authorities were ticketing restaurants in the neighborhood, and their attorney had advised against allowing. Anybody know about this new practice?

This is, by far, the best Thai you can get above 83rd Street.  There are better Thai places, but the food here is authentic. The menu is small enough that you know what you're eating is freshly prepared and cooked with some element of care.  The service is modest and professional.  There is NOTHING decent Thai to eat in the East 90s (there are a couple of places but they are really not very good) and Gong is actually a hip/chic place which is really the trend in lower East Harlem.  They fit in quite nicely and their only challenge is 1 - getting a beer/wine license soon, because they need to at least serve Chang beer! and 2 - getting customers to notice they are on 99th Street out of view of most passersby.

I have been to many Thai places in the city from 5 star upscale cuisine to Thai food for people who wouldn't know good Thai if it kicked them in the butt.

The prices are great for a nice place and the service was exceptional. The menu is short and sweet. My partner and i went there on a Monday night and she had a soup (can't remember the name) and it was to die for. As apps we had the spring rolls and the crispy tofu. Both great and inexpensive.

Our dinner orders , now those were very delicious. She had the vegetarian duck salad the fact that it was tofu and still managed to taste like that was great. I had the red chili curry and it was just as good as any 5 star place that i have paid twice the price.

I agree with Tony H. that the music was the only negative and the guy below him must not know good thai food because it is definitely  worth a trip back.

Another thing about it that i thought was nice was the fact that the owner/executive chef came out to greet people for a few minutes.
